Space Harrier Longplay (Arcade) [60 FPS]: Tackle the perils of the Fantasy Zone in this high-speed shooter from Sega! Read the video description for my review!
@@SavicksterTheTrixter oh yeah.. it was groundbreaking for it's time, for it's graphics, fast action, music and the visual style. Like the dark chaotic side of Alice in wonderland, but cheerfully upbeat with it's colors and unforgettable main theme. I remembering gawking at the action on the screen as a kid, wondering ok WTF is This?
I always loved the artistic direction behind this protagonist: "So there's this guy - he flies around everywhere by sticking a rocket under his arm and riding it like he's seated at one of those student desks with the stupid flip-up armrests. Oh, and the rocket shoots massive fuck-off lasers out the front. And he looks like he escaped from Space Adventure Cobra." "GENIUS."
Great game, I used to play it in the arcade back in the day! Interesting fact about the arcade game itself: The only Space Harrier model SEGA built was a full-motion cabinet. You sit in it and hydraulics move you around as you play. Other Sega full-motion games existed as well: Outrun (in 3 different cabinet styles) and Afterburner (2 cabinet styles). Since Space Harrier was so massive and the hydraulics weren't really built to last, surviving games are extremely rare.
@@jasoncrandall5320 My dad goes to say how some old polygon-y game from the 90s still looks nice even today, but goes to say some indie game with the same graphics looks bad because of the graphics.
Welcome to the fantasy zone get ready!! I always thought it was way ahead of its time in the mid 80’s. Good game but it was a difficult game and swallowed you money. So often chose to play something easier so I had a lot more play time my £2 pocket money didn’t go far back then.
Love your mini review by the way! I love this game like a little robotic puppy and remember waaaay back playing the full motion version in an arcade on Ryde seafront circa 1986 - I got real good at it and could finish it on 20p - it was 20p/3 lives or 50p for 8 lives - and I always had crowds of hot Scandinavian language students watching, perfect for the 15 year old me. The Harrier for adrenaline and the Swedish girls for the testosterone. - Glorious times, loved it.
Wow I use to avoid it as I was crap at it and would swallow all my pocket money. I thought it was quite a difficult game but ahead of its time. I stuck with double dragon or bubble bobble…lol
must be a good 35ish years plus from them old days in the arcade and making 3.25 hr... I remember spending 30$ on mostly this game (sit down version moved around).. imo this was the most immersive game of its time when you moved the stick the world moved and was soo smooth - though I still say its a rocket under his arm
I ate a mushroom from stage 10 after taking my harrier out there and got so messed up i couldn’t find my way home.. btw.. The Turbo Grafix 16/PC Engine had a great port of this.. superior to the sega console version
Stage 4 Cecil::: it starts out with the song "I Got A New Attitude"...when did that song come out??? Space Harrier stole the song and used it in the game!

This was actually an arcade machine?

1985
jeez
I guess children back then looked at this game just like I looked at Crysis in 2007. With jaw dropped.
Exactly!
Especially because Crysis was poorly optimised 😏
@@dagainz6997 crysis just predicted wrong how CPUs would advance in the near future.
thats how i like to travel to work.
are you from the future? :o

But I just lost my last life….

Arcade - "You're doing great!!!"
Me - "Riiiiight...like I just died over 3 or 4 dozen times."
Welcome to the fantasy zone! Get ready!
_(starts speeding across the grassy plains of Planet Moot while shooting floating rocks and enemy fighters)_
It's funny, when I was a kid I thought he was saying "Welcome to the family" I didnt hear it properly until watching replays on RUclips.
Fantasy Zone, is this you?
Thanks for sharing! Love the 60fps capture. Look at the speed of the boss at 2:39!!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Oh the memories I used to play this a lot in the arcades in Australia one of my favourite Sega arcade games that made me into a Sega fan boy
Even kids today who grew up w/ super powerful polygon graphics would prob. admit this game looks cool

I played this on the moving seat version It was crazy cool. My fave character in a game
Possibly my favorite game of all time the innovation and fast action not to mention it still
looks good after so many years
Loved watching all the older kids play this at the Tilt great memories
This will be forever known to me as "That one obnoxiously loud game that drowns out absolutely every single other game in the arcade".
Those stone faces are out of the movie Labyrinth...Labyrinth fans will get that reference!!! The White Dragon is Never Ending Story!
I use to play this game when I was kid. My mom would play the game too
Segas hardware was so awesome, the scrolling is soo smooth!
天井が現れて。
柱とサイコロ?が迫ってくるステージ、どうやってこんなの避けてるんですかって感じです。
STAGE 4 Soundtrack FIREEEEEEEE
This one has better graphics than any other version but I must admit that my favorite one is the sega master system version
My friend had that one, too. We were big fans of the coin op version, and were psyched to be able to play at home all day!
It's amazing how faithful the SMS version is, so much so that you can play one and apply what you've learned to the other.
Amazing

Such an amazing 36 year old SEGA game... especially when compared to My Hero.
This game is basically what happens when you live out your (fever) dream.

Mr Bean Mind The Baby 3:37
How is he flying non-stop?
8:32...are those Dodecahedrons??? Or Icosahedrons or Polyhedrons???
You should have let the "enter initials" music play out.. That was the best part of the game IMO!
I got that on the 3DS.
Same here, along with Switch and as a Yakuza mini game on PC.
I loved Space Harrier to death. I beat the game when I got it in 1996 for Genesis.
You're talking about Space Harrier 2.
Space Harrier 2 for the Genesis was easy peasy compared to Space Harrier for the SMS.
Omg, I loved the game so much. The ending though is a bit rushed though : congratulations, you win. The end. Bye! 😅
I remember how casual players steered away from this game like the plague, cause it was so hard and a quarter guzzler 😂
4:42 Neverending Story Reference!
After i post this game
1.space harrier
2.raiden
3.raiden 2
4.out run
I feel like go back 1985 to 1995 that year,
That make me like teenage😂😂😂
Was the first game I played in the UK that was 50p a go
Just 1cc'd this game on the saturn. Crazy hard!
The 32X version looks just like the Saturn I guess that justifies the 32X existing
I ate a mushroom from stage 10 after taking my harrier out there and got so messed up i couldn’t find my way home.. btw.. The Turbo Grafix 16/PC Engine had a great port of this.. superior to the sega console version
Tjaja, fast wie im StarFox.

👏👏👏👏😊👍
