    I am sorry this might sound like a dumb question... I am looking for a case for my iPhone. I wonder if I should get a case with magsafe or just a normal case without it? How necessary is the magsafe function? Do you recommend that I buy it? Thank you!

    My worries is about getting iPhone hot while changing and making my battery healthy get down fast. So I use the cable with an original 10w iPad Air 2 charger on my iPhone.
    Is ther any difference in these points compared with fast charger and wireless charger?

Agreed that you have to read the fine print to see just what wattage is being dedicated to charge the device. Good video!

      I think it depends on your usage. If you find yourself running out of charge regularly then go battery pack. If you’re good on a daily basis or wind up at a desk during the day when you can just pop it on the MagSafe charger to grab some juice, then that one works. Disclaimer is that I have not had a hands on with the battery packs. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    … this week I got a 20 Eur “off the shelf” with a 20W brick and it reminded me that … a couple years ago I got to the same conclusion as now: It’s a drag to get the puck aligned with my Xʀ
    And when it does align and then in a couple of minutes it simply stops charging at all ? Bummer …
    Maybe it because of the brand (CHOETECH) never heard of it before but it has been a while since I’ve been looking for USB-C power bricks …

  • @slalomie
    @slalomie Год назад

    Really solid video. MagSafe is more of a money making thing that’s maybe slightly more convenient. I can see MagSafe charging dashboard mounts being useful or 2/3 in 1 MagSafe charging pads being convenient since it can charge multiple devices using a single wire and electrical outlet. The MagSafe certified 2/3 in 1 pads tend to be pretty expensive though.

      Great question. As long as you have a decent cable I wouldn’t expect you to see a difference using an extender. Wish I could say definitively but I’m definitely not an electrical engineer, haha. If you try it, definitely let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching!

    • @MyAndrey98

      The longer the cable, the smaller power you're getting. It's pure electrical engineering.
      Think the same, but instead of electricity, you have water. The longer the pipe, the smaller the pressure.

    What’s the battery health like after 1 year of charging with the Magesafe charger?
    Surely not a good idea for Apple to get rid of the lightning port if it’s only going to damage battery health in the long run?

    • @CameronDoughertyTech
      @CameronDoughertyTech  2 года назад +7

      Good question. Just checked mine. After 13 or 14 months of mixed use (some MagSafe, some lightning) I’m at 93% maximum capacity. Apple’s claims on their website are that the battery should retain at least 80% capacity after 500 charges. With that in mind, assuming I charge roughly once per day, I’m not aging the battery any faster than Apple anticipates. I’ve likewise seen anecdotes of people accusing MagSafe and wireless charging of degrading batteries faster but I’ve yet to see any hard data/study proving that it’s the cause rather than coincidence. I wish I had the resources to execute such a study. Maybe someday!

    I really wish you could just lose the cord all together. Charge the magnet (with the cord) detach it from the cord, stick it on the back of your iPhone and GO!! While i do see one or two good things about the way it is now, Personally there’s no use for this until it’s completely “wireless”. For now I’ll just stick with my usb-c lightning cables.

  • @thebandit188
    @thebandit188 2 года назад +18

    The length of the cable really doesn’t matter that much considering you shouldn’t be using the phone while charging. I’ve noticed nobody ever mentions the temperature the MagSafe charging puck gets. It can reach up to 103°, which is below Apple temperature threshold of 113°. But I don’t think prolonged charging at that temperature is good for your battery. Anyone have battery health issues after using the MagSafe?

    • @ItsTimoCruz
      @ItsTimoCruz Год назад +3

      Magsafe actually keeps battery a lot healthier from everyone i asked and also only using it now myself vs people who dont

    • @thebandit188
      @thebandit188 Год назад +3

      @@ItsTimoCruz I can assure you MagSafe does not keep the battery “healthy”. MagSafe increases charging temperature by a lot compared to wireless charging. The best way to charge your phone and keep your battery optimal is by using the cord that came with the iPhone. I use the stock cord along with a 20W adapter for fast charging and the phone stays cool.

    • @MarcusDET

      Who says you shouldn’t use your phone while charging? Fake news. Your battery will degrade no matter what.

    There are many thoughts that run through my head… Truthfully I think MagSafe as a concept is GENIUS*
    However please don’t remove my lightning cable… If it goes to USB C, I’m up for it, but remove the port… SURE* Water resistance everything, less points of failure* the amount of times I’ve had random stuff go into the port and had to clean it out…
    I know we are gonna end up with MagSafe only*
    But my one big question is this :
    When they announced it my initial reaction was : Can I stick my phone to my fridge? (Spoiler alert, No ya can’t, it weighs too much.)
    But could you : stick the puck to the fridge or something else magnetic?
    I was thinking maybe* Get a white board kind of thing, anything I’m not using, magnetically attached to it… from the IPad, to the iPhone, the charger etc. providing it’s got strong enough magnets,
    That would be awesome* and in a lower space environment, Not having shelves for instance, and just a dedicated space to attach them to, makes a deal of sense to me.
    Even if the phone can’t stick (I have 12 pro max.) on its own, I’m sure MagSafe puck attached to the phone could hold the phone* if that’s all it takes.
