I really respect the fact that this was done with such empathy and respect toward those suffering from schizophrenia. It would have been so easy to turn this into a shock value or purely entertaining thing like many things about this illness do, but instead it was compassionate and informative. Well done Infographics Show!
Please stop showing schizophrenic people with multiple heads/clones. This just reinforces the classic misunderstanding that schizophrenia is DID (multiple personality). Psychosis and dissociations are very different things, I know that from my own experience. Please keep people informed of schizophrenia in a CLEAR manner, don't FEED these misunderstandings!!
Chaka there are a lot of people still under the impression that they are the same disorders. it’s important to point these things out because these illnesses are highly stigmatized and it’s not arrogant to point out when something meant to be informative is damaging.
Personally, I've lived with this horrible condition for quite some time now. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 17, and it's a terrible experience. I had so much going for me. I was attending a prestigious university and was on track for a degree in mechanical engineering. But Life has it's hurdles. I had to let go of my college life to focus on my mental. The voices were always a constant companion, as was the fear and the emotional blunting. It's hard for me to have emotions. I often times feel so numb. Not depression feelings, though I would feel depressed from time to time. But I don't even feel like I'm living, just existing. Dissociation is a common thing for me - like I'm on some kind of autopilot, not even feeling like I have a body. I felt like my life was crumbling around me, and that my mind was coming apart. Schizophrenia has robbed me of many things, not to mention my hopes and dreams. But I am getting better. I now have the voices under control, and I'm no longer afraid. I still feel numbness and dissociated feelings, but now I'm trying to publish a novel based on my experiences, and with that I hope to return to college. I was a broken man for a long time. But now at this point in my life, i can say that I'm finally picking the pieces up again. I'm trying to rebuild what I lost. There's always hope out there. With a combination of medicine, therapy, and with the support of family and friends, one can get better and even thrive. And that's what I hope to do.
Hey, you can do it man. I have a psychosis and can very much relate to what you say. It's 100% possible to achieve what you have just said! I know it for sure

I've been struggling with this disorder since I was 22. I'm 26 now and it is extremely difficult and not a joke. I'm thankful that I'm in treatment because the therapists, doctors, and advocates are all helping me.
What are some of the challenges you face? I was diagnosed with psychosis in 2017 and took meditation for about a year. I felt much better after about a year and I began working so I stopped the medication because I felt some of the side effects affected me from performing my best at work. I do from time to time have lapses in focus and feel disoriented mentally. I’m worried that I relapse since I’m naturally high risk since I have many relatives who suffer mental issues on both sides of my family.
Hi, I was also diagnosed a Shizophrenic, but I feel like we have the power to let these things not control our lives. Not as much every day but we can try our hardest to convince ourself that what ever bad feeling we are having about something we can change the pattern of thought to make it go away. I had the symptom where I thought the radio, TV and most social media were stalking, talking and looking in my head but I fought through it. I still have bad thoughts but with love we can change alot.
S3dG3i3, in fact, I’d say I’m completely over this. Sure I still get thoughts, but they hardly ever cause me anxiety for over a second or too. My anxiety was having schizophrenia lol.
Hope Shines, So after this I kinda went into a state of deep depression for constantly being in fear of losing my mind, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t focus in school. My grades dropped severely, and all I can ever think about was me having schizophrenia, and me obsessing over it. I’d constantly, think about it, and tell myself I’m okay. But it only made it worse. Nobody else could tell there was anything wrong with me though, but in my head it was a constant battle with myself. So I began researching and eventually learned it was something called “Pure-OCD” and I also learned you can completely over come this if you’re determined enough too. So I learned techniques to help improve my mental health, and to not feed into the anxiety. And what helped me the most is actually a simple answer.
As someone who has been dealing with psychosis since my late teens, I can say that not all symptoms are the same for everyone. For example, one person who may have auditory hallucinations may not have visual hallucinations and vice versa. There are also different severity levels of the condition (e.g. very mild to severe) and can be treated differently. It is a horrible illness to have and more awareness needs to be made.
It’s really hard to live in society with schizophrenia, no one will understand what goes on in my mind but thank you for trying to explain and help others like me.❤️👽❤️
Hallucinations and dreams are the same thing, your unconscious thoughts being interpreted through your sensory cortices. The difference is when there's 'leakage', the dreaming continues when you're awake. We need our unconscious to affect our interpretations of things we see when we're awake so that we can note similarities of experiences, but when 'affect' becomes 'overwhelm' you're hallucinating.
I watched a documentary in it it says that the brain when dreaming is similar to psychosis and that when you dream it’s a mini psychosis so what your saying makes sense from that angle
I was diagnosed. Day's that led up to the realization I had it really were torture. Thrown into an asylum but survived and now living my life. It's something else when you have auditory hallucinations.
My dad is a recovered coke addict. He gets voices or feelings that he is being watched but he can brush them off. Sometimes i worry that he is going to come back to it and snap.
I went on too develop psychotic features , and I agree with that .. if you're talking about horrific debilitating anxiety that makes people become recluses
I'm not schizophrenic, but I do go through psychotic episodes regularly due to my level of mania from bipolar 1 and due to my schizoid personality disorder. I would see and hear things that I believed were spirits coming to assault me because I was a burden that caused them to stay in purgatory.
Not Schizophrenic but got BPD which means along with many things I get psychosis sometimes and the voices, intrusive thoughts, delusions and hallucinations can range from weird but banal to terrifying. Once at work I was painting the art galleries (I’m a museum buildings worker) and I kept getting a woman in period clothing harassing me saying that I’m damaging her master’s home but I told her that I’m only painting, must’ve been weird to those around me but at the time I thought she was real.
I have OCD and tourette's and I've been in 4 different mental hospitals, 2 long stays in juvenile hall, and 7 months in a probation run boys camp. I keep attempting suicide and I have no idea why I hurt myself. I've hung myself while sitting down and totally passed out and if it wasn't for my grandmother cutting the rope i wouldn't be typing this comment. I feel lost and isolated in my head. But you have a chance, use it wisely. Life is unbearable from my perspective
I'm here if you need to talk... I also suffer from OCD and GAD, and I felt in a hole but I've finally started to improve and get to know myself better, so if u wanna talk I'm here, don't give up!

Thank you for making this video For someone professionally diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder this video sums up some of the things I see or how they work. This video will teach people about Schizophrenia.
One of the conditions that can lead to misdiagnosis with schizophrenia that you failed to mention is autism. I have Asperger's syndrome, something I learned three years ago after having been followed for more than forty years by a misdiagnosis of schizophrenia. Yes, I have sensory problems, yes, I'm nobody's social butterfly, but the only time I've ever hallucinated was when I had a high fever as a little girl. I might see the world a bit differently from most people, but I now perceive it as a gift. There's a distinct danger in the way that far too many people want to paste a psychiatric label on some things that they cannot categorize as neatly as they'd like. It cost me the prime of my life.
If you don’t mind me asking did you experience delusions? If you didn’t experience hallucinations or delusions than whoever diagnosed you with schizophrenia is extremely incompetent.
Hello! Im 13 and got diagnosed with skizophrenia at age 12, but I've had it since i was little, i hallucinate and hear voices often, and have periods in my life where i believe that im the main character in a movie or game, i would also often talk to the "audience" like they where there, by the way if anybody has any questions about my skizophrenia feel free to ask!
My best friend has schizophrenia, she is not even 20 yet...she had many other illnesses and her home life is poor. The things she sees tend to be violent or with a dark mood. She taught herself to cope by drawing the things she saw, gave the things personalities, even made friends with them in order to not feel afraid. She is very brave and is fighting hard to cope. Most people have given up on trying to be friends because they aren't able to understand what she's going through and tell her to "Get over it they aren't real". Her parents are very religious and no longer take her to therapy, since she is still a minor she can't do anything. Thank you for spreading awareness about this, to help people understand this condition.

She always let my older brother stay with her (that also has schizophrenia) and they get into arguments and fights. So much, that the police know about their symptoms. She kicks him out, he goes to jail, when he gets back out. She let him right back in again. So tiring man, dealing with them over the years. Has cause me to have depression.
Very sad. I had episodes when I was 18 about 3 months after my birthday. But it wasn't schizophrenia. It was caused by medication. I have an amazing doctor who listened, understood, and took action immediately. I was not diagnosed but I think I have a little bit of understanding of it. But for all of you with it. I am so truly sorry, it absolutely breaks my heart to see you going though that. My best friends mom had it and she ended up so bad that she didn't even recognize her own son. He got kicked out. Soon after she killed herself with a knife. It's very heart breaking to me if you have this illness. I'm very sorry if you do.
I don't have schizophrenia but I had a thing called hypnopompic hallucination (hallucinate after you wake up) and it was terrifying seeing shades of "people" outside my window and hearing voices about them trying to break in my house. I actually almost called the police but noticed I was hallucinating when a few things looked off to me. I still held 911 in my hand the whole night in case :(
There can be positive voices, but mostly they are negative. They can get worse as you get older and it can be more difficult to brush them off as the years go on. I have it. Therapy and medication is the best route to go, believe me. At 26, I had a constant hallucination of an evil woman telling me to crash the car and that was last year. I ignored the hallucination, but it was distracting and dangerous
I suffered an episode of depression psychosis, where I started seeing and hearing a big humanoid being. It mostly gave me advice. But problem was, if I didn't listen to it it tended to get angry, which prompted me to get help.
The idea that this can just occur scares me. My aunt had some form of psychosis, she would frequently lash out against my family members and one day, she just left the family. We have no idea where she went or what she's doing now. The irony is that she studied psychology
Schizophrenia runs in my family. My great grandmother and great aunt (her daughter) both have it. My grandmother and mother don't have it but my sister and I deal with depression and have both attempted suicide and have self harmed at different parts of our lives. I'm 24 and I often worry about me going to a head doctor because i'm afraid they will diagnose me as schizophrenic. I don't hallucinate but I often have conversations with myself and my emotions can become really overwhelming to handle so I have frequent panick/anxiety attacks. I appreciate this video for not dehumanizing that population and I feel a little bit better about it
My dad was paranoid schizophrenic. He was nasty at times and it was hard to b around him and the things he would say were heartbreaking. He had a calmer side too and he would call me when he was drinking and call me baby or he said he knew I would make him feel better. It was a difficult life for sure.
I have a son who is 15 years old who struggles with this mental illness.Everyday is a struggle for him, but with God first and daily prayers he is keeping him alive. I do not wish this illness on no one because he is trapped in his own mind daily.
I love how this is broke down completely to explain the whole entire dilemma of this that everyone is suffering with secretly deep down or without even knowing or ever knowing.😄😋
I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at about 21. I was diagnosed with OCD before that. I take medications twice a day. I used to think undercover cops were after me. Now my symptoms are lesser. I also take only one shower every 7-14 days.
I’ve always been fascinated by schizophrenia, I’ve even dove down and tried to replicate those unique hallucinations with weird drugs, ( drugs that make you have nasty and scary hallucinations and voices) and yet I’ve only gotten a taste of what these people are going through
My dad began a pretty bad psychotic break in 2015 and is finally taking his medication as of last year. He isn’t the same but I’m happy he’s able to live a somewhat normal life now.

Vincent Van Gogh didn't cut off his whole ear because of an argument. He liked a girl whose ear was misformed, so to make her feel less alone he cut off a part of his ear and sent it to her to show his empathy. He was really kind, although it was a weird action.
I started showing numerous symptoms of schizophrenia after a traumatic series of events in my early and mid 20s. They are mild, and I am aware that most of the time when I am perceiving or thinking of something wrong. However... That wrongness can be overwhelming at times... I did discover that certain foods can help suppress the symptoms, such as dark chocolate. Whereas fish seems to amplify the symptoms. I fear, one day, that I will become the old homeless man that screams and yells and hits himself while gathering cans...
I actually looked back in time and went through memories of my sister becoming wierd and showing more and more of those symptomes. Nobody suspected anything till she had a psychotic epizode. That illnes is terrible and going through all of the memories of it taking her away I cried.
My cousin had his 3rd episode yesterday but I still don’t know if he’s barely developing schizophrenia or if it’s bad depression One thing is that he knows he’s having an episode but he obviously doesn’t know he hallucinates and becomes delusional he also says he feels itchy and that someone is spying on him but one is that he still loves to play sports and hasn’t lost interest so I’m lost
There’s a form of depression that leads to psychosis. I was in the same position. I thought I might have been schizophrenic. I did some research and found out that there is a form of depression that shares signs of psychosis and can be confused with schizophrenia. Look it up. I was relieved when I found this out. I am on medication now and I am better. I am glad it was depression induced and not anything else.
Hi, I'm not diagnosed, but I had the same experience as you, I thought that someone on youtube with a channel named FBI was spying on me so, I fight with him a lot, just because I watched a video saying about fbi stuff and after that I start to overthink ☹☹
I have a friend who experiences terrifying hallucinations (organs, gore, bugs, maggots, disgusting things basically) when she's off of her medication. She knows that they're not real but is mortified, etc. There was a time in her life where she fell into a deep state of depression and actually lashed out at me for trying to help her. People nowadays think that it's cool to hallucinate. Shame.
My aunt has it and I ve been having suttle signs of hallucinations for 3 months now, it's mostly barely noticeable most of the time but I had a couple of vivid times where I heard my name or saw 2 shadow men beside my bed looking me in the eye and didn't dissappear until I turned my head away and turned back I'm scared and I ve made it a point to make the most of my life rn since my risk of having it in the future is increasing every time I hear smth and it happens and average of once to twice in a stressful week .
Usually on the tv when a person has to make a choice they show an angel and demon who try to influence the person. I guess it shows having a conscience. Is that normal?
I've been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I'm on 3 different meds and my issues have greatly decreased. All I can say is, it ain't no joke. Visual and audible hallucinations nearly drove me off the edge. Not to mention emotional turmoil. If you need help, get it. It can get better.

Very true. I have Schizophrenia, but I've never had the kind where I thought that aliens were communicating with me or used technology on me to hear antennas or whatever. Or that I have powers and can see through walls. There are people like that. My hallucinations happen during bad episodes and they tend to be dead females. One woman that has Schizophrenia says that her hallucinations are of Pennywise and giant spiders, so it all varies from person to person and there's different stages too
My last relationship ended because my ex hid from me that he was schizophrenic and wasn’t taking his meds. He tried to commit suicide which gave him permanent brain damage and his personality change was just unbearable for me. If people understood schizophrenia better then people diagnosed with it wouldn’t be so afraid to tell people they have it. If i knew my ex had it I could have made sure he took his meds and things might have gone a lot better

I don't have schizophrenia but I was going to say the same thing.
@Chaka Why so rude?
Chaka your whole comment smells🤢
That was a dumb thing to point out
Chaka there are a lot of people still under the impression that they are the same disorders. it’s important to point these things out because these illnesses are highly stigmatized and it’s not arrogant to point out when something meant to be informative is damaging.

Hi, I was also diagnosed a Shizophrenic, but I feel like we have the power to let these things not control our lives. Not as much every day but we can try our hardest to convince ourself that what ever bad feeling we are having about something we can change the pattern of thought to make it go away. Just look up mark freeman. And take his advice extremely serious. If you’re determined enough you’ll overcome it. I guarantee it
@@Ace-ps8mw Can you describe your experience? I have OCD too :)
Everyone who has this, mad respect to all of you. Keep strong warriors

Wow this is a different opinion. I sometimes wish my hallucinations were a dream. It just seems so real.
Thanks for your input doc. Pretty sure it's worse than just dreams being pushed in real life

I have a psychology exam in about 8 hours from now and this is definitely coming out. Thanks for explaining it to me nonetheless!

Vincent Van Gogh didn't cut off his whole ear because of an argument. He liked a girl whose ear was misformed, so to make her feel less alone he cut off a part of his ear and sent it to her to show his empathy. He was really kind, although it was a weird action.
It's also speculated that he was shot by children and took the fault which the evidence seems more likely than him shooting himself.

One thing is that he knows he’s having an episode but he obviously doesn’t know he hallucinates and becomes delusional he also says he feels itchy and that someone is spying on him but one is that he still loves to play sports and hasn’t lost interest so I’m lost
Saying people spying on him sounds like paranoid schizophrenia. That is a common symptom.
