I got recommended pretzel logic by an old coworker, and i listened once 3 or 4 years ago and thought whatever, "can't buy a thrill was better" but i just revisited pretzel logic on a whim. Great album
Thank you SO much for this. Was having a day where I really needed to get my head out of my a**. Saw this, went and pulled it up on the TV, picked up my acoustic...and my day was totally changed by the joy of making beautiful music! (Had a bit of a Steely Dan head start by already knowing the guitar part to Pretzel Logic;) Again, thanks so much!!!
D55 from Westerly, early '90s. I've got two of them, but this one is the finest acoustic guitar I've ever owned. I'd sell all my Gibsons and my Martin without losing a wink of sleep -- this guitar destroys them all.
@@jamesjames9275 I have a 77 D25M I bought out of a car trunk for $20 about 17 years ago. It had rusty strings and mold started... but it cleaned up and it sounds just unbelievable. It booms and it sustains for what seems like 5 minutes... a D55 is a dream of mine, Westerly made D55 of course.. and I want a nice Guild 12 string too. And a D46... the really bright sound of that Ash is lovely.
Great job. No doubt those are all the right chords. Always loved the sound of Guild acoustics. Even before I started playing guitar. That thing sounds beautiful. Brilliant tune also.
Any Rochester Americans’ shirts? Dick Gamble, long time player/coach for the Americans, ran an excellent hockey school in Bowmanville, Ontario. Gerry Cheevers taught the goalies and Arnie Brown handled the defense. I was lucky enough to be a team mate of Richard Gamble (Dick’s son) in midget hockey in Oshawa. That’s all I’ve got besides, I thoroughly enjoy your lessons! Keep up the great work and thank you.
Have you noticed you never see James and Buckethead together in the same room, or maybe I have and just didn't know because I've never seen their faces. Love the lessons BTW!
That is a great one James James. Sure to be a crowd pleaser ! Your ear and familiarity with the fretboard just amazed me,. Every time. Always a pleasure stopping by here. You got me off to Keef land for a couple of years, and some Pete T, but I gave my Tele to my son. Now it's back to koo-stick. Always fun, always rewarding 👊
Really well done. I love Steely Dan, but usually trying to learn their guitar parts makes my head hurt. You make this look easy to figure out. (because you're really good at this)
Nice! A band I never gave a whole lot of listening back then, but have grown to appreciate their skill and musicianship, particularly Jeff Baxter now in missile defense. (I think) Thanks for posting.
Awesome JJ《☆》I never noticed Guild using mosaic inlays before👽🍗They look similar to the ones on my Takamine EG523SC. The camera doesn't do them justice◇¿.Nice[1]Bro😎🎱☮🔊🖖👍
cool, the other one that is possible to play on just guitar is Dirty Work. It is possible to sing too with just one voice. I cant ever sing this one right, when I get to the chorus, it's like Im in the wrong key, some kind of crazy harmony that is beyond me but it's my favorite of all their songs. Thanks.
@ Joe Jones You can do it ! Just keep trying 😉. I sometimes have to just play em, record them, then sing to the recording,...over and over and over, then slowly add my singing to it,...measure by measure, or phrase by phrase until I get it. Stick with it because we all know you can do it!!!
Great stuff. To me this is the perfect pop song. I love the piano melody in the intro (and bridge), in parallel with the guitar, gonna see if some of that can be overlaid.
Thanks for this. Might like this for the E chord in the intro and following "...when you get home": 022432 (the alternating E and B notes are handy there in the two low strings of the chord), and this for the F#m under "...but you could have a change of heart": X42224
I haven't looked yet to see if you do a Jimmy jazz lesson, and I know you don't necessarily take requests. However; I'd love to see your take on it. I have my own version that I have performed live many times. If I do covers I usually try to make them my own version. But I'd love to see your own version of Jimmy jazz, revolution Rock, hell anything from London calling or Sandinista! Just throwing it out there. You know we all appreciate you no matter what you put out there. Thanks again!!!!
Hey did you ever pull me out of a jam trying to learn this song. I kept struggling with chord voicings! I swear it was like an inmate trying to break put of prison! 🇨🇦🙏🇱🇷
I’ll make you a deal. I’ll give you a free flying lesson for a guitar lesson. I’ve been playing guitar for a while and would appreciate a jam session. 😊
I once had a Steely Dan songbook which showed the chords above the lyrics & I was thrown straight away by these obscene chords, I could play the basic chords but these, No way. That turned me away from them, Although some of their songs are good.
Love when my day starts with a "Hey all".
Good luck.
I agree man. Signature sound, and an oncoming experience. Love me some Dan. Thanks James.
Oh wow. All these years I’ve thought he said “Hey Y’all”….But I am from Alabama so…
The Guild just sounds so beautiful...thanks for the Steely Dan.
I like that you give us stuff that pushes my comfort level.
Thanks
Love that song. That's a KSHE 95 classic in st.louis mo. 👍 Thanks Jimmy Jam 🙏
Coolest guitar teacher ever 👍
This just popped up in my feed and I thought. YES! He’s back! Damn, 3 months ago.
😢
I pray you both are well and in God's Care
Steely Dan my favorite band since I listened for the firs time Deacon Blues, great lesson!
Your Schecter is badass! Now I have The Who’s ‘82 Toronto show stuck in my mind.
Thanks again! Practicing with my Fez on! Love this channel!
If they dont play it like this, they should! sounds better than the other lessons on here
Always lots of nuggets of wisdom in these lessons. I cop a lot of tricks from you. Many thanks for your lessons.
Glad to see the tutelage of Pete and Geets(sic), Bernie Kimball is alive in this one ....long live rock!
Great job

Dude!!
Sweeeet Guild!
D50 D55?
I am a Guild freak. Just love them.
Also, The Dan is superb. Never get tired of them.

Outstanding (any major) dude 🎸👍
Another song that I will kinda know!
Dean Parks did the acoustic, and of course Jeff Skunk Baxter did the solo. That beginning is a marimba.
Thank you sir.
Not heard this for many a year, thanks for the lesson. Wales
Top 3 songs of my life. Thanks for the great instruction, much appreciated.
Great job. No doubt those are all the right chords. Always loved the sound of Guild acoustics. Even before I started playing guitar. That thing sounds beautiful. Brilliant tune also.
I've been learning and enjoying your videos since the beginning. Thanks for all the knowledge.
Most Excellent 👍🏼... Cheers 🍻

Dirty work sounds great acoustically imo ...I do a rendition 😊 I enjoy your videos, thank you so much

Nice Guild!
Thanks love that song. Appreciate the lesson.
That answered a lot of questions. Thanks.
Well done, I’m loving your run on Steely Dan.
Yes Priv, thank you for continuing to post this awesome stuff. Ultraman rules!
Just perfect. Amazingly talented!! Thank you
This is awesome! I love Steely Dan 🤘
Thanks for sharing this 👍
I am a Steeler fan fanatic, and this is a very accurate rendition. Nice job!

Another great one JJ...was cutting lawn today and this song popped up in my headphones. "It's a goocher!" - Stand By Me
oh steely yhtanks
Good morning!
i believe the instrument in the start was something like a marimba, or a type of keyed instrument with wood keys
Really well done. I love Steely Dan, but usually trying to learn their guitar parts makes my head hurt. You make this look easy to figure out. (because you're really good at this)
Factoid...Intro baseline taken from Song for My Father by Horace Silver: ruclips.net/video/mKf1x3CALAE/видео.html
Your listening and transcribing skills are amazing! Thanks for another cool vid.
Nice! A band I never gave a whole lot of listening back then, but have grown to appreciate their skill and musicianship, particularly Jeff Baxter now in missile defense. (I think) Thanks for posting.
stellar
Gracias por esta buenisima lección!! temazo de Stely Dan que hay que aprenderse sin duda!! Es excelente!! Felicitaciones!!

Go Red Wings. Saw their games a lot as a kid. Great tutorial as usual. Watch out for Toledo Mud Hens.
Good challenge on this one... thanks
Awesome. Thanks for that!
lov it

Brother you got the gift .....but man, I love that D55 sound ......tell the truth - you play even more now, eh???

Mike Campbell ?
Anyways this is great.
I watch others. Then when up to speed i go to you .🤣
Dean parks if I'm not mistaken

You should look.
nice lesson - i think after the b7@4.31 it goes to E or E7?
Hey did you ever pull me out of a jam trying to learn this song. I kept struggling with chord voicings! I swear it was like an inmate trying to break put of prison! 🇨🇦🙏🇱🇷
Nice!! What kind of acoustic are you playing?
That's a Guild D55. It's the best acoustic guitar I've ever played.
is that a rochester jersey?
E to Esus as transition I thought.
I am sorry i let my guild d55 go
I’ll make you a deal. I’ll give you a free flying lesson for a guitar lesson. I’ve been playing guitar for a while and would appreciate a jam session. 😊
No way - if I crash, it’s going to be in a Porsche, not a plane!
@jamesjames9275 a GTS 3 RS of course
Go Penguins, ;0)
That's the Rochester Red Wings, Triple A.
@@jamesjames9275 LOL cool, Thanks for the great lessons.
Go Crunch! 😉
I see your amp goes to 11.
