. . . . . . . . ..... also, did you ever hear of filtered/cleaned used oil changes ?? Where they empty your oil from your car and filter and clean it and treat it with a chemical and they put it back into your motor ?? Is this a scam ?
I know two people who had their oil change. One had put too much oil. The other didn't put the oil plug back in. Both got their engine replaced by Walmart
I worked at a Jiffy Lube in Charlotte as a manager in training. If a 240Z came in they would not change the filter. I asked the Manager he said it to hard. I left the next day.
Brake Check and Pep Boys is like that. Especially Pep Boys. There is so much pressure from above to get them in and out. One of the big things they'd do is sell them brakes when honestly they didn't even need em and they had other bigger issues. Y? B/c brakes can get them in and out in a couple hrs AND high profit margin. When ever they'd resurface the rotors, they wouldn't even look if its far enough from min. Spec
They didn't change the oil filter cartridge on my friends BMW either, it was on top, easy. I went to change it and the filter paper crumbled into pieces it had beens years obviously! 😬
Changing the oil in your own car is straight forward..infact the hardest part is jacking the car up or raising it up on ramps, plus if you do it yourself you will double check everything you do simply because it's your vehicle.
@@omardevonlittle3817All of the nationally known auto parts chains accept used motor oil. Walmart accepts used motor oil and they even dump it for you and throw away the container. Most municipal landfills accept used vehicle fluids so nothing has to be done illegally.
I never had a problem with them on an oil change, but they did mess up on a tire change and ended up putting an old worn out tire back on the car. I took it back and made them straighten things out. They actually were tossing one of my brand new tires. My biggest complaint with their Tire and Lube Express, was they should take Express out of the name, and I said that to the customer service lady on the phone. They asked!
I used to use a popular rapid lube place for my Camry. After using them for years, I took it to a mechanic for another issue and asked him to do the oil change as well. I was just watching him and he took out the filter cartridge. It was solid. It had not been changed for years. Fortunately, we caught it before major damage and I drove that Camry another 150,000 miles, 250,000 miles plus and it was still tight. Now I always use a mechanic I trust.
Exactly why I do it myself. Plus, I can change my own oil for less than $30, so I save $50 every time and it takes less than a half hour. I think of it as making $100 an hour.
I've been a mechanic with ASE certificate for 40 years. I was a store manager for a Penzoil 23 years ago. We had 0 comebacks for when I ran the place. I only hired mechanics and very mechanically inclined and I paid them very well and had a great environment for my employees. We were honest to our customers and they loved us! Love your shows Scotty, been watching since you were on TV!
What was the price range charged at the Penz store for oil changes? Scotty charges $150 an hour. I don’t know many ASE certs who work at quick lube shops that run between $30 & $70 for an oil change when the national average for ASE certified mechanics runs closer to $99-$119/hr.
I found a local mechanic very honest. But recently some stupid mistakes. For example, they left the caps off of the bumper of my wife’s smart car after they removed it.
I really enjoy Scotty's videos, but he constantly advises you to change your own oil. I used to do that, but now, for me it's unrealistic. I had to sell my home as a consequence of my divorce, and now live in a rental apartment. So I have no place to either change oil myself, or store the oil change equipment. And, there is no place to recycle the used oil. K-mart used to allow you to do that, but the local store (as mostly all others) closed. Garages at one time were required to take used oil, but I don't know if that's true now.
Don't worry guys, I talked to the Manager of the store and he moved the tech back to the Toy Dept. where he came from, and will replace him with Willy, the Team Lead at the pet food aisle.
The only reason they moved the dude from the Toys department to Auto Service is that he could not assemble the kiddie bikes. They figured he'd have better luck changing oil. "What could he do wrong?"
It's that way in a lot of places. We had a section in engineering, where the ones that had messed up in some way got sent to work on small projects that upper management didn't care about that much or maybe didn't understand. I like a poster I saw one time in a maintenance shop. Two chimpanzees one with his arm around the others shoulder saying since you're too stupid to do anything else we're making you the supervisor. Please don't touch any tools or equipment.
After working at Walmart (not as a mechanic) I can confidently say, don't bring your car there. Literally, you will leave out with a problem you didn't have. Everytime. I have no idea how they do it, but it's essentially just random people on the street fixing cars.
I had a dealership tell me I needed new brakes 2 weeks after having new brakes put on. Never went back and contacted management. I take my Prius to a guy who I watch him change it and take my oil and filter with me. Scotty you are so much fun to watch, I may just change my own oil. I have a tractor that needs an oil change on occasion too…
Wife just had her oil changed at Jiffy - $110 for full synthetic. The check oil light came on by the time she made it home (2 miles), and there's a puddle of oil under the car after sitting all night. They're all bad. This is why I always change the oil myself, but I'm out of town for a while.
I worked at the Walmart quicklube while in college for mechanical engineering. The other 3 guys that worked there evenings and weekends were also college students and we were all car guys. We never had an issue. So you should say SOME of the places are bad, not all. Some have decently smart people that know what they're doing. We did oil changes and tires, repairs, replacements, rotations etc.
I tell you from personal experience. Not all Walmart have smart guys like yours. My friend went in to get an oil change. They drained the transmission fluid then over filled the engine oil. The engine was smoking. Now Walmart have to pay for damages.
Maybe things have changed. In college I worked for Sears doing minor things on cars. Oil and battery changes, points and plugs, shocks, tires. Never had any problems doing that. Now most cars do not need much and it is hard to find the engine under all the the shrouds. Did lots of work on my own car. They did have some mechanics that did some of the more demanding work and we could always ask them if we were not sure of what we were doing. Really how much education does it take to change the oil and filter on most cars.
That sounds good and props to you. But if you had a 50% of getting shot going outside of your door at home - would many of us take that chance? What about 40%? What about 30%. So the fact that some of the places arent bad doesn't matter. The risk of a damaged engine and the hassle of the place trying to get out of responsibility is not worth it. Again much respect to you and ALL of them should be like you but the fact that this can happen...many of us would be like "why even risk my car for an oil change". We'll just pass and keep it moving.
@derekgardin1512 You are 100% correct. Not everyone at Wal-Mart is incompetent. The posts here, critical of Walmart, neglect to mention the oil changes you get anyplace else are not immune to hiring morons, or to ripping you off. Find a place that's good for you and stick with it. Half of American marriages end in divorce, that's a lot worse odds than an oil change at Wal-Mart.
Walmart in Lumberton did that to a friend of my cousin. They didn't put oil in the engine. My brother worked for Kmart service center. They never had a problem.
I took my car to Jiffy Lube once. They forgot to tighten the oil filter. Luckily , I caught it in time. At the local Wally Mart, I never see the same people in the auto area twice.
I worked at jiffy Lube and the mangers had us faking tire rotations, and lie about the type of oil we put in when the one they wanted was out of stock.
I always change the oil and replace the filter in my dad's van and my truck. I drive the front wheels up on a ramps. Makes it easy to get to the filter and put the oil pan under the crankcase.
@@CobraR1993 I never heard of ramps collapsing. Jack stands are probably the safest but they must also be made sure the paw is engaged with the teeth of the support arm. I had a jack stand suddenly let go because the paw wasn't fully engaged. So after that I always make sure by slamming my hand against the release lever to be sure it is fully engaged before I would put any load on it.
I've got tires and oil changes from my local Walmart for years and haven't had a problem yet but yes I have heard horror storries and maybe I have just been lucky so far. You can have these mistakes happen anywhere, even dealerships. Same said Walmart had botched a few jobs but Walmart paid for all the repairs. I always check my car before driving off to make sure it was done right.
in about 2003, my wife had her oil changed at a local quick change oil business, the kids left the drain plug loose and it fell out on the way home. Engine seized up; it was a throw away car anyway. To replace the POS, we bought a '96 Impala SS , which we still own and drive today. I conduct ALL of the maintenance myself. 20+ yrs. as a mechanic and performance engine builder, no one else works on our vehicles.
My niece had exactly the same experience at Walmart. They failed to actually put heavy oil in the engine and it seized just as she left the parking lot. They did pay to put a new crate engine in. One of the biggest problems is the fact that most high schools no longer have any VOTEC training... No auto shop, No wood shop, No electric shop, etc. Our school systems are failing us in so many ways... Sadly no competent mechanic wants to do the oil changes because most are paid on commission, and there's just no money in it. Of course some places use it as a basis to charge you even more money doing additional work that's not needed. The entire system is just so broken.
Instead of biocthing, you and your niece should learn and do your own oil changes. It is good exercise crawling below cars, you both might lose some weight. Same with rotating tires, etc, etc, etc.
Either cross threaded or over tightened the drain plug until it stripped. Drain pans are usually made of aluminum so they can strip easily if you are not careful.
Back in 2001 , I knew a Shop Owner who had 2 Brand New Subarus in his shop for repairs . It seems an Emplyee at a Walmart had drained all the Front Wheel drive oil out of those AWD Subarus and then thinking he just drained the engine oil , added roughly 5 qts of oil to the motor . This blew out all the gaskets and seals in the motor AND Seized up the Front Wheel Drive ..
My son-in-law had his oil changed at Walmart and they didn’t tighten the oil plug bolt enough and the oil leaked out causing the engine to seize up. They denied taking responsibility for it and he was stuck with replacing the engine himself!
@@Cybersawz He did! The attorney said there was no way of proving it was done at Walmarts since it was over two weeks from when he had the oil changed.
Get ANOTHER attorney Walmart was the last one to do the oil change and they ALWAYS give a receipt for services rendered and time should NOT matter…they NEED to take responsibility for their actions smh
@@ChildofGod3712 Exactly! Quite a coincidence that an engine seizes up after an oil change 2 weeks prior. The oil drain plug was probably loose, and oil drained out slowly until there was no more oil and viola, engine blown.
I’ve worked with a former Walmart store manager. He related a story where the tech put windshield wiper fluid in, not oil, during an oil change!! Needless to say the engine was toast.. true story.
Scotty is one of few millionaires who will be honest about things like "costing a fortune" and "not worth it". Always glad to take advice from people like him.
@@saulhernandez8620 Pay attention. He didn't say nothing about oil change, but other things that they do is. Brakes, Alternators etc....and again he's right. Don't trust Walmart for car repairs.
WMT has thousands of complaints. These go back more than 25 years. The most common issues were loose oil pan bolts or screws and improperly installed filters.
We bought a car from a Dodge dealership, brought it there for an oil change, it was 2 quarts low, and just found out that when the dealership changed the spark plugs 6 years ago, they never changed the back 2 plugs!
Do not fall for the cabin air filter or headlight cleaning scam. Walmart wanted to know if I wanted them to clean my headlights for about 80 dollars. I said no and bought a 10 dollar cleaning kit that worked just fine.
Cabin air filters are the biggest scam out there, used to think they high-tech level replacement till I read my owners manual 😅 and now, every season I refresh on that febreeze smell with a new one....$200 to change something worth $20 🤣
I work as a tech in a Walmart auto center and it’s safe to say that it’s risky, I work with someone who constantly rushes and makes mistakes all the time. I myself am very methodical about what I do, and I’ll be going to college for auto mechanics soon to go on to bigger and better things. I barely even tell anyone that I work on cars at Walmart, because I’m embarrassed due to the amount of imbeciles they will hire and NOT fire.
My dealership used to try to sell me the air filter change special. For only $100 bucks they would charge your engine and cabin air filters. I can buy both filters for around $30.00 and put both of them in just a few minutes. The longest part is getting stuff out of the glove box and putting it back. The $100 at the shop only covered parts and labor. They would tack on a fee for shop supplies, hey! I used a paper towel to wipe my hands on after doing the engine air filter, Then there is the environmental fee. I can throw the old filters in the trash can with the best of them. Dealership has kind of backed off that one
I agree. That cabin filter is probably worse being their than not because it forms a breeding ground for mold. It doesn't improve air quality. The only benefit I can see is that it helps to keep debris out of the evaporator core.
@@jackb3724 That is so true. Management rushes and puts a lot of pressure on the techs to produce resulting in mistakes and accidents. That is why I hate bosses and upper management. It's all about making themselves more money, they don't give a damn for the people that actually have to do the work.
I used to work on the inside of the automotive department, and the guy who ran the outside oil change area... Who drove a scooter to work, put double the oil in a truck because he thought it was a diesel truck, he then spent 10 minutes arguing with the guy who owned the truck if it was or wasn't a diesel
I wouldn’t let Walmart work on my bicycle. I went there for two tires for my trailer and it took about half a day. I complained to them but they didn’t care.
Last straw for me is when I took my vehicle down to get a tire changed. They called me halfway from the house to tell me they forgot to put the air pressure sensor back in the new tire. Walmart can go hump itself. That and jiffy lube stripping my oil plug multiple times. Not expensive but irritating to have to constantly buy replacements. DO YOUR OWN WORK ON YOUR OWN VEHICLE.
Thats why i started doing my own oil changes because I heard some Wal Mart automotive shops just tops off your oil and doesnt even change the filter!! So I would think all other companies would probably do the same
@@SinCitySinner Nice move! Did you put them on blast on social media??? I know it's kind of evil but imagine all the $$$ you're saving future victims! 🤝
back in the 1990s, I sent my wife down to the local "jiffy tub" (about 2 miles away) for an oil change 1 saturday morning. on her way home she saw the temperature go high. I wen tout to look over what the problem was and noticed that they'd forgot to put the drain plug back into the pan. when I called the shop to complain, the manager tells me to "drive back over and they'll take care of it".... wtf? after I read him the riot act, they sent a tech over with the plug and oil, and lucky for them, the car remained reliable for the next 7 years of our ownership.... NEVER again have I used a "discount" oil change establishment........
Lol ironic I went to Jeffy lube about 3 months ago for oil change corporate vehicle , workers forgot to close the oil cap which cause oil to spill. I spent $20 washing off the oil grease got reimbursed & an apology. It’s was a 2024 Corolla se how can you forget that smh
Wal-Mart almost destroyed the engine in my car. I got an oil change there against solid advice. I figured just 1 cheap oil change from there wouldnt hurt. Wrong!! I lived less than 2 miles from the Walmart and got home after getting an oil change. I went back outside because I forgot my cellphone inside my car. When I came outside there was a trail of oil everywhere from my driveway to the start of my subdivision. All of the oil was literally running out smh. I was able to make it back to the Walmart just in time before the engine blew.
I know a woman who had Walmart put oil in the wrong pipe. Ruined the car and they had to fight like crazy to get them to admit and pay for the new engine. I won't even have them do tires.
I knew a gal had her oil changed at Walmart she left their and drove roughly ten miles down the hwy and told us her oil light was on sure enough no oil but that Honda made it ten miles on the hwy with no oil
Took the car to get oil changed at Walmarts in Ohio and they drained the radiator and put oil in it . Someone caught it and then they had to drained the oil out of it . We were at Walmarts from early morning to afternoon .. And the car still wasnt right after that never went back . Scotty we really enjoy your videos and we have learned from your with tips . Have a great day .
🤣🤣🤣 I know a grown a** man that poured engine coolant into the engine and he thought he was filling up the oil. Vehicle couldn't even drive of a rest stop parking lot
I had to re-install the halogen bulb in my mother's headliggt after a Wal Mart mechanic sent her on her way. It is not just oil changes they are flubbing on.
Walmart does not hire mechanics. No one working there is a real mechanic, they are TLEs (Tire Lube Experts). Mechanics go to school for a min of 6 months, TLEs 2 weeks.
Apprentices go school for a minimum of that time and are still apprentices . There's a 5 year program to become a qualified mechanic in most countries , including trade school and shop work , before being allowed to work unsupervised , on people's vehicles . Furthermore a fireman or senior workman does the final check . @@craigfin3222
It's always a gamble taking it anywhere. My mother had her transmission oil drained and not replaced, and I let corporate know that I would be suing them.
I have Walmart do my oil changes. One of the engines uses 0w20 to 5w20 and the other two use 5w30. I use Mobil 1 and they have to get it off of the shelf. No pumping it in with a hose, where I can see someone not paying attention and putting too much in, or even forgetting to pump the oil in. I also choose which filter to use and I've watched them pour the oil in. I've never had a problem, but it's best to keep an eye on them to make sure that they do what they are supposed to do.
I got a oil change at Walmart in my 2013 ram 2500 Cummins back in 2014 and they didn’t tighten the oil drain plug all the way, luckily I didn’t live far and noticed when I got home from having a huge puddle of oil on my driveway. I’ve never used them since for any kind of vehicle maintenance. They wouldn’t take any accountability for it and wouldn’t give me my money back or even give me the oil to put back in the truck, they told me I should’ve inspected the truck before I left what a joke of a company.
Even if you do have Wal-Mart or other such places (quick-lube stations) they change your oil, be sure to CHECK THE OIL YOURSELF before you leave the parking lot! Checking your oil is EASY and doing so could save your engine!!
It depends on the shop. I've to two friends (brothers) who own five Jiffy Lube franchises. They hire students from the local community college's auto tech program to work in their shops. Big windows looking out on the service bay area so you can see what they are doing. Never had a problem. I take it in rather than do it myself because its only about $5 less when I do it myself vs the cost of them doing it with a discount coupon. And I don't have to get rid of the old oil & filter, plus I hate dealing with those new cartridge filters, total PITA.
It’s not just walmart. I took my 2018 crv to the Honda dealer for an oil change, they advertised synthetic oil changes for x amount of money. Up to 5 quarts. Three times they put 5 quarts in but, it only takes 3.7 quarts. I had to drain 1.3 quarts out to get the dipstick between the lines. I complained the first and second times the third time I checked it there and made them drain it out. Never again.
Oh Boy... I have been going to Walmart for several years! First, I have a 2007 Jaguar XK Convertible In Winter Gold 1 of 97, 56000 miles on the clock! I do car shows with it. Tires and oil changes are done there, and just two days ago I had it done, yep, I checked my oil level yesterday, right on the mark. Not only that but they didn't have a filter for it so they drove to a Parts store and bought one for it! And they carry the right brand of oil for a Jaguar. I've gone to this store for over five years. It's the Midvale store in Salt Lake City, UT So there are great stores around the country, and I can tell you this is one of the great ones! I've also had my wife's car and my daily driver done here and at the store in Taylorville on 5300 South. They go the extra mile, I can tell you a lot more good things they have done when I've been there.
I do all my own maintenance but I do buy tires at Walmart. My local Wally World auto shop manager is a retired GM tech with over 30 years experience and the two old fellas that do tires have been in the tire industry for decades, they work in their old age because they are bored. Four vehicles over a decade of buying tires at Walmart without an issue. There are good and bad shops and employees everywhere not just Walmart. The staff and experience matters.
My neighbor drove 2 miles from the local Walmart after an oil change and before she got into her driveway, the engine threw a connecting rod out the oil pan. Walmart said she couldn’t prove that there wasn’t oil in the engine to begin with and the engine was just worn out that gave way. Really Walmart! Car was just fine before they got ahold of it.
I stopped going to walmart for oil changes a long time ago. I use a local mom and pop garage near my home. They always do a good job and I don't have to worry that they screwed up.
Walmart does suck for oil changes. Just went to one. They put the fram cor oil filter on even though I requested a better filter and shorted the oil by a quart. So I had to change the filter and top off the oil. Sadly I've seen dealership "mechanics" when I was a service writer that were just as bad.
Back in 2017 I took my brand new F,150 for an oil change and they told k 3 hours to do a oil change and damaged the drain plug. I did end up suing Walmart and they settled
The local Ford dealership ruined my oil drain plug, i didn't realize it til i did the next oil change 5k miles later, i just went to Napa for a new plug
Yep! Same happened here. They clearly don't understand that you need to use the right socket to unscrew the plug. I don't know how that is a difficult job.
Went to Walmart I. SELMA CA years ago. 4 new tires we are on our way home I started hearing a clanking noise coming from the rear. Took the hub cap off oh only 2 of the 5 lug nuts were on the 3 were just laying in the hubcap. Unreal we could have had a bad Wreck. I couldn't believe it
Same here! I looked back and I can see lug nuts flying off! I told my dad and mom. But the wheel fell off! My mom was in an panic. My dad said relax. My dad got out and walked to an nearby house where our wheel was at. My dad rolled it over and placed it on. From then on, I learned an important lesson to verify whatever mechanic touch!
They do the same to me!! Mercury GM when they tell me is done I CK the oil stick and it was crazy more oil and not the full synthetic that I order. Have a bad moment because the manager said keep saying that that's the oil that I order! So after 15 minutes and the shop manager looks in to it, they accept to do it again! Never go back!!
Just two months ago Walmart changed our oil. Next day, I checked it and sure enough, overfilled! They never drained the first 5 qts! I was hopping mad and it took a lot of anger to get the manager to re-do the job. They didnt care at all! You CAN change oil there but if you do, dont go shopping in the store. Stay right there and watch the whole job. They can so easily drain the oil and then not re-fill, too! We buy Toyota dealer filters for our Avalon and Walmart, and I suspect other places, gives you a hard time about "user-supplied parts causing massive problems in the engine..." So should people let the dealers do oil changes, despite the high cost? Im old now and cant easily do my own work anymore.
A friend of mine once took his car to Jiffy Lube for an oil change on his Caddy and instead of putting in engine oil they poured in gear oil! Lucky for him he realized something was wrong and had the gear oil removed and engine oil was added. I have been taking my 04 Honda to the Honda dealer where I purchased it.
It's best to get a few quotes before you need work done, I found the dealership changed my Subaru sparkplugs for at least 30% cheaper than independent mechanics 🤷
Even dealerships have done it. Forget to put oil in the vehicle. Put the wrong grade of oil in the vehicle. Charge you for full synthetic and put in conventional. Do you own oil changes if you can.
I worked at that Walmart 10 years ago. 😳. It's in the Pyramid Village Shopping Center. The turnover rate was RIDICULOUSLY high. HR doesn't even look at the applications. They just hire ANYONE, for ANY department.
Guy I worked with at Walmart got transferred from bike assembly to the quick lube. He was there 2 weeks and forgot to put oil in a car and the plug back in. Guys car got about a mile. They fired him on the spot. Walmart had to buy the guy a new engine plus some more.
Scotty's on point too much oil and complacent didn't check the oil level blown oil pump on 4.0L explorer you have to rebuild the engine just to replace the oil pump. Good engine but it only takes overfill oil to blow out the pump and your engine will sound like a deisel ruined. Do it yourself.
I have never allowed anyone to change my engine oil on any of my vehicles in the 53 years of driving!!! But I had to buy a handicapped van for my wife and it sits so low that even on ramps I can’t get under it so off to Valvoline oil change all went well 2nd time the new crew looked like they were a head banger band tried to sell me everything but oil pulled my air filter showed it to me ( it was as clean as the day it was made) and said I needed a new one it crammed it back in couldn’t get the cover to go back on , never again I guess I’m going to have to buy a lift to keep idiots away from my vehicles.
You are 100% correct Scotty. I took my car to Jiffy Lube for oil change the specially there is one big guy shady as hell plus also recommending all the unnecessary staff to change but above all they broke my oil filter cap. And denied never apologized whatsoever
They only work when they want to. They don't like engines that use 5 quarts. They only fill to full mark on the dipstick with a dry empty oil filter. Check you dipstick after they done and park it. It's gonna be 1/2 quart low. Check the oil pan plug. Might not be there, or stripped. Wally world oil change mechanics are not very bright.
OMG my nearby Walmart's auto center has had SO MANY complaints. It boggles me that they're still allowed to operate. Reverse polarity on battery changes, forgot to put oil in or forgot to put drain plug back in, likewise with coolant, wheels falling off after tire change, no braking after brake job, . . . it's so many stupid things that shouldn't even happen in the first place
Every time I used Walmart when I was young and dumb, they messed something up. I learned the hard way to find men who were established in the area I lived and asked them where to go (I have moved around a lot). Word of mouth goes a long way. I do my own oil changes now.
I’ve gone there twice in my life . Both times I’ve checked the oil my self after they did it right there in the parking lot . The places I’ve learned that are horrible is like valvoline and others . As you said any one off the streets . Then the manger is telling them they aren’t working fast enough and they “ forget to do things
Scotty is right about Walmart. they also try to pull the switch a ru ,on you you may say I want Mobile one in you vehicle and they put in their brand Super Tech.
I change my own oil. I do most of the work on my car. That way I know it is done properly. But then again. I own cars that never need work done except for regular maintenance.
I’ve had a couple of oil changes done at my local Walmart. Also I purchased 2 sets of tires there. Only problem was that they put the wrong tires on my truck, so they had to change them.
I typically use valvoline service center I bring my OWN oil with my marked Jug. I bring my own MARKED dated oil filter. My oil is EVACUATED out in front of me. My old MARKED and dated filter is shown to me. I only give them 5.1 quarts. Im shown my dipstick BEFORE and AFTER startup. My car MY rules PS if you cannot WATCH what's being done go some where else.
I change the oil on my truck myself, because, I don't need a lift. My other car is too low to the ground so I have my mechanic do it & supply my own filter and oil.
I had something similar happen at a BMW dealership here in the Dallas, TX area. The kid changing my oil left the old seal from the oil filter in place. BMW had picked up my car and drove it to their dealership for the service, then returned it to me. My new BMW was driven 35 miles through heavy DFW traffic leaking like a sieve. The engine lost over 3 quarts of oil during the trip. I attempted to talk with the Service Director, but he couldn't be bothered with talking to me until the next morning. I won't ever buy from their dealership again. Incredibly low standards.
Why, I am still not sure, but I started taking my vehicle to WM to have oile changes. Then one day, shortly after an oil change I caught an oil pressure warning and shut it down. No oil and not because they didn't put any in but because they stripped my pan's drain port ! I saw red RTV on the threads and little shards of PTFE pumbers tape. I wondered why the oil change took 3 1/2 hours. They must've tried to get it to set up! I couldn't even get WM to admit they did it and they refused to do anything at all. I was on my own for the repairs. It was an easy lesson to learn...WM sucks!
I've bought several cars from people who had their cars oil changed by Walmart .and replaced the engines one of them a 2000 Camry while I still have today made bank in doing so .mostly they either stripped the drain plugs or forgot to tighten the plugs now I know you don't like wrecking yard engines but I don't mind but I make sure the engines are good before I install them. And I have good resources

I worked 10 years at walmart . They could have been the guy from bakery changing your oil . Never get a oil change or anything's for your car there
I worked at a Jiffy Lube in Charlotte as a manager in training.

Always demand to see the used oil filter if you get an oil change...Or just watch em with camera

Now I always use a mechanic I trust.
probably why mine fried up
Exactly why I do it myself.
Wait, what? Scotty was on TV?! That'd be kind of disappointing, I thought he was this random mechanic who started doing RUclips
@@ShaferHart dont be a hipster. scotty is a good dude lol
🤣🤣🤣
I have a tractor that needs an oil change on occasion too…
Good job, take care of that Prius & it will take care of you...
Wife just had her oil changed at Jiffy - $110 for full synthetic. The check oil light came on by the time she made it home (2 miles), and there's a puddle of oil under the car after sitting all night. They're all bad. This is why I always change the oil myself, but I'm out of town for a while.
Considering how many people watch Scotty’s videos, Walmart should be concerned
Do true! ❤

Walmart the current US administration 😂😂😂
"This auto shop is so bad, they should be scared!"
"This auto shop is so bad, I'm pissed!"
Thats why i change my own oil. Used to work at an oil change shop back in highschool. You wouldn't believe the scams.
Sorry about your engine. Here’s a $50 Wal-Mart gift card.
In college I worked for
Sears doing minor things on cars.
The technicians are way underpaid at these places, so the good ones inevitably move on after a short period of time
That sounds good and props to you.
@derekgardin1512
You are 100% correct.
Not everyone at Wal-Mart is incompetent.
The posts here, critical of Walmart, neglect to mention the oil changes you get anyplace else are not immune to hiring morons, or to ripping you off.

I worked at jiffy Lube and the mangers had us faking tire rotations, and lie about the type of oil we put in when the one they wanted was out of stock.
oh my god. how do you suggest we verify if they

I always change the oil and replace the filter in my dad's van and my truck. I drive the front wheels up on a ramps. Makes it easy to get to the filter and put the oil pan under the crankcase.
I have been working on cars for years. I never use ramps. They can suddenly collapse.
True. It really depends on the person working on the car.
in about 2003, my wife had her oil changed at a local quick change oil business, the kids left the drain plug loose and it fell out on the way home.
Ignorance is a gold mine........
Instead of biocthing, you and your niece should learn and do your own oil changes. It is good exercise crawling below cars, you both might lose some weight. Same with rotating tires, etc, etc, etc.
Man here in Texas all the schools have wood, auto, and welding shops lol
Here where I am our state we used to have 7 tech/trafe schools now we have 2
Budget cuts closed them
Yea they stopped pretty much the year I graduated in 2007 cuz it’s too dangerous. Part of the reason there’s so much work that people can’t do
My first brand new car I took to Jiffy Lube and they cross threaded the plug on the first oil change.
Dealers have the same kids doing oil changes that iffy Lube does!
Either cross threaded or over tightened the drain plug until it stripped. Drain pans are usually made of aluminum so they can strip easily if you are not careful.
I went there to get tires. Walmart. Such a bad experience. I am so glad I eventually walked out.
Walmart Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, also put too much oil in a customer’s car. There were other complaints, as well. Beware!
Holy crap man that’s insane
ROFL 🤣
so, what happened-did they pay for what they did and didn't do?
Yes , The Mechanic said Walmart had to pay for the repairs .
Walmart has deep pockets .
My son-in-law had his oil changed at Walmart and they didn’t tighten the oil plug bolt enough and the oil leaked out causing the engine to seize up. They denied taking responsibility for it and he was stuck with replacing the engine himself!

You just make one bad decision after another.

I change the oil on my service vehicle myself. 2007 Ford E-150 4.6 L 303,000 Mi and running strong!.
They can even leave the drain plug loose.
I appreciate your videos scotty. Very informative. Very interesting.
My local Honda dealership overfilled my Accord by about a quart. Too many young technicians working there. I have deemed them incompetent

So you found the proverbial needle in a haystack.😂
I do all my own maintenance but I do buy tires at Walmart. My local Wally World auto shop manager is a retired GM tech with over 30 years experience and the two old fellas that do tires have been in the tire industry for decades, they work in their old age because they are bored. Four vehicles over a decade of buying tires at Walmart without an issue. There are good and bad shops and employees everywhere not just Walmart. The staff and experience matters.
"The previous announcement was bought and paid for by WalMart"
I think I'll take my chances elsewhere pal...
Same here! I know everyone by name. They are decent folks.
You sued for a drain plug?
@@biometal770 in doing so, they damage others things under my brand new truck.
I couldn't believe it
😂😂😂😂 Ron white comes to mind....... it fell off, it fell off, IT FELL THE FU## OFF!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Dealerships way over charge , would not trust them if my life depended on it.
It's best to get a few quotes before you need work done, I found the dealership changed my Subaru sparkplugs for at least 30% cheaper than independent mechanics 🤷
Much love Scotty
Even dealerships have done it. Forget to put oil in the vehicle. Put the wrong grade of oil in the vehicle. Charge you for full synthetic and put in conventional. Do you own oil changes if you can.
if it's a Ford dealership and they tell you that they used full synthetic, they most likely just used a blend
The Walmart in Graham NC...same area as Greensboro has damaged my vehicles 2x. I've never been back since.
I worked at that Walmart 10 years ago. 😳. It's in the Pyramid Village Shopping Center.
The turnover rate was RIDICULOUSLY high. HR doesn't even look at the applications. They just hire ANYONE, for ANY department.
if they have a pulse and are reasonably toilet trained, they are hired.
So far I haven't had problems changing my oil at Walmart. But I'm sorry for those who have.I will definitely be careful like you said Scotty!
I live in Indiana and have had my oil change by Walmart and never had any issues
Ha we got an oil change form walmart and they didn't even change the oil
In the uk we call them eco Boom engines.
What kind of cars do you own?
@@CRISSGRULLON 1986 Lincoln Town Car & 1986 F150 4x4.
Thanks Scotty. Ive been changing my own oil nowadays because of your advice
He’s correct. Why hand an expensive device to some guy who’s making minimum wage? Zero qualifications.
Jiffy has always treated me right. I should do it myself but it's hard with little kids.
I change the oil on my truck myself, because, I don't need a lift. My other car is too low to the ground so I have my mechanic do it & supply my own filter and oil.
Had seen a guy lose his tire in the parking lot because they didn't put the lug nuts back on. 😅
Thank you Scotty keep it coming, Great Information, The more you know the more you don't want to know, the big "three" are the big zero imo.
No oil in one car, too much oil in another car. Overall it balances out with the amount of oil.
On the average, all is okay!
never bring a car to lube tech shops always bring it to a mechanic if you cant do oil changes or do it yourself
At 7:40 Scotty Making had movements and sounds of a MagnaRide Suspension 👍
I've bought several cars from people who had their cars oil changed by Walmart .and replaced the engines one of them a 2000 Camry while I still have today made bank in doing so .mostly they either stripped the drain plugs or forgot to tighten the plugs now I know you don't like wrecking yard engines but I don't mind but I make sure the engines are good before I install them. And I have good resources
