SHOW NOTES
In today’s episode of the Atheist Experience, Matt Dillahunty is joined by Dr. Darrel Ray!
The first caller is Aaron from TX who wants to accuse Matt of being a bully. If you are going to accuse somebody of something, please have clear examples ready to go.
Up next is Clifford from VA who has recently escaped from religion through applying skepticism, but is concerned about his mother’s religious religious beliefs and the impact they may have on the caller’s son. Here is the article like that Dr. Ray mentioned during the show: tiny.cc/rfrrecovery
Up next is Anthony from IL who wants to know how Atheists have disproven all gods as well as claims that they have scientific and personal evidence to support the existence of the Christian God.
Next is Alvin from NC who claims that a Pew Research study shows that Christians live seven years longer than Atheists. Assuming the finding in the study is true, the actual results do not necessarily explain the reasons why this is the case.
Next is Lexi from OK who recently became an Ex-JW, and has questions about how they should identify themselves given that they no longer accept the claims by the organization, but are still struggling to detach themselves from the indoctrination.
Up next is Marquis from NC who wants to talk about their motivations behind their decision to leave their religion. Thanks for calling Marquis!
Next is George from AZ who believes that they have evidence of Jesus being crucified. The caller’s understanding of biblical history and the Christian tradition are lacking and is very confused about the definition of the word “anonymous.”
Next is Brandon from AZ claims that Atheists look at science using rose colored glasses when it comes to evidence for Jesus. “Hey Ya’ll, Watch This” is not evidence for the truth of biblical claims.
Next is Oliver from Brazil who is looking for advice on how to break free of indoctrination, specifically with regards to human mortality. As Dr. Ray says, exposing yourself to other ideologies is a great way of teaching your brain that you don’t have to be bound to one belief system.
Our final caller is Honey from NC who wants to talk about their fear of leaving religion. Religion connects directly to our baser emotions and thrives on those. This is why religious belief doesn’t necessarily correlate to intellect or analytical abilities. It’s going to take time to break free, but there are resources out there to make the journey easier.

Matt: Did you listen to what I said?
Caller: Yes I did.
Narrator: The caller was in fact NOT listening.
Well, they at least listened to Matt asking if they listened, so that's something...

Wow Anthony acknowledged Matt’s initial point then asked the very same thing but flipped like it never happened. Yikes.
No amount of logic can get in the way of the almighty script lol
It is truly saddening that an adult can be so bad at conversation. I hate to presume but perhaps Antony came with the intention with a prepared statement and didn't understand ( and that is the kindest way of saying it) that he had effectively lost the argument at the first statement but carried on talking anyway.
EXACTLY!
...welcome to nearly every call...
This is what happens when you are not listening but waiting for your turn to talk/preach.
OMG!!!! Matt’s been leading people away from god? Who knew?
I know right? What an eye opener!
When did this start?
Who's will know that Matt is more powerful than "god's", right?! 🤣
@@wtfjesus8251 hahahah.
What did I laugh at. I don't even understand what you wrote.
If you expand the contractions and add punctuation, it says "Who is, will know that Matt is more powerful than God is right. " I can get behind that 🤣
I was indoctrinated as a child into a crazy Pentecostal Church, we had everything but the rattlesnakes. 100% it was insane. I escaped. You can too. My brain-washing will always be part of me, that's just something that I deal with. The hardest part about it is dealing with my anger, I'm talking about a 50-year journey that led me to where I am today. Trust me I can tell stories that you do not want to hear. Lunatics with a Bible in one hand and a club in the other. "Spare the rod spoil the child" People like me are the reason that Matt, Daryl and so many others do the show. 😞
My dad's side of the family is from west Virginia and he grew up pentecostle. When my mom met him, he was speaking in tounges and the whole bit. She has always been a sceptic and pretty much told him that if they got married, that shit would not fly. I was raised very secular and was given a choice to choose what I believe as I grew up, and my dad's now a sceptic, rational humanist. Good thing for sceptic moms.

Hearing from lots of people who are deconverting is really uplifting
Religion only serves to further divide the human race. We already have so many borders (both physical and artificial) between us. We can discuss the differences between us, if those differences are real. With mythology, the divisions are magnified, and every religion claims that they are "correct".

"Do you realise you're leading people away from God?"
Anthony is one of the funniest callers in the shows history.
Matt should have said "yes, but impartially. I am leading them away from belief in ALL gods, not just belief in your god".
@@cnault3244 People will see your comment and then think about it.
Anthony thinks Matt is turning people away from "god" when in fact nobody has done a better job of turning people away from silly superstitious BS than Anthony himself.
1:00:31 “George George, if you would shut the fuck up you little runt!” 😂😂😂😂 that killed me
That wasn't funny.
Kudos to Matt for acknowledging when he messed up. There were maybe a few too many qualifiers for why he was frustrated. But he was sincere about where he crossed a line, and I respect that. I also understand why a lot of viewers might enjoy seeing a kid "put in his place", and he was ill informed on basically all of his arguments, but I firmly believe we shouldn't talk down to young people, and I think ultimately Matt feels similarly.
Agreed.
Especially when someone had just accused him of being a bully haha, classic Matt well played.
@@ookeekthelibrarian Also, we need to stop accepting excuses for people that put themselves into the situation. Matt didnt call George to show the world George's ignorance, George did that to himself by calling into the show.
It was clear George was not calling in as a kid looking to learn, but as an adult looking to preach. If you want to blame someone other than George, then look to the adults that made him think he was ready to act like one when he clearly was not.
@@fomori2
I mostly agree. George either couldn’t or wouldn’t listen to what Matt or the cohost said. Matt called George a “little runt” which was bad and he shouldn’t have done that. It makes Matt look like he is trying to win by intimidation and that is no way to conduct oneself and only gave George fodder to claim Matt was angry. Matt apologized three times so I think we can forgive him. I do. As for George, he is smart I’m sure but really mixed up when it comes to logic and reasoning. I hope he follows the doctors advice a does some more reading about science and logic.
@@evidencebased1 I literally agree with everything you said. I think Matt slipped and fell to an old trope of dismissing young people on the basis that they are young alone. He recovered, and he apologized. This young man's arguments were faulty I. So many ways, and I do not think Matt was wrong in criticizing them. It was just the personal attack that was wrong, and I give him kudos for recognizing that.
As terrifying as it might be to realize we are totally on our own, it is far more comforting to think that we are on our own than dealing with a God who doesn't give a shite.
Man that is really true
"As terrifying as it might be to realize we are totally on our own, it is far more comforting to think that we are on our own than dealing with a God who doesn't give a shite."--
Sorry to say this, but I think that is what Dennett would call a deepity.
Generally, a deepity has (at least) two meanings: one that is true but trivial, and another that sounds profound, but is essentially false or meaningless and would be "earth-shattering" if true. To the extent that it's true, it doesn't have to matter. To the extent that it has to matter, it isn't true (if it actually means anything)
@@fomori2 what are the two meanings that fit those descriptions then? Because essentially saying you would rather have the painful truth over a comfortable lie is not a deepity
I think God cares about you
@thegreen iguana I can respond in a few ways. I can give you a quick passive aggressive comeback that would start probably a short meaningless dialogue. Or, maybe I can say truthfully that I don't exactly know why God does what he does. I only know that I'm a Christian for eternity, but not everyone else is. The problem you mention is called the hiddenness of God. You can Google scholarly writings and read entire books on the subject. Hours long videos are at your disposal on RUclips and elsewhere. It won't appease you to chat with me about it.
I love Matt’s passion and dedication to the truth. No one who read the entire Bible could remain a christian and be an honest person.
I was wondering if Anthony was a troll considering how intellectually devoid he came across.
Gasoline drawers was my tip off. Lol
Reveal himself to the people is another clue.
I think Anthony is a troll, but too stupid to actually be a troll successfully. If trolling is a case of making the host look perfectly rational and come across like just another moron calling in, he certainly achieved that.
@@Heathen.Deity. Yeh the only thing he was successful at was making people question as to weather he was a troll or not, he failed in every other department.
Probably the dumbest most ill-informed, mentally crippled caller I've ever heard. How stupid to not even know he's callibg into an atheist show. Cretin.
I think Anthony and George are competing for the worst call of the day!
Anthony seems unable to accept the fact that there are people who don't believe his god exists, so threats about what that god will do to them are vacuous.
EDIT:
What a great caller Lexi was. So honest and open. So refreshing.
That caller was cringy af to hear. Can't believe I used to be that blind jeez
They really can't handle it, can they?
They really don't want God belief to be a choice. They want it to be as real as gravity even if it is obvious it is not.
Poor Anthony has blinders and earmuffs on.
I don’t understand how they don’t have to disapprove other gods but wants atheist to prove that god doesn’t exist, Baffling to be honest
Anthony has probably never had his beliefs challenged and is probably surrounded or thinks he's surrounded by people who believes as he does. To him god belief is associated with everything good, and non belief associated with everything "evil". His intellectual world is probably very small. He probably has never been really exposed to opposing views.
I'm really glad Matt addressed his "little runt" mistake. Thank you for realizing your mistake, admitting it, and apologizing.
George asked Matt why he was getting angry but all throughout this call, it was from George that I could hear snark and anger and self-righteous indignation seething out of his tone of voice - seems to me like it was him who was angry throughout this call
typical teenage behavior reacting to authority
When theists project, they project deliberately. 🤭
I went back to the Narock call the first caller was referring to and within 3-4 minutes, there were several questions that the caller clearly either did not understand, was not thinking about, or just dodging. Matt cut him off every time to re-state the question and get him to actually focus instead of reciting a non-answer.
I don't know what else you're supposed to do in that position? It's a waste of the hosts', the audience's and the other callers' time to ask a someone a question and then let them go on a long diatribe that doesn't answer the question at all. Maybe in a one on one conversation that's fine, but this a completely different dynamic. If a caller is misunderstanding, dodging, or can't stay on topic, I don't see why it's a problem for Matt to stop them, re-state the question, and ask them to answer it.
Yeah, if I asked someone for directions and instead they start telling me the time, I wouldn't consider it rude to interrupt and correct their misunderstanding.
But some people apparently think that interrupting in ANY circumstance is way out of line.
@@kaiza6467 I don't know how people can listen to callers like George for example and think Matt is the one with the issue. That entire exchange about atheist scholars accepting Jesus existed just shows the absolute state of the listening ability of the average theist who calls this show.
I'm not interested in watching a show that's bloated by Matt sitting there quietly while callers bring up irrelevant points all because they aren't actually listening to what Matt is saying. I don't think any of the people complaining want to watch that either- yet in most instances (including the example Aaron brought up) that's what's happening. There are other hosts on the show who do this, and imo it's borderline unlistenable.
@@shiny460 George was trying to follow a script, and because he doesnt think for himself, the only way he knows how to bring Matt back on script is assert the strawman he needs to attack. Matt knows this tactic and was destroying the strawmen as they showed up and George's programming said to create another strawman.
What we heard was the circle of creating and destroying strawmen and that is frustrating for people that have watched many episodes because every call ends the same way, Matt finally gets frustrated the caller wont stop strawmaning him and the caller is frustrated because they dont even understand why Matt is mad at their behavior.
@@ookeekthelibrarian I guess it is caused by mix of lack of experience on being a host and an attempt to find out a new diverse conversational method (avoiding to become a matt 2,0)
Thank you for being true intelectual compare whinny babies in comentary who fanaticly see manners better than issue at hand!
George: confirmed for runt. He absolutely had that coming, snarky little know-it-all with his 4chan-derived "you mad?" questioning.
George is a 15 year old child. Matt had no business name-calling a high-schooler and there is zero justification for what Matt said and he knew it. Matt should be ashamed of himself. Anyone who thinks Matt's actions were justified should probably take stock of their value system. We are better than that! Or, at least, we should be.
@@tommyhayes8702 Give me a break. He chose to phone in and play with the adults, and chose to conduct himself like a total asshole. We don't need to clutch our purses and act all aghast about this name calling as though it's some heinous thing. Yes, clearly, we can all agree it was bad from a diplomacy point of view and whatnot, but at the same time, the little shit *was* being a little shit. Not everyone's an angel.
@@johnnypopstar To be fair to Matt too, he had no idea he was 15 when he said it, so it doesn't matter. The age is irrelevant anyway. But I still don't like that he called him that and I don't like when you people justify that shitty behavior. Name calling is never cool. But you can go on about your day believing that. I thought Matt liked the conversations to be civil? But again nobody's perfect. I would say nobody's perfect, not nobody's an angel. Matt was frustrated and impatient, and I think we can all agree it would have been better if he didn't call him that, but Matt made a mistake. And he apologized for it at the end too. The apology doesn't justify it, but it was an apology. And whether or not George accepts the apology is his problem, not Matts, and it doesn't mean Matt is shitty if he doesn't accept it, because offering the apology is enough from Matts side. If George doesn't accept it, he can just never call Matt again. I still don't appeciate that he called him that, and if you do, you're kind of a jerk. But again it was settled with an apology. I just don't like taking the "Matt's perfect" side all the time, because he's not. And you know it.

I'm so sick of Christians wailing about how Bart Ehrman thinks Jesus existed. All Bart Ehrman does is site consensus, and that consensus is largely made up of Christians who have signed statements of Faith for a particular Christian university. The cemetery is full of humans who won "the greatest rewards" of theology, and no one knows their names or even knew how they existed. Please use this time to define yourself and your life to be something meaningful to others and your loved ones. The more meaningful you are to others, the longer your legacy will be living on.
@@ThEjOkErIsWiLd00 That is such a wonderful question thank you so much for asking!
What is a legacy to you? In my mind, a legacy is leaving something behind that tells a story about you to others. That story can either be inspiring or great, or horrible. Either way, that legacy will live on in history long past your limited life here.
I'd like to think of it as a mark of how you left a campsite for others. If you leave the site as a group of cabins, your future children could be building that site up to being a town or a city. Of course, you could be leaving it empty and clean and others could be able to enjoy the site and build on it.
However, some humans leave it like a wasteland as in Fallout 4 a toxic waste dump. We've had enough humans who have left their legacies this way. This led to the extinction of many species, and pollution.
So, a legacy is a gift you will be leaving for your kids well into the future to help your kind to survive and prosper or to suffer.
I hope all of that makes sense and answers your question?

Deut. 13:6-9 - If your brother, son, daughter, wife, or friend tempts you to worship other gods, “thou shalt surely kill him.”
Deut. 13:15 - If the people of any city worship other gods, you must slaughter them all, including their cattle.
Deut. 17:5 - Any man or woman who worships other deities of sun, moon or stars must be stoned to death.

That’s around the same time I stopped being a Catholic. Could be he grows out of it
There seems to be a lot of new questioning atheists/agnostics around the age of 20 or so. There’s still time. I mean there’s always time, but it seems pretty common when leaving home people may have time to seriously consider religious questions whereas it’s harder to do that when you’re a kid / still in your family home. I became an atheist at 12, but my family wasn’t that religious. That might not always be possible for kids in actual religious families.
or be married and have kids....yeah
??? How about saying that to Anthony. Jesus. How do you know he'll be worse in 10 years?
Likely he’s afraid to research anything that might say he’s wrong. He may change never know. Theists lose a ton of young members around college age.
I do t think an apology is really necessary to the 15 year old. He wasn’t just being a 15 year old. He was acting like an arrogant Christian who knows to the core of their being they are right and anyone who doesn’t believe in their deity is wrong. He needed to be slapped down a bit. Maybe that will take out a bit of his holier -than-thou self-righteousness.
I agree that he was very arrogant. He also just wanted to argue for talking points in favor of Christianity. But he had no intention of having an honest dialogue with a real exchange of ideas.
Matt should not have called him a runt just because he made it clear that he's 15. But Matt was right in aggressively responding to the teen's combative approach.
And no, I don't think the boy actually walked away having taken any of the advice they gave him into true consideration.

It may scare naive children and young adults but knowing what we know as atheists (those of us who have contemplated and contemplated and contemplated and already been through religion and didn't care for it) Anthony threatening us with hellfire is like someone threatening me with being raped by Zeus.

Anthony is the quintessential script caller. No interest at all in a real discussion, just a list of "gotcha" questions that he thinks an atheist could only answer one way, and every. single. time. Brendan appears to be talking about the Prophecy of Seventy Weeks in Danial 9:24-27. It makes no mention of anybody riding any kind of animal anywhere. It does mention the Messiah.
The problem is that I don't see how the timing lines up at all. The best guess was that the backdrop was set for 538 BCE. The destruction of the temple was in 70 CE, 608 years later. If we're interpreting "week" as "7 years" (with very little justification, but going with it), there is mention of 70 weeks, 62 weeks, and a single week, but the destruction of the temple occurred 87 "weeks" later, Jesus's birth of approximately 4 BCE (which was a compromise between Matthew and Luke who place his birth 10 years apart from each other) was approximately 77 "weeks", and Jesus's death if at 33 would be 29 CE, or 81 "weeks" later. The prophecy also says in verse 26 that the town and sanctuary would be destroyed with a flood, but it was rampaged in war.
So... a hindsight 20/20 prophetic fulfillment then. Nice
Anthony, George, Brandon: if I was your god I’d be very disappointed in you. Answer direct questions directly. Provide evidence when asked. Don’t respond with an essay. Don’t presume you’ll be disagreed with because of what you think the host’s “worldview” is.

Very good point and I see this same pattern every week on this show, or similar shows, and in conversations I have. A question is asked, and they respond with something unrelated. Their argument is addressed and they switch subject.

However his script only allowed black or white. After numerous times of repeating his nuanced answer, Matt stated George didn't listen. As soon he stated that George didn't listen George anwered with (58:52) "why you mad?". I think that's a very insightfull question. Why would he ask that? George continued to misquote Matt after that...
Agree, it absolutely felt like George was on a script. It also explains why the conversation didn't flow normally-- like you mentioned, the script wasn't flexible enough and George wasn't quick enough to improvise. Matt didn't call it out but you could tell he was suspicious and did not allow George (hense the script) to control the exchange.
Only real men recognize when they’ve been wrong and then apologize for it. The world needs more people with such character. Matt has set an excellent example for us all! 💕❤️
Well, don't let Matt see your comment. He will flip out and call you a misogynist pig who is stuck in prehistoric macho thinking. How dare you use the term "real men". In fact just using "men" might cause him to ban you.
You aren't allowed to think of men and women or male and female when generalizing people.
He's gone past the pronoun phase. Telling someone to be a man or fight like a man or recognizing stereotypical categories is a big no no.
The runt was fighting with himself, you tried to help hi, don’t beat yourself up dude!
To date, Matt and Seth Andrews have been my biggest hero’s in my de-conversion. I’ve added a new one today. Dr. Ray, you said so many things I needed to hear. Your example of learning English and Christianity made something click in my brain. I actually cried. My favorite episode to date. :)
I've been reading about religious wars in Europe and I remember why atheism is so important.
@Viktor Tandofsky Ah, the long dead atheist atrocities fallacy. Thank you for resurrecting it Dr. Frankenstein. 🤦♂️
@Viktor Tandofsky do you understand the difference between a person committing a crime versus a person committing a crime because of their religion?
What tenet of Atheism caused any atrocities? Hint: Atheism has no tenets.
@Viktor Tandofsky nothing specifically to do with promotion of atheism, and in the modern era, it's easier than ever to kill more people.
@Viktor Tandofsky they were not atheists, they were personnality cults, stalin was put at the level of a god, same for Mao, and the fact that some dictators did not believe in god(s), tells you nothing about the population they were rulling over .... there were more christians in russia under stallin, than there were atheists....
thats what originally lead me away from christianity but being an adult watching the world surrounding me I can say religious violence, manipulation and warfare lives on to this day
The Dillahunty Dodge - Answering your question before you ask it.
Loved this episode and I watch this RELIGIOUSLY every Sunday 👌😜
I get the irony there mate 👈🏾
Matt isn’t a bully. He absolutely is a ‘general’ or something of the like, in that he causes the call to stay on topic.
I think many don’t like his technique, but more of us like it. His goal is to get caller to state their claims as well as possible. That ALWAYS includes 1.defining terms 2. Staying on topic 3. Holding a caller to the statements they make.
I agree - Matt is NOT a bully. I like and approve his technique - it helps the caller much more than damages them. When such callers re-listen to the tape of their call their deflections and meanderings and errors will be glaring and obvious to them. If Matt did not interrupt and point out to the caller where and when they are going off track they would not learn anything from the call, either during or after the fact, and neither would us listeners learn too.
I was going to write a comment about Matt's apology, but I was glad to see that he re-addressed it at the end. I think it adequately addressed anything I was going to bring up. You can be frustrated with tact.
Much love y'all!
Alvin-NC. Is that the same Alvin who found 100 hidden messages in the first sentence in genesis? I love that guy!
His conversation with Shannon Q... he brought a spoon to a drone war.
I've thought it for a long time, but thank you for adding the time stamps so it's a lot easier to skip the atheist callers. If you won't stop taking them at least I don't have try to skip them manually.
Poor George. He's a programed little Jesus robot. Whoever brainwashed him did a fine job.😢
@John Wood coupled with the testosterone push he's going to experience or already is this is fertile grounds for a lot of erruptive violence and anger
Anthony's script is obvious
For the sake of fairness, the 15 year old now needs to apologise for quite rapidly trying to devolve the discussion to the level of “u mad bro?”
How does Matt do this week after week without losing his mind? I'd give myself 3 weeks before I inevitably cracked, ripped all my clothes off, then ran away into a forest, flailing my arms and screaming incoherently.
I tipeth my hat to you, sir.
Easy. He validates himself through it.
He has the patience of Job (LOL). He explains the same stuff over and over. It must be like teaching an animal a trick. I could not do it for long. I’d be bored out of my mind.
@@phillipstroll7385he doesn't need validation. He has a job to do and he does it. Your comment says more about you.
@@digbycrankshaft7572 really? What's his job exactly? Also, just so you know, one can both have a job and validate themselves with it.
I bet $10 that George is a member of the Darth Dawkins fan club.
He might even be below their knowledge level that math problem he brought up is from a creationist site.
The problem with their math is that natural processes tend to happen over and over again. So life beginning had many chances. And since no one knows how life began we can't accurately calculate the math.
So he might as well just say you atheists are wrong because big number
You know, whenever people bring up the fine-tuning argument, bring up Douglas Adams' puddle dialog. That would shut that discussion right down. The universe was NOT made for YOU!
They have before and sometimes still do. Theists generally are either too dim to understand it, or lie and claim it doesn’t apply. Motivated reasoning is a hell of a drug.
You must not have been around long...
Maybe a Christian would then bring up “The Trouble with Puddle Thinking,” by astronomers Geraint Lewis and Luke Barnes?
Yea the fact that without modern medicine childbirth and infant mortality are literally a nightmare should tell someone there is no fine-tuning.
The bible's answer for why childbirth is so painful.....because of the curse of Eve.
This is why women had to fight for the right to have anesthesia during childbirth.
Because lots of clergy thought women deserved to suffer.
Dr Darrel is great! For Oliver when it comes to coming to grips with understanding we will one day not exist, people say "doesn't that bother you?" I say "about as much as it bothered me the 13 billion years before I existed" There was a time before me, there will be time after me. There will be a time this planet, this solar system and probably this universe no longer exists, it does not bother me. Mind boggling to know that time will come, but it will come.
Pretty much, but it still sucks.
@@jsonaut Yes, suck it does. Growing old, dying... it all SUCKS. Birth, school, work, death... next!
First George and then Brandon, I feel Ive sobered up a little to some parts of the US I had only heard about before. Good thing I got so many wholesome community interactions as well!
Love that conversation with Lexi. Darrel is brilliant!
01:14:21 I find hilarious how Matt says sorry and then proceeds to justify himself. It was like saying "I know what I said wasn't nice but you kind of deserved it... bitch" I get why the caller got confused after that 😂
Yeah, it's bulshit. He knows he didn't mean the apology.
@@JacobHayden911 I think Matt meant the apology, at least to me it seemed sincere, but he also couldn't get away from his position that the dude was acting like a punk and thoroughly deserved to be called a name. But Matt felt bad for doing it. But also felt like it needed doing. lol just one of those paradoxes in life
Matt's apology at the end of the show was definitely better.
@@TheRealFumigator I definitely don't think he deserved runt comment, but he was definitely acting like a smartass, for sure. Matt tries to have as much patience as possible with these people and mistakes happen.
Insults after apologies doesn't work
If Ben Shapiro inhaled helium and tried to speak, he’d sound like George from AZ.
Yesss
Lol....I hear you 😂😂😂
I always assumed that if Ben Shapiro took helium, he’d speak in a frequency outside the range of human hearing.
Which would be an improvement tbh.
No helium needed. This is Ben
Ben Shapiro is the voice of Saddam Hussein on South Park
George gets an F. Watch this call back, laddie, and if you’re the slightest bit as rational and clever as you think, you’ll realise you came in loaded for bear, and you didn’t. frickin. listen to the nice man.
He's impossibly young and full of misplaced conviction. Spider Man has as much reality as Jesus. Peter Parker had a real job in a real city, went to a real university. Radioactivity and spiders are real too.
He didn’t like being taken off his script.
@@eileendover3938 They never do.
@Apistevist SS1964 Where are the talking horses and ants in the Bible?
@@eileendover3938 And it probably is because he's listened to some charismatic Apologists and just wants to copy their script instead of analyzing the apologetics before discussing it.
“Yes, Anthony: You big strapping intellectual, you got me” 🤣🤣☠️
Are we sure George isn't Ben Shapiro?
I was thinking the same
I wonder if Anthony is really as stupid as he seems. Like I'm genuinely concerned for his safety as a potential Darwin Award winner. "I walked into the middle of the street, why didn't traffic stop for me? Don't they know they will be judged for running me over?"
Anthony's mind is so poisoned. What a waste of life. 😞
The kid's got time to snap out of it.
@@svenred6eard757 The problem is that all the evidence points to Anthony unwilling to listen which leads to learning.
Agreed. These people devoid of explanation at all. Anthony? The 😂🤣😂
Right mate. Truly silly. My christian wife loves to get me off. But she really doesn't care if I am an atheist. She thinks I will live forever, but I have PV. My sis already died. I will be lucky if I get 5 more years. 😂🤣😂 so many stupid callers here. A mathmatics caller. 😂🤣😂 AsAn engineer. Hilariouus. This woman caller, good answer. She seems sweet. I still find women more hardy than lots of men. My sister flight just as tough. In basic training. I did a mile half mile in 936. Only 10% get that medal.
Non black believers. Very interesting.
To the Oliver's of the world, when I was a Christian I believed I would meet Jesus and believed I might live forever, but that idea scared me. Wouldn't a perfect life get boring? If there were challenges would they be fixed? So I was ok if we just got an extra 100 years or so. Once I chose to not worship god because of Slavery, rape of young females, killing of innocent babies and so on( all things indisputably in the Christian bible). I hoped I would simply be cast in to a Lake of Fire and be destroyed. Now as an Atheist for the last 15 years I am happy and Ok with my mortality. I don't fear death, I do fear dying, as in suffering, but I have no more, concern for not existing after I die then I did before I was born.
Dr Darrel has become my favorite co-host
I absolutely love this show. I have been watching and listening for around 7 months now. I like to think I could take on a conversation with a religious person like Matt does and destroys them. But I’m just not that good at holding my own in situations and I’m not well educated to do so. Thank you for opening my eyes to atheism and teaching. Much love ✌️🏴
Happy birthday mate ray.. I am a bit behind you this month. And years. I found as a vet, I find my place not so painful, but really not so hurt by my childrens indoctrination. It is why they feel I am not so smart. Truly dumb as Anthony. Like my children.
HAHAHA this episode is GOLDDDDDD!!
This is the best comedy show you can watch 🥇🇦🇺😎❤️
George is a good example of American education at its best, let's continue to cut spending for schools.
Gotta love the people who call in w/o understanding the show at all.
I love that Matt did the Sean Bean "One does not simply" hand gesture with George.
I remember reading an article about how working your brain or thinking more than average can lessen your life span. No idea if it’s true, but if so that must be why the religious live 7 years longer💁
25:05 it appears that Matt is more powerful than the Holy Spirit now. Praise Matt 🤣🤣🤣
I think it a clever idea to have the caller verbally greet both hosts at the start of each discussion.
It reinforces, for caller and audience, that the caller is indeed talking to fellow humans, not demons incarnate.
Is good. Forward, ever!
JESUITS: "Give me the child until seven, and I'll give you the man."
Wasn't it also the Jesuits who proclaimed that "No child's behind shall be left"?
Ouch!
no. the jesuits were the ones the larger church wanted to eradicate by imprisonment and murder.
No
Matt: “How did you disprove all the other gods?”
Anthony: “It’s not my position to disprove all the other gods”
………
Also Anthony: “What evidence do you have that god doesn’t exist?”
🤦♂️
Edit: lol, it seems like every time I comment on an Axp video I comeback a few days later to see hundreds of replies, and about 50% of them all from one _really_ determined theist. 😂
That was gold, wasn’t it.
He is good example "how indoctrination works"!
@Frances Snowflake where did Matt say that?
@Frances Snowflake holly shit !! Looks like you completly and utterly missed the point too XD damm
@Frances Snowflake XD and apparently you still don't get the point XD even after people litterally spelled it out for you...You are litterally the reason i fear for the future me humanity XD
Great show, Matt you're right they call with nonsense and cannot explain themselves. Also they refuse to answer simple questions honestly because they know you are right!
Thank you for not unnecessarly whinning about his well desevered on callers atitude and care about actual substance and context. I appreciate that from true intellectual!
I feel for the caller Clifford, I been in a similar situation. Take care of you and your son brother, your grandma lived her life.
I really like Dr. Ray’s way of subtly dealing with what they already suspected to as true. He’s a reverent guide to the misfortunate post-believer’s to a nuanced auto-didacticed mindset.
matt is the world greatest host an icon .. out of the box own style of hosting a show
this is an inter conversing show on a mythical topic
wouldn't anyone be angry if they don't answer the question and continues talking their own thing ... i would
Insufferable George had a script, and an audience egging him on. You were way patient with him.
Why do you think he had an audience? He was just an ignorant 15 year old, nothing surprising.
I effin love this show 🙂
Anthony went directly to the emotional blackmail theist card when cornered. Besides threats, ultimatum, and scare tactics does your god actually have any cogent arguments to convince us of his existence without pointing a gun at us?
Every 15 y/o finds "grownups" stupid and uninformed. Oscar Wilde said "I am not young enough to know everything."
I wish I was mad about the runt thing, but one of my guilty pleasures in life is watching AE and seeing theists get torn down, even in juvenile ways. I wish I was a better person, but I'm trash.
Why feel bad? lol Runt?
Definition: an undersized or weak person.
Shoulder shrug at a naughty word in Kindergarten. It's on the same level as saying "poop". I'm not saying to use it in your arguments against theists, but if you're getting frustrated and slip with something like that? Yeah, just laugh about it and move on. People stressing about this are snowflakes and make a community look weak.
I appreciate dr. Ray's pathos and approach
Alvin-NC - another theist that twists the facts to fit the nonsense in his head.
more concerning he thinks the nonsense in his head is fact
Before the re-upload, Aaron (the caller) was in the comments calling Matt a "tub of lard", "man-child coward" and threatening to track him down and hurt him.
He also seemed to be convinced that he perfectly answered Matt's questions, and that the only reason Matt was interrupting him was because Matt was just too scared.
So let's look at what was actually said in the call:
Matt: "What do you think is bullying?" (first time asking the question)
Aaron: "Oh, yeah, I, uh, I'm a fan, actually.... of the show. I've been a fan for a couple years, ummm.... I've noticed, a couple of things that I uh, bothered me that I didn't like, but I always put it off to the side, and I always..."
*interruption 1*
Matt interrupted Aaron here, because he asked him a specific question and he stammered through preamble instead of answering.
Matt: "What is bullying?" (second time asking)
Aaron: "Well, umm... just last week, you dropped a video on the channel about umm... er... a guy named Narok, and Narok wasn't an intellectual giant, I'm not saying that, but there are..."
*interruption 2*
Here Matt interrupted because instead of answering "when you interrupt people", Aaron started talking about whether or not a previous caller was an "intellectual giant."
Matt: "What is it that you consider bullying?" (third time asking)
Aaron: "*still talking* -keep talking you kept interrupting him.... Yeah that's what I'm talking about."
Matt: "Yeah, if that's what you consider BULLYING, then you can fuck right on off, because I'm hosting a show here, and I'm asking- (about to explain why he needs to interrupt people, when Aaron interrupts him about Matt saying the word "fuck")
Matt: "Oh, you have a problem with me cursing?"
Aaron: "I have a problem with you BULLYING people!"
Matt: "I get that Aron, that's why I keep asking, WHAT do you consider bullying?"
Aaron: "SEE?!"
At this point Aaron was put on hold.
So no, Matt wasn't just being a "Man child tub of lard" who kept interrupting because he's a coward who's terrified of answering questions, Aaron just wasn't answering him directly.
And ironically if Aaron hadn't interrupted him, Matt would have explained why he has to interrupt on occasion as the host of a show with limited time.
Aaron the 15yo caller, was in the comments? Damn I missed that.
To help children and teens to recover from religion is MUCH easier. Would have loved to have tried.
@@kimsland999 The 15yo caller was George from Arizona.
@@shelbyvillerules9962 Oh yeah that was George. Thanks. Let me know if George comes on LOL
Matt certainly does have a problem. He's very impatient and quick to anger. He could interrupt people for the sake of time and still be less of a dick about it. Love the guy, faults and all, but he struggles with accepting feedback.
So you mean he was bullying Matt? Interesting.
Listening to some of these callers reminds me of the story about the Pope and an atheist having an intense conversation about religion when a clearly frustrated Pope points at the man and says, "you Sir are like a blindfolded man in a dark room looking for a black cat that's not there" to which the atheist replied, "and you Sir are like a blindfolded man in a dark room looking for a black cat that's not there, and finding it".
That's awesome. I might steal that one.
@@J05TI You're most welcome to use it my friend.
I really, really love this! It's so perfect! Thank you!
If I was doing Matt's job, I'd be saying "fuck" a whole lot more, but then you hear callers talking honestly about their deconversions and you hear how much value this honest advice adds to their lives.
25:00 Anthony DOESN'T CARE what Matt says, Anthony just wants to Preach. "What a maroon" - Bugs Bunny.
Anthony was on a script. These are the kind of people who are incapable of answering any live question. Almost funny.
