Took my xmaxx out for the first time yesterday and I absolutly love it !!! Thanks for the spark in getting me one of these bad boys. So much better than the 2wd I used to mess with years back.
Tip: heat up the disassembled driveshafts in the oven to 400 degrees, and freeze the pin rod with keyboard cleaner can held upside down. It will slide right in and clamp down to an interference fit as the temperatures equalize then you can trim the pin and assemble the axle. Works great for pressed in bearing races too.
Awesome tutorial Kevin, I love your channel! Something that you may consider when installing those spring steel pins into the dog bone is to refrigerate the pin and use a heat gun on the dog bone. This will expand the metal on the dog bone and contract the metal on the pin. Afterwards, use a bench vice to press the pieces together. I feel that it would be worth a go. Cheers mate and keep up the great work!
Aside from cutting the brace between ESC & Motor, I didn't realize the Max 6 was a direct fit for the X Maxx. Nice. I'm sure the ESC probably needed calibration. Worth it
man... look at the baby face... hahaha I just realized this was in 2016!!! Cheers man look at you now.with the LAMBOOOO!! .. Good Vibes Dude Good Vibes!!!! Love your Vids man... I am just starting to get into RCs .. Love the Hobby and the quality time it gives me with my boys and wife....
Looks incredible ! If you know the torque setting you could get a torque screw driver to set the screws to the appropriate setting without fear of stripping them.
Well the ESC was the 6s. He puts 8s systems into it. I just got my first Xmaxx yesterday and I ran it on 8s and it suits the truck. Theres a reason they converted them to 8s
@@docedits7294 Hey have you upgraded many other parts to run it on 8S? I have an old 6S Xmaxx I'd like to run on 8 in the future.. Centre diff conversion required?
Hey brother love the video. I was just wondering if you could do a video on the complete setup of the ESC and the binding of the radio? It looks like you just used the stock radio. I want to do this setup to my X Maxx. So any help with another video would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work.
You need to get a electric driver with a clutch. I love my milwaukee M12. I just set the clutch at the lowest setting that will drive the screw in, then zip the screws in and then hand tighten.
Hello, I took a anchio EZRUN max6 for Xmaxx, I wanted to ask just plugged max6 be set, or just turn on and the factory parameters are fine? then I noticed that you used the 18/54 instead of 18/50 ratios think will be better?
I just use factory settings. Just make sure you set your endpoints with the set button (see instructions) 18/50 gave good performance all round but is still a little aggressive I think so hopefully the 18/54 will tame it slightly. If it's too slow I will try 19/50 which is what I wanted to run but didn't have any steel 50t spurs. Cheers
Thanks a lot for your response . I just spoke with traxxas and with this being my first ever RC they said send it in to the for repair seeing how it's only 2 weeks old
man you just saved me from spending a 1000.00 i am so glad i found your video i will do your modes to mine and not worry that it will burn up thanks so much man.it just makes sense the truck is very strong and fast your truck looks great
Quick question I own a 15 day old xmaxx 8s and something is wrong with transmission or something. When I turn it on and pull the trigger on the controller the engine winds out but the wheels don't move at all. Sometimes if I tip it straight up and down the wheels will turn when I pull the trigger. It's not a temperature thing and I've never taken anything apart
loose pinion maybe? whip off the black cover with the 'hot' sticker and have a look in there first. DOn't rev it up if sometings broke you can make it worse.
Hello, a question, the cable that goes from the engine to the receiver what to do remove it entirely or just the one that goes from the ESC to the receiver?
question my truck was making some funny gear noises after some repairs I did. I took of the cover for the pinion and spur only to find out the spur has alot of play and teeth are missing or filed down. Any suggestions on making the spur more secure? Thankyou in advance
Paul C the stock 6s escs on the 6s xmaxx used to catch fire but the new 6s VXL escs by traxxas now but 8s escs with newer xmaxxes catch fire to people say but mine has not I hope it doesn’t
Just sand the 3.15 mm steel down to 3. Put it on electric drill and use some sandpaper to get it just right for a snug fit. No need to grind the axle hole bigger. Or you can use 3mm drill bits and cut a piece from those for a pin. Those are real hard steel and 3mm exactly.
Would take me maybe a minute to grind that little bit off with and mini belt sander. We print 3D Metal parts and I’ve made lots of small pins like this and ground them down. Guess I’m just used to working with metals more.
How about building one from scratch.fabricate the chasis and suspension and all.and as a side experiment,if you run two motors to drive the same axil, each with its own battery, could this split the load between the two motors allowing to be geared up to run faster?
What esc is better Castle Mamba X or hobbywing xr10 ,i just bouth a castle 2850kv "slate" for my rustler but i wamt a better esc than sidewinder 3 what you suggest
Castle is probably the best you can buy but the hobbywing is cheaper and are Reilly good for the money I can't afford a castle so I run hobbywing been running them for years with no problem!
Hey Kevin love the channel...when you where painting the body and then the black accents I thought you where out to lunch but it looks awesome ...my next body same way bloody wicked
if you get an old cd or DVD drive from a computer and break it open. They have two 3mm hardened steel rod runners in them they you can use for the drive shafts.
yo nice video buddy extremely helpful as I really want an x max but a couple of durability issues put me off! I'm pretty sure I've been purchasing parts for my slash from you, is there any chance you would sell an x max with said upgrades done in the video and if so how much!? cheers fella
Cheers mate :) I can sell you all the parts that you need but it would work out quite expensive labour wise to do all the work. you would be better off doing it yourself. Cheers
Kevin Talbot okay mate nice one, I should be fine doing it just not confident in drilling/grinding though the dog bones lol............. don't suppose you have any slash half shaft/CV joint advice or suggestions? I'm running a castle sidewinder 8th combo on 4 and 6cell but eating though drive shafts like nobody's business! I've tried fast track and integy so far not much success lmao :) cheers buddy
Kevin Talbot haha yea I ended up shelling out for genuine traxxas cvd's! well worth it though ive put many packs through them now 4s and 6s............top money but top quality happy bashing days
It’s crazy to watch this video 7 years after it was made. Your video style has changed so much!
I love how clean everything looks in his old vids compared to his new ones
Interesting how he has become a more over the top youtube character since these chill videos.
You do what makes you money.
You have to follow the views 😁 more entertainment and more informative videos for us 😀
Took my xmaxx out for the first time yesterday and I absolutly love it !!! Thanks for the spark in getting me one of these bad boys. So much better than the 2wd I used to mess with years back.
Hadn't seen this old video 😊! You've come a long way my friend!

6yr old video. As old as my son, but I still love to watch it 😂👍

I have to say that this is a FANTASTIC video! Well done!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Cheers, Kev
Do you need to file a flight plan every time you play with that truck ? 😅
Love the video, that's some hard core bashing with an expensive truck at the beginning, amazing to watch.
I am planning on an XMAXX as a retirement gift to myself - I have a Stampede 4X4 VXL and I can't get enough !!!! Great video !!! Jolly Good Mate !!!!
Bruce Moore u should get a nice 1/10 scale buggy really fun little car 👌🏻
birth of the legendary xmaxx
Looks incredible ! If you know the torque setting you could get a torque screw driver to set the screws to the appropriate setting without fear of stripping them.
I love how he just has spare 1000$ cars lying around
sports _17 you have to look at with content $$ in mind.
He drives a Lamborghini, didn’t hide it well enough in the live stream so an xmaxx is cheap comparatively
He owns a hobby shop
Used to own a hobby shop that’s why he had so many
I know right
Opens the xmaxx doesn’t even think about giving the traxxas esc a chance😂😂😂

Probably cuz he already gave the esc a chance.

Was it worth buying a xmaxx ?
16:27 I'm waiting for Sting to come in.
What drill type do u use? I know it’s a dewalt but it looks perfect size for taking the screws out. And what drill bit case do u use?
Interesting! Did you have a job a long time ago, or where was this film shot??? 😮😮
Bloody hell kev, how your videos have come along from back in the day, was nice meeting you on the weekend, no doubt see you again
Did they fix all of these issues with the new 8s version of the truck or do the deaths and pins and everything still break and strip?
No one:
Keven: BRAND NEW X MAXX LETS KEEP IT PRETTY... NOW TO INSTALL A 20S LIPO THING AND SQUEEZE 30 lipos!!!

only remove the old esc wires and plug your new esc into port 2 on your receiver.
Then the motor cable coming off permanently from the esc?
Wow 5 years ago had to be just when i started watching . waw is that the first xmaxx ?
Kevin is this still the gearing combo you recommend?ty
0:32 I love tree's
I have the telemetry expander with GPS and the xmaxx light kit, would this stuff work any more if you do the esc swap?
wondering, why did this xmaxx have a red shell but blue shocks? I always thought they matched each other? xD
I also love that he has a spare 1000$ lying around!!! Good job bro!!!!
He rebuilt it to be a 6s model in 2017
Enjoyed the video !

Cracking vid, nice job. You work well as a presenter!
What threadlock was that?
Thanks :) the threadlock is made by BSI i think.
Cheeers
Hi Kevin,
Why you replaced the VXL-8S with Max6, is the performance will difference and why?
Because they can over heat and start on fire 🔥

you could sand it down but it would take ages. The drill bit may work I've not tried it but I think they would break?

Brother what price of that truck..

Would a Maxx 5 be better to purchase if eventually changing up the motor?
Very nice idea to make the drive shaft stronger but it’s kinda weakening them for force of the pulls of the power
Do they still have the drive shaft problem?
Hey Kevin love the channel...when you where painting the body and then the black accents I thought you where out to lunch but it looks awesome ...my next body same way bloody wicked
What brand of electric screw driver is that and what head do u use? Thanks.
Kevin, on that ESC how did you program it or did you just use the factory default settings?
Factory settings, just use the push button to set the endpoints.
hi man ! i'm happy to see that i'm not alon in europe to like and use to death an x-max !
Marc from france ! rcgarage68
many's rcgarage 68 well the car still works so it’s not dead yet aye😂
I run the same setup. Good temps and great bashing! Thanks buddy!
Mine didn't come with the cover that goes over the spur and pinion. Where did you get that?
have a look in your book for the part no. I dont have it to hand. Cheers
I’m so glad I found this video , it’s the exact same thing I want to do to mine , he’s the reason I got an Xmaxx paid $500.00 used
Why did u change the esc straight out the box ?
JOHN VALDEZ i hear the stocks one burn

i think you should buy some dremel or small rotary tool for building your toys,,
thanks
if you get an old cd or DVD drive from a computer and break it open. They have two 3mm hardened steel rod runners in them they you can use for the drive shafts.
