One of the top five live performences in Metal history
#METALGODS
Dicksmash McIroncock that is such a risky opinion to throw out there but I can’t disagree.Absolutely an amazing performance by Tate here
Yeah I think this actually sounds better than the studio version which is rare.
@@darrellwood3913 PASSION. That is why Dicksmash said it :D
Yeah dude, I think you're right.
Almost note-for-note from the album.
Absolute stellar performance!
No auto tune...live. Damn. These guys had mastered their craft
Rage for Order by Queensryche is an absolute gem of an album
agree.
I agree 💯%!!
Absolutely,such an under rated album
@@darrellwood3913 walk in the shadows is top 5 metal hard rock song of all time for me. it is not an epic song like hallowed be thy name, but it is great metal. some of my faves of all time are, hallowed and the trooper by maiden, the first 2 crue records-red hot, livewire etc., bringin on the heartbreak by def lepp, last in line by dio, crazy train and shot in the dark by ozzy, killing in the name of and guerilla radio by rage, tom sawyer and spirit of radio by rush, billy squiers first album(dont say no), comedown and machine head by bush. all of the surfing with alien by joe satriani, pearl jam ten and nirvana nevermind, tesla the entire record-mechanical resonance= comin atcha live is a must, im a loser by ufo, march by rebel inc, still of the night by whitesnake, tell me what you want by zebra, kingdom come- what love can be, still loving you, no one like you, believe in love by scorpions, and a million more. i know/like lots of obscure stuff too.
HollingsworthGroup wow,so many awesome songs you mentioned that are also favorites of mine but the one that really popped out at me was Zebra-Tell me what you want.I thought I was the only person that loves Zebra..lol.I love Who’s behind the door and Tell me what you want.Great taste in music my friend!
Geoff Tate was probably the greatest metal singer at that time, great reaction...
Check out Tesseract's Daniel Thompkins. great range from angelic/melodic to super high falsetto to low deep growl. he's a vocal teacher/coach as well
Dio , Gillian , Rob Halford then Geoff Tate for all time
Ahhh, No Bruce Dickerson
@@johnheneghan2553 I'm the biggest Maiden fan out there. But I have to say that this would be more of a coin-toss between Bruce and Halford at that point in time. Either way, as far as heavy metal goes the clear standard for singing begins and ends with Halford and Dickinson. There are those guys and then everyone else. Tate falls in somewhere (close) behind them though.
Indeed!
this was an encore at the end of this concert in Tokyo. What a set of pipes!!! to hit the E5 that clear and strong at the end of a 2 hour show says a lot about the Quality of Geoffs voice. Being a vocalist myself, I know it ain't easy.
And you notice the first high note was an A4 I think (from what vocal coaches have said), then he immediately transitions into the first E5. Then Geoff Tate spent the majority of the song in the 5th Octave, and also hit the E5 a couple more times (with an excellent full Vibrato the second time). Absolutely amazing, especially since from what I've heard he's actually a Baritone as far as natural voice range.
Queensryche is my band from as long as I can remember...I was born in '82. Thank you dad!
This was the song that hooked me! He sounds just as good live as in the studio, his vocals well you heard them, just amazing!
this is a vocal performance very few of the top vocalists could even match, i remember when this came out as a single and nobody thought Geoff Tate was able to do it live
I saw them and Judas Priest on the JP reunion tour. Both bands were amazing.
@@LogansWarning wow what a double header that was, not many tours could beat that
@@stevenwilliams4172 yep! I was center in 10 row. So close that I could hear Tate and Halford without the mics. Unforgettable.
@@LogansWarning im going back a little, but i seen Priest on the Killing Machine tour in Cardiff and they started off with Delivering the Goods, Robs voice caused readings on the Richter scale, supporting them was UFO, worth every penny of the £3.75 ticket price lol
@@stevenwilliams4172 LOL! Now that is a show I would have loved to have seen.
I was 15 when I 1st heard that song and it fucking blew me away. This is the song that changed my life and turned me into a metalhead!!!! \m/
Operation Mindcrime is a Must listen. The best concept album of all time. 🤘🤘
Realize im 4 years late to the party...hmm, first time i heard this particular song, i was either in high-school or had just graduated. I really got into them when mindcrime came out and became my favorite band. My best friend was a huge fan before me and i might have heard this, im sure, before i did graduate. It took me a little to get onto them but once i did ot was over. I learned to appreciate their brilliance thr more and more i listened. And i listened, que Lloyd Christmas, ALOT.
More than the outstanding range, what impressed me about Tate's opening scream was its lack of breakup and unwavering pitch.
Think of the songs that were popular in 1985 and then listen to what Queensryche was doing ... world's apart!
Such an awesome song to hear live! Tons of energy!
Ur right, way ahead of their time, the foundations of progressive metal
1985 i had this playing on my walkman age of 20..so engrossed walking from bus stop walked past our house lol
I saw them several times in the 80s. Tate was and still is an amazing vocalist. Great performance!
I seen him do that song live a few times in my life/ it blew me away I almost had a heart attack when he hit those high notes in that register of his..
My first time hearing this song and his voice doesn't fail! So good to hear!
Just subbed your channel. I like this concept you do. Queensryche are an incredible band from the 80's to the present.
Yes! So many are stuck in time but there's great stuff off of every album. Granted, DTC only has one as opposed to many but still.
This is among the best bands to see live! the live show music sounds just as good as the recorded tracks!!
The is probably my favorite Ryche song. So many dynamics. That original lineup was amazing.
my first time was in 84 when I was 17 and I just bought the warning album and was sitting in my room and was instantly blown away and in aw of this guys vocals and this band.
Kel you are dead on about the highly intelligent lyrics and intricate music. The power & range is amazing on this track and the live performance shows how much hard work and training the lead singer had to endure to reach this level of ability. Geoff is still considered one of the very best while he was in his prime in the 80's.
I started to listen Queensrÿche back in 80's, when this album came out. Check out a song from their next album after Warning, called Rage For Order, the song's called I Dream In Infrared!
That's one of my favorite songs
my fav tune from Rage
Killing Words
Love Warning and the hole Rage for order album
Dream In Infrared isn't really a Queensryche song. Too electronic and Pop-like. Walk In The Shadows is better IMHO.
This song takes me back to a time that was very hard for me. I had just started listening to this song, repeatedly. My girlfriend at that time died in a housefire, quite literally when I started listening to this song, and so I couldn't listen to this song for a very long time. Now, I listen to it and remember her, the love I had for her (this happened when we were both in high school) and how my life has turned out. Queensryche has always been one of my top 3 favorite bands. I am happy your reaction is positive, I am just happy that the song brings joy to you both, and to me now, so many years after a very sad time in my life. Peace....
This band means so much to me, I bought their EP when it was released without hearing any of the songs and have been a huge fan ever since.
I still have that vinyl :)
The Live in Tokyo Video was the 1st time I heard Queensryche, sight unseen. Completely blown away
My Aunt actually saw Queensryche back in a roller rink in Seattle in the early '80s before they got famous. My Stepdad saw them in a 1500 seater venue. Both of them were blown away.
That is why I love y'alls channel. This is not a channel about saying this is better than that, it's a channel about the music. That's all that matters. If it sounds good to you, you listen. And some songs, when you listen, you feel. That is what music (metal in particular) does to me. It makes me feel. ✌
Watching these reactions to this song, you always wait for the look when they hear "the note"!
I heard this was an night encore @ the end of the night. Imagine having the energy to sing & perform like this after a set, they're Machines!
I met Geoff Tate after his concert back in 1988 with my buddy who got me to the door of his bus. He was alone drinking Saki and offered us a taste telling us that it helped his vocal cords! Hahah, ya right!....My buddy told me to sing the beginning of "Take Hold The Flame" to him since I was singing a rock band myself. I sang the first few bars of it and he told me "You have great voice, great projection"! ....I nearly fell over when he said that!.....It was so cool to meet him and chat with him with no other people around, just a great memory I will "hold onto" for ever.
Oh and there is a video on RUclips I watched today...it was off the OMC album, and it was just a month ago! and Geoff sounds great! be sure to check it out!
Oh and where do you buy your shirts man! I love them.
I first seen Queensryche in 1984 when they opened for KISS and I have loved them since, my all time favorite band!
My girlfriend and I were on the way to Las Vegas to get married. And I had a kick ass sound system in my king cab pickup. We rocked the Columbian Gold and this song all the way there!
Really appreciate your words Kel - I've felt that way from my teenage years. I could never understand how people would bad-talk metal BUT never give it a chance as far as talent. Whether it's in the musicality, arrangement, creativity, lyricism, story-telling, etc. There is just so much talent in so much of the metal/rock genre.
My favorite Queensryche song! I saw Queensryche in 2003 in Baton Rouge, La. and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. This was one of the songs they played.
This is one of the best songs especially love concert, the best voice I've ever heard
I was 20 years old and in The Marine Corp when I heard this version of this song. I was in our Rec room late on a Saturday night in Camp Pendleton Ca. The guys in the room were watching videos but not on MTV. I sat down and was blown away. What a voice! Then I saw their name.
Hey I know these Guys.
I went to my locker and pulled out the EP and The Warning on cassette.
I sat down and popped The Warning into my cassette player and woke up everyone in the squad bay.
I’d heard the albums but for whatever reason it didn’t get to me.
But on that night in 1985 Queensrÿche became one of my favorite bands.
For days I wondered why I didn’t like them right off.
A friend walked by and said in reply to a question that I asked to no one.
Who cares, man. Just enjoy it.
So I did and still do.
So, Take Hold of the Flame.
Nice story. Yeah I knew about this band for decades, I remember as a kid seeing Silent Lucidity on MTV but it wasnt my flavor. Years later as a bonnafide metalhead I chanced upon this live performance and I was BLOWN away. Since then I've been easing into their albums.
1985 I was 18 year's old back in the day! I saw this tour they open up for kiss and blew them away hand's down and then Headline this tour that u are seeing before you!and saw them 86-87 rage for order 🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸 and then operation Mindcrime with Metallica 88 Long Beach arena Long Beach CA ryche 4life!!
Saw this tour and there were alot of jaws on the floor
Top shelf!!! Definitely 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You would like "Queen of the Reich" too
good song.
The Lady Wore Black is another from the same concert, superbly done.
TLWB is actually the first song they ever wrote together as a group. Classic Ryche.
What a great song and a hell of a performance from a local legendary Seattle band! I went to high school with the Base players sister Olga. Really enjoyed the reaction.
Queensryche always been my favorite band because of that , he has that gift of a voice that many wish they had
Love this song
That's hard to beat... My FAVORITE band of all time..
I was in Sioux falls s.d when I heard this song they are and always will be my favorite band
I've seen Queenryche a few times live back in the day and they always sounded great.
Where was I the first time I saw this video? Staring out of my apt. window on Geary st. in S.F,watching it rain, high on cocaine,Santa Marta gold & Wild Turkey.A typical Tuesday night at 3:00 a.m
. when this came on. You asked!
Queensryche is one of those bands that everything they do is awesome........
Queensryche with Geoff Tate singing, were a band of supreme talent & creativity. This era with Chris DeGarmo on guitar was nothing short of awesome.
Began listening to QR with this video in about 85 when I was 15. Saw them 4 times in subsequent years and live was as good or better than recorded sound wise. Live shows were amazing. Amazing band and Geoff could sing like no one else.
I love that you're getting to know Queensryche! Mindcrime, in my personal opinion, is one of the greatest, complete rock albums ever recorded! Take Hold of the Flame is one of their greatest songs, and I get emotional just watching the two of you experience it, for the first time.
I think one more #Queensryche song you should experience... #RoadToMadness, from the same album as Take Hold of the Flame. Beautiful song with amazing lyrics, mind blowing vocals, brilliant key changes and smooth time signature changes. I really think you'll fall in love with it!
Danny Hendrie
Lubbock, TX
one of the best songs they've done...the scream at the beginning is the best...i hope this live version they do it well
Where was I when I first heard this song? I remember clear as day. It was on Kel-n-Rich channel on RUclips about 15 minutes ago 🤪
First heard this on a NY based radio station called 'Fingers' Metal Shop.' Blew....my.....doors.....OFF!!!! Been a fan ever since!
Hey...here's a suggestion...check out HEAR N' AID - WE'RE STARS
Features Dio, Geoff Tate, Rob Halford, more, and awesome guitar solos from many badasses. Song was recordedfor African famine relief(like WE ARE THE WORLD....but for metal haeds).
FUCK YESSSSSS !!!! “who’ll cry for the chillllldrrreeeeenenenenen ??? I doooooooo “
Yes Geoff had a couple of lines to sing like all the other greats on there, but he absolutely threw his all into it, and you can make out that it is distinctly him. Around that same time he was (IMHO) experimenting with throwing in some spookier overtones/effects to his voice like in Rage For Order (Whisper, Gonna Get Close, Neue Regel, Screaming In Digital), and that same kinda effect comes thru in his voice on We're Stars. Dio absolutely nailed the perfect vocalists and guitarists for that song 🤘
I guess the only noteworthy missing on that track was Bruce Dickinson
I was at Demontfort Hall in Leicester UK when I first heard this track. It was 1984 and Queensryche were the support act for Dio. From that moment I was and still am a massive Queensryche fan. Give Roads to Madness a listen.
Wow what a gig good on you for being there
Holy smokes, Queesryche was one of my favorite bands in the 80's to early 90's got to see them several times. when that song came out I was living in Greely, Colorado. Guys, I love ur channel as you bring so many wonderful memories back to mind. Now I am a 56-year-old dude who only reminisces of those days but thanks to u guys, Keep rocking it out my brother and sister in Rock
Unlike other reviewers who get lost by Geoff's voice, and who hasn't, I enjoyed the appreciation shown to the rest of the band's talents, especially Chris DeGarmo solo. He's one of my favorite guitarists of all time. I was in my early 20's when introduced to Queensryche, and the intelligence their songs conveyed. I stood out as a girl fan in the early days too.
I watched the British voice coach girl react to this. I think they had to clean up her chair afterwards. She was really diggin Geoff.
I think she wants to be alone with Geoff and wants to exchange howls with him. I think she got gushy inside.
😂 She sang a little love song to him at the end...
I saw that
Rebecca's channel. On the third E-5 octave scream, she was s dreaming for her mother. She literally screamed, "MOTHER!!!!!!!"
There is another British vocal coach reacting to Take Hold of the Flame, Beth Roars. She said flat out, "I give up. It's perfect." and later, saying the song left her speechless.
My first introduction to Queensryche was the EP in 1984. A few months later the tour hit Sacramento, CA when they opened for Kiss! QR absolutely ruled the show. The stage barrier up front collapsed and people were stacked on top of each other......fortunately no one was hurt and QR did a great job getting everyone back in control. Bad ass band.
Queensryche - so awesome!! This song of their album Warning - one of the best!
Remember buying Queen of the ryche and The lady wore Black on 12 single when it was first released oh god all those years ago
Finally starting to see this amazing song get reacted to. 2nd reaction to this song in the past week... Thank you!
#QueensrycheKingdom I remember listening to this on vinyl & cassette in middle school and going to my friend’s house and trying to learn how to play these songs. Road trip Rage for Order album! 🤟🔥🔥
One of the greatest bands of all time. Geoff Tate awesome vocalist and a very underrated drummer.
Todd Latorre, the new singer, is the one who drums. Played drums on the last album. My pal.
Hey pal, this was 1987 so I believe Scott Rockenfeld was the drummer. Tate is the true vocalist not this new poser.
1985 whatever
Lead guitarist was bad ass too.
Scott Rockenfield,, I think that's how you spell it. Absolutely underrated.
Geoff Tate what an incredible voice. I have seen this video a douzen times and it blows me away, even live the man is consistant
I'm 50 now but was in 11th or 12th grade when I 1st heard this song. Been blown away ever since!
Saw them open for KISS in of 1985. So loud it was insane!! Was so amazing.
I did too!!! In Dallas at Reunion arena!
He seemed to really enjoy this song, saying top shelf and sweet multiple times ... Then I noticed her hand is in his lap the whole review. Take Hold of the Flame indeed
Nick Johnson That’s sick, man! Sick! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Geoff Tate is and always will be the voice of Queensryche! The combination of Geoff and Degarmo brought an amazing series of albums. With Degarmo scorching without losing the rhythm of the band, and Geoff hitting notes few could dream of and doing it so smoothly!
After 10 songs Geoff can still belt out the high notes in the 5th octave saw live 10 times in the 80s !
The song Roads to Madness off of The Warning album............Kel will love it.
Jeff tate was trained as an opera singer in canada and so glad he we can see him as a badass. Ive seen queensryche 6 times .and love all of it
No he wasn't. He had the same vocal training that Ann Wilson and Layne Staley had. They're all from Seattle. Only difference is he only had 10 lessons.
His name was David P Kyle. No opera training in Canada.
I saw Queensryche along with Ratt in 1985 at an area civic center in Beaumont, Texas, and Geoff Tate (the vocalist) blew us away.
Wish music like this would come back!
I bought this on cassette a few weeks after it was released in 1984. I was a sophmore in high school. I saw them August 86 in concert, they opened for AC/DC.
Live.... no autotune shit! TATE AND THE BOYS AT THEIR BEST!
Just now saw that you had done this reaction so glad you did and I got chills ! Now you need to listen to Oueen of the Ryche thanks Again xoxo
Need to react to Queensryche I will remember unplugged great vocal performance!!!
Anything by Queensryche that's fantastic I've seen them six times live and he always sounds that great
Watched again....AGAIN!
One of my favorite metal bands! Definitely in my top 5 favorite metal bands. Geoff is a phenom, but the lyric is what really made me a Queensryche fan!
One of the most UNDERRATED bands AND singer in rock/metal ......
Brilliant band especially back then
one of my favorite songs.. that hold album is good..
GIMME BACK MY 80’S!!! ;D
The Warning has so many great songs. The first 3 Queensryche albums are gold. I got into them in 1998 when Operation Mindcrime came out. I was 11 and my brother in law played it. After that I got ahold of all the Queensryche i could.
1988
@@sfjarhead4062 Yeah when you get old the years just all blend together.
I wanted her to hear this one his voice is just out of this world.
They did go all in..Quensryche was all by them selves in the 80 + 90 there sound was unique and Operation mind crime will always be the greatest album of all time.
I bought The Warning album when it came out in '84. Me and my best friend played this album at least twice a day for years
The first time I heard this was after popping the cassette into my stereo back in late '84. I was blown away.
Most Beautiful Voice Ever ❤️❤️❤️..... listen to Jet City Woman, I Don’t Believe In Love, Walk In The Shadows, Eyes Of A Stranger👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😁😁😁❤️❤️❤️
Range indeed! But also with serious control too - much unlike his peers, whose chops were certainly noteworthy but a bit erratic and not quite as disciplined vocally as Geoff Tate.
Other notable songs of Queensryche; “I will remember”, “Anybody Listening”, “Road To Madness”, “Della Brown” and “Silent Lucidity” ( [Rich] the last, you surely must have heard...as it had in-fact, been on the Billboard top 10 singles in yr. 1990)
tristanrl1940 “Road to Madness!!” Yes!!!!
Great to see you getting into QR !!! Another live video you need to react to is “Screaming in Digital Live Evolution” Geoff in his best along w Eddie background singing incredible !!!
#painintheask
Holy shit, I must rewatch it. The song alone is one of my favorites.
I saw them open for Ozzie in 1986…unreal live. Geoff is the man! Chris DeMarco is awesome as well (guitar/vocals).
You can't mess with perfection
Me and my first love at 14 or maybe 15 listen to this for the 1st time at her moms house instant love of BOTH her and them age and jeolousy drove us apart but im still in love with the RYCHE!!
I seen there empire tour..... Next to rush. Best live show I've seen.
This song hits home very hard for me. For years, I had a hard time listening to this song because when I started listening to this song my girlfriend died in a house fire (I was 17 at that time). I continued to listen to the song through the grieving (along with a lot of alcohol to ease the pain) until the song was literally etched into every part of my being. I then stopped listening to it for the longest time, trying to move forward. I finally listened to the song after not listening to it for years, and sober, more mature (full fledged musician as well) I heeded the meaning of the song (which is what I should have done much earlier. I guess I didn't realize I was still grieving all that time and in some ways, I still am (which I know now is normal). I have written many songs and poems since, and despite the fact that she has been gone for decades, I still feel her. Now, I listen to the song a lot, an inspiration when I need it, a push when I want it. This band has been my favorite band for most of my life... at that time, Queensryche was far ahead of their time... immerse yourselves into this band. They are wise, deep, and yet very musically satisfying.
