Again, so funny, but Mama used to say the same thing about peeling a potato! Her mother always said that a sharp knife like the one you are using takes less potato off than a potato peeler! And I agree! My grandparents were depression era folks who taught me to conserve as much as possible and it stuck! We can be modern, as you are, but not forget what we were taught! Thanks Diane.

I lost my mom as well when young. I was 11. Mom had to work hard, dad had had a stroke at young age when I was about 2. I loved her cooking. And years after she died, people would still comment on her cooking. Wherever she worked, as a cook, the place had more business on days she worked, and slacked on her days off. I wanted her home with me all the time. I do remember things she made that I loved so much, but lost her before she could show me how to cook. So I would try to copy and cook it over time until one day , it tasted the way I remembered it. It is awful losing your mom when little, isn't it? My mom didn't have much, there were 6 of us and I remember bits of conversations of her mentioning Corning Ware or some other things that she thought were pretty but couldn't afford. To this day I will look around second hand stores and all the bowls of mine in my kitchen are vintage from the 60's, when I was growing up, but things that mom had from before I was born. I'm sitting in my air conditioned house feeling lazy and remembering lazy summer days when I was young. My mom didn't have AC on hot days when cooking. She was 49 when she died. Dad died little later at 51. I have it better, I guess, but I really needed my mom, especially with 4 kids and trying to learn how to cook.

Ma'am, I am the daughter if a farm girl from Kansas that goes back about 3 generations if not more. Mamma, taught me to boil the potatoes in their jacket with the eggs to save time and energy. Then to continue as you do, but according to our taste.
Lately I gave found out that the little egg cookers (cost about $10.00) are the best things for cooking eggs! From soft scrambled to hard cooked they can't be beat. The hard cooked eggs are easy to peel and I have never had 1 fail to come out oerfect. Since I am 75 years old it is a great help to be able to make things easier. I have also found out that you can cook eggs for a "fried" egg sandwich and it will also steam hot dogs. Best $10.00 I ever spent.
Thank you for allowing me to ramble.

(I should have figured this out since I hack a super simple basic rice cooker for all kinds of recipes thanks to the late great Roger Ebert book, "The Pot and How to Use It.") Okay, now I want to try "grilling" bologna or Canadian bacon on the hot plate of the egg cooker...I have two (🤣) so I guess one will now be part of my food test lab on the patio with the fire extinguisher ready.

You are so right about the Pound Cake. When I was growing up my Grandmother always made us a Pound Cake on Friday to have for the weekend. And she always made me one on Sunday afternoon to take back to college for the next week. I was never sure if I had so many friends on my dorm floor because of my personality, or because I always had pound cake.

A deviled egg trick I learned if you get too much mayo in your filling: sprinkle in some instant potato flakes. The potato flake will absorb the extra moisture and you can't taste it at all. Actually, I now intentionally use the potato flakes because the filling ends up so light and fluffy. I also like a little grated onion (very little!) and salad shrimp in my deviled eggs. Mom always sprinkles paprika on her eggs too.

My Mom added the ACV too! She’s put about 2-3T in after draining the potatoes so they absorbed it. I could eat her potato salad every day for the rest of my days. Nothing compares. She also added a little ACV (along with a tiny pinch of sugar) to her Deviled Eggs mixture. If you haven’t tried that, you’d likely love that too. That potato salad looks so delicious. It reminds me of how my mom used to make it. The only difference is she would boil whole russet potatoes with the skins and everything then she would let them cool and peel them. She also used six eggs like you did with about the same amount of potatoes. She would use best foods mayonnaise, and instead of dill she would put smoked paprika on top or just regular paprika. One additional item that she added was 2 teaspoons of sugar to the potato salad.

I like a little white vinegar in my deviled eggs and I use miracle whip in them for a little extra sweet+tart flavor. These look yummy.

I put a little apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar and a pinch of sugar in my deviled eggs. Then I put capers on top which we love. Thanks for the video. 🥚🥚🥚🥔🥔🥔

This is almost identical to my potato salad. I just like the potato chunks to be a bit bigger & I don't add relish. I mix the dill into it and top it with a sprinkle of paprika. Chopped eggs are a must!

Looks like a delicious classic potato Salad. I start with these ingredients and add pimiento, sometimes I'll add some ranch dressing or sour cream and sometimes I'll use chopped green pepper instead of celery. Also, at times I'll use the small red potatoes and leave the skin on, then of course I always sprinkle paprika over the top before serving.

This is mostly identical to how I make potato salad. Try adding some celery salt. It will kick it up about 10 levels!

Love the potato salad done just about this way although we like to use a whole onion and a bit more celery. Also, we make it 1 to 2 days ahead because the onions will flavor the potatoes and ingredients more pronounced plus those added onions and celery give it a nice crunch when served very COLD.
Love the deviled eggs "grass" idea for the serving dish. Always a favorite treat when served very COLD as well. Sometimes its nice with home cooked crisp bacon bits or green chives on top !

The only difference in my potato salad is I add a little jar of the red pimentos drained. No pickles in my stuffed eggs either !! My granddaughter will eat five or six !! Mother sprinkled hers with paprika !! Especially at Christmas !! Love the idea of the shredded lettuce for nest !!

My mother always boiled her potatoes whole with the peels on, then peeled them once cool and chopped. Boiling them that way seems to help keep them from getting mushy. Of course unless you forget about them while they’re cooking! 😂

Your potato salad and deviled eggs just like Mama did. The only difference is that we used 1/2 Miracle Whip and 1/2 Mayo- but then again, we didn’t have Dukes Mayo where I grew up. . We always do 1/2 the deviled eggs w/o the pickle and 1/2 with. Some times I just use a touch of dill pickle juice instead of the actual pickle or relish. This way pickle-haters don’t even know it’s there! I also add a dash of paprika in the yolk mixture as well as on top. At our house the left over deviled eggs get mashed egg salad the next day. It’s the best!
