When he shows when he lost his original hat I really felt his anger and sadness in that moment. I've had a few moments when I've lost or broken something I used regularly that I loved and couldn't be replaced because it was original and one of a kind.

I think myself lucky to have found this channel. Beau embodies all the philosophical and adventurous qualities that I pursue in this quest in life. I'm James, 26 years old - and I'm at a transitional time where a big chapter of my life is now closing, but as long as I keep my health and my core values true to me - I will find happiness in every day around my own "outback". Beau has been an inspiration to my running and I enjoy doing half marathons of my own creation! I only hope one day I can do an experience such as your 650KM Alps run. So, to everyone here - May you live and find happiness every day of your life.

That's the spirit. The beauty of having few, but necessary and reliable things and treating them like old friends. You'd never leave a friend behind with a bruised knee, but so many throw away their best tools at the first nick.

Being a film maker, I can only hope to achieve such confidence and proficiency in crafting stories, the way that he does. Seemingly out of thin air he grabs these ideas, yet, they entail so much meaning. I hope he never quits film making, just as I hope that my favourite pair of jeans-shorts that I have stiched up so many times and that I have been wearing everywhere for the last 10 years, won't quit on me :D.

Ever since "Run the line" his films have constantly progressed into a niche art form that - at least to my eye - is unparalleled. Certainly on YT. This is a film maker, who is not making a film for the sake of making a film - such as me for example. Rather, he is a film maker, who takes a given sujet and finds meaning through the very process of making the film itself. Quite unique.

my hat that i have had for 20 years and worn on all my adventures was lost to a river.... it was ripped off my head.... just couldn't take the force of the water, went into a hole and never came out. dove after it repeatedly and waited in the water for almost an hour until my legs were so numb i could hardly walk. it was fitting end to a great hat. heres to your hat mate. :)
Man I wish Beau can just multiply himself to make like 5 more Beaus. They can all go out and do their own stuff...I'd eat up all their videos. I hate rewatching anything but I find myself rewatching Beau's videos all the time. My floppy hats last day was spent in the southern alps of New Zealand, doing what it did best. Then I stopped by a lake, took my hat off, rinsed the sweat out, and the cotton on top just dissolved like a flimsy paper tissue. What an epic place to die. Miss that hat.

As a fellow freckle-faced, ginger-bearded runner, I started running trails in hooded UV shirts with a trucker cap because of Beaudy's sun-smart blue hat. I get odd first glances as I fly by hikers on the single track, but then several, "hey, that's a pretty good idea!" Goodonya, Beau. Not to mention that it's very refreshing to hear Beau talk about **this** hat and not try to sell them with a referral code in the video description. I mean, what a commercial, right?

I have a sea-straw wide brimmed hat that I purchased on a vacation in Maui, Hawaii. I have taken that hat everywhere with me and I love it. I would have worn in on my wedding day, but its super gnarly with sweat stains now. So I bought one just like it, all fresh and new, and wore THAT one on my wedding day. I looked damn fine and was lovely protected.
I wore through my beloved Tilley hat at the end of a three month adventure across the eastern seaboard of Australia (a feat not typically taken by Americans). That hat saw me through numerous family vacations to beaches and deserts. I swam in too many rivers, lakes, and beaches to count while hiding under its protection. I watched my children grow before me from under its brim. It was in one last swim at the Trial Bay Gaol in Arakoon, NSW that I finally had to admit defeat. Sweat, UV, and saltwater tore it beyond repair. That was a great hat.
I have to admit i shed a tiny tear for your hat. Your storytelling is just excellent. Your hat reminds me of my favorite knit jumper. Owned that thing since 2003 and it is still going strong-ish. Still fits and i wear it quite often (at least if it is cold enough) has a few holes, some parts are covered in paint, but even that washes off more and more. I hope one day i might be burried in it.

I like what you said about tools. I found a new appreciation for the tools I have with me right now. The ice pack cooling my neck, the spoon I'm eating yogurt with, the chair I'm sitting in, that I found abandoned and gave a new home. And now it gives me comfort. I like these tools.
Retiring your favorite hat is one of the hardest things. Youd think its just a hat but its been through souch with you, its like a friend, its there to protect you from the elements for years. And it can never be replaced, there is no way to find a hat that feels the same and the new one wont jave the memories tied to it

I retired my Mets hat not too long ago, after a couple thousand of trail miles, one breakup, and getting hit by a few cars in it. Was very attached to that hat, and now it lives in a shadowbox in my gear closet.
So much of the 'fitness' industry is about fashion and how you look doing something like running that it really makes me feel heard that I run is clothes that don't match or are daggy. Thanks Beau, I'll go for a run tomorrow.

Introducing Beau, the most frugal man alive! I grew up with pretty much everything around me secondhand or found along side the road; it was either broken, missing a part, or in need of some sort of repair. As a result, I was consequently made fun of by my peers as a kid but I can't help to both cringe at and be inspired by your frugalness!
You go for a run, but then it's not just a run, its a story. That always gets me. And everything you say either makes me smile, think, laugh or commiserate. The way you approach life is simple, but in the most inspiring way, we could all benefit from relearning what you embody everyday.
Other youtubers make videos about new gear all the time. I love that you made one about your old gear that you fixed and used until it literally fell apart.
Beau, this video was right what I needed. I’m going through a breakup and a burnout at the same time and your vids always calm me down and just generally give me hope. I retired my Mets hat not too long ago, after a couple thousand of trail miles, one breakup, and getting hit by a few cars in it. Was very attached to that hat, and now it lives in a shadowbox in my gear closet.
So much of the 'fitness' industry is about fashion and how you look doing something like running that it really makes me feel heard that I run is clothes that don't match or are daggy. Thanks Beau, I'll go for a run tomorrow.

I grew up with pretty much everything around me secondhand or found along side the road; it was either broken, missing a part, or in need of some sort of repair. As a result, I was consequently made fun of by my peers as a kid but I can't help to both cringe at and be inspired by your frugalness!

You go for a run, but then it's not just a run, its a story. That always gets me. And everything you say either makes me smile, think, laugh or commiserate. The way you approach life is simple, but in the most inspiring way, we could all benefit from relearning what you embody everyday.
