    This makes sense that when the Canadian one was here a few years ago never landed with our one?what a photo shoot that would of been all 3 facing each other.

    So neat to see the description of the future runway. Reminds me of when I was a child, with my MatchBox cars, making roads in the dirt - with my imagination I went many places. As the opening scene of 12 O'Clock High, a veteran is standing at a "present day" field - and the camera focuses on the grass in the wind, and the color changes, and the camera moves back up and the man is younger, and the bombers are on the field. Looking at your map, I "see" Just Jane taxiing, doing the runup, and then the takeoff roll, and airborne. And of course, John is always a joy, sharing those million details that make the difference between success and failure in life -- similar to making proper southern biscuits (not your English cookies), or making smooth drywall installation in home construction. Wonderful.

      Well hopefully one day in the not too distant future we will see Just Jane rolling down the strip and once again seeing the ground fall away from her wheels....

    Have you ever thought of touching base with the Australian War Memorial (AWM) in Canberra, Australia, the home of 'G' for GEORGE Avro Lancaster, that served with the RAAF 460 Squadron, that flew over 90 missions over Europe. Your passion and dedication in showing the restoration of 'Just Jane', would be absolutely enjoyed and of interested, like my self, who have a family member who served during WWII. The AWM has over 15K of subscribes, and I would be surprised, if none of them would be interested in your brilliant channel and the presentations of your videos. It is just an idea to help support your channel and extending some more support here from Australia, to help NX611 fly again even sooner.

    Neville when my late FIL was working on the Lancaster Here in NZ I remember him telling me that they were supplied with all of her manuals and blue prints. There was only one problem in that they were all in French, She like Just Jane spent most of her operational life in the French Airforce and was retired in 1964 and gifted to NZ as an operational aircraft. My thought is that the aircraft still exists at MOTAT in Auckland, it is quite possible that they still have those records which could be of help to your team. I suggest that a contact could be quite helpful. Could you pass that on to the team. BTW Peter would have had a very good idea of what he was looking at as he engineered Lancaster's over Germany.

    Nev loved the information in the video, l always wondered about the run way. When l was last at the centre, it was mentioned that they might have to purchase the land across the road . Glad it had been sorted and makes more sence..

    The centre of the 17 foot radius can be determined by taking the upper and lower tangent point and then calculating the angular displacement as the chord length is known. This will give the centre position of the circle.

    Great update Nev. id looked up the site on google earth and thought that grass strip they taxi on is nowhere near long enough. I wondered if they would reopen that concrete runway visible to the north east. I would think taking off on grass requires a longer run as just like peddling a bike on grass takes more effort than on a hard surface. I expect on the big day that they strip back all superfluous weight to a minimum. What a day that will be!

      In days of yore we used to fly in to East Kirkby and land on the runway extension (outside the peri track) of 08/26, which was laid down in USAAF days and still had a good surface. We would be collected by the museum in their classic crew bus. Then the people who ran the extension as a motorcycle training area got a bit uppity, and our only option was to land on the concrete apron, which wasn't big enough for a Cessna 172 with 4 on board. The grass runway made it a feasible destination again.

      Hi Mark I don't believe that strip belongs to the Centre, also a public road runs past dividing the two pieces of land.

    Great video. Just a thought. If you have the top and bottom radii of the former, and the location of these, wouldn't the 17 feet radius simply be tangential? This would fix the location and lengths of the sides. Probably need Autocad or something similar.

    Would be awesome if they could use the east/west runway too, since half of that is still there by the looks of the sattellite images. Could actually turn it back into a functional airfield with 2 runways!!!

      I think that will be for the future roadsweeper. I am only a supporter of Just Jane nothing to do with management. But it sounds a good idea.

      @@nevillewheeldon1693 Yeah would be sweet, but land purchasing etc.... none of its cheap and aircraft are expensive to run. Would be a cool long term project though, turn it into a fully operation "museum" airfield, and invite other flying warbirds to base there. Be a nice alternative to them all being based at Duxford.
      Would need a massive financial input though... We can only dream :)

    I am surprised that they have not digitised the drawings for the Lanc so there available in dwg cad format. If they do happy to help out.

    This might sound like a stupid question but here it goes. Looking at the runway layout it runs parallel to one of the wartime era concrete runways. My question is: Why don't they just restore the existing runways?

    I’m confused. Is KB976 I different airframe? ( built in Canada at Milton )

      Hi Owen "Just Jane" LN611 is the one being restored to airworthy, KB976 rear fuselage will be restored to a safe standard fitted to "Just Jane" NX611,.,"Just Jane" will then be able to give taxi rides earning revenue. They will then restore "Just Jane" rear fuselage to airworthy condition re fit to the Lancaster. and return KB976 fuselage back to Doncaster (Yorkshire Air Museum). The idea is to keep "Just Jane" giving Taxi rides as long as possible to earn revenue to pay for the restoration.     02/20 was originally the longest hard runway, at 6000 ft, so not much more than it newer version. 08/26 and 13/31 were each 4200 ft. Lancs were built to cope with grass runways - look at those lovely fat tyres.
    The tree planting to the west of the proposed runway may help or hinder operations. They provide some shelter from the prevailing wind, but may increase turbulence which could be a big problem just after takeoff. Lancasters coped with much worse in their service lives.

      Hi Paul, this is the distance what required for safety 5500 feet of runway set down by CAA as Lancaster NX611 will be a civilian aircraft. BBMF Lancaster will come under MAA (Military Aviation Authority), they will most likely be the same distance.
