    Thank you so much, this is the type of thing I've been wanting to do for ages. I had really long winded formulae in those types of cells and they were just asking for trouble (i.e typos!!)

      +Louise Green Thank you Louise, glad that it helped, and try to avoid those long-winded formulae! Separating the calculations into different cells and using references is almost always better. Good luck!

    How would you set up in the tables a range tab at will score between a 90-100 is an A, 80-89=B, 72-79=C. And so on. This can be next to the same table and still give the same information except entering it with a number grade instead. Thanks for your assistance.

      An the number be a range like between 90-100=A instead of 4=A ?

      It would be possible using VLOOKUP and approximate match - the below video is a different context but the application of VLOOKUP with approximate match is the same:

    Hi! Great in-depth tutorial. I know that Excel has probably changed a lot in 6 years, but I need some help with finding the difference between target and actual grades using the vlookup formulas. I followed your instructions step by step but Excel still keeps returning the #N/A error. I tried rebuilding the formula in the example worksheet and it works just fine. It only doesn't work when I try to enter it in the practice worksheet, using the table I created. I can't figure this out, any help?

      Hi Michele
      The basics have not changed a huge amount to be honest.
      Here's another video on the topic that might help you:

    Hi,
    Great clip, loads to take from it.
    Quick question.
    Is it possible to use VLOOKUP to build a comment profile?
    Thanks in advance.

      +Tom Eisenhuth Hi Tom, thank you - building a comment profile is certainly possible. VLOOKUP usually returns a single piece of information, however, so would probably only return one comment. To create a profile, you would have to use filters or some simple code to draw comments out of a database. Get in touch via the website if you want to talk further.

    Why is the difference in value between "Target B" and "Actual B" 3?

    • @TigerSpreadsheetSolutions
      @TigerSpreadsheetSolutions  6 лет назад

      Hi there - the target grade is a target grade for the student, and the actual grade is what the student actually achieves. The tool measures the difference between the two. Good luck!

    • @JudgeDreddMegaCityOne
      @JudgeDreddMegaCityOne 6 лет назад

      Yes, obviously. But there is no value difference between "B" and "B", so why would your table be showing the difference as "3"?

      I've just watched the video again and it all becomes clear if you watch the video to the end - good luck!

    I'm using Google Forms to give a vocabulary quiz.
    One question is
    "4. Someone who does a work-study training, in English we call that person an ________________. "
    I'm parsing (case insensitive) for the word "intern", but I'll also accept "trainee".
    After the students complete, I export the answers into an excel spreadsheet. Then I parse cells with answers.
    Cell O2 function which analyses cell N2:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    =if(
    OR(
    ISNUMBER(SEARCH("intern",N2)),ISNUMBER(SEARCH("trainee",N2))
    )
    , "1", "0")
    1 = Correct; 0 = Wrong
