Notice that if you overpay by ordering Macs with higher RAM and SSD than the base you get severely underpaid during the trade program. They are bastards.
That is demand. The market for high-spec Macs is much lower than that for base models, which make up over 66% of the market. So, if you look on eBay, this is confirmed. I think the YT techie community live in their own world, and they flex on 8Gb and such-like, but in the real world, people do not care and want the lowest price. So, people are unwilling to pay that much extra for higher storage/RAM. Like smartphones, most OEMs give you between £0-£20 extra for a 1TB over a 256GB phone trade-ins despite costing over $200 when new.
@@andyH_Englandmaybe so, but they certainly still charge for them on the refurbished store. I remember when the 2019 Mac Pros were still for sale new you could find a high spec model for like $40K on the refurbished store, spec out the same model new and you saved roughly $1000 going refurbished. Same model on trade in? $1000. 😂
You mean they’re providing higher incentives for low demand items? Shocking!!
@@joelv4495then buy the cheaper one.
because thats how much it should actually cost.....
People buy stuff on eBay because they cannot get it in their country (non-USA) or it is much cheaper than the price after importing it.
Not always true though. Try importing even 1 or 2 units of MacBook to Indonesia. You'll be taxed to the brim.
Please make the video comparing it with a private sale!
I’m so glad they offer a stock config 16 GB model now. It’s still more expensive but at least we’ll get discounts from Best Buy on a 16GB air now
Looks to me that the form recognizes the computer if it is the 'base' model. the serial numbers are probably unique for base models and for the custom configured one it isn't so easy to identifiy them with the serial number... could be wrong though 😅
you can get a better trade in from best buy on that M1 Air
By $20. Just checked on my M1 2020 with 16gb and 1tb storage: $575 vs Apple site $550. Planning to buy the M3 15inch but reluctant to sell my M1 because it has been GOLD of a product.
I just checked the listings for the M1 air here in Belgium, they seem to ask €700 - 800 at least. Refurbished is closer to €1000. So a lot more than the trade in value
I've been doing this for many years. I always sell/trade in my previous Mac and have it subsidize a new one/refurbished one.
Hey Alex, from your experience how do you deal with macOS upgrade issues? whether they are causing issues with the tools you work with, or hardware which unfortunately I have both cases.
Usually local sales you get more but with the big hassle and risk.
apple is incredible value if you buy the basemodels, and very bad value if you buy the high spec models.
That's very true. They offer far greater value than Windows premium ultrabooks at their base, especially now that the Windows-base is £1600 (Galaxy Book4 Pro and XPS 14) for 512GB/16GB. So, if you do not need that much spec, Windows machines are very poor value, with the MB Air M3 at just £1100!
why not buy ebay refurb Wndows @@andyH_England
16" M1 Pro (10/16) 32RB RAM 512 SSD - 970€. Insulting if you ask me.
It’s still insulting if we didn’t ask too
@@letssaylalala 🤣😭
Do you recommend MacBook Air M3 - 16gb -512gb for software development programming?
I sold my iMac m1 that was maxed out minus the storage that was only 1TB and Apple wanted to give me like $400 I think. I sold it for ~$1800 and I got a refund on my remaining Apple care. It was a good resell
M1 air tho is better than the newer version in some regards mine is in perfect condition and i have another one basically new only used 10 times. Would it better to just mod the nan chips and get higher storage and ram???
I have Mac minis, which I know are less expensive, but they have higher-than-base RAM.
But Apple doesn't seem to take RAM into consideration on the price, only the storage.
And you paid at least an extra $200 for the RAM. Apple is ridiculous. 3:32
@@LouisDuran"And you paid at least an extra $200 for the RAM." - or maybe a price of an object is an agreement between the seller and the buyer, and crusades about the price of RAM are just people whining.
Great video. You’ve discovered something I had to learn the hard way. Only “future proof”, if reselling it is not in the future. I found out most buyers are not willing to pay for extra storage, RAM, or connectivity. I typically add $50 to the price for every $200 spent. Or it won’t sell. Base models hold their value and sell like hotcakes on the second hand market, oddly enough.
The same reasoning applies for iPhones.
@@gerald1964 all of them really including iPad and Watch.
Yes, price and value are far more deterministic of demand than added spec. The average user has been fine with a base spec for 40 years. What the YT techie community living in their bubble does not get is that the average person isn't spec-chasing; they simply want a low price.
Thanks for that. We sadly don't appear to have this options in New Zealand but it appears there are local companies who also support trade-ins like this and I can get for my base M1 ~400 USD (650NZD). Sounds pretty good at least for someone who uses these for their business and time is money... Sadly no amount of traded-in Mac's get me a Vision Pro here :(
Can someone help me out, I am confused whether I should buy a M2 Air with 16gb Ram or M3 Air with 8gb ram. Both of these machines cost almost same in my country.
I really need to upgrade from my dell laptop from 2018.
I was just watching one of your older videos where you were testing docker performance on M architecture. And it’s from multiple years ago now. Which is amazing to me, because I just ran into still persistent limitations.
We onboarded a new developer to our team, who was given an M3 Max, which is nothing new, we’ve had M series machines since 2022 when our supplier stopped offering anything intel. But we had him working on a .net application that hasn’t been touched in a while. And to my surprise, for the image version we require, which isn’t particularly old, there’s no arm support at all. Nothing. It had to fully go through the emulator.
The 2023 Mac built the container in about 15 minutes. It was built on my 2019 I9 in about 45 seconds. It’s unbelievable to me that this isn’t more widely discussed on YT. This experience is abysmal for full stack developers.
Hii Alex, You Support Us very Well❤, Thank You,, i have doubt, I Just yesterday purchased M2 macbook air base model , It has Slower SSD, I am in my 1st year CS Engeneering, I will have to use it for next 4 years Also, What Should I do Right now? Or Can I Buy Ssd and Enclosure And Use to run Coding and Programming application? What is Solution For this??
Try selling them in Brazil. You’ll get close to a thousand USD for the base models.
I was actually kinda surprised about that initial m2 air amount. $850 wasn't too terrible. New M2 in that configuration is $1800. On Apple's on refurbished store this configuration is going for $1530. So you're probably not getting more than $1400 if you list it on Ebay. Ebay then takes 15% plus collects taxes so you're seeing closer to 75% of that. So like ~$1050 minus shipping and insurance.
Yeah that was my experience when I bought a. M3 Pro recently. I think my 2018 MBP w/555 videocard was only being offered $350. I'd rather just hag onto it and still have that machine for dual boot purposes and keep my new system Windows free heh. Maybe down the line when I need to upgrade an iPad I will trade it in
I'm looking to buy m3 macbook air 16gb ram, 10 core gpu for software development activities. Is it good for me. Plz make a review video on m3 macbook air.
Hi I am Data Scientist can you please suggest me which laptop good form me m2 pro or m3 pro???????
As soon as you scratch/dent the chassis they are worth nothing to Apple. Don’t bother unless it’s in perfect condition
i had a 4 year old 2019 intel macbook pro. I traded in October 2023 with a scratch on the chassis about 3 inches, and wear around the ports. They gave me 525 dollars for it, with education discount, my m3 pro macbook pro costed me 1300 dollars. The initial intel macbook pro, as i recall it before taxes and after education discount, was around 1150. 50% trade in retention after four years is nuts. I don't have an m2 to m3 or m1 to m3 value at hand to see the price, but i always utilize the trade in. I also got $455. dollars on an a12z, pre m1 ipad pro 12.9 inch which i used to buy an ipad mini because i realized the ipad was meant to be a macbook companion, not a true replacement. which is damn good. and going back to the macbook pro intel model - I probably could have sold it to a friend for 600 dollars and push 700 to those who do not know much about laptops. But in general, your initial statement of scratches and dents is wrong. They are more reasonable than you think. If it is a scratch you can buff out, its okay. Dents are limited by the size and depth. Be reasonable. I know if i were to scratch an x on my spaceblack macbook pro just enough to scrape the paint off, i would get over a thousand dollars on resale for it. Hell, i even brought it in a month ago, four months after the purchase, and asked what is the resale value for an upgrade. Apple said within 60 days i can get a full refund. And the managers were so kind to say if i needed an upgrade past that because of my storage needs/ram/processor, they would apply full credit for the same year model. Just go to the managers in person and tell them you need it for your work flow. Just bring it the machine on the day you want to purchase and they can buy your configuration in person. Again- apple is more lenient than you think with the damage. Just be reasonable about if your scratch and dents look repairable. Even now, people would wait for a new apple product to release so the previous model or model from 2 years ago become affordable and they know their products last. And even more, if you utilize apple care+, things just keep you in the ecosystem. Which is a nice thing because you get rewarded for taking care of your stuff with big discounts. You genuinely have to beat up your aluminum/titanium hardware to show something.
yeah, I put my 2014 macbook pro i7 details and they said they will just recycle it for free.
a bit sad, but understandable.
Weird. I was recently offered 450 for a 2015 MBP 15. Maybe u should check back at different times of the year
@@latinreuben just rechecked, they're offering $0 😞
maybe value differs from one region to another.
But it's okay, it works still, so I will just clean it & sell it myself
MacBook Air is popular, so it's easy to sell it for adequate money. Try to sell something like 1 year old MacBook Pro M2 Max with 64 GB of RAM or similar, you'll either wait for a buyer for monts, or will have to sell it with 50% discount from RRP.
Bro forgot to blur Apple Bethesda Row 💀💀💀
as a frontend developer, i am wondering macbook air m3 should choose ram 16g or 24g?
need more advice please🙏🏻

I beg you to do a test of fl studio on m3 MacBook air 16 gb .... And show us ,does it get heated ....
U can export playlist stems with mixer effects and master effects enabled ( of a heavy demo track ) ...to check that ...
Please it's a request ...
How to install x86 ova on m1/2/3 cpu?! 🤦🏻♂️
Please do a video about selling your Mac. That would be very interesting.
Another thing that would be interesting would be to understand if you get the same trade in value if you bought it from Apple or another seller. If your Macs were not all bought from Apple, of course.
It’s no difference where you bought all they care is that it is an Apple product
You have a good energy when you speak.
Mmmmh 🤔
I've seen elsewhere sometime ago that Samsung offers better trade in prices for iPhones than Apple does. You could check if they also take in Macs.
Also, as a minor suggestion, a giveaway would be interesting, any university student would be glad to have an M1 MacBook Air.
I have M1 MacBook Pro 13", ace of base, used as Mac Mini pretty much in a stand, and in the UK they offer me £460 for it in trade in for Mac Mini M2, but I am waiting for Mac Mini M3 and tbh I am sniffing a very good deal on it when it comes out :) Thanks for confirming that
The audio quality on the mini is poor compared to the MacBooks - even with the lid closed in a stand. I picked up an M2 mini on the education store for £539, which is probably the best Mac deal I've ever had.
That's only what they propose it's worth, but when you send it in, they value it even less
Apple is scamming ppl with their iPhone trade in but for some reason is very generous with their Mac trade in which i honestly care more about. They give me $600+ for my M2 base model air when I upgraded to M3 pro
That is a good price and saves the hassle of selling on eBay or such (risk and added costs of 15%; eBay and PayPal).
I bought my M1MBA 512GB for $650 back in Jan of 2021, and I can still sell it for the same price
I was just looking at an M1 air 16gb this morning, what’s your asking price, Alex? Wink wink
Los vendedores pones productos a sobreprecio para q parezca q son mas baratas otras publicaciones
Apples trade in policy is pretty good from what I have experienced.
Alex are you selling that MacBook Air m1?? I would buy if it’s around $450.
That’s not crazy, all of the can be sold for much more
great point! thanks, I can use this to further my argument for why I need a new macbook. 😂
That's one reason I'm going to use to explain to my wife why my Air is gone and I'm now rocking a M3 MBP with 18GB
3:32 Pretty much sums up any Apple buying experience when other options exist in the world
I'm looking to trade in my base MacBook Pro M1, and it gives me $519. It's actually pretty good, and a bit easier to sell it online(low-ballers and the wait)
upgrade is for people with spending issue disorder
once my sis' MacBook Air or mine runs out of warranty we'll trade them in
They sure maintain their value, no doubt about it
Why get rid of equipment....? Have had most of my computers for over 3 years and ALL are going strong and there is no need to upgrade.
To pay for the upgrade?
Just do some giveaways man!
If you really want your mind blown, Best Buy is giving me $450 for a 2017 15 inch i7.
Swapping it for an open box M3 Max, so with a discount I’m paying well into M3 Pro chip territory. It depends on their fickle open box shipping policies, but I’ve used that for my iPad, my Apple Pencil, a 4K TV… highly recommend
Apple offered me $450 for my mint condition 2015 MBP 15. Maybe i shoulda taken it.
I think i'll get a thinkpad t490
Out of topic, but recently a colleague bought a refurbished T-470S for 400 euros (24 GO RAM /512 GO SSD) : it's still a monster and the build quality is insane for those series. I told him he will keep it for ten years (office work, web browsing etc...). And of course so easy to service.
@@david-6110my Macbook Air is at 24Gb and 8Tb its nice but its Apple so logically really expensive. I sold my macbook M1 for 600CAD$.
I paid for my M2 Max 38 GPU cores 1000 less than Apple price, just 3 months after their release on the market. The guy did not like the Macs. Not stolen as I got the warranty and invoice documents with them.
EDIT: So, I just went and tried to see how much I would get. First of all, they read the serial number and did not ask me about the model. But they show the wrong GPU core number 30, when I go to my system report it shows 38. Go figure. And they are offering 1020 for it. No thank you
Still no mb air m3 review. Why are you doing this.
coming soon. i skipped the unboxing to get right into reviewing it
Can‘t get back a lot of money on Apple trade-in, as I don‘t care about dings and scratches, discolorations on all devices I have. And, I never use any protective covers and shells on them. After a few month, my devices are starting to look quite worn off, which is the way I recognize them amongst those of my work colleagues… It‘s quite funny to watch their reaction when they see my Apple devices with scratches and badly dinged edges…
Why? Laptops, tablets and phones are just tools for me - not deco, even less art. I am driving my stuff very hard, and yes, no matter where, if not for rain, snow, hail… I completely ignore designer offices and home, I work those devices even on a rough, gusty helicopter seat, and might drop them to the floor, putting a foot on it, when the heli takes a brisk dive, so it doesn‘ slip from me in that zero g moment and hit someone… So, final point is: My devices look all very, very used after a few month, as I am not living in a starbucks most of my daytime sipping on a soy latte… peace! ✌🏻
one things is using your machines to the max, like you do. another thing is not caring for your machines. they don’t have to go hand in hand. slap a nice heavy duty case on it, and suddenly you no longer have all the dings.
Sell it to me!
you paid 2500$ for a macbook air? ;-;
So - Macs are NOT selling and Apple is desperate?
"Macs are NOT selling and Apple is desperate?" - that's some serious projection.
i got a mid 2010 macbook?!?! LMAO
Trade In is suck
There's no point in even replacing an m1 air for most tasks. You can still get 500-600 for one these days private sale.
