You can build a PC that will for about $500 if you are willing to take the time. Although the game itself will likely cost nearly as much. The thing is a lot of people are oohing and awing about the graphics but when they realize how much it costs and that you actually have to know how to fly to take advantage of it, most of the people saying they want it won't actually buy it. This one is going to go to the die hard flightsim fans and actual pilots. I happen to be both so I am already saving up.
@@skorpius752 not a chance can you build a pc that could run that on maximum detail for that money. Unless their servers will be hosting the game and all the client has to do is "stream" it whilst providing inputs - but then user inputs would be subject to latency issues. @@justjosh11 Ok so maybe more like under $1k with all the goodies. a 16 gb graphics card will cost around $350 still. More than likely that is the requirement for full resolution.
gta doesn't aim for realism. it aim's for fun beyond what realism can achieve and does it very well :) SUPER hyped for this sim, kerbal space program 2, and gta 6
GTA V wouldn't be good with this type of realism and scale. You would lost to much time in travel and it would stop being a game and feel like real life. You don't want to spent a hour or more traveling from just one point of a city to the other, stuck in traffic, etc. A emulation of reality is better for that type of game.
@@TheEasyRail no, but your car fly in GTA so you can pass the close street with thousands of cars in hush hour? "If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then games will be indistinguishable from reality, or civilization will end. One of those two things will occur, Therefore, we are most likely in a simulation, because we exist" -Elon Musk
I hope the game can really take advantage of multicore CPUs, but my guess is it will be 90% reliant on the GPUs. I'd love to see something like a 2-proc AMD EPYC 7742 server with high-end graphics cards benefit over something like a top-SKU consumer AMD (or Intel) CPU with the same graphics cards/GPUs... It's not at all trivial to parallelize dozens of aspects of gameplay (typically), but maybe something like a flight simulator where the parameters of the game environment change relatively little would be a good fit... Would be a good question for the MSFT developers, actually.

Flight Simulator was always the top dog when it came to graphics. FSX brought many PCs to their knees during its time, it's now only just recently that computers can handle it to where it is actually enjoyable.
This makes me wonder if there will ever be a collaborative "map" so to speak where multiple companies can use the same map, and contribute detail to it. Every time a studio wants to use the real world in their game, they'll have to make their own version, which is a lot of redundant work.
Who knows. I wouldn't count on it though... But there are some half-measures... X-plane for instance doesn't generate it's map out of thin air. The geometry is from world survey data from Nasa and similar groups. And all the street and building placement logic... Is built around using data from 'Open Street Maps' Since the game places buildings dynamically, rather than having a static definition of 'this goes here', that means the street map data is pretty critical to the process... Actually, maybe we need a group similar to OSM to tackle this. Open Simulator World Data maybe? If the level of detail is high enough, it wouldn't just be for Flight simulators, but other kinds of simulation could use it too. Things along the line of 'train simulator' or 'euro truck simulator' or the like... Just some universal database of planetary data that's suitable for use in simulations, in as much detail as volunteers are capable of providing it with...
That was exactly what I asked to myself. This data would be extremely useful not just for game developers but also for other many industries. Microsoft could use this opportunity to promote this game, the data and Azure at the same time and make tons of money at the end.

EGA had 16 colors, and VGA (in the 8 bit expansion card, 256 colors at low rez, in 16 bit, 256 at "medium" (640x480)) was available by late 1988.
I understood it though as they provide the content over download in real time, so it is still the client generating the graphics. In which case, I'm fairly positive a $500 pc won't run it :)

@@VitorHugoOliveiraSousa Yeah, like you'd ever follow the traffic rules in GTA
@@TheEasyRail no, but your car fly in GTA so you can pass the close street with thousands of cars in hush hour? And even if you take out the traffic, you would take several minutes to cross a real scale version of Los Angeles or New York.

Me: How many cores does my CPU need to run this?

I hope the game can really take advantage of multicore CPUs, but my guess is it will be 90% reliant on the GPUs. It's not at all trivial to parallelize dozens of aspects of gameplay (typically), but maybe something like a flight simulator where the parameters of the game environment change relatively little would be a good fit... Would be a good question for the MSFT developers, actually.

This is going to put every other Flight Sim to shame. Can't wait!
Wait!? You wrote a comment here without a like?
This makes me wonder if there will ever be a collaborative "map" so to speak where multiple companies can use the same map, and contribute detail to it. Every time a studio wants to use the real world in their game, they'll have to make their own version, which is a lot of redundant work.
We should ask google. They have a lot of world data.
Who knows. I wouldn't count on it though...
But there are some half-measures...
X-plane for instance doesn't generate it's map out of thin air.
The geometry is from world survey data from Nasa and similar groups.
And all the street and building placement logic... Is built around using data from 'Open Street Maps'
Since the game places buildings dynamically, rather than having a static definition of 'this goes here', that means the street map data is pretty critical to the process...
Mark Zuckerberg will give you a hand with what the people in those houses (provided by Google) will do and how they will behave.
Honestly tho, Microsoft could make a hell ton of money selling this map data to other companies for other games
That was exactly what I asked to myself. This data would be extremely useful not just for game developers but also for other many industries. Microsoft could use this opportunity to promote this game, the data and Azure at the same time and make tons of money at the end.
