To celebrate Christmas, I chop down my own tree using an axe from the Bronze Age and decorate it, using ancient Sumerian traditions. It's a classic How to Make Everything Christmas (technically Zagmuk) celebration!

I'll never get tired of the shot of Andy falling into a pile of berries
I laugh EVERY TIME.
Any link to the original video?
Andy is the cranberry boy, the cranberries chose him to become the berry boy
It's pretty funny I know

This made me Lmao 🤣
This reminds me of when William Osman brought his “life hack” chainsaw to cut a Christmas tree
Except Andy's axe actually worked.
Haven't even watched that part of the vid yet and I can tell his is better than William's
the difference is this time the owner of the tree farm wasn't scared shitless
William gave a psa on not building a chainsaw from scratch
😂😂😂
Why did you never tell us you're a master cookie decorator in addition to all those other things?! That's some awesome cookie shaping!
I know a great lady in Pepin, WI that could make hand-made cookie cutters in those designs.
She is a marvelous tinsmith.
I would pay good money for a set of those. Her husband is also world class blacksmith.
Andy should visit their shop. They are simply amazing and wonderful people.

I have always wondered: Do you have a celebration of some sort in the dark part of your winter, to break up the stretch of dreary cold days?
@@anne-droid7739 most populated citys are "near" the tropics, it depends how far south one lives
@@Fenrisboulder I wasn't referring to the tropics--that's why I mentioned the cold.
@@anne-droid7739 I can only speak for new zealand here, though I suspect australia is the same, and nope, at least, nothing on the scale of of christmas. depending on where you are some places will celebrate winter solstice, but there's no public holiday or anything in the middle of winter. it's kind of a huge bummer when you realise that the "point" of christmas is to be a big midwinter party so people don't get too miserable over winter and we just??? don't have any equivalent down here???
edit: since i wrote this comment, aotearoa has introduced matariki (maori new year) as a midwinter public holiday, but it's still tiny compared to christmas
@@thelemonarts That's too bad--you kind of got the short end of the stick on that. Damned boreacentrism! I guess you'll just have to make do with an extraordinarily beautiful land, a sane government, and widespread happiness. =) Thank you for replying, and Merry Christmas!

those oil lamps gave me gramma-tale flashbacks, she used to tell the story of when she was young and her aunt decorated the tree with candles. the candles had little metal cups and a clip to hold them on, but still were very dangerous, and one of them tipped and caught the whole thing aflame. her father grabbed the thing and threw it out into the street, and it was gone to ash and sticks in moments. pine sap, paper ornaments, popcorn garland, and candles were all a flammable mess, but its what people did about that time. one of their neighbors nearly died from a similar incident, and was the reason our family almost stopped having a tree altogether for some years until household electric sets became affordable.
also- dried slices of apples with spices dusted on them were used as ornaments too since very old times, and easier to hang. ^_^ whole apples are easier to rest on the crook of branches to be stolen as snacks by passers-by during the holiday, also fun for oranges and popcorn balls hidden in the tree as "treasure". (its an old tradition from somewhere we wound up with in the family.)
In my entire family we have always had candles on our christmas tree and I don't remember it ever being a problem. As long as people are cautious and only have the candles lit while they are observed and the candles are placed correctly in the first place it shouldn't be a problem. But I'm a Dane and we lit candles everywhere all the time (was it really hygge if there wasn't a lit candle in sight?) so maybe it's a cultural thing.
We usually burn the thing on purpose, outside. We get a really thick log and try to get it to burn without going out for 9 days from the 22nd to the 31st. If there is a remnant, it goes under a bed in the house that hosted the burning to give good luck, and is used the following year to light the next log. Everyone who tends the fire gets a supply of mulled wine: made from a sweet red wine, honey, and cinnamon. There are 3 feasts held during the 9 days. At the first feast, it is pork potroast, rye bread, cheese, and beer. That's on the 22nd to kick off the holiday. The second feast is on the 25th and is ham, potatoes, rolls, vegetables, and wine. The third feast is on the 31st and is pork sausages with cabbage and sour cream, and cider. Pork is the main meat at all of the feasts because there is a boar in heaven who is killed every night to feed the people who have died and is resurrected after every evening meal. But during this time of the year, all the dead go hunting and come back to our homes to eat with us, so we have pork.
Those cookies really look like those relief sculptures!
The one of Tiamat looks really good.
Everytime someone says cranberry I want to see Andy falling
Not gonna lie, that tree looks better decorated than any I've ever had

idk why but something about the crudeness of that axe is really cool looking, it really look like someone just figured out how to cast bronze and made a tool out of it. got that 3-4000 B.C.E look to it, like looking at an artifact pulled out of time itself

I know this was a joke but tree farms are actually good for the environment. There are probably 10-15 years worth of trees on these farms that are always getting replaced. Going and cutting down a new one is far better than having a plastic one that lasts for 15 years.
RUclips 2019 and Mr.Beast: 20 Mil trees!!
Andy: um actually...
sadly 20mil trees would not actually help the environment as that is only a fraction of what actually would be needed to reverse the current damage we have donet o the planet.

Dang, glad I pulled up RUclips this morning. Love the new direction of this channel, I’ve always loved primitive technology, but he’s going to stay in the Stone Age for obvious reasons, and he doesn’t explain historical significance, which is the right formula for him, but ive always wanted to have a primitive technology like channel for Iron Age stuff.
Logan Bennett He not staying in the Stone Age. Andy’s already in the Bronze Age and he plans to make steam engine.
@@kepamaetani3530 That's what I'm saying I like. My wording is bad, but I was talking about another channel "Primitive technology" and comparing that and HTME, the differences being that HTME is going beyond the stone age, and also explains the historical significance of the tech.
Dobby is seriously the best cat. Love seeing her in videos🥰😍
Thanks for acknowledging that only the northern hemisphere is getting colder.. people forget we are coming to summer.. and that looked like our Aussie Santa!
Andy, team HTME and all the viewers of the channel. I bid there a happy festive season and a jolly good new year.
Christmas as a fest is mostly Celtic Germanic Yule, which is the celebration of year circle (hjul = wheel) and Odin, but it has roots in Mesopotamian Zagmug and Roman Saturnalia. The tree tradition is originally palm leaves and probably is older than 4000 years.
Yule! Praise the blue skin Long Horn god of the Celtics!

Christmas trees came from the German pagan traditions. They slowly became part of the Christian tradition of Christmas as Prussian officials moved to Vienna. Here is a Wikipedia article on the first Christmas tree in case you're interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_tree
Growing up, every holiday I made garlands out of cranberries and popcorn, no joke; though I would do mixtures instead of just one of each. Also add pinecones to the tree; those were nice too.
Haha. That Zagmuk part got a lol out of me.
Protect tree man at all costs, he is too Precious
I don't understand how this channel doesn't have more views..
I wrote down the Zagmuk cookie recipe, so I'm definitely going to try those. I have a very nice rolling pin that I turned on my spring-pole lathe.
For a second I thought he was about to say Mesopotamia was the first to have winter solstice. It’s ALWAYS Mesopotamia. The first to do anything in ancient times
13:28 ZeGmAcH
In Canton area the winter solstice is the norm. It's more or less both the thanksgiving and the christmas, but without any religious meaning. Even to this day, despite that it's not an official holiday, school and other work places would still go off a little bit earlier so that everyone can go back home earlier and celebrate it. As for new year, in China it's the first day of the Chinese calendar (aka agricultural calendar, or sometimes mistakenly "lunar calendar" as opposed to "solar calendar" which is the calendar everyone uses), also known as the Spring Festival, but that term can also mean the first 7 or 15 days of the (Chinese calendar) year. That means Jan. 1st mostly has no special meaning and is only there because the date is special.
Ice fall from ice, moon runs fast, what gods doin?
Season finally should be Andy making civilization from scratch!
I wish you a marry Zagmuk too! Also happy Hannuka (which is the one I'm celebrating), Marry Christmas, Happy Quanza, and so on and so on. Don't you think we have so many holidays in this time of year that it will just make WAY more sense to combine them all to one MEGA Holiday?
