What a great video of Just Jane. 5years ago.my dad and our family were at Kirkby. I was born in Gainsborough cottage hospital my dad had a ride in the Lancaster, he was a rear gunner during the war, and he had enjoyed sitting in the Lancaster rear gun turret, relieving the times he had during the war. He was in 101 squadron at that time, he was last serving at Hemswell, where we lived near by. I remember very vividly the Lancasters taking off, when I was only 2years of age. Happy memories.
It would be super to see Just Jane flying along with The Battle of Britain Lancaster. If the Canadian one could come for a visit as well. Imagine the sight and sound!!!
Thanks so much Neville, these history lessons are great, please keep on doing them. They add a lot to the project of getting Just Jane back into the air.
Great view from the mid turret, pretty cool in b&w too. It'll be fantastic to see the tips installed. Sounds awesome on run ups. Good to see all the new trainees, give the "Old Hands" a break. Another beauty Neville! Many thanks!
Brilliant piece of filming. The firing up of those mighty Merlins is not only a sight to behold but a symphony of pleasure! My neighbours father was among the fortunate few from Bomber Command and was a radio operator on Lancasters.
Thank you for the aerodrome history they are good. The taxi experience was great, hope they put you I the rear turret next time. Good to see Lewis getting experience and Les passing on his knowledge. Another good video.
Thank you Neville for another great video. Watching the pilot go through the startup procedure I envisioned my Father doing the same at the ripe old age of 23. Thinking of the thoughts he and his crew might have headed out on another mission.
Hi Neville. Well this made a change . I hope it was you in the mid upper ! We could REALLY hear those Merlins ! As always some poignant reminders of the sacrifices made . Thanks Neville .
Thanks for another great video Neville. What a lucky soul riding in the MU position for that run too! I'm looking forward to being back up there at East Kirkby on 3rd June. I'll keep an eye out for you and will come and say hello if I see you! 😉
All just such good stuff eh!? Sends a shiver to me for the trust and camaraderie that existed then and still now between air and ground crews..so essential,!
One house owner refused to sell when Scampton was first created so the house remained inside the boundary. The problem was solved when an aircraft ran into it!
Fantastic footage Nev. was the mid upper turret removed (replaced by that fake they currently have on) to make access easier? Will they presumably restore the real turret at some point?
The original Martin 250 (as originally fitted to B.VIIs) was removed at Woodford when the aircraft was converted to the MR/SAR role. It arrived at East Kirkby in the 80s minus the turret. The cupola as fitted at the moment represents an FN50 as fitted to B.VII (Interim) Lancasters. The museum have a restored Martin 250 for display. Refitting a full Martin 250 would severely limit access.
hi Neville i love the videos that you are doing i have ask looking on google earth there does not seem to be enough run way for when she is finally airworthy ??
What voltage is the external power supply (what voltage the starter motors) ? Gorgeous video ! || For training, I would think a fast taxi with enough air to lift the tail would keep the crew fresh for handling characteristics of the air vehicle.
Hi Rob the Lancaster is in the fourth year of restoration on a 10 year programme, Runway ? the Lancaster requires 5500 ft the centre as 6000 ft North to South.

A very big shame that a historic station such as Scampton , is to close . Nice video Neville .

Thanks Neville for sharing good old UK's super tradition for Your histoy 🌷👍

Another excellent one Neville , I think you've got the hang of it .Thank you.

Thanks Nev, that was just great. "Jane" is certainly a fitting tribute to the Bomber Boys, a majestic old girl she is too.
Thanks Steamwally
Thank you for getting videos of me priming and mentioning me nev, means a lot 🙏🏼
Cheers Lewis.
Great stuff Neville, Thanks for the effort in visiting other RAF stations and your detailed history!
Cheers Paul.

@@lorenzoferrer6511 Thanks for your comments, we all must learn from this episode in History or all the sacrifice will be a waisted
Excellent Neville!

Hi Karen it came out of the blue, It was great. Didn't have time to set up the camcorder correctly .😊😂😃
It’s videos like this that keep me coming back to RUclips.
Well done.
thank you.
Thanks for sharing, sir!!
Well, I've heard of a clipped-wing Spitfire, now we have a clipped-wing Lanc! I wonder how she'd fly. Great video, as usual, Neville.
Cheers John.
Cheers for the video bro it was neat. Safe travels up your way.
I guess that airfield due for closure will be used for housing in the future.

Amazing work, guys - can't wait to see her fly!
About 6 more years Willy
Perfect , Thank you Neville
Cheers Geoffo O
Nice one, Nev. thanks.
Cheers Malcolm.
good video
Great stuff 👍
Cheers Mick.
One house owner refused to sell when Scampton was first created so the house remained inside the boundary. The problem was solved when an aircraft ran into it!
Thanks for that John.
That looked like Sam Worthington-Leese as the new pilot. He’s very much involved with the Hawker Typhoon rebuild going on at Airframe Assemblies.
It is Sam W-L.
No excuse. Hope you are OK Peter.
@@nevillewheeldon1693Pretty well, Neville! I hope you and Jean are too. Hope to see you at the Air Show if not before...
Square tips to ends of wings, don’t remember seeing that before.

@@BradleyWinder96 cheers Bradley, I assumed access restriction of a full turret had something to do with it
Good answer from Brad, Cheers Mark.
Put the kettle on!
😊
hi Neville i love the videos that you are doing i have ask looking on google earth there does not seem to be enough run way for when she is finally airworthy ??
Hi Tony, the grass runway will run North to South , left and 90 degrees to the hard runway which is not part of the Centres property.
@@nevillewheeldon1693 thanks Neville 😊
What is left to complete for first flight
What voltage is the external power supply (what voltage the starter motors) ? Gorgeous video ! || For training, I would think a fast taxi with enough air to lift the tail would keep the crew fresh for handling characteristics of the air vehicle.
The whole aircraft is 24v.
Hi HH, If I remember right it has to reach 50 mph then push the stick forward to lift the tail up.
Its a shame to see Scampton go, my first ever camp as a Cadet was at that airfield.
Lot of history there Garry.
When it’s ready to fly, have they got enough runway for it to take off ?
Hi Rob the Lancaster is in the fourth year of restoration on a 10 year programme, Runway ? the Lancaster requires 5500 ft the centre as 6000 ft North to South.
Hi good video was wondering how far off its first flight will be ??
Hi Chris, the Lancaster is 4.5 years into a10 year programme.
@@nevillewheeldon1693 Thanks for that, certainly looks like it’s ready to go!
🇦🇺👍
Cheers mate.😉
Guy Gibson did NOT command 83 squadron. He was also not a Squadron Leader in 1939.
Hi Hugh, my mistake sorry.
When is it due to fly
Not for another six (or so) years I assume (year four of a ten year restoration..).
Hi Malcolm, NP answer spot on.
Please don't crash the damn thing this time!
