I actually hate fine nibs but I extremely love sailor fine nibs. When it comes to the inks and pens whether it's any page or any paper the King Sailor rules the world. Hail to the sailor.
I love theyr aesthetic but nibs are too thin for me. I get that kanji are more delicate than Western alphabet but I would use them as I use my Pilot Metropolitan, for worse quality paper that cannot handle my regular Medium or 1.1 Italics nibs. Not something I would use outside of my office.

Some of us already know the story regarding what happened with you guys and Sailor, from back in the day. Things started out well, but later they didn't treat you guys so well. Brian has always pointed out no animosity on his part towards the brand, and has always extended an olive branch towards Sailor. It's good to see that Sailor finally came around. Congrats on again becoming an Authorized Dealer. The one and only Numbered Limited Edition pen in my collection is from Sailor.
Honestly it was all just a series of miscommunications (on our part too), but it's all water under the bridge now for both us and Sailor. We are very excited to move forward in a positive relationship with them. And thank you! -Rachel

WOW! Congratulations! I've been shopping for a gold nib pen and Sailor is on the short list. While researching other sites, I kept saying, "I SO wish Goulet carried this!" Many sites list only the price under "Description"!! I've enjoyed but never truly appreciated the level of detail you give to EVERY pen-dimensions, cap info, nib writing samples, and often a video (if not for that model at least on the manufacturer)...Amazing! The Pen Community is in your debt for the quantity & Quality of content you've created. I'll never again take the Goulet pen company for granted! Didn't mean this to be so long, with all you do you really deserve (Earned) it. I'd like to continue, but I've got some inks and a pen to put in my cart. ; >

I second that! I have 2 Sailor pens I bought in shops but none described the detail and range as best as you. Especially also the ink ranges. They are very good pens and I really enjoy them.

Very very very nice video! I really liked it! I'm a 52yo Brazilian, just bought my Spencerian Collection, to re-learn how to write correctly and beautifully. It's a dream of mine, and I'm just enjoying it from the start. I decided that everything I did not learn well in school, due to my juvenile brain or uncompromised teachers, I will re-learn, and well, by myself. And the starting point is just caligraphy!

@@Gouletpens I'd certainly encourage this, too. Brian, you didn't mention Sailor's Bungubox line of inks. Admittedly, they ARE pretty pricey, but their Piano Mahogany ink is a wonderful shade of brown, extremely well behaved and worth what I paid for it. In fact, I bought two bottles because I didn't want it to disappear from the market place.
Just got a 1911L about a month ago, as a replacement to my daily Visconti Rembrandt, really missed a review on your channel but hopefully that's coming some time in the future. The pen is truely gorgeous. The shape, though classic, is very well proportioned. The nib performs flawlessly, it's not rock-hard, as some describe it, the feedback is very subtle - it's more in the sound than it is in the feel of the nib on the paper. It's equally as smooth as the Pelikan in terms of writing quality, though.
Oh geez... I just received a Sailor Pro gear in the mail yesterday. Would have loved to have ordered it from you all. My initial assessment is that the fine 21k nib is phenomenal! I feel in love with a platinum fine, which is great, but the sailor is better. I love it. I like to use different color ink in pens of the same color. I use Noodlers bullet proof inks. So I suspect I’ll be buying more sailor pens as I can afford them. Best pen I’ve ever written with. I’m in love. Did I say I love the sailor 21k nib?
I'll vouch for the excellence of Sailor fountain pens. I have at least 11 of them (all sizes of "gear" and "1911") I have one 1911 KOP (King of Pen), which you may also see advertised as the "Profit." I'm happy to see that The Goulets have been steadily increasing the range of pens that they carry, and I hope that their success continues. Theirs is one of the finest businesses that I have ever dealt with.

What an incredible and informative video! Comparing the sizes was really helpful because I don’t have access to try the one in person. I especially appreciate the demonstrations of the music and zoom nibs. I'll have to check out the nib nook and pen drawer pages for more details.
First of all - huge congrats on getting Sailor on board. I am sure it must have been tremendously hard work to get there. Well done! Secondly... Good review video and quite comprehensive of the entire range. BUT Personally I felt the video lacked the Goulet soul. It was like many other product reviews...formal and almost mechanical. The Goulet humour, banter and spirit I felt was missing... Something which can kept me watching every single Goulet Q&A and Write Now for the past 3yrs. Even my wife who is often watching passively as I eagerly watched very video, asked me 'Why are they being so serious?' as I watched this one. I am not sure if this to do with specifically the Sailor launch... But I really hope this isn't representative of a new direction. Hope to see the Goulets going back to what made them the sensation they are.

I think we were trying to be factually correct and present a LOT of information clearly within a short window (without it being, like, an hour long) so maybe some of the banter/humor of other types of videos was lost. I don't think you should read into it as a change in direction, just one style of video that maybe felt a little different. No plans to get away from the original spirit of who we are - in fact, we may have to get pretty creative here in the next few weeks as we are homebound, like the scrappy good ol' days! :) I do think Q&A / Write Now / etc will be back in some form or fashion, when we can return to the office and get back to a normal rhythm. What caught my eye was the nib You described as the 'music nib' in Your video and I was astonished it was so narrow and it's downstroke looks more like a medium. I own a 1911L w. music nib that also has two tines but the width is much broader, like You'd expect from a Stub-type nib. The downstroke delivers at least 5-6 times (and more if flexed) the thickness as the horizontal one that would best be described as 'extra fine' to 'fine'. Are there different music nib sizes in the U.S.? Mine was bought in Japan, along with a 1911L broad, my 'workhorse pen' for everyday office use. All Sailor pens I own are absolutely excellent, be it the Pro Gear Slim or the 1911S.
Thanks for this video. I just bought a pen & it's too big for me. This really made me wonder about pen size & comfort. Now, I cannot return the pen I purchased online, but at least I have something new to look at.

Great to see you bring in Sailors. Thank you for the in depth explanations of the various sizes, styles, nibs and inks. A bit more flexiness of the purer ie. softer gold of the 21 carat to the 14kt. As well, bigger nibs bit more flex. My first "serious" fountain pen, years ago, a 1911. Still has a place of honour. A keeper. Great video. Thanks again.

this is so exciting! my favorite pen in my collection is an older sailor four seasons pen with an MF nib. i typically go for a medium nib -- i have large handwriting, so when a line is *too* fine it starts looking a little wonky, but the MF nib from sailor is honestly perfect; i love it so much and haven't found anything similar in terms of the line it produces or the feel of the nib, which is glorious. they also have, imo, some of the most beautiful inks. really excited to be able to shop this brand on your site (post-pandemic, whenever that is)!

Another quick comment -- super news on stocking the Sailor inks too. I have several (from other suppliers, ahem) and they are some of the best behaved, nicest colors I've seen. My favorite is the Sailor Bungubox (which you didn't mention???) Piano Mahogany brown ink. I constantly struggle to decide whether I like it, or SBRE Brown ink better. Now, the Akkerman bottle that SBRE Brown's Brown ink came in beats the Sailor bottles all to heck, but I love both SBRE Brown and Sailor's Bungubox Piano Mahogany. Great job guys!

I almost lust after a 1911L ... or even a KOP, but I've already bought (too many?) very nice, high end (for me anyway) competitor pens and can't justify the expense now or in the foreseeable future. Nicely done, Brian and Rachel, but ... Ah, well, things don't always go my way. Perhaps a super special event will happen to drive me to move a new Sailor pen all the way through your cart and out the door in my direction. This is the sweetest news I have heard amid the awful environment we’re in right now. Sailor is my favourite of the Japanese Top 3 brands. I have always wished for you guys to stock Sailor pens. I already have the Pro Gear, Realo and the 1911L & S, (seven pens in all). The 21k nib is to die for. Even the 14k is outstanding. Now, I really must finally, belatedly get myself the magnificent Pro Gear KoP.

Dang it! I was trying to stay away from Sailor and stick to Platinum, since Goulet didn’t offer them, it made it easier to justify. After watching this, I am now interested especially in that butterscotch with gold trim (delish).
Is there any other method (other than tilting/ refilling the partly empty ink bottle.. because tilting can get messy & refilling needs pre planning..! ) by which you can refill your fountain pen with no 6 nib fully, from an ink pot, with low ink level..? Though it seems silly, this one has been troubling me for some time..🧐 And continue the good work Brian..You have successfully made me a FP freak..!👋🏼 Also missing Matt very dearly for the past 2 years...Hope he gets back into the saddle..

I love my Sailor, admittedly it is like writing with a fine needle but I love it if I need a super fine nib. Maybe I need to find a medium nib or one of those lovely music nibs,

I own a 1911L w. music nib that also has two tines but the width is much broader, like You'd expect from a Stub-type nib. The downstroke delivers at least 5-6 times (and more if flexed) the thickness as the horizontal one that would best be described as 'extra fine' to 'fine'.
Are there different music nib sizes in the U.S.? Mine was bought in Japan, along with a 1911L broad, my 'workhorse pen' for everyday office use.
All Sailor pens I own are absolutely excellent, be it the Pro Gear Slim or the 1911S.

Great to see you bring in Sailors. Thank you for the in depth explanations of the various sizes, styles, nibs and inks. A bit more flexiness of the purer ie. softer gold of the 21 carat to the 14kt. As well, bigger nibs bit more flex. My first "serious" fountain pen, years ago, a 1911. Still has a place of honour. A keeper. Great video. Thanks again.

Of all the pens I have tried, the Sailor 1911L and Pro Gear pens are my absolute favorite!

this is so exciting! my favorite pen in my collection is an older sailor four seasons pen with an MF nib. i typically go for a medium nib -- i have large handwriting, so when a line is *too* fine it starts looking a little wonky, but the MF nib from sailor is honestly perfect; i love it so much and haven't found anything similar in terms of the line it produces or the feel of the nib, which is glorious. they also have, imo, some of the most beautiful inks. really excited to be able to shop this brand on your site (post-pandemic, whenever that is)!

Another quick comment -- super news on stocking the Sailor inks too. I have several (from other suppliers, ahem) and they are some of the best behaved, nicest colors I've seen. My favorite is the Sailor Bungubox (which you didn't mention???) Piano Mahogany brown ink.
I constantly struggle to decide whether I like it, or SBRE Brown ink better. Now, the Akkerman bottle that SBRE Brown's Brown ink came in beats the Sailor bottles all to heck, but I love both SBRE Brown and Sailor's Bungubox Piano Mahogany.

I have a 1911S and like it a lot, but it's a bit small. I almost lust after a 1911L ... or even a KOP, but I've already bought (too many?) very nice, high end (for me anyway) competitor pens and can't justify the expense now or in the foreseeable future. Nicely done, Brian and Rachel, but ... Ah, well, things don't always go my way. Perhaps a super special event will happen to drive me to move a new Sailor pen all the way through your cart and out the door in my direction. In the meantime LOTS of other folks are going to be VERY happy with this announcement. Thanks.

This is the sweetest news I have heard amid the awful environment we’re in right now. Sailor is my favourite of the Japanese Top 3 brands. I have always wished for you guys to stock Sailor pens. I already have the Pro Gear, Realo and the 1911L & S, (seven pens in all). The 21k nib is to die for. Even the 14k is outstanding. Now, I really must finally, belatedly get myself the magnificent Pro Gear KoP.

Dang it! I was trying to stay away from Sailor and stick to Platinum, since Goulet didn’t offer them, it made it easier to justify. After watching this, I am now interested especially in that butterscotch with gold trim (delish).

Is there any other method (other than tilting/ refilling the partly empty ink bottle.. because tilting can get messy & refilling needs pre planning..! ) by which you can refill your fountain pen with no 6 nib fully, from an ink pot, with low ink level..? Though it seems silly, this one has been troubling me for some time..🧐

I love my Sailor, admittedly it is like writing with a fine needle but I love it if I need a super fine nib. Maybe I need to find a medium nib or one of those lovely music nibs,
