I've never had so much fun playing a GT game as playing Gran Turismo 5 online! It was an incredible experience racing against other players around the world in low-tier PP cars where it was all about talent than BHP! I was so gutted when they cut the online server.
This. It was amazing! Last year I busted out my PS3 and played a ton of 5. Sadly the online is dead but my roommate and I would just go crazy racing each other's weird matchups! Eventually we managed to get and modify our real life cars! Such a fun game, has stood the test of time!
Also this! Most fun online in 5 and 6 online for me were the 500pp races. You'd see all sorts of utterly crazy vehicles in that sort of bracket, from new sports cars, evos/imprezas to massively lightened hardcore tuned 90s hatchbacks and despite how different everyone's vehicles were the racing would always be incredibly tight. Best race I had was with my "lethal joke car" Peugeot against a 90s Civic, Vauxhall VX220, and a BMW 330i, all completely wheel to wheel for the entire 10 laps of Deep Forest. Another car from those races I loved was my S-Type Jaaaaaaag which was utterly brutal.
I never understood why ppl put GT3 over GT4 tbh. I felt like GT4 was what everyone told me GT3. I think you nailed it by saying GT4 was PS2 version of GT2 for the PS1
GT1 did the used cars better. If you went looking for a particular car, it would probably be there, just maybe in a different color and not at the lowest price.
The formula cars in Gran Turismo 3 made me fall in love with the franchise even more especially in the Formula GT Cup. It’s when I had a better feeling what racing was like.
Gran Turismo 1 was WAY above average at its time of release ! 180 licenced cars in a racing game was mental in 1996/1997, no other racing game even came close ( Need for Speed II had what, 8 cars? 10?). The "realism" of physics was mindblowing compared to everything out there. Also the amount of licence tests and racing leagues was huge compared to all other Arcade oriented racing games in the 90's. I'm not denying that all the GT titles after GT 1 had more content and improved in almost every aspect and are therefor "better" from today's perspective, but at the time of it's release GT1 certainly wasn't just "above average". You are probably too young to have experienced the release yourself ( I was born in the early 80's and if the internet is to be believed you were in the mid 90's), so it's not your fault, but imo you're wrong nevertheless...
Yes GT1 was amazing. I was 6 yrs old when it came out and I knew this. At the time I remember thinking all the best racing games were at the arcade or on the ferry we would take, then gt1 came out and I would very much rather play gt1 then the arcade racing sim's. It was the most ahead of its time in all of the racing games.
Yeah. Right off the bat its clear he didn't play the game at release like I did. The Original GT blew out all the competition. It had FAR MORE content than any racing game on consoles. And was one of the best selling ps1 games ever. Seriously, the maker of the video needs to play some of gran turismos competition from the 1995 to 1997 era.
GT4 actually had decent sounds too in my opinion. I remember european exotics and JDM cars having a very memorable and unique sound to them. Also cars like the Caddy CIEN had unique and extreme sounds to them.
Something no one seems to talk about with GT5 is the trading aspect with used cars (early in the game). Used cars were decently rare, and so trading with people was HUGE.
Getting a Formula GT became almost impossible after the servers were shut down. Now you either have to hope that you get it instead of the 2 Ferrari F1 cars from the Level 40 ticket or you have to wait for it to spawn in the used cars dealership and hope that you have enough money to buy it
I love how Gran Turismo 3's graphics still make people's jaws drop 20 years later. I remember seeing it for the first time and being amazed at the heat waves coming from the track, the sparks flying from under the cars, the banners and flags flapping in the wind, and everything else. It absolutely blew my mind as a kid and it's THE best looking early PS2 game, hands down
I remember commenting to a friend about the CGI cars in GT2 and said imagine a GT game with in game cars that looked that good and my friend said no way the CGI versions are rendered on silicon graphics computers that cost S10,000 a piece, and if they do it will take a decade then came the PS2 and GT3 and the first thing I did was set up my TV next to my parents TV so we could compare them and invited my friend over and I remember him waiting for me to remind him of his comments , instead I said I need to apologise and you were right they can't make the in game cars look as good as those CGI models , he looked at the tv screens and back at me as if I had lost it , then I handed him a T shirt I had got printed with the GT3 cover silk screened on and underneath SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER THAN SILICON GRAPHICS CGI. he had a great response though the next time he came over he was wearing the same T shirt under a jacket and just as he was leaving with his back to me he took off the jacket and on the back of the T shirt was printed SAYING SO IS MUCH FUCKING EASIER THAN MAKING A CRAPPY T SHIRT but underneath in small print was but not as much fucking fun
No offline campaign in gt sport really bummed me out... and GT4 Was my first gt game and my all time favorite racing sim game... I miss the Toyota Minolta and GT one
Yeah I'd definitely rate that like an f tier, online can be fun but its not that popular and offline is horrendous. The others are like an A tier atleast I'd say.
@@tilburg8683 GT Sport is probably the best GT just because it forces you to drive not only fast (license tests like old GTs) but also somewhat fairly (you can't cut to win like the old ones). S tier just for that, GT has always been about car culture, not only driving.
You hit the nail on the head with these GT ratings. GT2 and GT4 were my childhood and I remember being absolutely floored by these games, the nostalgia and how epic they were. GT5 was great, not perfect, but so many good times and the introduction to the online community.
He is wrong about gt1 though. For that time 11 tracks was ok, in fact several games of that era had much less than that (for comparison, need for speed 2 had 7 tracks and nfs3 had 9), and 180 cars was A LOT. Literally no other racing game in 1997/98 had that many vehicles.
Despite GT6 being one of my favorites, I agree with how forgettable it was. The best thing about GT6 was that it was essentially what GT5 should've been in the first place in terms of being polished and complete. GT6 fixed a lot of what was wrong with GT5, such as reducing the number of duplicate cars, making licenses more relevant again, and overall reduce the bugs that plagued GT5. However, its biggest fault was that it never brought anything really new to the table.
And being released on the PS3 imo, if it was a launch title for the PS4 it would have been a little more memorable, but I can't complain much because I have a PS3 and not a PS4 lol
Gt6 is the opposite of forgettable, the beautiful musics are always in my head, i remember playing split screen with my friend, i still have the replays, and just everything feels good in that game, upgrading, getting money, doing championships and so on...
@@Davidee_631 Forgettable in the sense that "it just sort of happend" (and on a bad moment), if you ask me, GT6 is my favourite GT game tbh along with 4, but if someone told me that GT6 is forgettable even if it is my favourite game in the series I would have to agree
@@Davidee_631 Don't take the word "forgettable" literally. In this sense, it was used to emphasize the fact that GT6 did not offer much to distinguish itself from other GT games. As you've said, you loved GT6 for the music, the split screem games, the replays and tracks, etc. Did you notice that all of the things you listed were also available in other recent GT games as well. GT6 was a great game and for you and I, it would be cherished as a source of great memories. However, we have to consider its place amidst all the other GT games and the collective feedback from all other fans. GT6 was great, but never brought any big leaps in the franchise. Think of it like the Lancer Evo 5. The Evo 5 was definitely a great car, better than its predecessor, but people remember the Evo 3 and 4 just a bit more.
I loved play that game back in the day, but I played it again via emulator and I don't like how slow it feels, it feels slower than the NFS PSP games, plus no having a conventional carreer mode
At the time of its release, it was the best racing game I played in my PSP. I was just 9 yrs old then but I just loved the fact that it is a driving simulator. I became sick of arcade-like style of racing games so I was really fascinated when I found GT.
At least he didn’t review GT HD. Apart from visuals, which I personally think is the best of all the GT’s on PS3, it was a shite game. But it was free at the time.
Gran Turismo 2 was the entry in the series that I played the most by far. There was an entire summer for me where it was legitimately the only game in my PlayStation, summer of 2001 if im not mistaken. I'll never forget the long nights spent working to beat certain races, particularly the endurance races, to either rack up the credits or to unlock the rare cars. I still occasionally play the game on an emulator every so often. Nostalgia goggles? Sure, today I'm wearing them, but when that game came out it was really that god damn good.

You'd be surprised, there's alot of races in gt2 that don't enforce the cars. You can use any car in the muscle car cup, you can use any car in the historic car event, same with 80s car cup. It does enforce stuff like NA events, turbo events, FF, AWD and MR events but definitely lots of races that pretty much only have HP limits

GT5 was my first GT and I loved it minus those black interiors. GT6 was dropped as soon as I picked it up, it was way too familiar. GTSport since release is still played by me today thanks to the competitive online environment. I absolutely love GTSport as I find mp in racers more compelling than single player content these days. AI can never replace living and breathing competition.
Gran Turismo 4 is my favorite PS2 game of all time, easy SSSSSSSSSS tier. I'm also happy since a lot of the JDM cars in that game that I raced as a child are either becoming legal to import, or are now legal to import
Gran turismo 5 is the best by far, I love it so much and still play till this day. Far out I love the used car dealership, always trying to get the 2J Race Car and I finally got it. It was so beautiful. The soundtrack was just amazing. The songs are sick as and just so nostalgic and it’s just so sick
Woah woah woah...little gripe here about the Gran Turismo 1 ranking and the fact that it got a C for content. Compared to other racing games at the time, 180 cars in a game was mind blowing. Even the amount of tracks available to race on was great. I get that compared to later titles the content is substandard, but at the time it was ground breaking. I get the sense that you weren't old enough to experience it when it originally came out.
Grand Turismo 1 was a total game-changer, we used to watch every reply just because they looked so good, plus the idea of being able to buy 2nd hand cars and do them up was mind-blowing..
Gt4 was the best racing game of it's generation. I spent so much time playing it as a child and still feel to this day that i nearly touched the surface of the game content. Soundtrack was nice aswell and the graphics were so good for the time
Gt4 was the first game that i ever played. It was at my uncle’s place and i played for hours and hours. This is the game that got me hooked on games in general and to this day i think its a beautiful game and peak ps2
Gt2 has a special place in my heart. Gt5 I spent a tonne of time playing and met lots of friends online. Amazing times playing gt5. Got sport is the best racing game I’ve played online. Had the best races even when in the middle of the pack or at the back even.
Respect, man. I like how you rated them at “release”. I just started playing sport (I know), so I haven’t delved into the finer aspects of the game. It’s fun, though. Good list, your opinions. People won’t like them, but that’s what is good about opinions - they’re your own.
Sport for me is absolute crap because it’s too easy in terms of the career building aspect. The thing I love about earlier GTs was the grind of working your way up from a humble Civic to a Touring car or Le Mans car
I miss the olden days of racing games Where people didn't drive like idiots Example: smashing instead of breaking on turns some even try to push you off track on straights
GT5 is the GOAT. That used car dealership was dope and the cars for sale rotates on a daily basis so it was kinda like a FOMO situation. If you wanted to get a specific vehicle you either had the funds or you were gonna strap in and grind. It could be Tuesday morning and you may not see that specific car model again until Friday evening but in a different color if it wasn’t a special team based model 😎. The soundtrack is also 🔥
Good video! I can feel your enthusiasm for GT2! That title is still part of the best ones to this day! So many cars and tracks that never came back after GT2... Happy New Year 2021!
Im gonna be in the minority and say that GT3 is my favorite in the series and one of my all time favorite games as well. I felt like it had the right amount of cars that you could actually race and not some that were really gimmicky like the Patent Wagon or the Model T in 4. The soundtrack introduced me to alot of the music I listen to today, simulation mode can be cheesed through but that's what made me loved it for the easy money you can make when you race a Oreca Viper against some Daihatsu's,it was comedic to me.
When I first played GT2 i was a huge fan of american muscle cars and I really didnt have much interests in the Japanese imports (ohhh how GT2 broke me of that bias, and im thankful for it) so i bought the only used RX7 you can get with the starting credits, the Infini III i think it was (its been 20 years ago lol) and I used that to grind the cash til i could buy the Dodge Charger at which point i then used it to bully k cars on Tahiti Road. Such was the mind of a 12 year old.
I think 4 was better, because the soundtrack was epic, and because it moved the genre on so much with the introduction of the Nurburgring (also I love the Ford GT-R off the intro!) I do agree some of the cars on 4 are pointless though, and by no means do I think GT3 was a bad game
BRO YESSSS I SPENT HOURS ON GT3 to this day it is one of my fav games of all time. I remember always thinking how the graphics for that game were soooo damn ahead of their time
the best thing about gt series is the licenses the cars locked behind winning certain events and the events themselves having certain car requirements which is what i love about this franchise
GT4&5 was definitely my favorites. GT3 was also good but the rally tracks were so fun. It's a shame they never bring back these tracks like new york, Seattle and many more.
I have so many memories of playing GT4 with my dad, that game kept us invested for years and we still never fully completed it. Iirc the highest completion% we got to was 95%
I laughed when he said it lacked content. For 1998 no other game on the Playstafiom had more cars and the track amounts were also above average the game got plenty of perfect scores a very well received way cut above average game period.
You can tell he wasn't around then, the excessive car list was the main argue point we had against N64 players in the schoolyard "But Cawntent bro...it can't be GOATed as it's not lit therefore can't be fire bro"
For me gt3 will always have a good place in my heart I loved being the only one in my family to be able to control and race in rally in the Corolla and blast fast in the gts viper then getting bored and Turing around and ramming into the other cars and down to the music from the menu to racing like the snoop dogg one
Well... apart from GT2, the one that I most like is the GT from PSP. Despite the GT from PSP does not have a career mode, it has an amazing fisics and a great camera's movement. I really like both games.
Yup, GT4 is the best game in the series. Playing it with one of Logitech's GT wheels put it on another level. It also supported 1080i (on the PS2!). It was an amazing game and still holds up today.
My personal opinion: GT1: 7.5 GT2: 9 GT3: 8 GT4: 9.5 GT5: 9 GT6: 8 GT sport: 7at launch, after all the updates 8.5 GT7: considering how much I waited (and I’m still waiting) I hope at least 10
I agree. You’re pretty on point in my opinion…GT1 & GT3 just didn’t have enough cars and tracks for me to put it on the same level as both GT2, GT4 and even to a lesser degree GT5…I definitely believe Gran Turismo 2 and Gran Turismo 4 were the greatest GT games off the franchise.
Get ready they are now saying it's a GT sport reskin in terms of graphics, I noticed the graphics in GT7 looks very similar to GT sport. Until I saw the UI during gameplay not menu gameplay, it was the same, and then I saw it, it legit is a graphical reskin, it's GT sport upscaled... And to think I was excited
Ranking is spot on. Pound for pound gt2 with the cars, tracks and the amazing soundtrack with top hits i put as number one. Gt4 second easily overall. I didnt find gt4 to have as much top tier songs but the graphics, cars and tracks rivaled gt2 for what it had at the time. I mean you could get 1080i graphics on a ps2 from that game. Thats crazy. Most people had tube tvs at that time. Anyway, for gt4 to beat gt2 it would have to atleast have as good a soundtrack and much more cars. "Only" 70 more then a game on an older system. Still close and these two are complete. No dlc. No extra money you have to spend. I've seen nothing remotely close to the value you got from these two games compared to the rest. If they want to beat gt2 in the future it needs around 1500 plus cars, s tier soundtrack and above all else no microtransactions or dlc. Just free updates.
@@joshuaxiong8377 yeah, although I've been playing through gt4 without doing that. It's not too hard as long as you can do endurance events and get the minolta
GT4 was literally my most nostalgic memory of my childhood. English is not my first language so all I had to do was to select random buttons until I figured out the right pattern to enter a race and I remember vividly choosing the cars by best logo cuz I had no idea 😂 I which we can turn back time man!
GT 2 was my favorite! I remember when I finally completed everything and learned you can only get like 98.5% completion on your resume for some reason.
the first GT was beautiful. it was the best driving game of all time when it came out. Before this you had Virtua Racer and Ridge Racer. GT blew them both out of the water.
"It being the lowest on this list is a good thing, The fact that i can say the first game is the lowest ranked game on this list, means that every other sucessor has Succeded in their job, at being better than their predecessors" (cries in every xbox one title of Forza)
At the time Gran Turismo 1 was the top game. That content was above average by those days standards and the graphics were astonishing to the layman. The second one was the best one. Hands down. Thanks for the vid
On GT4: I felt this was certainly the magnum opus of the franchise. I agree with basically everything you said about it, but for gameplay I'd have to drop it down to an S, because there were quite a few bugs compared to it's predecessors. Off the top of my head, I can't recall most of them. It was a long time ago, but I remember in split screen, player 2 could not use nitrous while player 1 could. Nothing really game-breaking though and that entry was just insanely great! On GT5: I wasn't really on board with Prologue and skipped it. I didn't own a PS3 at that time anyway. I played GT5 and for me this was the breaking point. We waited what, almost 7 freakin' years since GT4? Still no real headway in physics improvement either. No fish-tailing, for example, left a very dated feeling. MOST of the cars in the game were [poorly] upscaled renders from GT4, with only a minority being fully HD with cockpit views. To me, this was completely unacceptable for that time. And it had the audacity to boast about car selection while having something like 17 RX-7 variants and something like 19 Skyline variants, iirc, most of which fell into the 'lazy upscale' category. I enjoyed the track creation a bit, but other than that, GT5 was the game that broke me off of the franchise completely. I jumped ship and never really looked back at Gran Turismo since, unfortunately. That being said, I hope Gran Turismo 7 will be a new amazing entry!
For me, these games mark timepoints in my life. GT1 in high school; i remember sitting in the corner at a party playing with a Viper GTS while other kids were making friends and being their best selves. GT3 was the go-to in college while staying with friends who could afford consoles. GT4 i remember being the first game after I graduated college and had money for a TV and a PS2. I played the snot out of this one. GT5 was just before getting married, and I had a lot of time to play online and make new friends. GT6 came at a time when I now had a family and not much time to play, so it doesn't mean much to me.
I played GT1 and GT2 a little bit when I was very young on my uncle's original PlayStation. I remember a Mitsubishi FTO in GT1 tuned to >900 horsepower that would accelerate from 0-200kph in the blink of an eye, take forever to go from 200-300kph, then go like a rocket from 300-400kph. Fast forward a few years to when I was switching over from Xbox to Sony gang, and I remember waiting about 3 years for GT5 to finally come out. It sat in a pile after I got it for probably 18 months without me really playing it much, and then I totally fell in love with it. Plenty of memories: Slipstreaming down the back straight at the Nurburgring in the Polo Cup. A Veyron tuned to 1,400bhp that would burn its tires out within one lap. Winning at Indy in the Zonda R with six cars less than 0.2 seconds behind. Buying every supercar and hypercar I could find and tuning them to the max when I hit the max 20 million credits. My favourite car in maybe any racing game ever, the MINOLTA Toyota 88C-V '89. Completing all the B-Spec events by using that Red Bull X2010 thing for my AI drivers :)
Moral of the story: if polyphony launches a not-so-good Gran Turismo, the next one will be amazing

Gt40: I'm about to ends this mans whole career
Agreed
I got better idea. Gold every license test in under than 10 attempts (restart included). If more is taken, you delet save
Is that shingo?
I agree, GT had way more content than any other previously released racer
Hence the name, the real driving simulator
frfr 1 and two are my favorite back on ps1 days
No. Just, no. The sound in GT4 is something we don't talk about. If we ignore it, it is the greatest racing game ever made.

Something no one seems to talk about with GT5 is the trading aspect with used cars (early in the game). Used cars were decently rare, and so trading with people was HUGE.
It would have saved me a year amd a half of looking for the formula one car.

GT5 is my favorite, the music and sound details makes the game so fun to play.
@@SprunkCovers still can't personally agree but it's your opinion
@@Davidee_631 Don't take the word "forgettable" literally. In this sense, it was used to emphasize the fact that GT6 did not offer much to distinguish itself from other GT games.

There was an entire summer for me where it was legitimately the only game in my PlayStation, summer of 2001 if im not mistaken. I'll never forget the long nights spent working to beat certain races, particularly the endurance races, to either rack up the credits or to unlock the rare cars.

GT5 is good, but nothing beats GT4
Woah woah woah...little gripe here about the Gran Turismo 1 ranking and the fact that it got a C for content. Compared to other racing games at the time, 180 cars in a game was mind blowing. Even the amount of tracks available to race on was great. I get that compared to later titles the content is substandard, but at the time it was ground breaking. I get the sense that you weren't old enough to experience it when it originally came out.

Yeah sounds pretty familiar haha, I'm pumped for the new one though
Plenty of memories:
Slipstreaming down the back straight at the Nurburgring in the Polo Cup.
A Veyron tuned to 1,400bhp that would burn its tires out within one lap.
