NO season like that before or since from any player, much less one 5'11. He carried that KC team and kept them in many games like no man could at any size. And to top it off, he became a playmaker and secondary scorer on Boston's strong teams in early 80's and got his title. NO one like Tiny A.
+Tena Dockery-Winston Well, he was usually listed at 6'1. I've heard many writers and players say he was more like 5'11. I tend to go with that, he looked more like 5'11 compared to other players out there.
Nate Archibald - leading Assists AND scoring in a season...let that sink in. Top scorer in the league while simultaneously providing the most scoring chances for others 🤯
I was a ballboy for the Sonics from '74-79 and worked in the front office until '83. Archibald came to town in December of '74 and like Jamaal Wilkes (rookie of the year that year) mentioned he was like nothing I had ever seen before, the quickness was "impossible" he just lost people and then could pass almost as well as Pete Maravich. Defenders had to give him so much room and defenses had to collapse on him or he would have an uncontested lay in, hence all of the assists. I think that quickness ended up being his downfall as his achilles ruptured a couple of years later. He was still great but the Celtics didn't need him to carry the load. By then he was a wily veteran and could help his team in other ways as well. This video didn't do his quickness justice, but it was good to see him getting the accolades all the same.
Did Tiny play against Slick watts ,norm van lier, Geoff Petrie,I wish James Silas played in the NBA with houston.he was supposed to play with Calvin Murphy
@@marcconnelly5652 I know he played against Slick, Van Lier, & Petrie. James Silas was an incredible talent as well. That whole San Antonio team was a force to be reckoned with. They took the Bullets to 7 games in the Eastern Finals in '79, the year the Sonics won it all. I think by then Silas's best years were behind him, but he was still a very dangerous player. I don't know how it would have worked with both him and Murphy in the same back court, they may have suffered on the defensive end a bit. I can't recall exactly, but Silas was a relatively small guard and Murphy was under 5' 10". You are bringing back great memories.
Why in the hell do people who make these sports documentaries insist on adding in this god awful background music that makes it extremely difficult to hear what the people are saying....
Brings back memories of my childhood in Kansas City - listening to the games in our basement on the radio, shooting hoops at the homemade basket my dad made for me. Tiny was the inspiration.
Nate was way ahead of his time . He would’ve relished in the league today being lead by point guards that can score . Todays game is not as physical as well . No hand check. He would’ve been killing these guys today.
Damn Nate. You are so awesome. I still remember you were about to be Mayor for NYC and I still remember that you ran the company called The Spectator. Didn't know you were a basketball player
The only player ever to lead the league in scoring and assists for one season. Surprising that so one ever chose him in the All Star draft. In fact, other than Kevin Mchale, who chose only Celtics, those guys left out many greats from the 70's and 80's. Left ff rosters-Tiny, David Thompson, George Gervin, Speccer Haywood, Rick Barry, Phil Chenier, Bob Lanier, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Slick Watts, Paul Westphal, Charlie Scott, Bernard King, Bill Walton, Walter Davis, Calvin Murphy, Bob MacaDoo, George McGinnis, etc. Great times. Still remember the H.O.R.S.E games at half time.
Nate was really the first big time scoring point guard, facilitating the way for coaches to free their point guards to create for everyone, but to get two points anyway possible. These legends series were really great. Robin Roberts, herself an accomplished Ncaa women's player brings a real love basketball to as the host. NBA TV needs to start a new legends series before we start losing any more legends to father time. GREAT SMOOTH JAZZ...THAT'S CALLED MUSIC
During my early years of playing basketball Tiny was first "little man" I saw control a game. I immediately said I want to control a game like him. Years later when I had to control the game against some of the best high school players in NC those early observations from Tiny came in handy and even help me lead my team to victory against MJ(Laney), Kenny Gattison (New Hanover) and Lynwood Robinson (Southern Wayne). At 5'10 I always led my team in scoring, assist and steals. Thank you for the lessons, Tiny.
Was James silas equal to Tiny Archibald.mel Daniel's thought that Silas was the greatest point guard of all time.he lost a lot of speed too from injuries.hubie brown thought that Silas was the best point guard in either league during the merger
Nate was truly great. I saw him play at Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. At 2:45 someone said "they would knock him down". Early in his NBA career he played in the air. He was an early version of Dr. J and Michael Jordan. Although he was a physical specimen, he was just too small to fly in the NBA except for a few truly glorious seasons. When he played with the Celtics, a mutual friend told me that Nate could still fly, but he refused to subject himself to the pounding that flying entailed. Whether that was true or not, I do not know. As was stated in the video, with the Celtics he accepted the role of playmaker. In the 1972-73 season, Nate Archibald led the NBA in assists and points. He averaged 34 points/game!
I love the flute music!! I love Nate as well!! I am from KC and grew up and idolized this man's play. The Kings never had a great team, but Nate always gave them a chance.
Iverson is my fav player of all time. I always heard him compared to this guy. I guess ppl back then feel the same way I feel about Iverson now. Wish I coulda got to watch tiny play.
Had the honor to have him working in my school in Harlem in my 8th grade year at P.S.175/I.S.275. and that was in '93. Even got to play with him in a 2 on 2 game during gym class
We played the last ten minutes of the Buena Park Boys Club Championship as the halftime show at a Lakers game, and Nate came out of the locker room and watched us!!!!
He had the benefit of having Bob Cousy coach him and he let him do his thing. If Calvin Murphy had switched teams teams and coaches with Archibald, they'd be talking about Calvin as one of the all time greats instead of just a hall of famer.
He is one of the legends I always brag about, he was FEARLESS!! didn't give a damn about yo size he could take you to the hoop and score, fast break? just pay attention cuz he's gonna get you the PILL and you had better score . NATE WAS A BAD MAN!
Two way player his Utep coach was a defensive drill master so layered upon his playground offensive penetrating and pitching was a fierce defender not celebrated as much but evident to pro partners like van lier . High volume free throw shooter especially his first 7 years in the league but the Knocks contributed to injuries.
curt2g1998 Exactly. Plus Tiny was a FAR better true point guard, whereas Iverson was known as a pure scorer. Not slighting Iverson, but it's really not a good comparison, b/c both were different players. But that said, like you rightly stated, Tiny could also score with the best of em, AND lead the league in assists the same year. Just to be the ONLY player in NBA history to achieve that feat speaks volumes as to how great Tiny was.
Iverson was actually a fine passer. Problem was, he often passed as a last resort in desperation. He could've been like a right handed Tiny if he had the mindset. I believe anyhow.
72-73 was ridiculous. 34.0 ppg, 11.4 assists. And over 52% of his teams points went through him that season, highest ever.
NO season like that before or since from any player, much less one 5'11. He carried that KC team and kept them in many games like no man could at any size. And to top it off, he became a playmaker and secondary scorer on Boston's strong teams in early 80's and got his title. NO one like Tiny A.

His prev yr was nearly as impressive. Look it up.

+Mick A He is a personal friend of mine so I know what I'm talking about.
Nate Archibald - leading Assists AND scoring in a season...let that sink in. Top scorer in the league while simultaneously providing the most scoring chances for others 🤯
52% of his teams points
Truly the most underrated greatest point guard to ever played the game. M
He can't be greater than James Silas. He was 6'1 too
was James silas equal to Tiny
Hard facts man
This dude does *work* for me in 2k.
I literally just passed him up for Damian Lillard in my fantasy draft😀

@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C WTF does any of your drivel have to do with my post???
@Kris Kohlmeyer Yeah, I didn't look at his homepage until after I posted, LOL
😂😂😂
Nate Archibald....perhaps the quickest guard ever.
Carl Hopkinson Quickest guard who could PLAY.
+Mick A hehehe true
That title now belongs to future Kings legend… De’Aaron Fox 😉
You think he quicker than tony Parker?
Deaaron Fox really resembles his game. Hard to say who is faster.

underrated and ahead of his time, tiny could ball in any decade, quick, great handles and vision
Damn Nate. You are so awesome. I still remember you were about to be Mayor for NYC and I still remember that you ran the company called The Spectator. Didn't know you were a basketball player
Best point guard to ever come out of New York City.
Yes Bob Cousy is.

Same here
Nate was one of my favorite players back then, i had his basketball card.
One of my favorite players

Nate, you'll always be among the greatest. From Royals to Celtics, you lit it up buddy.
Bucky still speaks warmly of you too, says the Truth...

Biggest little man to EVER play the game.
I remember Nate showing up at a park in Newark chopping up and showing us moves etc for over an hour, we were stunned.
"Given a chance I can play". Could he ever. Like no one else before or since.
I love the flute music!! I love Nate as well!! I am from KC and grew up and idolized this man's play. The Kings never had a great team, but Nate always gave them a chance.
One of my favorite players of all time
Thank you for posting this video! I am 6 1 point guard and it's nice to see other players I cab relate too.
Nice video! Always great to see really great people doing great things!
Iverson is my fav player of all time. I always heard him compared to this guy. I guess ppl back then feel the same way I feel about Iverson now. Wish I coulda got to watch tiny play.
Peak Tiny was better than Iverson
If only he and oscar could have played together! Talking about what could have been one of the best backcourts of all time!
Archibald was the quickest guy to the basket I have ever seen.
ONE OF MY IDOLS
Had the honor to have him working in my school in Harlem in my 8th grade year at P.S.175/I.S.275. and that was in '93. Even got to play with him in a 2 on 2 game during gym class

the damn music is too loud.
You cant hear him talk
He paved the way for all future point guards
Next time kill the lousy background music so we can hear the commentary.
Trae Young is the closest we have to this legend now
De’Aaron Fox plays quite similar to him as well, especially with Fox’s lighting speed
I remember watching Nate when he played with Oscar Robinson. They played the Lakers. Wilt , Jerry West and Gail Goodrich played.
Don't forget Walt "Clyde" and Earl "the Pearl"...
The music is too loud I can't hear what they are saying.
my dad use to talk about tiny archibal all the time .. he use to watch him play in college
the dam music is louder than the commentary
his college years being coached in El Paso by great Don Hasnkins the only coach in Texas to win an NCAA title is not "near obscurity"!!!
ReisterJP that what I was thinking like cmon
Loved his game. Was tough and talented.
Did the uploader add the music? Can we have a version where we can hear the actual video?
Heavy Gratitude
Here after the dr.j interview
TNT inside brought me here to see the NBA's most underrated player of all time, I hope I'm not disappointed
You can't hear the voiceover very well, because of the background music.
His game is still super fresh to this day
How come I never heard of this amazing player before
Can you make the music a little louder?
He had the benefit of having Bob Cousy coach him and he let him do his thing. If Calvin Murphy had switched teams teams and coaches with Archibald, they'd be talking about Calvin as one of the all time greats instead of just a hall of famer.
background music way too loud. can't hear anyone
Legend
I heard Austin Carr say that he used to work out with Nate, and that Nate ran 10 miles a day, and 5 miles on game day...What?
Nate was a jet and had great stamina too. If you wanna lead the NBA in scoring and assists in the same year, you better have somethin
He is one of the legends I always brag about, he was FEARLESS!! didn't give a damn about yo size he could take you to the hoop and score, fast break? just pay attention cuz he's gonna get you the PILL and you had better score . NATE WAS A BAD MAN!
Archibald was better than any guard in Today’s NBA!

Just found out that Dr. J likes Tiny Nate also
Dr. J was like a tall Tiny Archibald
