Not only have I never seen this army before, but I've never seen this version of fantasy concept before - elven sunspirits possessing treeforms - incredible and thank you for highlighting something different!
seeing people tackle theyre piles makes me happy and motivates me to wade through my own (admittedly much smaller, yet still seemingly impossible) little marsh of regular minis and tricky old forgotten projects
This is without a doubt the best MiniPainting channel on youtube and I actuallt do mean it. Not only clips like this are full of actually usefull info, but the host has natural charisma, unique style of humor and editing and Tempo of the videos are on point. But mostly your approach to the hobby is something that actually mad me go back to painting. You struck the perfect balance between focusing and improving your painting while also finding a way to not beat yourself over mistakes, shortcommings that had stopped me many times to paint the models I thought i was "not ready" to paint yet. thank you Jay.
Paint scheme looks great! For Streaking Grime, I recommend makeup sponges. For a couple of dollars you can get a big bag, then cut them down to workable sizes with scissors. I'm using them for my space marines. I think it's also a good idea to not leave the streaking grime on too long. More work to pull off the grime.
Slyvaneth army is very tricky because it has tons of small little twigs and branches that make getting in with a brush harder. Airbrush is definitely the way to go with trees.
As much as I'd like to have seen the DG get painted instead, that color scheme you went with before is way too unique and awesome to rush over one weekend!
I'm really proud of you. I'm buying some of the Imperium magazines, collecting a Necron army that I want to start and be done in a week. I'm just waiting for the right time.
Tip for streaking grime! Cheap small make up sponges dipped in a bit of spirits are absolutely the play! Miles better then cue tips and they don't fall apart.
I recommend some form of varnish before applying Oils. You will still tint the Miniature, but its easier to remove and it doesn't darken that much + you get more time to remove the oil.
I can see how you may not like the grime color on the smaller minis but I loved literally everything in this video. I have some dryads I haven't painted yet and I think I'm going to try to emulate some of what I saw here. This was really well executed, you should be proud!
Great goal for a project! I just have been working on my sylvaneth army too. Very different colour approach. A cool tip for basing them, if you want to give a leafy foliage look to the bases you can use tea from some teabags
I had actually just bought that same case last week. To anyone also thinking about getting it, I’m really loving it so far. I did have to clear up some mold lines on where the door connects though
Look for cotton swabs made for gun cleaning, they're a little more tightly wound by design to keep from shedding so much. Might help with the enamel wash removal.
I have unpainted box sets going all the way back to Assault on Black Reach. I have battleforces for 7 armies. My unpainted/unsprued debt is massive. Luckily I saw the amazing Slapchop involving Prime Black, Drybrush grey, dry brush edges white then apply contrast. Pulled out my Tupperware and am getting things ready. Also rather than buying a Jucoci case you can make one using wood and steel cookie sheets. Using a sheet of Plexi glass as a lid.
As someone who spends YEARS painting armies (hell, I don't think I've ever had a fully painted army) I'm actually quite jealous of his ability to knock out an army in a weekend. And they even look very cool!
@@denniswijker7162 i spend longer on individual models and i'm lucky if they come out half as cool as his worst stuff. not something you would probably appreciate until you've tried painting something to a really high level like that yourself. AND he makes it look easy too. It's lucky he seems like a really genuine/cool guy or else i'd probably resent him for how talented he is lol. also, don't worry. i took a long hiatus from the hobby but i've got several years under my belt as well as well and i too have never fully painted any of my armies. Currently I am kinda close with my slaves to darkness army though!
@@ElPoopacabra1 My problem seems to stem from the fact that I have 1 level of painting (which, if I'm honest to myself, is pretty decent. It's not Golden Daemon level or anything, but it's above "battle ready" so to speak. I've been painting minis for a good 20+ years now. And I cant seem to turn that off for units, so they take AGES. It's fine for single models, I spend a week or 2, 3, on a single model, and I'm happy with it. But that's a problem if you need like... 60 infantry. I would never resent someone for their skill, but being a bit jealous at how quickly he's painting to a cool level, absolutely.
I would have thought it was obvious where they get the gold weapons - they absorb water, containing minute particles of gold, via their 'roots' and then grow the weapons like a flower.
You need to put a lacquer clear coat on to lock in all the base coating you did before putting the streak and grime enamel on. Capillary action will then take the enamel to the recesses of the model and the lacquer clear coat allow the mineral spirits to cleanly wipe away the enamel.
I love these challanges, one of my favorite videos to watch from you. They are inspiring in many ways, but mostly see that it can look stunning in just two days.
Try cleaning your enamel washes with those timy makeup sponges on sticks. Also, you really only need to let it sit for a few minutes, otherwise itll make everything really really dark. Id try in batches next time.
legit just got that case you are sponsored by. the thing is INCREDIBLE! i can store like 5000 points of aos inside and travel with them! greatest case i have ever bought. worth the cost.
I'd suggest using pieces of torn makeup sponges or gentle dabbing with wool dobbers for large armies that have been streaking grimed in a batch. No stringy qtip remains at all.
I just play Warhammer game's occasionally on PC, but I used to build airplane models when I was a kid. Your skill and attention to detail is just mesmerizing.
I wish I could get a beautiful army out of 2 days... I doubt I could get half of that. I love your color schemes it just blows me away with the combos you come up with. Great job!
Thinning the enamel out a bit more probably would probably get you the tone you would have liked on the infantry. Also maybe use a satin varnish would male it easier to remove more of the grime
I found disposable eyeshadow applicators held up a lot better for removing the enamel washes. I also tend to use them for things with flat surfaces like you mentioned.
I am not sure what impresses me more: * That you can paint for 24 hours in two days and not be racked by back pain. Or; * That you still have time to play video games. Every video you post just astonished me.
That case is so good for it’s price, the only thing that I saw as an issue with it is that it has some mould lines that keep it from being flush. 2 minutes with a hobby knife fixed that quick though!
I don’t have a tone of money for buying miniatures and yet I still have a pile of shame! I only bought 5 minis or so last year and I painted way more then that, progress!
hey homies I can recommend using disposable makeup blenders instead of qtips for wiping off washes. They're marginally more expensive, but do not leave cotton strands behind
The 2 things I learned after trying the streaking grime wash for the first time is 1) makeup sponges, not q-tips. 2) it looks WAY better the next day after drying.
Today at my local store i saw a court of the crimson king. It was realy cool. Buuuut i have a kill team into the dark to finish, one rubric kill team, one star corsairs, one cadia stands box, my tyranid combat patrol, an extra hive tyrant, a carnofex, some demonets, a centinal, etc. And i havent even started about my war ship models.
Oh my God, using water to get acrylics to run through crevices? That's brilliant! Oh, yeah, nice tree butts and such as well. Impressive how much you did in two days. Spending this year to paint through my backlog as well . . . because I already have a bunch of kickstarters coming. ^_^;
I call mine my rainy day collection! but it doesn’t get smaller lol. I’m obsessed with buying the expensive single HQ units at the moment! I enjoy painting one offs more than an army!
Love your videos! You mentioned in a video awhile back about the time save of batch painting vs painting individual models. That would be an interesting video to watch comparing the two and seeing what is actually faster.
Shameflex: if I painted one model every day, it’d take me over 12 years and 9 months to finish my pile of shame. I used to work at a game store in my 20’s. Don’t be worried about your pile bro. Keep up the great vids.
Holy cow. The Sylvaneth army was super pretty just after the airbrushing stage just before the enamels (I’m scared of enamels now!) Heck that’s good enough for most people. Nice video Jay!
If you are scared start with one mini and just short dry time and get some feeling. Tbh acrylics are equally scary, because the dry so fast and you can’t remove them. If you want a grim look, enamels are too good to skip.
As a classic age of sigmar player I have to say this The sylvaneth come from gryha, the realm of life. SHYISH (not iesh) is the realm of death. I know as I have an army for all 4 death factions
Respect, he spent some of his 48 hours to tell us about a nice mini case
I bought one a few weeks back and love it, will say though that it does have mould line issues so it needs to be trimmed up to get flush fits!
@@Justiceinthefog I am most likely gonna buy one
I've been using cardboard bankers boxes stuffed with eggcrate foam from a cut-up mattress pad. They're

I no longer call it a pile of shame. I refer to it as my pile of potential.
I always just called my “to be built” pile what it is: my backlog. As long as I work at it, they will get done, eventually.
Now I have a pile of potential shame
Shameeee on the pile
Its not a pile of shame.
Its simply me increasing the amount of bits I have to kitbash with
Since I mainly store all my stuff in a big box I call it my "Box of Opportunities" (BOO)

for enamel and oil washes i recommend clear gloss coat to avoid cotton shedding and also makes it much easier to work with plus less staining
I recomend varnishing before using enammel or oil washes, this prevents the oils from staining the basecoats underneath as heavily as it did for you.
