- A frosty morning-a slightly worrying prospect for a parkrun tourist. Would the planned venue be too icy and get canceled? Would there be trouble on the journey?
Fortunately, all was fine. Colwick parkrun was on, and we arrived with plenty of time to spare. It was a good thing, too, as the day was set to be an epic one for Iona. After holding onto her PB since 2020, she was ready to finally break it! Cheered on by her Aunty Katherine, our special guest for the day, she tackled the course with determination. Ruth, who was volunteering, scanned our barcodes and ensured that Iona’s PB time was officially banked.
The parkrun was beautiful. Frosty grass crunched underfoot, and the lakes reflected the sky like mirrors, with swans gliding serenely by as we ran around them. A huge thanks to the volunteers, who braved the chilly morning to cheer us on. The tambourines and maracas some brought along added a delightful touch to the atmosphere!
After the run, we waited on tenterhooks for the SMS with Iona’s official time. Had she done it? Yes! She smashed her previous PB by 34 seconds, set at Isabel Trail. To celebrate, we joined the volunteer team at the excellent Daleside Café for breakfast. The food was fantastic-great taste, value, and the best fried bread I’ve had in ages!
With the morning's excitement behind us, we wondered what to do next. A quick search revealed a nearby gem: Green’s Windmill and Science Centre. Even better, it was free! We headed over to explore the story of George Green, a mathematical genius whose groundbreaking work paved the way for the invention of MRI scanning machines and continues to inspire modern scientists. Climbing the steep steps of the windmill, we enjoyed breathtaking views of Nottingham and learned about the fascinating milling process.
As the day wound to a close, we began our journey home, thankful for another lovely day of parkrun tourism.

About Ian, Iona and Family
===============================
Each week on this channel Ian (Dad) and Iona share our little adventure experiences, often joined by Ewan (Iona’s older brother) and Ruth (Mum) too.
Our weekends often start with parkrun. Iona is on a non-repeat parkrun tourism streak having now visited over 100 different places since she started parkrunning. But we don’t just do parkun and dash home, we love exploring the area and often use bikes and trains for our travels to keep our carbon footprint low and because it adds to the adventure too. When school holidays arrive, longer adventures are possible with Ewan and Iona both being keen cycle tourists and mountain climbers!
So if you like heading outdoors and your idea of a perfect weekend includes parkrun, climbing a mountain or exploring new places on two wheels then we would love to have you join us on our adventures.
We’d love it if you subscribed so you can follow our journey and hopefully be inspired to get out the door and have your own little adventures. Do like and leave comments on our videos too on questions you might have or ideas for places to explore or adventures to go on.
