Once you have close to max aura, you can also often save your double jump and go under the stage to recover. No character is fast enough to 2 frame you on the other side of the stage, and if they go early enough to cover the other ledge, you can simply decide to go to the first ledge.

One thing worth remembering is that while the speed of Extreme Speed increases with Aura, the duration of the move does not. The move will complete in the same amount of frames regardless of Aura. This means that if you're trying to change direction mid-flight, you'll have to adjust earlier at higher Aura levels. It can seem counter-intuitive sometimes since the extra momentum granted at higher speeds may make the move seem like it takes longer to complete if you end it in the air, but you'll get the hang of it with a little practice.

I also play Steve, and one thing that is useful for elytra angles also seems to work for Lucario. By flicking the tilt stick while also utilizing the control stick to actually control up B, you can make some more minute/precise adjustments to the angle/direction that Lucario goes. I'm assuming it's just to do with how tilts are programed by the game, but I use it in my Lucario games to add a little more consistency to the angles.
