Great lesson! Thanks! I think I'd call that one chord AMaj9/C# as it's just inverting the A chord to climb up the scale to the D. (I think you called it that initially) Regardless, very well done!
Played this Song about 20 Years and was not aware of this second chord in the Verse. I always played a simple C#m7, that C#m7#5 gives it a new , better flavour. Thanks for that !
Great stuff! You always stay true to the record. Much appreciated. If I could request another acoustic tune. Tomorrow by Joe Walsh. Cant quite figure this one out and you nailed indian summer! Very good!
Thanks Dave. That's a great song. Just discovered your site and that was very kind of you teaching the world how to play that wonderful tune. Hope you're still jamming. Take care---
Sounds very good....as you probably know, there are many, many versions of this tutorial or tune on YT....many have slight variants of the chords or at least different voicings of same. I think you have gotten the best sound in a couple of the more complex, subtle chords here....going to try them on for size if I can figure them out. That one you show as an augmented A or Cm7 variant being the chief puzzle, although the G7 voicing you offer is really nice as well. The little lead riff between verse is more challenging than it looks because it goes in both directions.....up and down in pitch, if you know what I'm referring to...and it is played real fast. This is a harder tune than it sounds because your hand tires with those barre chords. In any event, great choice of material as always. Donald and Walter had a guest lead guitarist on stage back in the day, maybe 1980's or 90's, that excelled at this tune....with incredible lead guitar passages....never heard them played that high. Tune exemplifies early Dan composition, more straight rock/ballad, less jazz fusion/rock.
Hey Dave, this tune was playing on the radio a few minutes ago, so I thought “I ought to know how to play this!, but I don’t “ So of course I thought you’d know it, and sure enough, you do. I really enjoyed the video and your excellent explanation of it. Gonna watch again with my guitar and girlfriend with her’s and figure it out. Really nice man!
I’m new to your channel. I really enjoy your Steely Dan lessons/videos. I would love to see and hear your version of “Don’t take me alive” off the Steely Dan’s album Royal Scam...
This is a great lesson. There are actually two acoustic parts, one in the left and one in the right. If I wanted to recreate the studio record, which one are you playing? How is the other one different?
Hey... Daveee..... Who makes that beehive studio mic on your extends boom? Please and thank you. I like the pretty red cord. It's pretty, red. Thank you in all seriousness. Asking for a friend.
Dave for our more advanced guitar players would you consider just playing it first all the way through before you even start breaking down the chorus in the verse in the intros and all that stuff most people would like to just see you do the song play it first and then break it down
Thanks!

It's just an Aadd9 in the first inversion. It's functionally still an A chord.
Great tutorial, the best I've seen here on RUclips : - )
Thanks Dave for your wonderful contribution to lives of musicians!😄
Dave I love this ...
Thank you bro! This is one of the dan's best songs I think 🤔

Thanks Dave Love the Dan... This is a pretty straight forward song, nice one to put in my bag.
Great job Dave on one of my favorite SD songs.
Thanks Dave :-)
That AMajor9/C# voicing for the second verse chord is soooo nice and lush. love it. I was doing just a regular A/C# which doesnt sound good.
My buddy and I want to do this song in our acoustic gig. You make it look easy. Lol
Check our tuning, yep we're good - love it!
Beautifully played love it. I will practice thkx.
Excellent ONE ‼️

Very good thank you. How about Peg, or Black Cow? Ooh I just found your Black Cow video - that's the next two days gone....Cheers
Great job on this no nonsense approach to this song…Most of the other videos I’ve seen are getting this wrong
Thanks for noticing
Love it
Thank you!

Great Dave! Love how you play it. Any chance you would consider writing the Tab?
Thanks and no lol
This was great, thank you! What model Epiphone is that?
Masterbilt EF500R
that sus chord is so weird but so great!!- do you ever fingerstyle it to work the melody in with the chords?
Not usually

The chord is a USBA to USB B Mini. I got that on Amazon too.
any chance to go a bit slower on the lead lines?
you tube has a feature where you can slow it down
Something must be wrong with me. As much as I love music I never learned and instrument.
How did you make that G7?
I think i say. 3rd fret 6th string, 3rd fret 4th string, 4th fret 3rd string
Right you did for the G7. I meant to ask about the G major 7. Thanks great job.
First finger 3rd fret 6th string, middle finger 3rd fret 2nd string, ring finger 4th fret 4th string, pinky 4th fret 3rd string. Mute 5th string and first
