I’ve been with my partner for 10 years. He turned 30 last month & something snapped. He’s now in the hospital getting help after having a complete manic episode & scaring me. This video is calming me so much. I needed to say that. He’s not diagnosed but there’s been signs all his life.

My bf took meds for most of our relationship - 7 years. He has decided to come off it. It is very tricky because I've told him my boundaries. However, I cannot continue seeing his unhappiness towards his meds. I cannot force him to take meds so that he can be in a relationship with me. I'm ok if we need to go our separate ways. He has given so much towards our relationship. We have given so much for each other. 💕

I have been dating a guy w bipolar 1 for three years and it’s one of the hardest relationships i have ever been in. I also suffer from mental illness and i have made so much progress to get better bc we both have professional help , but there’s only so much that can be done either, and i dont see my partner progressing. I am waiting and waiting for him to find a good balance of the right medication and right dosage. Bc w how things affect him, shit can hit the fan at any time to a level 100. And i dont know if i can wait anymore for him to get stable enough for me to feel safe. Or be able to talk to him without him attempting suicide or becoming suicidal. He has a Great support system, and I also try my best to be a good support to him. But idk. I feel so hopeless and alone. I feel like an emotional hostage.

I am so proud of you for the progress you have been making. Know that you cannot control the outcome of your boyfriends health, all you can do is work on yourself, be there for him when you can, but don't overextend yourself, which is so easier said than done. But for real I am so so so proud of you. Keep being you. You're going to be such a blessing in so many pals lives. The struggles you are going through are will make you a much more relatable, and compassionate person. keep it up.
      sorry for the book 😂

I am a 25 year old man with Bipolar 2.
3 months into a new relationship and my bipolar had triggered within 2 weeks.
She is at her breaking point with me and thank God my doctors appointment is next week.
It's not a life I want to live.
My brain chemistry doesn't let me use my true heart. As in my brain prevents me from loving how I truly intend and want to love...
Best of luck to all of us who struggle

heey idk how's everything today but i too have a bipolar bf and i struggle with mental illness too. We've been together for 4 yrs now and shit's hard, especially when i was on a deep depression, but i've improved a lot, and he didn't, so i rlly understand how you feel.
You need a good support system and self care. Go out w yours friends, take care of yourself first and be there for him, cause the progress and the struggles are rlly different for you and him. Patience, empathy and dialogue, a lot of it. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty hard, but it's so fucking worth it.
My bf is not stable yet and i know it's gonna take some yrs for that to happen, so i guess you can't look at it as a "goal", just as something that will happen eventually. Just ask yourself, if it takes 2, 5 or 10 yrs for him to stabilize, would you handle it? would it take a lot of you? bc you don't need to stay if you feel you can't, and that's rlly ok

How are things going a month later?
I just started speaking with a guy day after day, laughter, jokes, flirting, etc.
But he seems distant now. Then he tells me his cousin died. Said he wanted the day to his self. Which, of course is perfectly fine!
But he was getting distant already.
It’s a long distance relationship. So I figured he was anxious about coming down to see me for the first time.
Idk.. I’m not trying to over think it, but I’m trying to learn how to cope through this relationship and learn to be a support system.
We both have our own mental illnesses and traumas.
We are learning to be with each other.
But any advice from anyone would be perfect!

It will never change. You have to accept your relationship as it is or don't stay in it. Bipolar is a disease with no cure. It gets worse with age. I stayed for 10 years because I accepted it is what it is. He has changed and gotten worse in the past year or so. I can no longer sustain this so am ending it. You have to at the end of the day do what is best for you. My fiance will not medicate other than Xanax....so I am out.

Also, once he gets depressed he can stay in his room for days at a time without communicating with me. He has been aggressive, verbally mean no matter how nice I am. He says he will get help but has yet to do so and is not on medication because of the trauma he experienced as a child being forced to be on meds. At this point I am one foot out the door and just don’t know what to do. I care for him and love him but it’s been two years and it’s been draining for me. He doesn’t have friend or family support so I am really his only outlet,

Hey Karis you mentioned suffering from anxiety and seasonal depression. I wonder if you could actually be suffering undiagnosed (inattentive) ADHD. I could be wrong .. I’m currently wondering the same of myself; have seasonal depression and anxiety as well but I think mine come from hyper focus and or zoning out at times when I really need to be present or grounded within Me.. the love of my life also is diagnosed with bipolar (mood disorder).. ADHD persons also highly identify with being highly sensitive persons (HSP) or Empaths ..

I’m just now looking into mental illness becuase I was just recently dealing with someone with a mental illness some days she’s the sweetest and loving and so caring like everything than some days she’s rude , mean , angry, mad have episodes etc I didn’t understand at first it was like she liked and didn’t idk it was so confusing and so exhausting we argued a lot and I just could no longer do it I was losing myself I was becoming a angry person I was exhausted so we split ways .. I knew she had a mental illness but I didn’t think it was serious into I started looking into it 😢 she had medication that she refused to take because it made her sleep a lot and she refused help she didn’t think she need help 😣I’m so sad I love her and really wish I could’ve helped her but we have gotten so mad at each other because I was trying to make her see how she was treating me when she has these episodes but it did nothing but make us argue and we said nasty mean things I don’t think we could come back from 😢

I have depression and anxiety but am very firm with it and was good but now with all this struggle with my fiance my anxiety has sky rocketed. He started treatment and is better but still has moments where he says horrible horrible things. Me having anxiety start overthinking if what he says is how he really feels or it's just random bouts from the bipolar episode. Anybody else go through something similar? They all believe that he’s manipulative and always throws in “ you’re smart, nothing wrong with you” and it’s been so hard on me because I’m in this alone 🥺 I even stepped in and tried to explain to them like okay he’s actually going through these things and he needs to be communicated this way he needs to be talked to this way. You see my boyfriend have schizophrenia and currently diagnosed with bipolar. With schizophrenia you know they have they own beliefs, language words and sometimes they need to be communicated in ways they can understand but his family don’t want to help in no way. I’m so over expecting them to help. But like I said I feel so alone and responsible if anything goes bad.

Hey guys thankyou for this video, me and my girlfriend started a relationship 3 months ago and things have been amazing, my partner has recently entered a depressive state of mind (mania) being very distant, blunt with words, casting issues up randomly which creates an atmosphere, she is medicated and told me she can manage it but is this the bipolar talking? Can she really manage it in the way she thinks she can because from my understanding of bipolar they cannot control when they have manic episodes and what they say or do so I am really struggling to work out which one it is......I want this to work so badly

    • @Karisbell
      @Karisbell  Год назад +1

This is so hard. I am so sorry you all are going through this. Bipolar is definitely manageable, however it can take a very long time to find the right medication for each person. And once you do find the medication that works it might take awhile before you can find the right dosage. One thing that helped me make the decision between staying in the relationship or not was getting educated on the illness. One book both my BF and I recommend is an Unquiet mind by Kay Jameson. This is a difficult illness but if the person is willing to get the right kind of help it’s very manageable.

@@lukeswinny669 we do live together now. We’re gonna get married in September. However we have been dating for 4 years. And 3 of those years were long distance (about 3 hours away) I honestly don’t recommend moving in together. You need your space to take care of yourself. You don’t want to get yourself in a position where you’re the caretaker. It’s important to be there for her but have that physical distance so you don’t lose yourself in the process if that makes sense. But things like this are really up to what each couple need. There is no one right way of going at it.

Hi Karis, the comment made by Ronny Scruggs was done so in error. I’m actually pretty shocked that he sent me this video to watch and then came across this comment.
Throughout our relationship, I have been very kind, caring, and compassionate towards him. I have not “mistreated” or “blamed” him for his sickness.. as I’ve been very understanding and patient with him for almost 4 years. I have taken up for him and even helped him process things, together. I am certified as a Special Educator and have studied it for years , so I understand the mental illness very well and have been sooo supportive of him and his journey. I never ever would give up on him or blame him. Ever! So, it definitely is hurtful to read the comments above.. as I’ve been there for him since before he was diagnosed and even afterwards.
The reason for our break up actually had nothing to do with Ronny’s illness. I’m not sure why this false image has been presented, but it was due to something completely unrelated. I will talk with him offline, but I wanted to make sure that the truth was presented.
Additionally, there have been times when he didn’t take his medicine- which like you said is a deal breaker for you- but I still stayed with him, just to be a support.
So, I hope that my comment sheds light to the situation and that the truth is revealed. In no way do I desire to be combative or argumentative on your post. I simply wanted to present another perspective.

@@Karisbell Ohhh no no you didn’t do anything wrong at all. I definitely don’t feel undermined, offended, or anything. I just wanted you to know that the image presented wasn’t entirely true because I wasn’t sure if his original comment was misleading. I truly truly love and care for Ronny and would never ever break up with someone because of an illness. My heart wouldn’t allow me to do that. 😢 I am very sensitive to those who may be treated unfairly and hate seeing people hurting. And like you said so wonderfully in your message, it takes a support team. I realized that I couldn't do it all alone. It takes professional help and a strong support, just like you mentioned. 🙏
