Beau: "I'll share some clips I thought weren't good enough for RUclips, you could say Junk Films" *Creates video better than 99.999% of RUclips videos*
I think that's the point of the video Beau was trying to get across (and what I perceive to be his core philosophy). Just because individually, something may not have much value to others, when put together in an amalgam of videos, it can turn into something great for just about anyone. The adventure is finding value in what is often thrown aside as "junk" and creating new value in it, whether it be junk wood, junk film, or even junk commute time.

Beau, I currently am stuck in my bed with Covid. Even when I’m not feeling like death your ability to let me escape is a gift I could never repay. Your an inspiration, thousands of miles away in the USA even in your “failed” films. From the core of my being. Thank you for this 15 min of respite.
No matter where you take us on your journeys, Beau, we always feel transported. Or, at least, I do. I always feel like you've brought us along on your adventures and it's soothing and eye-opening all at once. We've done none of the paddling or chopping or eating, but we get a huge benefit from you for doing those things. Thank you
And Miles to go before I sleep. I enjoyed these little films. I do not expect nor demand perfections, yet all the little films you kindly give us has been very enjoyable and awaken the wonderlust in me. This above was not junk and I am glad you shared them with me. Today I go on a new journey as I get to met my first grandkid. Thanks Beau for all the things you do.
I think we need reminding sometimes that life is just a series of imperfect moments...but it's still worthwhile and wonderful! Thank you for sharing your 4 imperfect films. There's so much wonderful stuff there.
This is amazing. Beau going full circle with his love for junk, creating something out of his own junk. Man, you truly are one of the most underrated filmmakers of youtube.
As a content creator its very refreshing to see someone go through their older videos and talk about what worked, what didn't and how you would improve things. I have a few old projects that haven't seen the light of day that I would love to revisit.
I always absolutely love a peek into anyone's creative process and especially the funky little bits of stuff that never get shown - figuring how why something DIDN'T work is just as good if not better than seeing why something DID work. You should do this with "junk" or unfinished crafty projects as well!
I really like that each one of these 'junk films' taught you a lesson and then you've shared that value with us, talking about the background behind the films and how you would have created them differently.
Love your stories about the failed stories. I have adhd, which means i fail to finish A LOT. Your failed projects are great encouragement and in-betweens from where beginners are and and you have grown. You talk about things creators hide: the struggle, the "i don't want to do this now", the loss of narrative, the components of great process. Thanks. Last night I wrote and for the first time got the "flow of storytelling". In my mind, the voiceover and story was told by you.
What you describe and share is creating for the sake of it. Free flow - no matter the outcome. That is contentment in its purest form. That is art in its purest form. Thanks for this.
the only expertise I have, is on myself. - Beau Miles having this degree of reflection makes this film about failing even more watchworthy. To look back and learn from the oast is a blessing. Thank you for sharing!
It takes a lot of courage to show people your failures. I always love it when creators are willing to explore that side of their work in an open and honest way.
BEAU BEAU BEAU!!! Not junk dog! I call your kind of filmmaking "personal documentary" or "documentary poems" or "essays" or "portraits"- I dig it man - and the form on these short funky films? They have no form but the form you give it. AND THANKS for putting my RUclips comment in your book- it made my day- (I had the book for weeks before someone pointed it out that I was in youR book.I LOVE the idea of backyard adventures more than ever. Cheers, Steve AKA The Talking Fly.
The pumpkin project reminds me of a new tradition I have where after Halloween I scavenge the streets for pumpkins and cook with them. Last year my housemates and I consumed about 6 carving pumpkins. Would recommend.

Camping on a tiny island covered in wild flowers; sitting by the beach and talking, not realising that it was around 11:00pm because the light levels felt like 5:00pm; Beau thinking Banoffee was some interesting Scottish cuisine; spotting seals everywhere and paddling past a fish farm and discussing the conditions the “wild salmon” are kept in and the lice they can develop… Amazing times

Great to hear from you, Beau. Hope all is well in your world. Appreciate all of these videos that you share! They've inspired a lot of good things in my own life. Cheers from Portland, Oregon, USA.
Your films are always great! Whether running a one mile marathon to paddling to work to almost filming eating just a pumpkin for 3 days! I love them all!
Such a pleasant surprise to see Nigel in a Beau Video, Nigel is a man with many stories to tell and conducted the greatest field trip I have been on, It is such a shame that the Hebrides video never made it to fruition.
Thanks a lot! You show how it has to be done. Sometimes, a film project feels quite bad, and you don't want to know why. And in this junk film debriefing, you show one thing: we have to be honest to ourselves to make progress. Thanks for the reminder.

Every one of your films has inspired me, entertained me, made me look at my life, and how I look at life in general. Your students are so lucky and they probably don’t even realise it yet, but they will in time! Thank you so much.
8:46 "If there's one thing about my films, I try and make them personal because that's the only expertise I have, is on myself." Well, yes. And more to point, the studied, relatable, biting, laconically eloquent, nay, poetic self-examination, that's why we watch. And for doing judiciously what done too sparingly hobbles many an artist, editing yourself. As you wouldn't know, I'm telling you now. You're hands-down my favorite.. RUclips filmmaker. (I paused for the bat of an eye, as I nearly spouted the common attribute, which just isn't right.)
Thanks Beau, your comment about how you sort out the difficult problems in your life while alone on adventures(however you expressed it) was timely and true. I got some stuff to figure out and the adventure for the summer just kept running into all sorts of problems and complications that made me think the rational solution would be to call it off and try again in a year. I'd lost sight of the fact that my life needs to be lived at it's natural pace and sometimes that means 14 days driving an old junk pickup truck 1,000 miles back home to Texas and 1,000 back for some bbq and a long bikeride in the heat. I'm going to have a better perspective and alot more contentment when I get back than if I'd put it off as the rational choice. I appreciate you pointing that out
Back again. It's beautiful to see how you can take stories that deserved to be told and give them their little spotlight, even though they weren't quite right. It kind of shows that everything has purpose, even if it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose.
We do appreciate it! Thank you Beau. You're touching on the aspect of "creative loss" which a lot of people don't even think about. As a musician, I have tens of pieces of music, half written, half forgotten, all in various states of incompleteness, and it strikes me as the sort of junk you talk about here. There's little lessons in each of my junk pieces... So maybe I ought to stitch them all together and create something out of them. Oh, and, if you ever see this comment, I tried to buy your book but it never got delivered. They said it was out of stock. Can you send me your book, about the backyard adventurer? I'll gladly pay. Love ya mate.
Beau, I love your personality and attitude towards life. Keep making content, shit or not it’s not for other people it’s for you. You’re an inspiration to me and many others so keep up the amazing work. Cheers from the US!
Beau, these are works in progress but the non-negotiables of quality story telling and humanity are already here in abundance. Most of our favourite movies aren't masterpieces; our favourite music isn't played by the greatest band in the world; we support terrible sports teams. We love these things because of how we connect with them and you have got that absolutely nailed.
Man it is a joy whenever you upload Beau. It is not so much about the quality of the films, or at times the storytelling, it is the passing on of a worldview that looks for a story in everything. It inspires me to look for value in even the most mundane parts of life, a lesson all too important during Quarantine. Thanks for the call back to seeing life as a story thread to be followed.
Thank you for continually inspiring me more and more with each video. In the last year I've backpacked over 50 miles through mountains and wilderness, and my S/O and I plan to buy bikes this winter and start bikepacking on longer journeys. Be curious, see a lot, do more.
Over the last couple weeks I have been obliterating you catalogue of videos. They've all spoken to me on one level or another for one reason or another. Good storytelling is good storytelling is good storytelling. This one however, spoke to me foundationaly. Thank you, Beau.
There were several things that were interesting about this video - the quality of the junk films, the honesty of showing how many bad ideas it takes to make a good one, the sheer slog sometimes required to film things - but the biggest takeaway was the realisation that while, yes, the storytelling ability of Beau is fantastic, it's the landscape of Aus that is so crucial to many of his films. The sun, trees, rolling hills. Contrast that all with the footage from the hebredies which just looked as damp, grey and underwhelming as it is. Despite all the storytelling and filming chops, some places are hard to make look inspiring and joyful. At least my excuse living in the Midlands of England. :D
You are my favourite youtube dude. Keep making! MY biggest regret is never wandering around Australia and I hope my boys do it instead and then maybe i can follow them. They loved the walk to work vid.
I thought all of these ideas had potential but like most things in life you need to fail before you can succeed. These "crap" films made your other films what they are and thankyou for those.

I appreciate you pointing that out
Thanks for not having any junk ADs in between your beautiful Junk.
Back again. It's beautiful to see how you can take stories that deserved to be told and give them their little spotlight, even though they weren't quite right. It kind of shows that everything has purpose, even if it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose.
I see a Beau Mile's post, I click. It was certainly not a waste of my time. Yet again another brilliant one, Beau. Well done and thank you.
Just finished the Backyard Adventurer! Absolutely fantastic. Beau, good to see you’re holding on tight to your title. Great stuff!
The amount of inspiration and joy that I got from watching and hearing those stories can only be summed up but saying Thank you!
Beau,
I love your personality and attitude towards life. Keep making content, shit or not it’s not for other people it’s for you. You’re an inspiration to me and many others so keep up the amazing work. Cheers from the US!
Imagine disliking a Beau video smdh...
Incredible stuff as always!
IMO, you are the best CONTENT creator on RUclips. Thanks.
I love it when you eat and talk. Makes you feel personal and friendly :)
I remember when this channel had 14k subscribers. I'm glad to see it grow the way it has.
Beau puts out some of the best content on RUclips.
Finished the book 2 weeks ago. It perfectly compliments the other videos, and is so inspiring
Yea! It’s great to get the extra details! Idk about all the US camp and guiding stuff
Beau, you can and did end on that.
Great work. Always a great experience.
Thank you for taking the time to upload this.
These "crap" films made your other films what they are and thankyou for those.
beau you have no idea how much i love your videos i was waiting on the edge of my seat for the next episode, keep doing you man your an inspiration me and many others every day.
