- "This watch has always had something particularly stylish about it," says HODINKEE editor Cole Pennington. "But this most recent example may be the one that's finally found its footing."
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, in one form or another, has been around since 1993. But this watch features important updates (polished ceramic dial, ceramic bezel, and Co-Axial caliber 8800) that might elevate it past all those that came before it.
In this episode of A Week On The Wrist, Cole shares how this modern classic exemplifies the high-low aesthetic: a watch that can go anywhere and do anything, easily.

Beautiful presentation. I got my first steel Seamaster for my 21st birthday in 1958, then demolished it when it took all of the load when I slide down the road under my 1957 Triumph Tiger 100, another 1950s design classic. My every day watch is a gold Seamaster that my late wife gave me for my 50th birthday.
And now you have inspired me to buy a Seamaster 300 as my very last watch. Phil
No need to say last. You'll have more than that!
As someone born right before 2000, your omega story is very admirable. I saved up for a used planet ocean for my acceptance into a PhD program, so it means a lot to me as well.
@@seek__on Thank you for sharing that kind thought. What I wrote was how I really felt, because I am having a massive problem caused by serious long term concussion that was caused by an extremely violent Criminal Assault by a 6 ft. 4 in, 15 stone, 15 years old youth who was out of his mind from a combination of drugs and alcohol. The unexpected blow, from a very close distance, direct at my mouth resulted in the loss of all my teeth because the two high grade alloy partial dentures sheared all of my teeth off at gum level, which also caused the partial loss of sight in my left eye, which is a problem because last year I lost the total sight in my right eye from macular degeneration, which cannot be cured. But the real problem is that the effect of long term concussion is delaying a medical operation to my mouth and teeth.
But that long list of problems is there simply because I wanted to tell you that your kind words lifted my depression and you have made me get right back to my normal positive attitude.
I am not dying and all of the above problems are difficult to live with, but that's not the same as saying they are impossible to live with.
So thanks for totally reviving my spirits, while giving me some new goals. Phil.
Phillip Moodie terrible story there, I do hope you get the right treatment soon. Get that seamaster ordered as a well deserved treat 👍. I have the black version and I adore it. I’m sure your gold seamaster is very special indeed.
Gotta love a pre-unit T100ss 👍🏻👍🏻
@@phillipmoodie9071 Phillip reading your comments and I wish you well sir from Scotland, I hope to soon buy the Seamaster before I turn 35 (I'm currently 30) but I've a house to purchase before then so will likely get the Longines Legend Diver which I adore as a stopping station on my way.
Keep your head up and always reach out to friends , I suffer from some troubles too from time to time and my issue is preferring isolation which is never the answer, keep well buddy.
Warm regards,
“Don’t buy things. Buy experiences.”
This watch is an experience
Exactly. And you 'experience' this each and every time you wear it.
Great point there - buy things that only enhance the experience, now that's what one would consider an "investment".

That’s why I shoot Leicas…
Never seen such a beautifully balanced dive watch from Omega before. That black and white aesthetic gives the Seamaster 300 a timeless elegance. Combined with the 8800 coaxial movement, its tough, antimagnetic and totally reliable. I have finally found the watch to time the remaining days of my life with!
I read comments under this vid, and they are a treasure also.
That feeling when Hodinkee puts out a video of the watch on your wrist.
Man I wish
I know right. Blue for me though
Here's mine in natural, outdoor lighting -- it's a stunner! ruclips.net/video/nWfddteRR7I/видео.html
@@DougsPerspective I laughed so hard when you mocked hodinkee about the HE valve and date at 6 oclock
I’m waiting for the 300 America’s Cup watch to arrive at my boutique.
Just bought this today from my local Omega boutique for my birthday, thanks to your video. I hadn't gotten myself a new piece in a very long time and deserved a treat. This watch on the rubber band feels SO good (better than I expected), and the white dial is so pleasant to glance at. Highly recommend this watch, and all content from the Hodinkee team
How is your 10 months review so far?
Finally saw this in person at the local AD. I was prepared to be underwhelmed but was pleasantly surprised. It's a stunning watch in person under multiple lighting conditions. This was on the rubber strap.
every time i look at the dial, the complexity and simplicity have combined with each other and create a masterpiece. It's mesmerizing!
I bought a b & p Brosnan Seamster this year at auction. Shows you the power of marketing. 17 years after watching the film as a child I was still compelled to have it as my first ‘proper’ watch
Omega did an amazing job with this one! What many reviews fail to mention is that the dial itself is ceramic!
Its a stunner...when I saw the grey version the first time I instantly fell in love with it and went out and bought it. It’s to this day still the perfect watch for me and they did indeed make a home run here!
I own a titanium version with the blue face gifted to me by my wife for Christmas 1999. I have worn it most days since I got it. It has been serviced twice and still looks great and runs well losing about a minute every couple of days. I’m ready to add the new version to my stable.
I have this on the bracelet and it is just simple beautiful. Not once did I regret buying this over a Rolex in fact I sold my JLC and Breitling when this arrived even though it was the least expensive of the 3 by some margin. I just fell in love with this watch.
Got mine last december. Beautiful watch, when I'm wearing it I can't stop looking at it haha
Been eyeing out the Seamaster for many years and just never took the plunge. After seeing this watch with the massive movement improvements over previous generations I just couldn't resist any longer. The watch is a work of art and certainly a master piece! The metal bracelet is too big, bulky and heavy for my liking, but on the rubber strap its magic.
Well done, thank you. 1:25 - I bought the Diver 300M in 1996 and at the end of last year I got the NEW one with a glass bottom, screwed strap, ceramic bezel and the great handmade movement. I love both of them. ;-)
Just picked up one of these on the strap. Fantastic watch you can get
Bought the black variant of this a month ago. Absolutely love it.
Love mine ,wearing it every day ,best bang for buck out there and as you say so wearable and comfortable, love your presentation of the video, you need to do more reviews, great work.👍🇦🇺
I came for the watch, I stayed for the soothing ASMR voice. Thank you, great presentation.
Cole, Thanks for a great review that nails some of the key highlights, e.g., the controversy over the helium escape valve, fantastic quality for the price, and what else the Diver 300M is doing battle with in the marketplace and IMHO winning as far as what you get for what you pay. I'm drawn to this white dial/rubber strap variant too and how it is a High-Low kind of watch.
Lovely video. Agree on all points. I had a hunch this new reference was the watch for me--and you closed the deal. Thank you!
I see a SMP in my future with this iteration. Thanks for the review, well done!
Those scenes have been memorized in my mind ever since i was a kid, and shortly after i got married we got it as a couple watch with my wife.
Excellent review! I owned the black dial, stainless steel and yellow gold on the black rubber strap. It's absolutely stunning; a "home run" like you stated.
wearing the black dial with yellow gold on the rubber strap. a thing of beauty and impeccable time keeping.
I want to buy the same variant, but I am in two minds if I should go for the white one or the glod/black.!!
Fantastic video, so well put across just placed my order this morning in LUNNS ,BELFAST, have to wait for the polar white dial but that wait is worth it when ever I get that call to collect it , once again Fantastic video
Just bought mine with the black dial, yellow gold with the black rubber strap. It's... fantastically beautiful
Great video. Your cadence and articulation lends to narrating and your storytelling is awesome. Ciao
Canada_watch... I thought the same thing.
An important and oft overlooked facet of making this type of content.
I watch *every* "I'D Guy" post for just this reason, same can be said for "Watchfinder".
One of the best omega reviews out there. Thx
I really like the monochromatic look! Great video as always!
Such a soothing voice.
Mine is the black dial. This is a watch that feels really right to me. Very glad to have it.
Gorgeous watch.
Funny running into you here, just got done watching your lighting video and then moved here.
@@christianamato4193 Cool!
Maybe you can use it as a subject for some Makro shoots with your Fuji 👍 owning one I can say go for it! Also fan of your channel!
Fuji x-t20 gang
Didn't expect the fuji camera man here
I just love this watch. The blue version will be my next purchase.
Just got the blue and I'm blown away. Incredible build and very beautiful. Looks absolutely amazing in real life. No pictures can do this justice. I traded GS Snowflake to get it and this is better. No kidding.
The Bond Seamaster was my first "real" watch and I still wear it today. Got the grey dial version of this last year and it is a beauty!
soubido what do you think of the new bracelet design?
I think the grey dial is the best one
I have this exact watch on metal bracelet. I couldn't be happier with it. In a way it has killed my desire to buy another watch, i just can't think of anything I would rather have. It just delivers so much. Coaxial escapement, metas certification, long service intervals and perfect looks.
* 1:08 he was only Bond 4 times. Craig did it 5 times.
Hello sir, at what interval the 8800 caliber needs a service? I heard 8-10 years for last Omega movements, am i right?
@@tricster4u I believe it's recommended for ten years. You can probably push that longer because it has a coaxial escapement and does not rely on lubrication so much. Things like seals might start to perish but as long as it keeps decent time then it should be fine
@@Mark-lj1dj Thanks for your comprehensive answear! One more question, my caliber 8800 changes date after midnight between 00 03 and 00 05, does that happens to yours too?
@@tricster4u no it changes within a few seconds or a minute of midnight i think
@@Mark-lj1dj Probably it changes over time, mine is 2020 having series 830...the older it gets, it changes a bit probably but i saw the standard is -10+10 mins at midnight, if goes past that it probably will need a service.
I own a Rolex Yacht Master 42, an IWC BP Perpetual Calendar and a few others, and I gotta say, this watch more than holds its own and is probably my favourite. It's so versatile and really stunning in every way. I bought it with the black rubber strap but recently put a white rubber strap on it and it's just a joy to wear. It's gotta be one of the best value buys out there. I really believe it stands head and shoulders above its direct competitors. I recently tried on a number of Tudor's and I think the Omega SM300M is a significancy better watch. Feels and wears much better and more luxurious.
Beautiful video!
You seriously like better than the YM?
Had the pleasure of trying this on, on the bracelet when a friend of a friend, and watch guy asked if I wanted to check it out. The white dial in person is unreal. I’m a major Rolex fan and not many omegas are nice looking imo, I do fancy the speedy and the new James Bond watch,, but this is more “affordable” and actually absolve at a reasonable price and is very well made. Hope to one day have one. That friend of a friend paid only $4k usd for that watch and it was brand new. Time to start saving
I finally picked one of these up within the last hour. It was the "one" that stuck out every time I passed by Omega boutique or even a dealer. Panerai has dominated my wrist and wanted to branch out to Omega. I love my Rolex lineup but they make me sick with this BS market they help create.
Props to Omega for making a white dial diver. I own a Rolex polar Explorer II and a Submariner. Unfortunately Rolex do not make a white dial diver. Often I find the white dial is much easier to read the time at a glance. It looks brighter, bolder and better in low light conditions, so I can imagine as a dive watch, white dials would be more legible.
The mid 2000’s reference 2254 with the big triangle at 12 is a highlight in this models history imo. I think we’ll see it become very collectible in the future.
SgtHail i don’t think so. The iconic one is the one worn in Casino Royale by craig, with the coaxial movement, still retaining the aluminium insert
I purchased the blue dial version to maintain the standard, and am glad I did. However, I think the white dial version has superior visibility of the time. I don't see the color red too well, especially when it is against a dark background, so the tip of my second hand is practically invisible. As is "Speedmaster" and "ZO2". But no problem with the white. Thanks for the video.
The white face has become my favorite. At first I was turned off by it but for some reason it has grown on me. Now I really want one. Definitely need to save up.
Just a reminder to get that savings account going! :)
Well done critical review hitting all the high points, and few low points of this watch. Honest, and straight forward.🇨🇭 🕒
I love the a week on the wrist videos.
This video was so relaxing 🙏🏻
Blue on blue is stunning!!! Great review!
Simply a beautiful watch, nicely presented. Thanks for your entertaining video.
I love the closeups of this pice of art.
Bye the way, I bought a black one for my incoming birthday.
Greetings from Germany!
Excellent review presentation.
This watch is visually stunning (especially this color scheme) and a fantastic timepiece. Very rugged, reliable, and accurate.
I love my Seamaster. Any part of it is just right. The gap between date wheel and date window make a nice shadow. The escape valve is a Seamaster trade-detail, give character to the watch.
Wear the watch on a rubber strap instead of a nato strap keeps it more sleek, and easier to see the rotor sweep from one angle to the other. Not included in the video is it’s fine and smooth rotating bazel from metal and ceramic. The bazel is easy to operate and you can turn it anti clockwise to time an activity.
If this is not enough, know that this watch is Metas certified, so no worries of inaccurate working.
Than one minor error, i miss a folding clasp, because my watches with a folding clasp are always a pleasure to turn on the wrist. Pin buckles bring wear on the strap. Again this would not be a problem for the rubber strap on the Omega, but is more a thing by leather straps.
This same beautiful model is in my next bucket list.
Absolutely brilliant review 👍
Beautiful Watch! Definitely my next purchase
The best iteration of the latest model by far.
I fell asleep during the intro and missed the video because Cole’s voice is so relaxing
Cole has one of the best voices for video presentation and podcasting too. #IMO great job on this video
I don’t understand why the HV and skeleton hands get hated on so much. They’ve always had BOTH features. If you subtract either of them it’s no longer a Seamaster Pro. 300m.
Dont mind it myself. Got the black version. Stunning piece. No queues, not overpriced as other alternatives. A lot of brands are starting to use skeletonized designs whether it's to reveal movement (no dial) or the hands. Audemar pique is also usibg sinilar design (where HV is) to rotate the inside besel
When wearing mine I forget the helium valve is there. Best looking watch out there
What a beauty, the best Swiss Diver on the market 😍👍🏻
My first luxury watch. The white dial is not as flashy like the others but you don‘t get tired of it.
My first timepiece!! Gorgeous!!
Nice review. This is the watch I’m planning to purchase in 2023. I agree with your pros and cons and I have another con that really troubles me. I believe the crystal has AR on the outer surface which will be susceptible to scratching. I wish it was optional. I would rather have AR only on the inside. In the balance though I’m really looking forward to this variant with the black bezel and white dial. It will be unique to my collection. I’m also planning to have both the silicone strap and the SS bracelet so I can enjoy both looks.
This watch is perfect, I parted with mine to get a blue side but a ceramic one would be cool
Cole and Stacy are my favorite reviewers. Cheers!
Is this a review or an ad?
Hello there, I appreciate your presentation - what is your definition of "high-low", and how does this particular model fit that definition?
This is in reference to (time stamp - 2:30 in your video).
Just bought this very one! Love it!!!
anyway, just curious, is the new omega seamaster bezel have some fraction of a mm "play" on the bezel? its like the bezel have a bit of give movement...really tiny side to side movement..is it normal? its like tiny bit loose but i know its not actually loose...and have small metallic sound when you tap the bezel...some people said that's not flaw as long as there is perfect alignment, but i don't know, what do you think? i was quite panic when i first received the watch.
I used to owned breitling avenger chrono 43 mm and i feel breitling bezel is rock solid and a bit stiff to turn (well sometimes too stiff to turn).
my first Omega was 20 yrs ago, seamaster blue face 300 quartz...bought it used and sold it as 2nd owner to a friend. Should have kept it but I wanted to get a Rolex GMT II 16710 coke dial. Somehow, I feel that I will be in search of a white face Omega in the future.
My favorite is one I bought year 2000. White dial, with everything else stainless steel, with polished bezel. I am surprised omega doesn’t have one still like it.
Just love that face, it's my fav out of all the new Seamaster 300m range
Thanks, looks great on the rubber.
Watch this video at 2024. Another classy review from hondikee. This is so far my favourite review besides rolex submarine 124060.
You sold me...Was between the Speedmaster moonwatch and the Seamaster. I have no doubt now that this is the watch. Thanks for the review 👍
What changed your mind? I'm having the same dilemma currently.
pete The SMP is a better everyday watch for me. The black dial SMP is really unique and I love it. I wanted a watch that I could go swimming in or to the beach, which you really shouldn’t do with the speed master. I love this watch....speedy will be next and probably my last high end watch
I bought both smp300 white on rubber and speedmaster sapphire on steel together at a discount. Have then now for over a month. Both fantastic. But I tell you, the Speedmaster is phenomenal. Seamaster for the beach etc.
@@tommiel6740 I have the seams steer and absolutely love it! Speedmaster is next on the list!
I have the very same watch along with a couple of aquaracers. I like them all but gotta say the omega with the white dial & black bezel looks awesome 👌
I am in love with this watch, the black bezel with white dial is very hard to get.
I personally like the HEV . Being a diver , i still would not really use it but it's nice that that option is there just in case . People say it is ugly and not needed , but the same could be said that desk divers don't need a dive watch to begin with . ( the HEV aesthetically just looks like those perpetual calendars or other watches with quick adjust pushers ........ which seem to not bother some of the same folks who don't like it).
Nice presentation of a nice watch
Greetings, are there any traces of white gold on the hands and indexes?
Thank you.
Hmmm...I’m a little undecided on this one still. And I’m a big Omega fan. Cool video 👍🏻
This felt like an AD, the narration reminds me of how Jony Ive describes an Apple product.
Welcome to Hodinkee on RUclips!
Wound Up - Watch Reviews :)
The music doesn't help.
I have the blue dial blue bezel in two-tone yellow gold. If you want to go rubber, get the strap with a folding clasp. It's so much easier to close and open than the pin buckle style. The rubber straps with pin buckle are difficult to undo because the rubber-on-rubber friction makes it difficult to undo the side of the strap with the holes. Did that make sense? I did my best.
Classy presentation and classy watch.
Superb Video.
This watch is art!
I already have this in blue dial..Now I want this one as well.
I can't decide which one i prefer out of the blue and the white?!
Blue
Omega did an outstanding job on this watch. Even with a rubber strap, you can dress it up. It gives off a nice casual/dress look even with the strap.
Yeah looks great as a dress watch 😂
Interesting piece. Regards.
I disagree with the assertion the date wheel is too recessed. I think the depth of recession conveys a continuity of design with the rest of the elements on the face of the dial by being able to cast its own shadow. This grants a multi-tiered looked to the face which in turn adds to the depth of design through the use of the casting of shadows -pretty impressive for such a slim profile in my opinion. In this way both the front and the back give the wearer the opportunity to peek a bit below the surface, if that makes sense.
I have the grey dial, never gets old
I love this piece!!
I’m interested in 2 watches the 2022 breitling super ocean or the omega Seamaster what the best option
Very well done video Cole, always loved your witty style.
Great review of the Great White! One of our favorite Omega Seamaster Diver 300M to come out from the newest iteration!
Any issues with the AR on the top of crystal?
The watch basic function is to tell time! How accurate is it? Have you tested your one?
Wondering which colour to go with the white here or straight up black.. Hmm
I have been thinking of selling my pelly lhd to get this watch. One of my first watches I loved was black and white like this one.
Just ordered mine!
Great watch. I’ll take the rubber strap instead of bracelet.
Absolute stunner. I will own one someday
