Searching the bush for my cameraman's wallet

- THE LOST WALLET: On a recent shoot, deep in the aussie bush, my friend and cameraman Brett lost his wallet. ‘Yeah, great day’ Brett had said, ‘only bummer is I lost my wallet near Mt. Howitt’. Bummer indeed, I thought. A week later I decided to go find it.

Hey Beau - I was the bloke who you bumped into whilst you were filming this- as you were running up towards Brett's tree (I was on the phone to my wife and jumped off the call as soon as I recognised you). Been wondering when I might see this film - my mate and I were wondering for the whole rest of our hike whether you'd find the wallet - we even thought we spotted it at one point further along towards Buggary! Nevermind :( Great film, nice work!
Thanks Pete. Nice one mate. You almost made the film actually (in the background to a few shots), but not the final cut! Keep truckin mate. Goodonya
There's a place called Buggary? I know you Aussies have a thing for naming things as you see them (eg The Great Sandy Desert), which gets me wondering... 😂
Imagine not being the 3rd reply
as an american, i love seeing banter. yall are great.
Hahaha you wherent worthy of the final cut
I lost a pair of sunglasses in the sea when I fell off a paddleboard, bought a snorkel about an hour later to scour where I thought I'd fallen. After about 20 minutes searching I spotted them on the seabed. One of the most satisfying feelings of my life.
Your comment just gave me a short film idea about a spoiled vlogger who lost an expensive GoPro in the ocean and decides to just buy a new one, and then months later during a walk on the beach he finds it washed ashore, and on checking the memory card, the footage is still all there but there is some weird and creepy deep sea snuff footage added to it, and the recording date is from before his own footage.
@@Dowlphin WTF creep
Imagine in the early 2000s you had your car broken in to and in it was your security pass. Only for someone to find it under the Antarctic ice less than 20 years later. The diver who found it held it for a number of years before they found the owner.
I read about this the other day.
Beau Miles films are always a masterpiece, this nearly 11 minute video felt like 2 and all he did was look for a wallet. Incredible story teller
Dang thing was supposed to be 5 mins...but there you go, 11 mins it was
Hey beau... Brett sounds like a guy that deserves a Beau-made wallet. If you film the sewing, I will sponsor the funds for material! You and the people around you are magnificent pieces of individuals. You inspire and is admired. Thanks for you :).
That sounds like an amazing idea
UsInG tHe BuTtOn!!
@@JoeGallantChurchComms Yes!! THE button! 👍😂
@@JoeGallantChurchComms yeah!
Millions of dollars worth of exposure for 20 bucks of material. Smart offer
Been a little down lately, but watching your enthusiasm, kindness, and go get em attitude brings me up a bit. Thanks, Beau, for all you do.
Second that here, he's one of the good guys on RUclips 👍
I agree! Top comment!
Yep
I’ve thought the same thing watching, sometimes rewatching his videos. @TheLegend27 keep your head up, I hope whatever is keeping you down let’s up, and you get your own enthusiasm back, it doesn’t seem you’ve lost any kindness. Best of luck! You got this!
I suggest watching ididathing as well, that channel will cheer you up
I have always wondered who films you on these adventures! We finally got the answer. Props to your camera man for the awesome videos he has helped to create :)
Yes, Bretts been looking down the lens for decades at my bloody red nut! Mitch is my main man these days, but we get Brett in for special projects. (and shout out to Chris Ord also who runs around like a kid with too much energy with me). A helluva team
You get me every time beau, you got me to click a video about a bloke who dropped his wallet and now I'm reminiscing about the decade of work and friendship between two Aussies I've never met in my life!
That was the plan mate. nailed it. G'day by the way
The Button Challenge:
Think of some things you might find on an adventure like this.
Find them - tick the box, pick it up and keep going
When you've ticked every box - you're done and your trail is cleaner than it was yesterday.
Job well done.
The end is my favorite. I always imagine your whole team as being rugged adventurers with too much energy for their own good. Brett shows/tells us that he is more like the rest of us average folk. (Although, I am guessing he still has more energy than most of us).
He is genuinely very hardy. Not an outdoor type at all, but with a good blueprint for one if he ever decided to be
Hey Beau, thanks for this inspiration. I just wanted to share with you that my son recently lost a tooth while having a kick with his mates at the local park. He was stoked that it was out after a week of wobbling, gutted that he wouldn't reap any rewards. Anyway, wife went on a mission to find it and was successful. Found a lost tooth in a footy field. Thought you'd appreciate that one.
I lost my wallet in the snow a couple of years ago. I had a sticker on it with my phone number and name. Someone called me 2 springs later when it appeared! Most everything survived, besides becoming discolored.
Now I lay out my wallet every 6 months or so and take pictures of everything inside it.
Lost my wallet a month ago and was contacted this morning that someone found it in his grandpas yard! Those little buggers have a way of staying hidden
Beau, this is great and all; you’ve gone out on a hopeless mission to find your friends wallet. But the question remains: What are Rice Bubbles?
Rice Krispies
rice krispies?
@@EggBastion yeah, you appear to be correct.
Super dry if he's having them without milk though.
BCpov ! Rice Bubbles are the same as Rice Krispies, but better (... 'cause they're Australian).
Aussie name for Rice Krispies by Kelloggs
Was certain you were going to find it! Brett taking many tumbles made me laugh, sorry Brett.
Thanks for all the good work guys.
We all love Beau, now we love Brett too ❤️
Coming into the video I thougth "ohh no, it's gonne be really unsatisfying when you don't find the wallet" but I still watched it because I trust your filmmaking blindly. Half way in I realised the video wasn't actually about the search and I wasn't at all unsatisfied. You formed this video so elegantly that I didn't even notice the change in meaning of the video from the Idea of searching a wallet to the idea of you making a video about the man behind the camera. This video thus showed in a beautiful manner that you dont always get what you expext and was kind of a small adventure for me wrapped in a 10min film. That is why your work is so addictive to me. Your films are a pretext to what a real adventure is and show all of us that we should go out there and just take on adventures with open minds. Thanks for doing these films inspiring my and millions of other people to have a better live. (:
Brilliant comment! Couldn't agree more! 👍👍
i love this comment
It was a waste of fucking time
This is the meaning of being Mates.
This is the message everyone needs to know.
Just pure "help a mate out"
The sound you made tucking into that grub in the first scene... The same sound I made at the upload notification 👌
As a bloke who's job it is to film other blokes doing stuff, it was really nice to see how much you appreciate your camera man. Three cheers for Brett.
My flatmate lost my car keys out hiking and we also started an unsuccessful search and rescue mission for it. Despite it being unsuccessful I still remember it as one of the best hikes I've ever had.
I love how you don't let your preconceived ideas of what you want to do get in the way of making something great and meaningful. Props to the soft doughy urbanite and his amazing footage. Always good to see people you appreciate being surrounded by such amazing people!
Nuts , uploaded 55 seconds ago. I'm a bit too keen haha. I actually pulled apart a bed today and thought "if I was beau miles I'd make this into a desk. But I'm just not" 😅
Make a side table and be a beau yard
@@alasdairtrimmer4302 Making a desk ! I later thought maybe I can be beau miles haha I'm not gonna let my laziness get the better of me !
I've got the design , ripped out the upholstery and staples and got a lovely little frame and some shelves from a bookshelf I had as a kid, that's gonna be the surface:)
@@alasdairtrimmer4302 I've made the desk , I'm so happy
Always brightens my day to see a new Beau Miles video :)
My family, including my then 70ish years old grandparents hiked Feathertop amongst other places in the late 70’s/early 80’s. My Grandfather put his reading glasses down on the ground during a rest stop near Feathertop and forgot to pick them up again. Naturally, he gave them up as lost forever, but one of the cattlemen who had a run up there found them the following summer and knew that Ben Coopers son had helped people he knew (my grandfather) hike the Bogong High Plains and wondered if the glasses he found might be my Grandfathers? You never know what might get found on the High Plains that can be traced back to an owner
and there was me thinking Beau made up 'mount buggers and mount speculation'... Thought I'll just google to check, nope, legit! Well done Australia, good on you! :)
He never lost his wallet, it was all a ruse for us to get to know the best, but for the outdoors worst prepared, camera man. Love it!
Brett! What a lovely dude. Love the view of what goes on behind the camera, and I agree, more videos needs to be made about the people making the videos possible.
Gantner Hut is my favourite place on this planet, without a doubt. Nothing will ever rival the feeling of comfort and serenity that is sitting in a sleeping bag, filling your gob with a pile of pesto pasta and reminiscing with ya mates after a day on the cross cut. What a place!
To get TWO Beau Miles vids in two weeks is a gift sent from RUclips heaven.
I appreciate these films in such a tremendous, massive way. Thank you for making them. I hope to watch them for many years to come.
Been enjoying the videos this year Beau. Thanks for keeping up with them!
Exactly what i need right now. Thank you Beau for your high quality content!
Another wonderful video Beau, thanks!
What a wonderful and kind tribute to a good friend.
Bloody love it mate. You are an inspiration of just being yourself and living the best you can, and making the best of any situation. Iv been following for years now. Keep em coming!
Great film as ever Beau, always exciting getting a glimpse into the behind the scenes. :)
Always happy to see when you post. Love every one of your videos
Cheers for the great footage Brett! You help make Beau’s stories even more relatable. 👍
your just awesome man, I wish more people were like you! Legend 👊
Dam, we all need a Brett in our lives. Brett is the man, putting up with you, making him sleep in unfavourable conditions, protecting your expensive equipment, making you look good, getting you out of situations, and I can go on and on and on. Make sure to give Brett a raise and you should buy him more than a wallet. Forget you Beau and sending best vibes to my favourite camera man Brett. I would have spent days and days trying to find your wallet. All the best to both of you chaps and always remember to follow your nose!🍁🦫
Love these videos. And the more uploading from yourself. Keep up the amazing work.
“Be the wallet” 😂😂😂…”I’m going to buy him a wallet” 🤣🤣🤣
Haha! What a tribute to a friend. Best stories on RUclips. Not everyone deserves a friend like Beau, but the world would certainly be a better place if they had one. Cheers from the USA mate!
Thank you Brett, for your part in bringing us these amazing videos. Thanks Beau, for being a good man. Take care.

Thanks for being an inspiration! I find myself doing a lot of the same things you partake in. So many people find it absolutely absurd but these type of adventures are the the best part about life. These make the best memories. Never stop Beau!

Your both brilliant. Thank you.
Thanks for putting and incredible grin on my face. Another great story ✌️
Bloody good video once again Beau , love your story telling 🙌
Good morning Beau!Been listening to your audio book every night to get to sleep.I love it,have to keep rewinding it!
I had to move back to the city a few years ago and one of the things I held onto from the countryside was that I let my backyard (whatever isn't being a companion planted garden) go into a small meadow, and when you spoke of meadows I took it as a personal compliment.
Oh my, its one of those Beau-tifull days with a new upload:))))
Legend! Love your videos
You're insane! Love it. What a great reflection on your journey!
Great idea, great execution. Love the video!
Always a bloody good day when Beau post’s a video 🤙

Great video lol amazing. Brett is the man and you the both of you are full of life love it
Always a pleasure to have an adventure from your perspective Beau - especially when it happens to be along some of my favourite parts of the Vic Alps. I almost leapt for joy as I saw you framing a shot on the very rocks where I first saw a Mountain Katydid (justifying hauling my heavy DSLR on a hike)!
Thanks for sharing the world with us all.
I wasn't having a good day.. until I watched this.. laughter is good for the soul but you guys just rock being down to earth with your awesome adventures.
Greetings from America. Discovered your videos a year ago or so. Love em! I've watched the surprise "she shed" and "road wine in the field" videos multiple times. Thanks for letting the world have a glimpse into your ethos. Cheers!
Thanks for being Beau, awesome as always. I feel better now 😊
