Oh, also, when loading in a scene subset character like that, you can hold down ALT, left click on her then drag her into the scene where you wish her to be and she will be loaded, roughly, into that spot (you may need to fiddle with her X, Y and Z location). I will usually save characters as a scene subset with no clothes on. This makes for faster loading as you may not always be using the same clothes. I then save her clothing etc... as a WEARABLE. If I have several outfits, I can load her in with which ever premade outfit I have in mind with only two clicks. I just noticed how you saved your environment settings into a group! That's a great idea! I have a default scene I load and I saved my environment, tonemapping, default camera etc... as it's own scene subset, so I can load them all in any scene to reset it to my defaults. I just grouped them like you did and saved that grouping as a scene subset and resaved my default scene with that. SO much easier for disabling all them in a single click as I have A LOT of scene subsets I have created over time. Anyhow, nice idea.
Yeah, putting things in groups like that is a life-saver for me. Sometimes, if I'm using a model with different outfits I even put THOSE outfits within groups within the character hierarchy - ain't no way I'm hiding shoes, pants, top and underwear by having to press 4 buttons .. no--way! Put them all in a group and just press 1 instead .. massive time saver .. :) Good shout with the dragging the saved subset into scene .. never knew that .. I shall try and use it myself!

Great video I love these little tutorials, always something new to learn for people new to daz, and great to see such talent on Display. I'd Love to see you do a V4 render, i'd like to see that technology pushed to the max, with your skill at scene creation!
Glad to be of service, Richard! A V4 render!?!? ! I haven't touched V4 since I was a wee kiddie .. I might have a look and see what's happening with it!
LMAO🤣, you are telling me that after 2 years of using DAZ I am saving my characters (models) in the wrong way? thank you @Rauko this is super helpful, one last thing, in your very first scene at 0:09 , how can I get that smoky background?
Glad you like .. the background is part of the Boss Lighting setup .. I've added the link in the description as I seemingly get asked this every video I do .. 😀
I'll tell you a little secret .. I've not yet upgraded to 4.22 .. :) .. No reason, just not got around to it .. but there's nothing on the forums to say there's any issues with 3000 cards .. so it should be fine
Hello Rauko, and thanks for your very useful tutorials. I'm a real beginner on Daz, so a lot of things are still obscure to me. First: I've saved many characters the way you presented in this video, but when I load them into a scene, not always but OFTEN, they are like very "heavy", slow to move and pose. If you load several of them into the same scene, everything gradually becomes clunky and slow, making it impossible to work properly. If I instead build them in the scene (loading a figure, then shaping it, dressing it, etc), losing more time, all stays smooth. Is it normal? Am I missing something? Thank you!
Hey there - glad you're liking the tutorials. As for your issue. I can't say I've had the same happen with me. One thing you need to aware of is that Daz eats up a lot of GPU and system memory. Having "several" of them in a scene could weigh your system down a lot if you don't have much memory installed not to mention all the geometry that would need to be drawn in each screen refresh - hence, the UI will slow down. Daz models are far more system hungry than your average game character for instance with more geometry, higher resolution textures, separate hair and clothing models etc .. It's either go simple with Daz and just focus on one, or at most two, models in a scene - or get more memory / faster GPU. However, the loading of a model as a subset shouldn't cause any extra strain on your system over a model built from scratch. I suppose it's possible some fat gets saved out / loaded in that's not there with a model build from the ground up - but again, it shouldn't have much impact on your system unless you have low system ram or low GPU ram. As I say, I've never noticed this but then I have lots of both Ram and GPU ram so I might not notice it.
@@fantescelto3445 Ha! There's no clear answer on that one .. it "depends" .. the simple answer would be as much as you can afford. But it depends on what you're trying to do. It starts with your GPU .. Most modern GPUs start with 8gb of memory on board. A rule of thumb states you should have 4x your GPU memory in System memory. So an 8gb GPU means you should aim for 32gb of system memory. Ultimately, as I said above, it's about what you're wanting to do in Daz. If you're happy with a single model in a simple scene (and many people are) then the 8gb GPU above with 32gb memory should suit you fine .. but if you want more models in scene, bigger scenes, do animations etc etc .. then more is better.
Doesn't daz have a "template" function or link one model with another? i mean. If I am creating a comic, where my character appears in several frames, and then I decide to make some change in the model, is there no way for me to make the change in one of them, and that is replicated in the others?
Sadly not - if you make the change in one you'll have to go back and change each scene individually. There is a way around it which I sometimes use where if I'm doing a number of images taking place in the same location (for instance, I'm currently working on a Visual Novel with many images per scene) - I do each image on separate frame on the timeline and eventually render them out as though rendering an animation. What this allows me to do is to .. almost .. achieve what you're asking about as if I want to make a change to a model in that scene .. I'll go to frame one, make the changes and that should in most cases change in each frame thereafter. There are limitations but it's kind of a "cheat" way to do it ..
Not trying to be a bother but are you still using your 3090? Or did you perhaps upgrade to 40 series? I'm looking to buy a new card between 3080ti and 4070 super.
I did move onto the 4090 when it got released .. and I use my 3090 on a backup PC for batch rendering .. mainly for animations .. With the range you've said .. you'll get quite a range of performance .. the 3090 will beat the 4070 (or should .. I've not seen the performance on the 4070 Super yet) and with the 24gb vram .. that would be my choice .. but the price is still high and as such, if you're going to spend that much and can wait for a while, it might be worth waiting for the 4080 Super (I actually don't know when release is for 4080S ..so .. ) It also depends on what you do in Daz .. I've noticed Daz scenes are getting bigger at render time and so VRam size is starting to be as important GPU Speed .. Ultimately, it comes down to "buy the fastest you can afford with at least 16gb VRAM" ..
One last question. Did you notice anything different when rendering (lighting wise or quality wise) when you move from 3090 Daz 4.21 to 4090 Daz 4.21. Sorry if this was a silly question but I currently using a 3060 12 GB with Daz 4.20 and I decided to go for a 4080 super (Released already) like you suggested and I'm kind of sensitive to these minor changes from architecture to architecture or daz version to version. Much appreciated for your time.@@RaukoDaz3D
I never noticed any difference but it could be that when I got a new PC with the 4090 I also got a huge 4k 120hz TV too with all fancy dan colour corrections and various things - so if there was a difference, it probably would have got lost in there somewhere. It's possible from one version of Daz to another (and not just 4.21 to 4.22 - but smaller iterations) that there are noticeable difference due to changes in Iray at NVIDIAs end ..
@@RaukoDaz3D Yes, that's understandable and most likely something that you have to accept whether you like it or not.
