The worst of all rn is GT1, then GT3, then GT sport, then GT2, then GT6, then GT5 then GT7 and the best GT4. Why? GT1: not too much content, no multiplayer. GT3: same thing and bad rubberbanding system, can be played on emulator on PC or smartphone. GT sport: slowly dying, not much content compared to others, but an okay amount, has multiplayer. GT2: tons of content but no multiplayer. GT6: huge amount od cars and tracks, sadly way too easy licence tests, short career mode and no revieved multiplayer yet. GT5: The longest game of all GT games(needs more than 550h to beat the whole game, and around 400h to do it without B spec, lots of cars(sadly most of them are in the used car dealership, some of them appear only after day 1500, for example Formula GT) and many tracks, multiplayer works with a relatively simple mod, you can make hybrid(modded) cars. GT7: the most alive game of them as it is the newest one (multiplayer), not huge amount of content but for sure doesnt lack content, most detailed car customization(body kits and engine swaps), sadly pretty short career mode from what I heard. GT4: multiplayer, tons of cars, tons of tracks, tons of events, not the longest game of all but for sure amount of content is great, the easiest one to be set up on emulator on PC or a smartphone, long career mode.

I suspect the real reason why they tremendously scaled down the endurance races is that Gran Turismo 5 cooked a ton of PS3s and Sony was so concerned about replacing thousands of motherboards that they forced PD to do it.
And I think 24h endurance races are kinda too far to be honest, it only makes them more boring and grindier, on a real life where there are physical concerns alongside racing strategies is understandable, on a game you can pause anytime if you are feeling tired or hungry for example. I think 3h is the perfect lenght to feel like an endurance test but not being too far just for the sake of it.
@@hydro5168 but even on the PS2 it caused issues. The console itself was not designed to run on higher temps as the PS3 but even then, the red clock of death on long endurances was very common. I discovered that the issue is not caused by data corruption or high temps though, but because of a issue in the disc reader design. If you pause for a bit too long on an endurance race, the music will eventually stop and if this happens, it is certain that a red clock awaits you at the end of the race. What I think is that, if you pause for a bit then resume the endurance, the game will load entirely from RAM and if you finish it, the disc drive enters on a dormant stage and it doesnt wake up when the rest of the game needs to be loaded, so the red clock appears. If you keep the game running without stopping the music, the drive never enters into sleep and you can finish the race fine. To do this, never pause and if you need a break, use B-Spec.
I remember that at launch, GT5 had this long endurances and only after some updates they added the option to save inside the race because of these complaints, since unlike GT4, you cant use B-Spec to alleviate the console and the boredom from the player.
I think the ending statement is a big part of why I found myself uninterested in GT Sport. The giant variety of cars and events in previous GT games keep things so fresh for dozens, if not hundreds of hours of playtime. Just driving high end sports cars and race cars gets tiring. Unfortunately, the PC driving sim space hasn't ever really had a game like GT either. As much as I enjoy Assetto Corsa, it just doesn't have the same career progression and variety to keep me interested for very long. Here's hoping GT7 at least has some of this magic.
I read something recently in an interview with Kazunori-san about the fan base and making the new game to reflect said fan base. He mentioned that most of the younger fans don’t understand mechanical technicalities, and car culture has changed a lot in 15-20 years. Most young people don’t know what port and polishing is, what a stroker kit is, or what a billeted crankshaft is. However why should those of us who have enjoyed this series from day dot, and helped make it grow into the franchise it is today, have to suffer for the shortcomings of others? Why not insure these younger millennials and Gen Z’ers what these things are? To maybe expand their knowledge about cars, racing and modifying, and encourage them to expand their horizons? Without feeling the need to constrain and over simplify the game? I certainly hope that GT will not be dumbed down in future releases, simplification so to cater for a lowest common denominator will never lead to a worthwhile product, nor a standout fan base which will feel attached to the “experience” of it.
@@Marcoz588 I first started playing GT as a kid, and I didn't know what port polishing is either. Did that stop me from using it in Gran Turismo 3? No, because as a dumb kid, I saw the horsepower goes up when you buy it, so I bought it. I wish game designers would stop assuming kids and new players are completely allergic to things they're not already comfortable with.
I had to sell my gaming rig to fund car parts, crashed the car anyway and now all I've got at home is my PS3. Been running Nurburgring time trials on GT5 every night and having a blast. Thanks for convincing me to give 6 another go, I'm grinding it tonight!

I sold my 7700k + 1080Ti setup to go full bolt ons on my Mazdaspeed 6 and crashed it a fortnight later at low speed cause I had a break up and wasn't thinking straight while driving. Now I'm doing the smash repair myself (all the PC funds went to new body parts 😢) and lost my job in the process. Drivers side frame rail moved an inch and I'm gonna pull it back with ratchet straps cause I'm too poor to do anything else. Shit is hard but this game is keeping my mind off it all. @@jordonpollock1550 mega rip. I'm always pitying myself because I have a shitty 1050 laptop but having no pc at all must suck. Well at least you're safe and have Gran Turismo!
I personally liked GT6, but it didn’t feel like a brand new Gran Turismo but rather a huge update to GT5, call it GT5.5. The cars handling were much more improved giving cars more character and realism but it lacked the soul of GT5.
@@f1fan3000 And car collecting, GT6 had a bit more cars 1200 compared to around 1100, but it felt emptier, due to them being acccesible way too easily compared to GT5 where most of cars were in used car dealership, where they appered randomly, making it way more engaging to collect them.
This is honestly one of my favorite GT games in the series. And I'm not just saying that for the sake of having a different opinion, I loved the amount of content when I first played it in 2013. It still doesn't beat GT4 for me, but it's a great game nonetheless.
Thing is that it is a *bad Gran Turismo game* but a *good racing game* . The content was great. For instance: basically no PS3 game had GT3 cars except Shift 2 I think. Also the tracklist was unique: Willow Springs, Bathurst, Nordschleife... which weren't common tracks on the PS3 at the time. The "career mode" was boring though... + no endurance races (then why having dozens of LMP cars and GTs if their purpose isn't fulfilled?)
Nah, I miss the classic structure when you would beat an event and the prize car would invariably lead you into something else. Hopping from car to car without spending credits until you had absolutely nowhere else to go. Still, I should dig GT6 back out.
I bought this game 4 years ago, even tho GT Sport was already on PS4, i didn’t have internet connection to play league. So GT6 was the only option i had. This game ended up teaching me how to drive
The online has so much wonderful memories, for me and many. The vast car list and tuning abilities made open lobbies incredibly fun, never the same on GTS
I found GT5 to cater much more to the casual racing fans in that (depending on the car) you didn't need to know too much about car setup, just tweak a few things and still be somewhat competitive. GT6 on the other hand it was much harder to grab a car and just race like that.. you had to set the car up to have something of a chance for fighting on track. As a casual racer myself, GT6 was not fun for me for this reason.. where as i got thousands of hours clocked on GT5.
I disagree because 6 is a bit less online involved as 5 and Kaz since GT4 Prologue was kinda obsessed by the idea of online connectivity and turning gamers into real world drivers. GT Sport is the true realisation of this idea. Playing GT5 today is kinda bad because of the online integration. It is still possible, sure but not only the game is more grindier for the lack of Seasonal Events, some events are locked behind a "lootbox" of sorts (at the time, you could purchase and borrow cars from friends and other players to do certain events, since this functionality died, the only way to do them officially without save modding is to wait for them to appear on the Used Car Dealership and you need the experience level and money to do so, which can take CENTURIES to do). On GT6 you simply purchase the car you need to complete the event and done. I think the last time UCD was done well was in GT4 which it was not required to find cars there to do events like on 5, but you could find cheaper and exclusive cars there.
@@lordeilluminati max level cars are literally level 24. You do not take long with level 24. Credits on the other hand... You must prepare for a car you like, getting gt formula is a pain now but still entirely possible.
Even if they just ported GT6 to the PS4, people would've called them lazy, but locked 1080p/60fps as a launch title racing game, that would've sold a lot. I miss the days when new consoles got quality racing games at launch. The Ridge Racer series has been sorely missed since 7, and that was a crisp-looking, super-fun arcade racer with a flawless 1080p/60fps, as a launch title for the PS3 back in 2006!
@@EpicAwesomesauce And by the way, Ridge Racer 7 still have online functionality and a handful of people still play it as of 2021! It's quite sad how many people overlooked on RR7... I think it's a fantastic arcade racing game that is sadly a drought in the AAA market. Always have to turn up the volume to max when Supercruiser is playing... *FULL TROTTLE!*
I played through this game recently, i actually liked it but i feel like all the parts that i enjoyed were already there in GT5. If they had released it on the ps4 instead i think ppl would be more accepting of it
@@Liamthewaldo No need to call people morons. @Campos is not wrong. While the actual game world was built from scratch, only the premium cars were built from scratch (actual HD) as well. So while the game boasted about it's large car roster, roughly 80% of that car roster was made up of PS2 assets from GT4 upscaled to HD. That's why most cars had a black silhouette as it's interior view because GT4 didn't have interior view. One of the biggest complains from reviewers and gamers for GT5 at the time was the PS2 looking cars racing with PS3 looking cars. While some upscaled worked well, most didn't and it clearly showed in the races that featured both premium and standard cars together. n4g.com/news/549399/gt5s-standard-cars-just-upscaled-gt4-models www.giantbomb.com/gran-turismo-5/3030-21790/forums/gt5-80-of-car-models-are-reworked-ps2-versions-425561/ gran-turismo.fandom.com/wiki/Standard_Cars
Yeah, it might have been successful as a ps4 game. They could have given it a higher resolution, more stable framerate and maybe upgraded track geometry and textures and it might have passed for an early generation game. Just look at Forza 5. It was barely more than an Xbox 360 title (way less cars than previous games, super low res and jaggy visuals etc) but it sold well because it was the first Forza on Xbone. People sort of expect early "next gen" games to be clunky and lacking in certain areas. I know Polyphony wants to upgrade their models between every generation, but if you look at the games a lot of the time tons of cars end up being "last gen" anyway, with a select group of "premium" cars being fully upgraded.
@@TheFurryInShambles especially on the starting events. I hated how many of them took place in Tsukuba to the point of naking me loathe this track forever
Cape ring I like the idea, but at the time PD needed more inspiration for scenery to be honest, many fictional tracks take place on tiny hills and plains and another one of them makes it more obvious, to the point of some people (myself included) mocking Cape Ring as "another track that takes place on the Windows XP wallpaper"
I dont feel it is that different, the issue with GT5 is that the accessibility balance is thrown out of the window. Every GT game was successful in making the game realistic enough for wheel users without at the expense of controller users (like on Project Cars). It is possible to play GT5 on a controller but many time trial events are near impossible to finish without a wheel (the most infamous at the time was the Sebastian Vettel Challenge), whereas even though GT6 feels easier, I think it teaches controller users better about driving techniques than 5 does. If you do everything right and as told on the tips of the event on 6 it gives Gold, then for an added challenge you compare your times with your friends (at the time the game shared everything on leaderboards), on 5 you will suffer getting Silver, most of the time you will only gain Bronze Medals. The only difference I feel in physics is that by default, the traction stability is stronger on 5 than on 6 but it is possible to set up. Even GT5 Prologue is better balanced than GT5.
This made me appreciate that even though Sony often thrusts GT at the forefront of a consoles showcase of power, the broader game community hasn't know how to engage with it. Hearing more than just pretty graphics and delays about this series is so refreshing.
As usual amazing review. The only things that I didn't really like about Gran Turismo 6 were the cars and the lack of a used car dealership. The many duplicates of Civic, Skylines and MX-5s was annoying and the PS2 assets rendered on a PS3 were ugly. I get why people don't like this game as they changed the progression system, but at least you don't have to spend 50% of the game in B-Spec like you had to in the fifth game.
i actually loved that they have put so many different trims and variations of the same car, also putting in the info and details of each variation, only problems are they are not premium model which is the ugly ps2 ported car models lol
And yet all I saw on the GTPlanet forums in regards to VGTs was complaining about how they weren't realistic and too futuristic. Mind you, I love the VGTs, never really understood the complaints.
@@person.w9780 that was the point, if you look at the VGT cars you will notice that a lot of those cars look like the cars from today in real life, like the FT-1/ MK V Supra, even subaru used their design in the 2015 Wrx.
Gran Turismo 6 literally made my childhood, teaching me how to properly drive (not into other cars), and I still use those skills I learned in modern racing games
so so so glad theres other people on the earth that kept playing gt4 and 5 all the time just to collect and drive all the weird cars maybe im not a psycho after all
You can have better framerates by sticking the console in 720p instead of 1080p. I always recommend doing this since the whole majority of the PS3 and 360 catalog are from 720p games anyway, at least on 360 all games were upscaled to 1080p, on PS3 is a different story, it only upscales on certain games (it needs to be set up by the publisher or the console will change the resolution to the next the user checked on the Video options) and the games that do run on 1080p native are few and far between. GT5 had issues with framerate too on particle effects, especially with grid races, on GT6 it mostly dont happen because of rolling starts. Screen tearing still happens though.
I still play GT6 to this day, was brought up in the mid 90’s playing GT1 and GT2, thanks to these games I was heavily influenced into Japanese cars. JDM Gran Turismo culture is literally my life and I’ve met so many great friends because of it. Thanks Polyphony for making the most beautiful reminiscent, nostalgic game ever.
Every Gran Tursimo game has a very special place in anybody's heart, and this is something very few racing game franchises can come close to achieving. Myself, Gran Turismo 1, 3 and 5 are all in my top 10 favourite games. I also agree GT6 is the "worst" GT game, but it still lies in my top 80. And I fully understand why there are thousands of fans of this game. Any kid can pick up this game for the first time and fall in love with the soul the game offers.
I have the same feeling about Forza horizon series. If u have a decent pc give it a try. Many of my friends turned into racing fans bcz of this series especially fh4
YES FINALLY ONE OF MY KIN! People always fawn all over GT2 and 4 which is very understandable since they're basically the previous games but with even more content, BUT I've always loved 1 and 3 the most. There's something about them that just made me play and love em way more than the others. Probably the soundtracks and the overall aesthethic. As for GT5, I didn't completely love it but I must admit I played the shit out of it anyways. Online, endurance races, collecting the hundreds of cars, manipulating the birthday ticket system lol. GT5 was a lot of fun but it was also sluggish (loading and menus) and the B spec was so annoying. As for 6 I never cared for it so I didn't even buy it until like 3 years after release. It felt weird when I first tried it, seems like a much more basic game than the rest imo but honestly I didn't mind. I did like 60% of the whole game in 1 week after I got it and then dropped it. But I had fun. And just yesterday I played splitscreen with my dad, remembering the old times and playing just how we used to play the previous games.

5 and 6 were alright, but for me, 4 will always have that special place. 4 was the first one I played after GT1, and I spent many an hour after school playing it. I had a garage with over 250 cars in it at one point.
I've got faith that Polyphony will bring GT7 back to GT4-style roots with a huge selection of interesting cars. They didn't delay it *again* for no reason, and there have been recent reports of cars getting shipped to Sony for modelling.

I dont think that's fair to Gran Turismo 4. With all assists off, every cars handling characteristics is more immersive. To make the game playable by the masses, the assists system practically masks these characteristics to keep the player in control 100% of the time. Once I turned off the assists it was like playing a whole new game.
"sport > 6 > 5 > 4" Interesting, That's the order of games that constantly tried to get closer and closer to being a Forza clone instead of a game for car enthusiasts. GT Sport is just a poor mans iRacing, running on the engine of GT7.
4:08 I will never understand this. I've installed GT6 3 times on my PS3 SuperSlim with all of the updated and, unlike everyone else, I never had a single issue
Looking at them back-to-back, I'm amazed at the leap from GT6 to GT Sport Not just consistency in car models, but the track detail, and especially the lighting
I had 400 000km on GT6. That game made my hobby into a passion in the few years it last. Thx for that video, tons of memories and you help me remember why this was such a great game. Never played GTS, never been interested by this game what so ever, full time on iRacing nowaday and I don't think without GT6 I would ever want to push that hobby that far.
Great retrospective. Really sums up my feelings about the series. I used to love those early stages, scraping the money together for a used 200SX or Prelude to start doing the Sunday cups. GT Sport is great but I loved collecting weird, shitty, slow cars and then thrashing them around the track. Like you said, the constant demand for graphical perfection has made it unfeasible to model so many cars in a modern game so, understandably, those bizarre kei cars and 90s FWD shitboxes have fallen by the wayside. Forza Horizon has been my replacement for that collecting aspect, but its physics is simcade at best. Like you, I doubt we'll see a proper simulator with such a vast array of cars ever again.
So many things I love about this game. I still play it on occasion with my 3D glasses, G27 rig and buttkickers. One of the few games you can customize the soundtrack with your own tunes.
Recently I got a PS 1 + GT 1 and decided to gold the license tests. I only finished the 1st set of tests on gold so far but it was so difficult (partly due to the wonky game play). A bronze trophy in GT 1 is probably equivalent to GT Sport's gold trophy. Edit: also when it comes to racing, I was fighting for 1st place the whole time in GT 1, while in Sport it's usually very easy.
I love collecting cars in GT5, grinding for credits and shopping the used listing. I rarely purchase from the new dealership because the cars will always be there - the credits are better saved for a rare deal in the used dealership.
Playing it again right now because I was craving for some real GT instead of the crap that is 7. It is not a bad game, does not reach the heights of 4 but it is not bad nonetheless. You can see some hints of the horrible microtransaction-laden monstrosity that would be 7 (money is very tight unless you play the special events, no used cars dealership, very few bonus cars) and honestly they could have added more events to use all of the tracks at least a couple of times in single player mode, but it is an enjoyable racing experience altogether.
Thankfully the camera is entirely customizable in GT Sport so you can technically made a chase cam that works the same way as in the first three GT games.
My favorite thing to do in GT 5 and 6 was take old and silly cars and try to turn them into racing machines... And for the record my best work was a Honda Element so race me, bitch!
GT6 was my first gran turismo game since I didn't own a PlayStation till the 3, I remember buying the game used and my excitement at finally getting to play a series I've always been interested in, it's a game that means alot to me even if it isn't the best.
Regarding the A.I. difficulty, I always seem to have one to three opponents who are the only challenge in the event, like that bellend who was using a Toyota 7 in the 70s car event in international B.
That ending was the perfect description of why games like GT Sport and the newer Forza games have not been able to excite me. They omit all of the wacky and interesting cars throughout automotive history and just stick to modern track cars
It's odd, I downloaded GT 6 again on Sunday, and it started downloading the patches. 21 in all. And they all installed without failing. Talk about luck.
Great idea! I actually quite liked the game when it came out, despite being a massive fan of RR7. It had some really cool ideas, such as the track creator, though it's kind of hard to call it a Ridge Racer game. IMO they should at least have kept the branding and lore of the previous games, making it feel somewhat connected. Given the gameplay though, that might have made it even more controversial. XD
As I never owned a PS3, I never really had an opportunity to play 5 or 6. I was always puzzled as to why 6 dropped post-PS4, but on the PS3 only. Though, I have recently decided to re-play GT4 again. And because I didn't want to spend hours of my life doing the license tests when I'm already pretty competent at driving games as it is, I ended up downloading a game save that just completed the tests. I'm really glad they scaled back the obnoxiousness of said tests in future entries, cannot imagine doing more of that myself, eugh.
Well, the PS3 uses an entirely different architecture than the PS4. The PS4 went back to the standard x86 architecture just like any normal computer. x86 is vastly more common and much easier to code than the cell architecture of the PS3, but it would still be unreasonable to rewrite the same game from the ground up again. The delays were already bad enough, and the game was over 5 years in the making I believe. I guess the PS4 was still a long way off when they started producing the game, so not much thought was put into it in the first place :)
My best friend and I at the time always used to compete against each other. setting up challenges within a certain budget or performance points. We always liked vastly different cars. It was always my nimble little Japanese sports cars vs his big American muscle cars. Somehow we were always incredibly closed matched, no matter what track we went to. I miss those days dearly. Forza as great as a lot of them are, never quite scratched the same itch. It is now years further on and you know a game is special if you still remember it so vividly after such a long time.
Never thought about replacing the Ferrari F1 with the Vettmobile, another weird shortcoming to add to GT6 ... But I still have to say it’s better than GT5, for the thousands of kilometers I travelled online on Nurburgring Touristenfahren lobbies, and for the huge step up in physics compared to previous titles that made it all so much more enveloping The online cruise lobbies (real traffic rules roleplay depending on the hosts nationality and the aforementioned Ring Fahren in particular) gave all the weird cars a purpose that died with the server shutdown I have so many cars in my GT6 garage with memories from the online lobbies, but as you sort of mentioned they don’t make sense to use for single player and now just sit as a testament to who I was, what I liked car wise back then and what was booming in the car culture as well Have to say great video as usual, you are so good at painting pictures with what you do - pictures of collective memories, nostalgia, together with bone hard facts and history that melt together and create some of the consistently best content on RUclips - thanks as always Kacey!
@@TheFurryInShambles I see but would have been cooler and made more sense with a direct contemporary replacement. Something that would also highlight how far F1 had come, and would have given the player a chance to witness the difference in e.g. aero capabilities and tire technology.. I'll always love this game because my family wasn't able to afford a new console, so I was stuck with the PS2 and GT3/4 until they bought a Wii (which obviously doesn't have a lot of racing games to play on), and had to wait until 2013 and a bit of money from saving all these years to buy a PS3 and GT6. I think you forgot to touch on one main issue that GT6 had. Which was its economy. GT6 was the first game in the series to feature microtransactions. The thing that Polyphony failed to fix which remained an issue in Gran Turismo 5 was the economy its such a grindfest to earn and collect cars. When the online services were active race earnings were multiplied by a login bonus and the login bonus multiplied how much credits a player could make from a race ie picking a slower car to match a faster car was one main multiplayer for the login bonus. The PS3 era GT games had this issue and PS3 Gran Turismo are relics of how game economics and progressive shouldn't work.
I disagree. Gran Turismo 1 is the worst GT game; terrible graphics, limited customization, hard controls, dated psychics, limited career mode, bad frame rate, no online play, etc. GT1 hasn't aged well.
The track creator getting removed really hurt. I think the rally races were cut down or removed, as well. I remember going back to GT5 within a few days.

The game pretty much was GT5 but... Pros: More tracks and cars including all of the tracks and cars (except the Ferrari F1) from GT5, a better course creator, and better online room options, more 24 hours time cycles on tracks that didn't have them on GT5. Cons: Removal of endurance races, removal of the tire wear option in Arcade Mode, removal of the ability to do a one make race in any car, removal of shuffle races. The removal of endurance races could also be seen as a pro for those who want to 100% the game but don't care for the endurance races. The races are really easy as GT AI has always been slow and have bad pit strategy. If I were to design it, I would not force endurance races as part of the career, but still leave the option to set them up in arcade mode as well as bring back what GT5P had where you could choose what opponent cars you race against. Also, one make races should be able to mirror your car including all upgrades. Also, for online, if you can customize it in your car settings, it should also be able to be restricted in the room settings, to the point of being able to ban individual cars, limit HP 1 HP at a time and weight 1 kg at a time. Add the ability to create a BOP spec for each car that is allowed in a room as the room host.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm bad at gt games. Especially 4. I only made it close to getting the licences as a teen. I never played 6 but knew someone in school that would dump money into the game My first real experience with gt is with sport, cause it supports vr. And while the vr mode was extremely bare bones when it first came out it's very fleshed out now. Like in the begining you could only use pre picked cars and barely any rewards. But now it's just like playing the regular modes The vr video quality is also not the best and the draw distance isnt the best, but understandably this is on a PSVR It's my favorite vr game to relax with. I really really enjoy driving around, and I also love making cursed liveries.
After all this time I finally can play this game on ps 3 yesterday, I know that was freaking outdated, but you know it probably the best game I've ever played
Despite it being really bad, I still by far have the most memories coming from that game than any other racing game I've ever played. The drag races at indy road course, those 300 mph races on special stage route x, and the amazing times messing around on the Nurburgring. Couldn't have been a better time.
Trivial Fact: the Honda Fit is renamed in Indonesia (and possibly another country with similar condition that I'm gonna be mentioning) probably to avoid confusion because, I dunno if this is the same Honda, but apparently in Indonesia there are two Honda. One is the car company and the other is a motorcycle company. I suspect they are both Honda, but kinda different branch or division. So the motorcycle company manufactured this motorcycle called Honda Fit that many people had during 2006-2010-ish, I guess it's pretty common to own one because the price was like cheap (approximately $1200) and I saw it almost everyday and everywhere. So, in Indonesia, Honda Fit (the car) is called Honda Jazz, probably (as I mentioned) to avoid confusion. But all this is only my speculation and I didn't notice this until I first played Gran Turismo, I think it was GT3.
I think one of the reasons why Redbull didn't included F1 cars in GT6 is because the license deal with Gameloft for GT Academy from 2012 up until 2016 when it was removed from store.
I don’t really know anything about Grand Tourismo but I remember this game for having a million cars including some really really old cars from the Edwardian era, to the point where I actually saw it showed off in a museum to let you drive the old cars. Or at least I think it was GT6, it might’ve been GT5, but I remember hearing about it and it made me want the game for years, but I’ve never had a PlayStation 3+.
I recently decided to try GT5 because I wanted to try making hybrid cars on my softmodded PS3 and... Found out you can't even wheel swap the non-"premium" cars. I immediately went back to playing GT4. =_=;
GT6 fixed a lot of things wrong with GT5, feels more polish, but in the process removes importants things to a GT game, i played a lot of both, and always prefer GT6, it just felt better
GT5 still better than 6 , GT6 don’t have used dealership and the B spec is piece of shit, also GT Sport add too much cars that does not exist in the real world , that’s why I went to Forza
@@Takumi-dy4ky if you played season events you would have a huge amount of money, i had a vast amount of cars in GT6 never felt the need to buy credits
Interesting video. Thanks. I understand that for some people GT6 was disappointing, but GT6 was a big improvement over GT5 for me. The simulated physics were much better when using a wheel, and I thought the track textures were better (rougher). The ability to make your own tracks (although limited) was also a great addition. It depends what you want from the game. For me, it was a bout the driving, and for me, GT6 was a step up from GT5, so I personally think it's the better of the two.
After watching this video it never occurred to me that I might have downloaded the patches wrong. I never had much issues with the game upon release as a kid but after a few more patches the game would literally crash my ps3 after mere minutes of playing. Since it kept happening i stopped playing the game and to this day still haven't gone back to it. What a shame since i enjoyed it as a kid
Gt6 was my first Gran Turismo (sorry for being young) and I liked it very much. It was a very fun game and it got a very own beautiful feeling with its music and its layout
Great Review! However, that "soul" you described at the end - it didn't come across to me when I played that game. - The UI looks particularily bland to me. Most stuff is colored in justr one color, and the championship race selection looks particulairly boring to me. No fancy background, no more trophies to display per race, no effort to make each championship look distinctive. Instead, you are given a list of championship with a list of races and some random image to showcase what cind of cars you may be driving. Not as bad as NfS Shift's way of presenting championship (which was literally just "Championship I", "Championship II", etc.), but nothing that grabs your eyes as much as the championshiop posters found in GT3 to GT5. - The streamlined progression makes the game far less enjoyable in my opinion. I liked having the the ability to choose, and prefered grinding the license tests and having a small selection of cars to start with. And if I got bored, I could always switch to a championship or two for a refresher, and come back to the license tests later. Now, you're stuck with the ever same cylcle of race -> license -> race -> license -> race... - Also, I dislike the fact that you don't get a car after each championship anymore. You have boring championships in the older titles as well as in GT6, but the difference is that sometimes you could get a decent car out of it. Like getting a Honda Civic Race Car out of the Civic-exclusive manufacturer championship for instance - a championship you can partake in with your first car after getting your first license. In GT6, you have to get gold in all IB licences to finally get your hands on a full-blown race car (althouh the RE Amemiya RX-7 you get for achieving all-gold in Nat. A is getting close). - This is probably more personal prefeence, but I never really grew fond of the new Original tracks. Cape Ring and Matterhorn can fuck off in particular (eiger Nordwand is cool though). What ever really happened to wide tracks with smooth curves? What happened to Special Stage Route 11 that can be seen in the initial GT6 trailer? - Lastly, and this is a thing that also bugged me in GT5: I despise that the 3rd person camers are stuck so fierecely to the rear of the car. I feel like I have no response about how much I am steering actually. Just becuase I pull the stick fully to one side doesn't mean that the car has to react exactly like that (under-/oversteer and all that), and I'm having severe trouble "reading" my cars behaviour with that "stiff" camera.
I agree. I also really missed the Top Gear test track in GT6. Great tight track to put your suspension tuning to the test and it didn't take a million years to do a few laps. I wasn't really that mad about the cars ported from GT4 either. GT4 looks better on an emulator these days than those cars looked in GT5 and GT6.
I think the stiffness we feel is because the hard suspension setting also the tendency to understeer-oversteer thing with almost every performance tunning even tires, spoiler, brakes, tire camber angle?, etc. to balance and counter it Limited Slip Differential how to use it you have sensitivity options too, read the manual and descriptions I recommend watching the yt channel Viperconcept for learning more And yes they could have more camera options and angles
So, at Gamescom 2013 (which was about 3-4 months away from GT6' launch), a german gaming magazine guy had an interview with Kaz. Kaz said that PD were planning to launch GT6 on the PS4 about half a year after GT6' initial launch. To this point (correct me if I'm wrong), it's still unknown why GT6 never made it to the PS4
I finally bought GT6 this year, somehow I missed it when it was released, even though I completed every other game in the series 100%. I love the game, and think it looks and controls better than any game in the series (except Sport). And yes, the initial install sucked big time.
One thing that I think is worth mentioning that also affects the experience quite a lot is how the main menu is handled in GT6. Given how small, simple and quick to navigate it is, it also makes the game feel quite small IMO when compared to GT5 and especially GT4. In addition to this, the way the music changes each time you go into the garage, a GT Auto section or the arcade mode can make going through the menus quite jarring as you hear the beginning of a new tune almost every 5 seconds. This, to me, also makes the game feel quite rushed as I'm sure they would have improved the experience had they had more time to work on it. I still love the game though and have played quite a lot of it recently, experiencing the unique quirks and driving behaviours of some oddball cars.
Great video! I love Gran Turismo 6, it’s one of the first games that really made me appreciate the PlayStation 3. And really made me fall in love with the series even more
What sadden's is that my copy of GT6 refused to boot from the disk. I took my PS3 once to my grandparents house living it in the PS3, and it just refuses to load. No other game suffers so PS3 is fine, but disk is looking pristine...... i will try getting other disk on the cheap and see if that fixes it....but again disk is scratchless and not damaged so i dunno if even that is the problem :/ Shame because GT6 is the best of the series for splitscreen, GT4 for some dumb reason doesnt allow 2nd player use nitrous, GT5 didnt have it and GT6 brought it back and it did work for everyone. Plus well...it has the most vehicles in the series including almost everything from GT3 and up.
GT2 was my go-to racing game during the whole PSone era and I played the living hell out of it. I never had a PS2 or PS3, but some years ago my girlfriend gave me her brother’s abandoned PS3. The first thing I did was buying GT6, and after all the installation issues, I was able to play it, and for me, it felt like playing GT2 again. I even bought a Logitech G27 to learn how to play with a steering wheel, and it took the experience to a whole new level. For me, GT2 will always be the best one because of the nostalgia of playing hours and hours with my dad theough almost 90% of the events, but GT6 was an amazing game to return to the franchise.
The main selling point of a GT game is the amount of content that was available at launch you even got to buy a prologue game before the full title in the past and that’s what you didn’t get with GT6
Get a 160GB PS3 slim and mod it you'll regret it at first because is kinda annoying all the steps BUT is unlimited videogames and your own fully customizable console at your pleasure even you have online until sony decides about that again I can do a backup copy .iso file for my original GT6 if the reading laser someday fails and have it in the internal HDD Or get a super slim with a external HDD because the internal memory is only 12 GB Or you can buy it digitally right now that sony showed their face about the ps3 psn store
I just recently bought a PS3 and the first game I put in was Gran Turismo 6, I had to sit through about 4 hours of downloads. But afterwards I had a great time. To me it feels like GT4 but again. I didn’t like the tutorials at the beginning but they weren’t around for a long time. Car game go vroom vroom and that’s all I need.
My second favourite game in the series, slotting between GT4 (#1) and GT2. Sure, it doesn't have the race options of GT5 but it has lots of cars and lots of tracks which is perfect for a time-trialler like me.
I remember having Gran Turismo 5 prologue and enjoying and wanting to play multiplayer except I couldn't connect since online services had probably already shut down by then.
I grew up with both GT5 and GT6 with the latter I kept on playing with until I got a PS4 back in 2018. It was also the 15th anniversary version too. GT6 had it all - the entirety of GT5’s menu music, Vision GT that showed every manufacturers’ ideas (albeit it wasn’t completed bc of GTS and it having its servers shut down), a much more complex track editor, cleaner UI (seriously, GT5’s menu was a mess), and albeit the used car dealership was gone, at least I still get to admire them when I give the dealership a visit. I agree so much on the AI - *_they’re too sensitive._* In comparison to GTS’, they feel like they’re on rails and it seems like they would make sure they hit the driving line _perfectly_ instead of letting the car slide to oblivion (like what the AI does when driving the LaFerrari). What I do to circumvent that is to _do exactly what the AI_ does. It makes for really cool replays of us “fighting” for position when in reality I was purposefully slowing down. I remember leaving GT6 on its menu whilst I was making my school project back in 2017. Its selection of menu music was astronomical. Also, I swear to god GT6 *_NEVER_* looked *_THAT_* dark when I played it myself. It was as bright as GT5 as far as I can remember but whenever I watch youtube videos with GT5 and GT6 in them, the latter looks legitimately *_dead_* because of the lack of any bright light. That’s weird.
Look at the upload date before leaving stupidass comments about GT7.
Idc if people disagree, gt7 is better.
Agreed, I honestly prefer GT7 over GT Sport
For some reason forza motorsports in 2022 still looks and feels like GT5-6 lol

I suspect the real reason why they tremendously scaled down the endurance races is that Gran Turismo 5 cooked a ton of PS3s and Sony was so concerned about replacing thousands of motherboards that they forced PD to do it.
heheheh. entirely possible.
Knowing that PS3’s on stock fan speeds lived at like, 80c or something this is entirely believable.
I kind of like Project Cars 2 a little more than the modern GT games.
i have almost 900 hours in GT6 (Unpopular Opinion: GT6 is the best GT game), I still have fun playing that game from time to time.
Gran Turismo used to be such a fun single player experience, but 5 and 6 really lost some of that, and Sport practically killed it.

I personally liked GT6, but it didn’t feel like a brand new Gran Turismo but rather a huge update to GT5, call it GT5.5. The cars handling were much more improved giving cars more character and realism but it lacked the soul of GT5.
I agree. GT5s UI and attention to detail like a mostly animated gtauto has way more uniqueness, identity and soul than the rather bland GT6 UI.
I especially loved the Vision GT program that was introduced in this game too!
@@Yoshiman2024 There are some nice cars in GT6.
Nah, I miss the classic structure when you would beat an event and the prize car would invariably lead you into something else. Hopping from car to car without spending credits until you had absolutely nowhere else to go. Still, I should dig GT6 back out.
@@michaelkitchin9665 I still play both GT5 and GT6. I have all the cars in GT5.

Right ?? GT 6 is amazing !
this game is doesnt like in real life if you drive with controller
@@lunasilvermoon2283 Agree
I think 6 are the things what Kaz envision when he tought of 5
I disagree because 6 is a bit less online involved as 5 and Kaz since GT4 Prologue was kinda obsessed by the idea of online connectivity and turning gamers into real world drivers.
I think I had a stroke reading this

when the ps4 is already out
Even if they just ported GT6 to the PS4, people would've called them lazy, but locked 1080p/60fps as a launch title racing game, that would've sold a lot. I miss the days when new consoles got quality racing games at launch.

@@Liamthewaldo yes it does, do your research dude, GT5 and GT6 use car models from GT4
I honestly prefer this game over 5, the leveling up system is one of the worst things to ever happen on gt
Sport is fun tbh gthough.
6's physics/handling model is way better than 5's. Playing on a controller was dreamy.

"PS2 assets rendered on a PS3 were ugly" - that is the worst. Also true for GT5.

So kids only like the 6th game? That explains why I love it a lot...

They didn't delay it *again* for no reason, and there have been recent reports of cars getting shipped to Sony for modelling.

for the gran turismo experience in general: 4 > 5 > sport > 6
for actual racing gameplay: sport > 6 > 5 > 4
For the overall collection and representation of cars past, present and future: 4>6>5>Sport
5 & over definitely have better gameplay than the 4th, but I had better experience with 5 & 6 tbh
I dont think that's fair to Gran Turismo 4. With all assists off, every cars handling characteristics is more immersive. To make the game playable by the masses, the assists system practically masks these characteristics to keep the player in control 100% of the time. Once I turned off the assists it was like playing a whole new game.
Wasn't a huge fan of the actual racing in GT4 because the tires wore out way too fast IMO. So glad they toned it down for GT5.
Looking at them back-to-back, I'm amazed at the leap from GT6 to GT Sport
Not just consistency in car models, but the track detail, and especially the lighting
Part 4 is by far still the best of the series.
@Ali Cuntë let me guess Sport...? Cause of da graphix.
No doubt.
I did a triple take seeing the real-world data to in-game. Holy shit.
I grew up with Forza, then GT 5 and 6. One thing I can't stand was the loading times and stiff camera.
I absolutely hate the stiff rear view on GT games. Thankfully it has a decent bonnet cam, which is what I use.
The rear camera was never the same after GT 3. It's really annoying to drive using that camera.
I went from Gran Turismo to Forza almost entirely on the camera factor alone. It felt much more immersive solely from the camera.
Heheheh. The Element is a fantastic car IRL. I want to own one at some point, they have so much personality

I actually just bought the CD for gt5 and gt5 prologue. The jazz/lounge music on these games are just too good.
I think this is the best in my op, 1. Its my childhood 2. The sound track goes hard 3. The dlc they added.

Hi Kacey! Please consider a video about Ridge Racer Unbounded. That game was controversial, and back then, weird AF lol
XD
The only reason I'll get GT 6 is for the Ayrton Senna feature.

I literally just played it yesterday with my dad for 2 hours. So much fun.
GT6 is basically 5 but with better load screens and menus.
Never thought about replacing the Ferrari F1 with the Vettmobile, another weird shortcoming to add to GT6
... But I still have to say it’s better than GT5, for the thousands of kilometers I travelled online on Nurburgring Touristenfahren lobbies, and for the huge step up in physics compared to previous titles that made it all so much more enveloping
The online cruise lobbies (real traffic rules roleplay depending on the hosts nationality and the aforementioned Ring Fahren in particular) gave all the weird cars a purpose that died with the server shutdown
I have so many cars in my GT6 garage with memories from the online lobbies, but as you sort of mentioned they don’t make sense to use for single player and now just sit as a testament to who I was, what I liked car wise back then and what was booming in the car culture as well
Have to say great video as usual, you are so good at painting pictures with what you do - pictures of collective memories, nostalgia, together with bone hard facts and history that melt together and create some of the consistently best content on RUclips - thanks as always Kacey!
@@TheFurryInShambles I see but would have been cooler and made more sense with a direct contemporary replacement.
Something that would also highlight how far F1 had come, and would have given the player a chance to witness the difference in e.g. aero capabilities and tire technology..
Though tbh I would have rather wanted them to finish the VGT program on GT6 than focus on F1, one can only dream of what could have been hiding behind the Jordan Brand logo haha
And I must say that the hype was worth the wait. I have fond memories of playing the game coming back from high school, enjoying the beautiful and calming lounge music on the menus for hours before racing Matt Kenseth's 2013 Camry around Daytona
I’m glad Gran Turismo is coming back to its roots with 7, Sport just didn’t feel the same with its extreme focus on being an Esports sim game

For me to want to buy it, it needs to have offline campaign mode. And I'd prefer a used car market like the OG GT had.

My first real experience with gt is with sport, cause it supports vr. And while the vr mode was extremely bare bones when it first came out it's very fleshed out now. Like in the begining you could only use pre picked cars and barely any rewards. But now it's just like playing the regular modes
The vr video quality is also not the best and the draw distance isnt the best, but understandably this is on a PSVR

I'd say GT7 has taken this title now. What a shit show.
I think one of the reasons why Redbull didn't included F1 cars in GT6 is because the license deal with Gameloft for GT Academy from 2012 up until 2016 when it was removed from store.
Regardless the game is the last Gran Turismo being able to be fully played offline

One of the errors was that there was no PS4 version. The game deserves a nice Goty edition on the PS4.
I think the stiffness we feel is because the hard suspension setting also the tendency to understeer-oversteer thing with almost every performance tunning even tires, spoiler, brakes, tire camber angle?, etc. to balance and counter it
Limited Slip Differential how to use it you have sensitivity options too, read the manual and descriptions
I recommend watching the yt channel Viperconcept for learning more
And yes they could have more camera options and angles
Best PD game is definitely Tourist Trophy. I need a sequel!
No other game suffers so PS3 is fine, but disk is looking pristine...... i will try getting other disk on the cheap and see if that fixes it....but again disk is scratchless and not damaged so i dunno if even that is the problem :/
Shame because GT6 is the best of the series for splitscreen, GT4 for some dumb reason doesnt allow 2nd player use nitrous, GT5 didnt have it and GT6 brought it back and it did work for everyone. Plus well...it has the most vehicles in the series including almost everything from GT3 and up.
I'm almost certain GT5 has splitscreen multiplayer, is it not an option in arcade mode?

GT6 would be successful if it would also be released for PS4. Same like Enthuasia for PC.

The game is OK in general. I just don't understand why they sacked endurance races completely
Prob cause GT5 endurance races cooked PS3s
My second favourite game in the series, slotting between GT4 (#1) and GT2. Sure, it doesn't have the race options of GT5 but it has lots of cars and lots of tracks which is perfect for a time-trialler like me.
The worst is GT7
I remember having Gran Turismo 5 prologue and enjoying and wanting to play multiplayer except I couldn't connect since online services had probably already shut down by then.
Moon over castle, great soundtrack!
