Ford is going to sell their EVs direct to Customer, just like Tesla. It’s the only way that will work and they know it. It’s also why the EV business had to split from the ICE business.

Think only Tesla has the data and the right approach. Waymo and others play around with algorithms while Tesla copies the best human drivers and has the most data worldwide that followers from China or Europe will not have soon enough. Tesla elegantly solved the laws of robotics issue and ethical questions and quite no one understands that, as nobody is discussing the point openly. Think neither NVIDIA will be a leader but only tier one supplier not having the total integration of Tesla. All others today have Level 2 to 3 at best installed so until the fleet will be fully FSD it takes more than 10 years. Tesla already has FSD but limited to level 2 by lawmakers and that’s the difference!😎🤔

FYI ... Ford makes a nice EV truck! I'm a Tesla investor and fanboy who was waiting on his Cybertruck, not really considering much else. Then two weeks ago, I watched Tom M's video demo of the Tesla-Ford NACS adapter. That video opened my eyes, then I seriously started researching the Lightning. It soon became clear that a Lightning with topper would fit my needs better than the Cybertruck, both sooner and cheaper. A couple days later, I noticed a killer-deal on a used 2023 Lariat F150 Lightning with topper, just two miles from my house. Seemed too good to be true, but one test drive was all it took ... bought it on the spot. Only cost me $16K after trading my 2019 Silverado ... way way cheaper than the $80K Cybertruck I was waiting on. Although Cybertruck is great, the F150 Lightning is now worth consideration.

We need to talk about how good fsd 12.3 is. Just started using it yesterday and holy crap is it huge improvement over the beta 11 ive been using for the last year
12.3 is an amazing improvement. Yesterday I drove a 20 mile route including highway miles, urban traffic, and suburban neighborhood with no mistakes or interventions.
Had FSD 12.3 for a week 3/15/24 many intervention free drives. Reads other drivers intentions! Had a intervention today when sharp 6 ft metal pieces that fell of 18 wheel truck I had to take over to not damage tires on my Y performance with FSDBeta 12.3. overall human level driving. As a massive Tesla bull we have to also keep an eye on nvidia’s av efforts. They have the hardware, the compute, end to end Ai, and also have announce are working with byd and merc. Data will come together quick for them over the next couple years so we need to keep an eye on their progress over that time so we are not blind sided.
I'm not concerned at Nvidia and their partners personally. They are 10 years behind. BYD hasn't had cameras on cars collecting data that I'm away of and Mercedes has only a limited number that have.
Nvidia could make something of this but the lack of vertical integration with the manufacturer will be a big disadvantage. However, it could slow down Tesla sales of FSD with other manufacturers as Tesla will have the same integration issues Nvidia has.

Just got FSD Beta 12.3 today. Drove it on my 40 mile test loop after sunset. Many v11 problem areas now fixed and much smoother on turns, breaking, acceleration.. It did make a couple lane change errors e.g. getting into right turn lane instead of staying in the through lane but these could be map issues. In any case, easily corrected. Great job by Tesla FSD team.
Ford shutdown Argo in 2022 and I would guess they did that because they saw Tesla was farther ahead. If so I would expect Farley will license a self-driving product from someone but since Tesla could also help them on the EV design and manufacturing side and with bots I think a strategic partnership with Tesla makes the most sense. It should also be easier for Ford to carry it out since Farley already made the bold move to create a separate EV division. Pretty much avoids the internal org politics that would try to sink the plan.
Given what happened with GM and Cruise I expect they will partner with someone for autonomy too but I expect ego will keep them from going with Tesla. All just guess-work but Ford needs to decide soon since they are designing a new EV now and profit sharing on FSD will be a game changer for selling EVs into the low price car market. Ford may have decided already but are keeping it quiet after other companies jumped on NACS after Ford announced.

Next huge Pop in stock price will be when ford announces they are licensing FSD and subsequently all other manufacturers have to follow to remain relevant. Same thing that happened with NACS
Depends a lot on how good NVIDIA is with their efforts. BYD and a lot of other manufacturers are installing NVIDIA hardware in their new models. It is a race and if there are several companies offering a solution, it is good, even if I would prefer Tesla to have the biggest part of that market 🙂
Clues that this is going to happen will probably be indicated by the similar location of cameras on the OEM’s vehicles compared to Teslas camera locations.

There's a physical mock-up of the new "Ford" truck somewhere with Tesla-like camera modules, space allowed for HW4 (5?) computing, and 48v wiring, plus a "vehicle model" with those parameters in the FSD test environment running simulations.
I believe Ford will be the first car company to license FSD from Tesla.

Eventually insurance companies will require you to use self driving. When it becomes clear that FSD is safer that a human driver. Insurance companies are data driven and they will do what it takes to reduce their liabilities. They did it with seat belts, they will do it with FSD.
It was the Department of Transportation, not insurance companies, that forced manufacturers to install seat belts. Why would insurance companies require FSD? They would simply charge a higher premium if you don't have it. They'll make money either way.
I think Ford and Rivian will be the first 2 licensers of FSD because they don't have dumb leaders.
Rivian wont survive long enough for that to be a reality.. They simply wont have the money for the license
“If you understand that Tesla is mission driven you can predict their actions” and therefore predict the future of the company. This is why the stock is a must buy and hold. The analysts have never experienced this before so they can’t believe it.

I hope Tesla is making it an unnegotiable condition, that FSD software is only allowed to be installed on fully electric vehicles. That way the maximal effect on getting as many ICE cars off the road as possible is realized (maximum percentage of miles being driven fully electric).

Is the next gen Ford EV platform basically a licensed tesla next gen platform with a Ford body / design? Makes enormous sense for both companies. Supports Teslas mission and will give Ford a tremendous advantage versus legacy competition. I think this is much more likely then Ford developing it all from scratch themselves, even with a Tesla model Y project manager as the lead...... BTW Tesla model Y was a rebodied model 3..... He can repeat that success with Ford skunkworks project...

I am working in higher management in big industry. It is mind blowing insane how slow big classic companies are. In admitting changing market conditions, in recognizing the real impact of disruptive technology, or business models, in decision making, in contract negotiations, even in execution. Such a contract would have been negotiated normally for 6 month+ in some cases even 1 year. But certainly never in 2 weeks. Tesla is awesome in many regards!

Licensing of FSD is great and all, but I'd really like to see Tesla stand this up as a robotaxi network themselves and I'd way rather them keep this to themselves and crush everyone else.
This is not a zero sum game. Every dollar Ford makes from their full self driving and or Robo taxis does not take those dollars from Tesla. It actually adds to it because Tesla can only make so many cars. Certain people won’t buy Teslas certain people are very brand loyal to Ford. It only expands Teslas total addressable market.
Licensing is a massive profit margin approach, much more so than selling cars…if Tesla licenses FSD to all the major automakers it will print so much money it’ll be unimaginable!

Good news. Now I really hope Ford and Farley get their act together quickly and demo the respect and seriousness of Elon to the mission. Step 1 would be to update the F-150 and e-SUV (and ALL follow-on vehicles) to relocate the charge port to the Driver-side rear! 90% of all RELIABLE Charge Stations currently use that format.
It is simple respect for the industry standard, AND of course most customer focused ... i.e. NOT cheapest to install in the vehicle without interest in what is best for customer.
It "literally" takes me a net time of 6 seconds to charge my Model Y.
Can’t see it working out for Ford or anyone else. No one can compete with Tesla already, now they’d be buying the hardware and software from Tesla and splitting the revenue of FSD with Tesla. Tesla immediately then has an even bigger vehicle price advantage they can use to undercut any automaker that adopts FSD. Also if Tesla licenses FSD out they can’t very well then start adjusting the price of FSD to their own vehicle customers as they see fit anymore. Would require extremely generous almost non profit terms from Tesla and they’d end up putting them selves in a much larger liability frame when things go wrong. Just not workable I reckon.

Ford lost billions once Lightning buyers realized they couldn't reliably recharge their trucks going out of town on road trips without the anxiety of hit or miss charging, but adapting Tesla's NACS charging network will make it easier for all future Ford EV buyers. And if Ford can bring their software and hardware up to tesla standards for future fsd integration Ford will remain viable in 5, 10 years
Got to say, I really respect Jim Farley, he actually loves to company, can see the writing on the wall and is doing everything he can to save it. Honestly felt bad for him when that strike happened.. As he said, if I give the union everything they are asking for, Ford goes broke.
I hope Farley will stay at Ford long enough to save as much as possible from the company. Too bad VW wasn't smart enough to keep Diess, who was the first legacy OEM CEO to act rationally in the EV race.
nobody pays 200 a month for FSD ... most people will drive rather themselves .... i would pay max 50 Dollars a month

Nice video SMR. This is probably the most controversial video I've seen you publish. Why??? How does FORD integrate Tesla software into their vehicles for FSD. You only mention cameras...but those cameras must feed their input into a computer system that can analyze that input and then execute proper driving characteristics from those camera inputs. This can only happen if FORD and others adopt not only the software but the hardware systems that the software is integrated with. Without total integration it's a cheap party trick that will fail. Hope they will go all in.
If they license FSD they'll also need to buy Tesla's FSD chip and associated hardware ecosystem.
(and so will GM and Chrysler (not to mention chinese and korean japanese and european brands..)
I add, Ford line future be sold and controlled by Tesla. Has the "ford Line" been trademarked yet?, I own this. Henry would be proud to join this leader!
