Can't wait to see yall tonight in Houston! In '81 I was 7 years old. Loved the song back then but as I'm older it hits differently. Just finished a divorce. I don't think if me or my ex wife singing this to the other but kinda both of us singing this to each other. Like when you stop talking and things get misinterpreted all you have are those promises you made and that's all. It still hurts and breaks my heart but life has to go on. Anyway I love yall and this song!!!! Thank you for this gift!!!

Im blown away at how you guys continue to be bad ass... Pat I know everyone had a part in your success but dammit man, you were the envy of every girl in the 80's and the heart throb of the boys... but more than that , you brought a female voice to rock in a time when that wasn't prevalent and was good, real damn good .. I remember all of it.. and I still jam to your music today... I am late to the whole "Promises in the Dark" song stories thing and thats ok... I played it in my first band and I was always received well as part of our set. Our singer was no Pat Benatar...but she gave it her all...

Hi Pat and Neil TY for sharing your vid...man it's been so long since I've seen you guys...thinking Hampton Beach, N.H.? I'm in SoCal now. Anyway! This song combined with Hell is for Children...means a lot to me...for me, one rolled into the other. I was an abused child beaten to a bloody pulp by a step father while my own mother watched and turned a blind eye to it all. So many of us were of our generation, and we were much more silent than the generations coming up now. I didn't know back then, that there would ever be any other life for me, and when I married, I was very young and just basically married the first person who showed me any attention and what I thought was love at the time. He turned out to be more of the same..beating me and then falling into the vicious cycle of begging and crying and Promising in the Dark...that he would never do it again. He tore clothes off me, threatened me constantly, hurled me into walls and I crumpled down to the floor so many times, accused me of everything under the sun, even when I would just go to the store with a family member etc...it took every bit of strength and determination to get out and with 40 dollars in my pocket and 7 months pregnant, I got out on my own. I was petrified of where I would end up and how it would all pan out. Here I am now, age 60 and have learned so very much of life. My best promises are to myself and to never let myself be mistreated by another human being again as long as I live. Strength. Your music hits home to me in so many ways...so thank you and I hope to get to see you both again in the near future. xox
    WINNER #2
In my life I have heart ache after heart ache from divorce to the lose of my 15 year old son to a auto accident, that changed me. Before I would open up the doors and turn up Pat Benatar and jam and clean and dance. When my son died I couldn't listen to any music for years . My remaining kids and friends would and still do put on some Pat Benater like you use to mom. So I do. Your music helps me remember the good days of my life, when I was strong and not broken. Much love to you.
    WINNER #3
I was in my early teens and I live on a small Reservation called Takla Landing and the nearest town to us is 240 klm away[3hours drive] called Fort St James, It was after our Student challenge summer job that my cousin and I went to town after we got paid, totally NOT expecting a NEW album by Pat Benatar, when I rushed through the record bin randomly and saw the big White bold Letters, "PAT BENATAR!, -Precious Time" and I was so caught totally off guard and blurted out loud, "Oh My GOD Pat Benatar's got new album out!" and started running jumping up and down with it excitedly not caring if anyone saw me! and bought it with my first money from that summers work. I raced into my bedroom and immediately upon hearing the chords to this song, "Promises in the Dark" I thought oh it's a slow song? then it kicked into high gear, and it still wasn't my favorite song at that point, I liked, "It's a Tuff Life,Fire & Ice,Helter Skelter,Hard to Believe, & Evil Genius" but like a slow burning ember,it grew on me and today it's MY favorite song from that album, I can't separate the songs to any of of your first 4 albums to choose just one for a favorite, I like them ALL equally and each one captured a moment in time in my young Rez life of finding Solace & JOY in your music while experiencing student summer jobs-Painting our school, building a picnic area & playing soccer, swimming in the lake, fishing and first crushes, so your songs vary to heighten my young life. Thank you for the music...I'm waiting for a NEW album of all new songs from you, and maybe again Travel to to pick it up, that small record shop called "Novelty shop" in the town of Fort is now gone, but my memories of picking up Precious Time remains SWEET! Thank you. This photo below of the Big old satellite dish , was HOW I FIRST Discovered PAT BENATAR'S MUSIC, that's how big the dishes use to be back in the early 1980's, it stand about 15-18 feet tall! Our village is about 24 Kilometres away from this logging camp name Silva-Can or Loval Cove [we call it Old Landing] Catching the satellight dish signals was the only link to the outside world when it came to entertainment, news or sports on Television, and not many people had TV s because electrical power lines were not hooked up to our small village yet, that came through in 1985. Because my parents were always giving the teachers moose meat and in return, they allowed us to have an extension cord hooked up to the school so we could have power and we were one of the first families to have tv on the reserve! we had our First taste watching movies on HBO/Cinemax,The Movie Channel, News, Hockey and MTV! catching the Satellite dish signals from the logging camp, It linked our home to the outside world, How exciting it was to catch all the latest Music hits of the early 1980's on Solid Gold and MTV! It was here that I first heard and caught PAT BENATAR on tv. At first my brother and cousins use to come home from work and say, Pat Benatar was on tv! I always felt cheated because I missed it but little later on I saw her videos to "You Better Run, I'm gonna follow you" repeating themselves on Mtv, I still can hear the sounds to the theme, "I want my Mtv", even now like it was yesterday, how innocent and exciting it was,I treasure the memories forever! Thank you Pat & Neil !

What a great song! Such a perfect mixture of killer rock and roll with such a beautiful vocal arrangement. When Pat sings "Just when you think you got it down...." she darkens the tone in a way I've never heard before. One of my all time favorites. Thank you guys so much.

How did I miss this site?! Been such a big fan of both Pat and Neil for SO many years. I started playing guitar back around the time when this song came out, I was around 11 or so. I was drawn to the melodic vocals along with Pat's powerful voice. I LOVE how Neil wasn't afraid to incorporate a strong guitar presence in the songs, along with blistering solos. No word of a lie, this has been one of my favorite solos of all time, as well as the song itself. I just love the changes in ttempo, the message, the incredible heart Pat puts into the vocals, and of course, Neil's face melting exploration of the entire fretboard!

I love Promises In The Dark. This was the song that cemented my love for Pat Benatar (and Neil too - lol). In those days, Pat was the star and Neil was the rockin guitar player. It wasn't until later that people began to recognize they're a duo (you gotta understand the music scene back then). However, while I of course loved Pats singing along with everyone else, it was actually the guitar playing that sold this one for me. The riff is so cool with those higher chords ringing out and then, and then, that solo. Man, that's how a solo is done - a story told from beginning to end, with all the tricks along the way - incredible stuff. (Guitar players take notes.) Then those awesome breaks later on - it's a rock and roll masterpiece every step of the way. (songwriters take notes.) So, the kid that loved hard rock and became a metal-head a bit later on, had to hide the fact I loved Pat Benatar to my metal-head friends if I could! LOL. I got teased for owning those tapes more than once. What can I say, those friends of mine had limited taste. If you can't appreciate this track for the rippin rocker it is, you aint alive. Bravo! Sounds as great all these years later, I've cranked it as loud as I can get away with every time I've heard it and I've never gotten sick of it. Now that I've finally discovered youtube and am filling my playlist, this one made it on there right off the top of my head.

Lmao! Shawn Sawyer, the guy before me just explained what happened to me today, lmao! I’m 53 and from Bay Ridge Brooklyn myself. I have pneumonia right now so all I’m doing is a whole bunch of nothing. I woke up with this song in my head today as well ironically. When I went to put it on RUclips and I saw a video of the life and tragic death of Pat Benatar and I got so efin sad because I’ve been listening to you guys since the beginning, love the group tremendously and still listen to you all of the time. I went straight to the internet and found out the asshole was click bating. The only comment he got was me calling him a liar and a fuckin asshole. I was so sad I got choked up. Anyway I’m so relieved and I want to say thank you all for all of your hard work, your ups and downs, for putting your lives on paper. It’s songs like this specifically that helped me through my own life’s problems. You all mean so much to me and I love you two like family I haven’t seen but need to. Wish you were hitting the east Coast. I’d have front row seats ❤️👇🏽🤟🏽
