  • This iPhone X came in for Data Recovery. It is not smashed or wet. It just died out of nowhere. And I need to fix it enough to turn it on, so I can recover all the pics, videos, contacts, texts & notes out of it.

So we walk through step by step, how to diagnose the issue using the USB Meter, DC Power Supply & Multimeter to find that we have a PP_VDD_BOOST short.
So how do we fix this phone when it has a short to ground?
Why does the Boost IC get hot?
How do we use the Thermal Camera to find the short?
How do we measure for a short capacitor?
This is all covered in this video.
Let me know in the comments, what you learned from this video!

I learned that vdd main, vdd batt, vpc main are the top 3 culprits of an iPhone not booting up.

Thank you Jesse for another useful video! I am wondering why on iPhone 12 and above you should always reball the sandwich? Can’t we just carefully separate the board and that resolder it, leaving the factory solder? Yes, it takes higher temperatures but anyway. Repairing Apple devices is my hobby, I am a self-teaching guy. And I always wonder why iPhone 12+ boards should be reballed 🤔 Would be awesome if you share your experience about this. Thank you

It's not easy to reflow the sandwich solder balls when they're high temp solder
