If you don't like sweet pickles, Mt Olive also makes a dill relish. It's what I use because we can't stand sweet pickles. I also will add pickled jalapeño relish sometimes for a kick

Perfect German potato salad! My dad made it exactly the same! He got that recipe from his grandmother who got it from her grandmother in the 1800’s. I love seeing it stay the same, all the way from 1800’s Germany!
I always use sweet relish, for all these types of salads and deviled eggs. I also put in a bit of lemon juice, only use yellow mustard. I do the same dressing for macaroni salad EXCEPT I don't add salt. I put in Old Bay (which has a lot of salt) to taste and add shrimp to it. Sometimes just the little salad shrimp other times I steam shrimp and cut it up. So good! My family balks at celery, so I dice up carrots, the color is great.

I use regular mustard, mayonaise, shallots for color instead of red onion, green onion, yellow onion,celery,sweet relish and a little dill relish,eggs,potatoes and seasoning that's how I was taught. My family always requests my potato salad because it tastes like Grandma's. I will try Dejon mustard next time with yellow mustard
My great grandma taught me one almost identical to yours minus the 3 mustards. I’ll definitely try that, BUT, she taught me use both sweet relish and cut up dill pickles. It’s a balance and it’s delicious and I don’t like sweet pickles but it works!

I was wondering why my potato salad didn't hit like my Grandma's. Turns out I wasn't putting eggs in it. I missed that part. I learned to cut my eggs in my palm from her, even diced them in the palm of my hand. Old school cooking.❤
Nice mix on the mustard! I add two parts sugar to one part vinegar to that mix. I get the egg yokes out first and mash them with a fork before adding the other ingredients, it is easier to get them mashed when they are dry. Watching you mix this up makes me hungry!

It might be a little bit too much mustard for us. Some people do not like any mustard in their potato salad at all. That's how my family raised me. However, I do like to put a little mustard in it now. And good deviled eggs always have a little mustard in them
I feel you on the online thing. I grew up in the SF Bay Area. G MA used del Monte sweet pickels in her potatoe salad and I can't get those in Texas unless I order em. I used Mt olive and it just tasted off. You gotta use what G MA used to get that taste you remember as a kid. Much love and blessings I'm finna make this.

I love your recipe & technique, plan to follow it to the letter. However, I learned that adding a table spoon of apple cider vinegar & a little sugar gives it a very nice tang. Then my own personal touch is to garnish the top with more egg slices, green olives & paprika.
I mixdill and sweet pickle relish to mine. Need to look for those pickles. Also never thought about celery. Also a good healthy shot of horse radish mayo for a little extra kick

My grandma used baked potatoes and celery salt and mashed the egg yolks first before the mayonnaise for just a few tweaks but otherwise the same as your great yummy recipe.
The kids and I used to just do sweet relish and chop up extra dill pickles so we could get the sweet flavor of that, but more texture of dill pickles cause we like them more. Other than that we both make our potato salad very similar to my own Grandma, learned from the best 😊
We must have the same grandma!. only thing I do different is skip the frenches mustard, add green peppers and use my homemade bread and butter pickle cubes. I do cut my potatoes different but our end result looked identical. I'm told it's an excellent potato salad.

Ok AB - I see you with this recipe! I love some good tasting potato salad for sure! When I make mine, I use celery seed but I may try to use the small dice way for the celery like you do. We make Potato Salad the same way except I use Dill and you use Red Onions. I’ve been making it the way at least 55 yrs. I learnt it from my Great Grandmother.
Yup, that's how it's done. 2 days in the fridge. I'm also going with assorted toppings (crumbled bacon, crushed olives, diced bell pepper, French fried onions) on the side for other folks.

I add some shredded carrots to my potato salad. Adds extra flavor and more color
