So the dude just walks into someone's home unannounced and shoots her, because she had a gun on her due to the fact that she had no idea who was coming in. And all this could have been avoided with a simple knock on the door by the police officer for a wellness check. Unbelievable.

This so infuriating because this police department tried to criminalize Ms. Jefferson. I am wondering why you take a job that you're scared to do. At first I didn't blame the officer and blamed the 911 dispatcher . But I discovered the officer and his partner didn't identify and announce themselves. Then the officer gave an order but did not give enough time for Ms. Jefferson to comply. The police department tried to make Ms. Jefferson the criminal for defending herself and her nephew.

I don't blame Atatiana for getting her gun, because she was alone with a child and there was 2 strangers in her backyard approaching with guns. She did the right thing to try to protect herself, her nephew and their home.
The cops never announced themselves and that's total BS! If they would've announced themselves right away at the front door, Atatiana wouldn't have gotten scared and got her gun.
Also, the fact this cop shot her and didn't immediately call an ambulance or provide her emergency medical aid - that is completely inexcusable and unforgivable. He just let her bleed to death. HE LET HER DIE!

I used to make calls like that to the police, but now I literally don't trust them. Anytime I've called police for like an actual violent act happening on the streets or in front of my house they didn't show up till like half hour later anyway.

They need to change the procedure on how they deal with these unannounced calls! Maybe a couple of cars should have pulled up put over head brights on the house, got on the speaker and made contact! Announcing their presence as police, Instead the procedure for most departments is to show up don’t announce you’re and investigate! Meanwhile a legit howe owner doesn’t know who you are, and prepare to defend themselves!

12/13/2022: It is so SAD😭that we are like this. The police are on edge and so are the citizens. This police officer used POOR judgement by not SPEAKING up and letting her know he was there and why. This is an incident that could have been avoided. There have also been police who have been shot just pulling someone over to tell them that they have a taillight out too. This is the world in which we live and I do not see it getting better. 😭😭😭😭😭😭My condolence to the family✝️✝️

I am puzzle about Black Americans, What is friendly next door neighbour, Is the neighbour so concern and scare about checking the welfare of his neighbour... hoops 'the stand your ground law'. The overzealous and incompetent cop officer Aaron Dean is culpable and guilty for the untimely dead of Atatiana Jefferson.

Indeed, what was the REASON for him making the call at 2 - 3 A.M. in the first place? Secondly, an 8 year child should've been in bed asleep.
Thirdly, the action of the police officer was totally inexcusable.

More like a kid that got bullied and chose it to feel like he had some authority and he wouldn’t be bullied anymore. The caller should kinda feel bad she probably just burnt dinner and had to air it out.

Manslaughter might be the appropriate technical call, but there should be a price for sloppy police work which results in senseless death - something like _reckless endangerment._ Maybe they can sue the city and get restitution. Who knows?

Let’s see the whole film. Also why not close the door and call the police. You can’t shoot through the window. The cop should have backed off instead of firing. He needed to announce himself as police at the door. This tragedy happened because both were careless, however she lost her life. Now how can this be fixed….it can’t! Prayer for the family.

People need to learn when you call the police, you are putting someone's life on the line, if videos has taught us anything, it is 1. Police lie on a regular basis, 2. Far too many officers, are suffering from mental illness.

Just dont understand why he creeps around the home at night without saying anything
