Hi Jeff, I have to write and thank you for making such good and interesting presentations of movies. I am 73 years old and live in Sweden and my English is not very good. A lot of RUclipsrs talk so fast it's hard to understand what they're saying, almost like they think an oral presentation is about a running race. But when you talk, I catch up and understand basically everything you say. So thanks again for making such great presentations.🤗
There's a control on every video to change the playback speed. This problem is exactly what it's there for. Just play them back at a slower speed. Personally I usually keep it on 1.5x speed because most RUclipsrs talk way too slowly for me. You have the tools to fix your issues.
@@ps2progamer814 ... You're too young and maybe that's why you're disrespectful. Hopefully you'll make it to the golden years, then it'll be your turn for someone else to make that same rude remark. Good luck!😉
I had never seen it and never liked the talking heads, I went and bought it hoping it would make me a fan of The Talking Heads finally. Not only did I become a fan and finally understand what they are about but the picture was stunning and the Atmos music was brilliant. It so profoundly surpassed my expectation, AND the packaging was really awesome.
I was watching part of "The Crow" on RUclips and then transitioned to the 4K disc once I was able halfway through the film. It's like the difference between walking through a seedy alley and then walking through a well cared for museum.
Very glad you discovered "La Femme Nikita"! I don't know how but I saw it on its video release in the early 90's and it gave me a deep passion for French film.
You didn't know about La Femme Nikita?!?! Oh, Jeff! I'm gonna guess you're a couple years younger than me because just in North America the 1990 film (directed by Luc Besson!) spawned a 1993 remake called Point of No Return starring Bridget Fonda, the 1997 TV series that ran five seasons on USA Network, and the 2010 TV series on CW (4 seasons). It's also probably the reason we got Leon/The Professional! Glad you finally got to see this gem!
Man I love Paprika so damn much. Glad to see you giving it some love Jeff! I'd also throw The Raid: Redemption on here just for the massive improvement over the HD release.

Hello from France, in terms of animated films, if you haven't already seen them, I'd recommend the first Ghost in the Shell, and especially the second Innocence. The first is essentially classic animation (1995), the second features digital images (released in 2004 and presented that year at the Cannes Film Festival). Innocence can be seen without having seen the first film.
It has been confirmed that Paramount Presents will be printing more copies. I missed out on the initial first run, but if you are patient, they will be adding some more copies. As far as I know, no confirmed date. I would recommend holding off versus paying eBay scalper prices. As of the time of this video, there are no major retailers that have copies for sale (that aren't 3rd party scalpers).
3:37 The Abyss was the movie that convinced me that Ed Harris is one of the best actors to ever exist. I recently watched the abyss a few months ago and the scene where he has to resuscitate Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was awesome to see. Ed Harris is an incredible actor.
I know you usually put movies on these lists Jeff but Queen Rock Montreal in 4K is absolutely amazing. The visual is a great upgrade on the Blu-ray and the sound quality is amazing.
Hi Jeff - I agree, Narc is a brilliant film (great disc as well) and seriously underrated. I'd not seen it since I imported on DVD many years back and it was just as good as I remembered and thankfully looked a lot, lot better!
Thanks man, I’ve got Little Darlings, Nikita and Chinatown already. But grabbed Oldboy, I had held off on it because I had gotten it on fairly recently on blu-ray, but you sold me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. Also grabbed The Crow which I had wanted but there is so much coming out that in got lost in the shuffle for me, thank you for the reminder.
A couple of my picks: Super Mario Bros. (1993)- a couple rough patches and no HDR, but the 4K print is pretty good. Umbrella went crazy with the bonus features, especially if you got the big box set with the script and BTS books. The Devil's Honey- I loved the HDR color grading on this Fulci movie. And I loved the look of the print, it looked authentic as if an actual film print was playing on my screen. A bit soft here and there, but it seemed natural to me. And while it did come out in July, I did like the Twister 4K. That Atmos track is NUTS!!!
Waited for "The Abyss" for all these years, and I am glad I bought it. But disc of the year so far is "Chinatown." That is a miraculously awesome restored transfer. It has perhaps the best screenplay ever.
Hey Jeff. I really enjoyed Narc too. It was a film I remember from the video rental days but had never got round to seeing it. The Arrow edition is awesome. I was surprised to not see the Super Mario Bros Trust the Fungus edition on your list considering it was sitting right next to your head for the whole video haha.
La Femme Nikita is an absolute classic. It’s a very well known film made by Luc Besson (Léon: The Professional and Fifth Element). La Femme Nikita was remade as “Black Cat” in Hong Kong (recently released by Vinegar Syndrome) and “Point of No Return” in Hollywood. There was also a show in Canada and another more recent one on the CW. If you don’t have Black Cat from Vinegar Syndrome, which includes the sequel, pick it up! One of the lesser known and extremely good Hong Kong action films. Bound from Criterion was a spectacular 4K release, and it’s an underrated gem from the Wachowskis right before The Matrix. Some other great 4Ks released this year were Bound (Criterion), Lone Star (Criterion), Phase IV (Vinegar Syndrome), eXistenZ (Vinegar Syndrome), and American Gigolo (Arrow). Night Falls on Manhattan is a great release from Arrow, but no 4K.
Love Narc, have the Blu Ray which I think is German. Definitely upgrade to 4k although we have not had it released here in the UK so will have to dig deep to get this across the pond
My tv unexpectedly broke but walmart was having a sale on 4k TVs. I already have a lot just because I prefer the cover art, but I'm looking forward to actively buying 4K. I'm glad I have you as a resource. Please let the Terminator transfer be good.

Jeff, the comment “I can’t imagine it ever looked this good,” when you were talking about La Femme Nikita took me a bit by surprise coming from you. Maybe you were talking about the physical releases, but it seemed like you were talking about the theatrical release. What a great 4K does is reproduce exactly what the original theatrical prints looked like. Older examples of movies I saw in the original release are Star Wars, Grease, Little Darlings, Jaws and Tremors. Each of these movies are recreated perfectly onto 4K UHD and they all take me back. Sometimes 4K’s like Empire Strikes Back, Batman and In the Mood for Love are played around with, or don’t have the original filmmakers around, these can be partial failures. The area that doe improve is the music. Now I haven’t picked up La Femme Nikita yet so I don’t quite know which category it falls into, and I’ve only seen it once in the theater, and from what I remember it looked amazing, but I can’t wait to pick this up.

What about the newly released South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut - 25th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray? It just came out and reviews are great so far.
Hopefully you won't have to double dip if they release a black chrome version. The steel book is sold out here in Canada. Haven't seen it yet.I want it.
Sorry to bother but....I have bunch of dvd/blu-ray to get rid of, I'm moving and the collection cannot make the transfer. talking 80's, 90's about 200 of them. Can't be bothered with ebay etc. want to pass it over to hard core fan.
Looks like this made the list because of the visuals and audio, and can't really disagree with that. The infra red scenes alone make it worthy. But I agree, the story was too Hollywood for me, and Part 1 was better.

What about the newly released South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut - 25th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray? It just came out and reviews are great so far.
Great list but Chinatown was very disappointing imo, I expected a lot more
I'm still waiting on 'Killers Of The Flower Moon' movie to be release on 4K, I mean it should've been release on 4K (or Blue Ray) months ago.
There is a European release, but watch out. One is 4K region-locked, another is not. The companion Blu-rays are region B locked. They both look great.
I knew about La Femme Nikita because of the tv show with Maggie Q called Nikita which I think is a remake
No kino lorber, narrow margin?
The Pianist
i just realized… i don’t think i’ve bought a single 4k in 2024😮
Im praying and hoping Sony does the Grande bleu on 4k my favourite Besson movie, and subway, and where in the name of god is both cape fears on 4k !!!
Dune part 2
Im exited for the 4K steelbook of Furiosa
Hopefully you won't have to double dip if they release a black chrome version. The steel book is sold out here in Canada. Haven't seen it yet.I want it.
Sorry to bother but....I have bunch of dvd/blu-ray to get rid of, I'm moving and the collection cannot make the transfer. talking 80's, 90's about 200 of them. Can't be bothered with ebay etc. want to pass it over to hard core fan.
I am from India here and don't have any bluray shops 😢
Chinatown is a great 4k, but adding the Two Jakes was pointless, a poor unnecessary sequel. The downside is that yo pay for this too.
Thank you Jeff!!
Dune 2 is a visual feast, but I might be in the minority here because I felt the actual story and the pacing was really terrible.
Not just you, I really like the first one but the 2nd one was quite meh and I wanted it to end.
It's not that you "might", you definitely are in the vast minority who thinks it "terrible". A hard disagree with your assessment buddy.
Looks like this made the list because of the visuals and audio, and can't really disagree with that. The infra red scenes alone make it worthy. But I agree, the story was too Hollywood for me, and Part 1 was better.

@@marlonrobalino Ok, I don't really care.
