    Great Job, getting to grips with my xvlp now only for home use, I've sprayed walls, ceilings and woodwork and wouldn't go back to a brush and roller, masking is a pain but I really enjoy the spraying, I could never get a finish I was happy with using waterbased paints using a brush despite trying the best brushes, wetting the doors etc thanks for your videos they've been a great help, ps how your clothes stayed white while you did this is beyond me and hail the Benny Hill music :)

    Hey just looking into buying one of these. I’m looking to have a gloss finish on some wardrobes what would you recommend. Or a high sheen finish at least

      I would say renner currently, but it is not something I have experience using myself yet. I would not recommend standard water based gear on furniture, only 2k gear for long lasting durability... And the xvlp isn't really ideal for spraying 2k gear as far as I know. You could spray solvents if you have a workshop or unit?
      I know people use helmi, allcoat ect..... But these types of paints have no chemical resistance which you need imo, and they just don't last.
      I am currently looking at investing in stage 5 hvlp and compressor set up for spraying 2k gear.

    Also, You mentioned "wanting the paint to absorb". Paint isn't meant to absorb into wood. That's what solid stain is for.

      Yes this gear wasn't ideal for this project, but was all I could get hold of during the peak of lockdown. I'm aware it's not ideal as a primer/sealer....but thinned down enough...it did soak a little into the timber acting as a primer/sealer......I tried anyway...lol....its not the best gear although they do market this as a preserver, and it isn't fully opaque.
      I can tell you that it's as good as ibthought it would be .......rubbish......but in future I will stick to my usual sikkens for a stain, or superdec for an opaque finish

    Great videos joe thank you for sharing I have learned a lot, I’m a painter from Australia and bought a second hand xvlp 3500 and the standard yellow needle is damaged, I will using this unit just for small jobs ,front doors etc, how do you like the yellow head? Says that it’s made for thicker materials...

    • @JoeProDecor
      @JoeProDecor  3 года назад +1

      I don't use the standard head tbh. I use the brown fine finish head for almost everything, and very rarely the nast bkue head.
      Thank you for your support

    Hi Joe...I've recently purchased one of these sprayers. Can I ask, after you've done the first coat, did you just leave the paint in the sprayer, or did you clean it out until you were ready to go again?

    • @JoeProDecor
      @JoeProDecor  3 года назад +1

      Hi David, I left the paint inside leaving a wet rag over the tip area. If doing this make sure it's dry before spraying again as the air pushes any droplets onto your surface... Made that mistake once 😁
      I just give it a shake or stir before using again

    Hi Joe live in Sydney just purchased the FX 5000 questions should I thin primer down as well as the main coat spraying a new door just having a few problems

    • @JoeProDecor
      @JoeProDecor  4 года назад +1

      Hi yes, you pretty much have to thin all water Bourne paints except water based lacquers.
      Anything that is z hybrid can potentially be more problematic, but can still be slrayed with a bit of fine tuning.
      The best of luck with it 👍

    • @Snip59
      @Snip59 4 года назад +1

      @@JoeProDecor cheers can u do a in-depth video on the FC 5000 thining water based primers plus semi enamel water based from start to finish as using mine lot of overspray indeed is that due to paint not being thined enough or the airflow to high

    • @JoeProDecor
      @JoeProDecor  4 года назад +2

      @@Snip59 yeah try reducing airflow...but with this machine,you are forced to increase airflow with water based coatings to eliminate thinning too much, so unfortunately I would except a certain amount of overspray. A stage 5 hvlp with power control like the graco 9.5 will likely reduce overspray a little.
      I would be happy to do a more in-depth video on thinning, but every situation throws up different results and its a case of just fiddling around with settings to get a result you are happy with. I have tried spraying certain products through this machine, and I've not been able to get desired results without thinning too much. I don't like thinning a satin or gloss finish more than 20% because its obviously going to effect the durability and sheen level of the product. Using a water based satin, then thinning 20% is going to result in an eggshell finish...which the client didn't ask for....so what I'm saying is that the xvlp, hvlp are not always perfect for high solid water based products

    • @JoeProDecor
      @JoeProDecor  4 года назад

      @@Snip59 I don't use the xvlp on a regular basis tbh, but when I next use it, I will video the thinning and warming proccess. I am however in the proccess of looking into purchasing a graco 9.5 procomp with pressure pot....im just trying to hang on incase they update to something like a stage 6
