    Found you through ‘Paul and Carol love to travel’. Thoroughly enjoy your style of vlogs, very real and a joy to watch. Loved how you shared your emotions during the series of vlogs and were so open and humble about how fortunate you are to be able to explore the world. Keep up the great work! I’m working my way through your playlists 😉. Me and hubby are off on our first cruise to the Norwegian fjords at the end of June this year with Celebrity. Exciting!

    Been to Amsterdam at least 20 times for business. Never got old. Not usually one for over-the-top hyperbole, but the Anne Frank House was as close to a life-altering experience as I've ever had. Glad you were able to do that tour. Shame you did not have time for the Rijksmuseum.

    Great end to a great series! Can't wait for the UK segment. That said, Carnival docks in some weird places.
    They must be the only large cruise line that docks in Dover for the Europe run. But I just want to emphasize that for a cruiser who hasn't "Shoved off" in over three years, your vlog has kept me sane. Will be on Celebrity for a back-to-back over Christmas and New Year's. Can't wait!

      Have a great time during the holidays on your return to cruising. We are cruising out of LA at the same time. We’ve since learned that Carnival stops at different ports and has less desirable transportation arrangements. We did see a Disney cruise and saga stopping in Dover. So a few do go there.

    We loved Amsterdam back in 2017 . I had to laugh watching you eat the pancakes. We opted for herring, the best I ever tasted. We couldn’t do Anne Frank as tickets were sold out. The canal ride was amazing, the architecture so different from other parts of Europe. People living aboard the barges and bicycles everywhere. I so enjoyed the first leg of your trip and look forward to the rest.

    My husband, two adult sons, and I went to Amsterdam last year. We also found the rubber duck store! We were only able to walk by the Anne Frank house as it was July and very busy. We spent 3 weeks with the “kids” traveling through Europe and then sent them home and spent 10 days in Greece.
    We were on a land vacation so we were easily able to decide to drive up to Amsterdam from Brussels on our way to Germany. However, you have tempted me with the idea of a combined cruise and land vacation in 2024. What cruise line would you recommend if you were to do it over again?
    We are sailing with HAL next month. I love a Guys Burger but I’m hoping Jill is right about Dive-In being the best. 😊

    • @CruisingCanucks
      @CruisingCanucks  2 года назад +2

      We had to book the Anne Frank house months ahead of travelling to Europe as we heard it was busy. The idea of a land/sea Europe trip sounds amazing.
      As for what cruise line - we'd say wait and see how you like Holland America America next month and consider them again if it's a good fit. We did the least expensive option with Carnival, but there's also Princess and a few other Europe based cruiselines to consider. Hopefully you like HAL and that makes the decision easy.

    Great video again, love the music and videography, you have a real talent there. Your comment about not having enough time in Port is so true when in Europe. I kind of think of a cruise as a travel buffet, you get to try all kinds of things then decide what you really like and go get more.

    • @CruisingCanucks
      @CruisingCanucks  2 года назад +1

      A travel buffet - we like that. "Cruising - where your food and ports are served up in a buffet of options and experiences.
      Thanks for the comment on music/video - as we do make an effort to try and match the feel of music and clips used to best represent the experience, but keep it interesting.

    I was interested in the cruise port you arrived at. Not Amsterdam. Was this because water levels were still too low for the Amsterdam port to operate? I know that Amsterdam cruise ships were being diverted to Rotterdam earlier in the summer at least. Was your port (forgotten its name) actually the cruise port used by the city of Rotterdam?
    Thanks for the introduction to Amsterdam. We'll be there for the first time next year, starting a cruise on HAL's Rotterdam. Can't wait.

    • @CruisingCanucks
      @CruisingCanucks  2 года назад +1

      Hopefully you have a great time in Amsterdam. Our Carnival Itinerary was always Ijmuiden - which is an industrial port near Amsterdam and separate from Rotterdam. We have heard others say that Amsterdam water levels are low and were diverted to Rotterdam.

    Hi Jill and Jerry, did you have to book the tickets to the Anne Frank house ahead of time? I see they are only available on the Tuesday 6 weeks beforehand. Also, which port did you sail into? We sail from Rotterdam in April.
    Thanks!

    The port of IJmuiden is just a small port. The town is small, and just a few taxi's. Little transportation. I thought you had a bus transfer from the cruiseline? You did not try Lay's paprika chips??? You should have! Emotional about the Anne Frank house. Well, let me tell you this.....lots of ppl here in the Netherlands should go to. I dont go into that in this comment. My father was in a Japanese camp in the Dutch indies as a 7 year old boy WW2. Evil is here all the time in this world, and unfortunally never will go away. History will tell that. So enjoy life and travelling as much as you can. Thanks for the video! Last thing...you were very lucky with the Dutch weather 🙂

    • @CruisingCanucks
      @CruisingCanucks  2 года назад +1

      Our travel arrangements bounced around right up until the actual date. We were travelling with others and then they booked an excursion, then we decided to do the bus, then the bus schedule wasn't working for us - and so we ended up in a taxi.
      No paprika chips for Mr Canuck and the Mrs isn't snack obsessed.
      You are right that we continue to see evil around the world and suffering is an unfortunate (and too common) human experience. We do all we can to enjoy the short time we have available in our lives.
      We loved Amsterdam, the people, the atmosphere - all of it. Too little time for a special place. Hopefully we return again one day soon.

  • @heidibeechuk9203
    @heidibeechuk9203 2 года назад +2

    How much would you have each paid for a Carnival excursion? So to me, what you paid for the taxi and own tour each was similar and you did it your way!

      Good point - you remind us that we need to try and record the cost of excursions and compare it to the things we do - hopefully we come out ahead.

    • @maedilein6802
      @maedilein6802 2 года назад +3

      Lots of young men in Europe (except maybe in France) wear baseball caps these days. It doesn't indicate that you're a tourist. I think I'd rather be comfortable and wear the hat to avoid sunburn. Standing on the bridge over the canal, the young man on the bike behind them had on a baseball cap.

      For sure much of the wardrobe is functional for battling (what us Canadians found) hot, sunny and humid weather - combined with the fun of hauling vlogging equipment around. However, We were impressed with how much of Europe seems to have a ‘fashion over functionality’ culture (especially around the Med.) Being identified as a Canadian tourist in Belgium and the Netherlands can be a good thing as well - with the history and goodwill there. Regardless, Odds are Mr Canuck will never catch up to the Mrs on fashion.

      Jerry how many crown royals do you think you have drunk on your cruises. Or perhaps I should be asking ,how many guys burgers 🍔 🤔 you have eaten. Lol lol 😆

    • @CruisingCanucks
      @CruisingCanucks  Год назад

      About 20-35oz of Crown per 7 day cruise - so almost 1L (with drink package.) Usually 3-6 Guys burgers per Carnival cruise. We've done 23 of those - so possibly 100 burgers over the years! We've had the drink package on about a dozen cruises - so maybe 10-15L of Crown. :P
