- This is a simple and easy guide for learning how to use your block and parry better. This serves as a "how to" on how to parry against different enemies, and why you want to parry. This might count as a small melee combat guide. Please enjoy this video I humbly bestow upon you.

That's a cool looking sword. I think it's trying to tell you there are orcs nearby.
I hope more people get this reference.
I love Harry Potter too bro
Glad to see there's other King Arthur fans out there
I found humanoids have a visual cue (glowing weapons) and animals have audio cue (the wolf growls in a specific way) The animal one took a bit to notice but once I did it was easy to parry animals.
You see, I was trying to follow the audio cue, but it led to me just blocking the attack. Most parries on animals came from almost right as they connect. I'll test again to see if it was just a skill issue.
They need to significantly increase/alter the animation speed of merciless attack. It feels very slow and slugish trying to place a ME into the flow of combat.
Yeah. You can't use it mid combo. You need to stop attacking and position yourself just right so that the button prompt appears. It sucks. I just stopped using it altogether.
You can also have it interrupted if something hits you during the animation
I would appreciate them putting the activation on a different button. Accidentaly revived a buddy when I was trying to finish a mob.
I think the combat in Enshrouded doesnt have any buffering, so that is probably the root of the problem
Jump attack and Merciless Attack are both detriments to the flow and (especially Jump Attack) kill potential. It's much better just stacking on attributes and swinging with a 1-hander. 2-handers are awful even with full talents.
@@jcalle2 Agreed. The only talents I'd recommend getting for melee are the warrior skill tree line, evasion attack, healing on crits and Breach (100% more melee damage after you break a block).
The two capstone nodes from Barbarian are really good too, but it's a really big points investment, and you have to waste points on the skill increasing two handed speed along the way.
The dual wield poison axe Fell... my nemesis for parry
My nemesis for everything, first time I fought one I tried getting higher ground to cheese them and almost shit my pants when it started climbing up after me.
Took me a while but i found the easiest way to fight them is to simply block and let them finish their combo then get a few attacks in.
Won't lie, I have climbed to safety to wand them down more times than I would like to admit lol.
Thank you for another great video! 🎉
Thanks for watching!
I needed this, thanks.
Glad I could help!
I have so much trouble with the double green sword guy. He's waay too fast for me. The breathing he does when he's running is scary, too.
Sounds like I can find some tough enemies, and hopefuuly devise a guide to beat them.
Second. I never got a parry on them, and going tit-for-tat, they are whacking my shield a lot for one whack from me. If not one-on-one, I just run for elevation or safety.
@@PatricioINTP Parry the green guys as soon as they start their windup. Takes about 3 parries to stagger
Me too! I gave up trying to parry that guy so I usually just go to town with him and go full ooga booga
@@sirchad9227 This is the way
Thank you been having trouble with the party !
Glad I could help!
The controls are laggy sometimes. I get stuck when switching between ranged and melee attacks. It will randomly shoot arrows when using a wand. Movement controls get stuck moving in one direction and I have to take my hands off the keys to let the game "reset".
I think the combat might not buffer inputs, so you are forced to wait on animations. I have had this same problem in other games unluckily.
Same. Parrying either starts way too late to work, or doesn't even start at all, leaving me just open taking hits and usually dead before I can do anything else. The combat controls in this game are clunky.
Can you make a video on how to deal with the wraiths that throw two flying scythes at you? The normal ones that fire two white air blasts are easy to avoid but the red hooded wraiths are a nightmare. Their scythes have infinite homing skills no matter how I try to dodge roll avoid, they always hit, IMO the only hard mob in the entire game.
I am the people's gamer. I shall deliver.
Face tank it
The floaty banshees like in the Carpenter's Vault? They are weak to fire magic. Hit them with one staff shot and 2-3 wand shots and they go down like butter. :) (And, my toon is a not a magic build... at least not yet. Still thinking abt it.)
@@maruzze I cannot recommend a mage build enough. First character was a mage, firing nukes from my staff by endgame. This game puts a lot more focus on magic than Valheim, to the point that not using magic at all isn't all that viable. Wands alone give so much good short to mid-range potential, and allow you to deal with flying enemies so much easier.
The parry not staggering them is such BS tbh. The green cleaver guys basically attack 0.5 seconds after you stun them. You can't even get in a single attack before they start swinging.
They are very aggravating, but I have a video coming soon.
An excellent guide!
Question: Do the different kind of humanoid mobs always fight the same way regardless of their level?
Thanks for sharing TOC 5⭐'s
Yes BUT they'll start to have variants. This will be visual though if you're paying attention
Yeah, spot on. Variants are usually obvious.
Glad I could help! For the most part they stay the same, but there does begin to be some variants that have different attacks. You'll know them when you see them.
I just dodge roll since the spear almost one hits me I can't afford to miss the timing. I will be doing merciless attacks from behind from now on though.
Glad you got something out of this! I feel like melee builds should be a little tankier considering how hard enemies hit, and the pacing of the quests quickly has you in zones higher level than you should be.
I suck at parrying so I just respecced before I logged with Heavy Handed so I can just spam, like you said, left clicking. I'm only 7 so I'd appreciate any insight moving forward.
Also, liked/subbed
I would probably rely on dodging/blocking more, and then attack during the time they are not attacking. I would maybe look into some Melee/Magic hybrid builds to have spells for tougher enemies. Thanks for the sub!
Wheres the green dual cleaver wielding scrapy boi who has insane attack speed? Thats the only one i wanna know how to properly fight/parry.
Soon. He isnt too bad, once you know him.
It's so laggy and broken I'm thinking about giving up on melee altogether until it's fixed. With mage I'm holding the shield up and zapping wand no problem. With my warrior/tank the shield doesn't even come up often.
It feels like the shield takes a second to activate once pressing block, and that feels rough. Valheim was much more responsive with the blocking.
@@t0ssacoin408 I just tested it again. Literally no enemies within melee range and I click or hold right mouse.. nothing half the time. Like what the heck, I've tested on two computers now.
@@djnorth2020 That is super weird. Not sure what the fix would be.
How do you handle those green glowing scrap guys?
They are super fast, throw several attacks at once and my blocks seem to do nothing sometimes.
Parry - swing once - repeat. Guessing this dude in the video was too scared to fight them so he skipped showcasing them.
I can put together a short or something after work, I'll probably do an indepth guide on tougher enemies later.
They are definitely scary, I just try to keep my guides short. I like a challenge though, I shall deliver.
Easiest way I've found to kill them is use the blink skill with a shock wand. I just kite them around. I rarely get hit.
@@boltr0n186 Wands are the way
with animals you have to parry with sound
I was trying that, but I was still parrying too early. I'll have to try some more I guess to see if I'm just bad or not.
Thanks a lot for your nice video, but how you can parry correctly with group of enemies? In my opinion, it's not so effective against a group of enemies.
For multiple enemies, it all comes down to your movement and kiting. It does usually become more difficult to parry the more enemies there are.
is there a graphical setting to see this. my fell don't glow blue when they swing. and dont parry
The weapon should glow, it isnt super obvious. If you still can't see it, I'll look through settings.
it's way more obvious in the dark. the big wind up they do right before is a good indicator. the dogs kinds of have one too. but i dont trust myself to parry enough to pull this build off. kudos to you
@@richardgayler2971 Magic heavily outscales melee later, so I would only play melee if you really love it.
@@t0ssacoin408 it's kind of a shame just how much this game leans into its magic system. I love it, it's fun to use, but pretty much everything else competing against magic falls short.
On my first character, the only time I stopped going full magic was to deal with the Wispwyvern, cuz it dealt too much damage. I got some of the Adventurer's armor and beat that thing to death with a fire wand.
@@panther-nk2hn That sounds about right for the current balance of the game
I stop trying to Perry cause it was causing me to die over and over again. I dont have fast enough reflect. Honestly I die a lot and when I say a lot I mean a lot. Like I find the combat to be extremely hard.
Parrying isnt for everyone. Give magic a try, it is a ton of fun.
I frames during merciless attack?
I don't think so. I have been interupted before.
Can you parry any boss attacks? I've not tried that yet.
Most likely not, since parrying isn't based on you getting hit or not, but based on a trigger from a enemy's animation...
This game isn't emulating dark souls in a way to have parry cheesing, it's only limited parrying to a degree.
It's all gimmicks really and people are submitting feedback to change the entire combat system to be more skill based and fun.
I havent had any luck yet. The handful of times I tried I just got smacked. I'll keep trying and release a short or something if I am able to.
Yeah, I would even appreciate some special moves for each weapon to give each weapon a more distinctive feel. Alot of combat can just be lmb.
@@dra6o0n I will agree with that 100%. In the game's current state, magic is kind of the only viable class. Everything else just doesn't do enough damage.
how to parry a lich?
Honestly havent tried to parry one yet, I used bows and magic for that one. I can always try and see what happens.
Parrying might need a bit a tweaking in future updates. Specially like you said in non-humanoid creatures the timih feels off. I would prefer a more valheim approach to parry and less dark souls
I as well. Really enjoy a parry based fighting style.
As long as we don't get silly parrying on archers right? 😄
Though I gotta admit that was funny in Valheim im glad they never removed it
@@SamLopeZz Yeah, I made sure to test that quite a bit. Nothing like a random arrow parry.
Could be intentional because animals can't block and they're not as vicious as some of the human enemies. I think you can backstab most of them by blocking first or simply moving uot of the way of their attacks. Boars might be easier if you wait for their tusk jab move. Haven't tried it, but I imagine it would be easier to see coming.
@@SamLopeZz Until I read that, I'd forgotten that you could parry ranged attacks in Valheim. That was a lot of fun, parrying in Valheim was excellently done.
try to parry those green dual cleaver guys
i hate this enemie
parry works also not always without targeting .... aka softtarget
i feel locking on to targets get a better blocking and parry value / chance
Looks like those green guys are a common problem. I'll def make something to help everybody with them.
You do not need to backstab them for the merciless attack. In fact, I don't think hitting them in the back in the ME does any extra damage at all. Backstabs and ME are two different kinds of attacks in Enshrouded.
Correct you do not need to backstab for the merciless attack, I just wrap around to the back because It does have the backstab prompt pop up when I merciless attack from behind.
@@t0ssacoin408 Thanks for clarifying, I thought you were implying in the video that you had to go around to ME. Good vid!
@@seniorfiance My bad, just means I need to explain things better. Glad you enjoyed the video!
im sorry is your name a witcher reference? that is so cool 😭
It is, my avatar and channel banner are themed after it too lol
@@t0ssacoin408 Game, series or book?
@@panther-nk2hn Books>Game>Series
sure, now show us some combat parry against the green ninjas.. come on, i dare u
They don't call me the people's gamer for nothing. I shall deliver.
i thnk they are the scavangers
Probably right. I need to pay more attention to the lore books. It probably says so.
Left click to win.
Super viable
i prefer the parry style of valheim to this sort of dark souls animation lock, its way better to just do bonus damage to anyone staggered. im having trouble being interested in this game with its wonky combat.
I would like for them to do a bit of both, and add some input buffering so that combat feels a bit smoother
This game has got some MAJOR issues with how it treats melee. If you take a look at 2:11, he still took damage doing a parry. Later on you will fight enemies who deal SO much more damage (yeah the dual poison cleaver raiders) These guys attack nearly nonstop and are almost completely immune to parrying. You can parry them, but most of the time- you will take the full damage, and it won't be long until that kills you. I just wish games would stop treating melee as only useful as a meatshield, or jumpattack demon thing..... melee could be great ALONGSIDE magic and archery, but not in this game...
Also, I know everyone has so many tips about what I'm doing wrong- spoilers, the game is broken for half of it's users half of the time, it isn't any wonder why it's all jacked up mechanic-wise too.
You pretty much summed it up. Parry needs a buff and needs to be reliable to give melee something to work with. Magic is just better in every way currently.
The game has far so little fun. Mat drops are lame and terribly little, which makes for a constant flow of constant farming of mats. Lame time-sinks?
I havent really felt the mat farming too much, however, survival games are usually pretty grindy. When ark released early access, sheesh, that was a grind lol. I heard the Enshrouded grind gets rough around the desert though.
@@t0ssacoin408 If you play Ark on official servers, it's STILL a grind.
I didn't have too much trouble in the desert, but I was playing Mage, that might've had something to do with it.
@@panther-nk2hn Once I finally got to the desert, I could really tell they were still working on that part of the game.
parrying feels shitty ngl
It def should be stronger. Shouldnt have to parry multiple times.
Sounds like s total stupid and unrealistic implementation of party.
Hope this changes
Currently not a fan of how it is implemented, but parrying is my favorite part of melee combat in most melee games. It is tough love out here.
