Yep he's a really good archer, and i trust his opinion to. Would love a trad longbow, I have a takedown longbow but it's a very cheap bow with some kind of metal limbs, it shoots well, but just not what i really want. I have 3 bows but my samick sage is my baby. But i desperately need a trad longbow.
40 to 45lb is my go to poundage with a bow. I have three and two are those cheap bows with metal limbs, but the 45lb does shoot well, the 60lb is ok to for the money. But my 45lb samick sage is my baby but i so want a trad longbow. Unfortunately due to health issues even 300 is steep for me, my samick was around 175 uk. And even though Amazon do a layway purchase ive had issues in the past getting bows off them, so i went straight to the company itself to buy my samick, recently put on string silencers and limb dampners you put on the upper limb although i may change them to velcro, but it has dramatically made my bow more quiet. And going to get flemish fast flight string to. It really does suck being on the breadline as a good bow does cost abit over what i can comfortably afford. But where theres a will theres a way. Love your channel, its my go to for reviews and knowledge. Thankyou for sharing that knowledge and giving honest reviews. 🙏🎯
I bought the Oberon longbow after watching your video. Everything you said in your video, I found to be true. When the Oberon recurve became available, I got it, too. I love the recurve! I purchased the 60lb.model. I have a 30in. Draw length and see no stacking at my draw length, which is a major issue at my draw length! Thanks for the advice in your video and for your honest review!
This was another great review, Jeff, and I appreciate your willingness to express your unbridled enthusiasm about the Oberon, which looked great to me when I first saw it in the newest 3Rivers catalog. Here are two ideas for a follow up: 1. How about shooting two different weights of hunting arrow through the chronograph with the Oberon just to see what sort of numbers it puts up? (Not that this matters to the deer!) 2. How about reviewing the Bearpaw Quick Stick 60" Hybrid Longbow, which 3Rivers also sells? Although it's priced at $100 more than the Oberon, the two bows SEEM to have a lot in common. Just a thought, Chris (in Maine)
I got my oberon wendsday. I already ordered my strings from ttt and had them.i put the strings on the 50 pound longbow and it tuned like magic. I tuned it with gold tip traditional classic arrows at. 204 diameter. 615 grain arrow at 49 pounds and omg jeff it shoots like a 1000 dollar bow.i agree the grip is one of the best I've ever felt.for 399.99 it's a steal and deadly accurate.great review as always. 😊
I just ordered this longbow yesterday due to your review of it. I find it to be a beautiful looking bow and look forward to getting to shoot it. I am coming off shooting compound bows for many years so it will be quite a change for me. You make it look so easy but I know it will not be for me. Thanks for the review!
Great bow.bought mine right when they were released.its a sweet shooter and fast.its like a custom 900 dollar bow for the price.i did a review on it for 3 rivers on the website. i really love your channel also.im a saddle hunting fanatic.

Nice Bow! I own 3 Black Hunter Bows and for the price they are great shooters! I have one Black Hunter Longbow that is 45lb @28" and will hunt deer and hog this next season.😁
I believe i detect more noise with this bow vs the recurve? Beautiful bow though!!! Jeff, have you thought of doing a close up of the target in a small picture in the corner during your shooting?
Thanks for another great video and review. Your shooting skills amaze me. You shoot so many different bows with incredible accuracy. How accurate were you when you decided to hunt trad?
Hi Jeff Duane here. I just got my Oberon a couple days ago. What brace height were you at on it ? I’m at 7.5” but I seen on a forum 8” is where it should be. Just wondering where you had it at. I got the 50 lber. On bare shaft paper tuning my up and down is perfect have just a small tear left. I’ll problem cut another 1/4” off this shaft this morning and continue to tune. Glad I found you love your content even though I’ve been shooting trad for 43 years. Stay well Deuey
Yes sir I’m shooting a 7 3/4” on mine but I only have a 27” draw so I can actually shoot a 7.5” and still get a really good bare shaft tune without any arm contact 👍🏻
So I would be interested to see if you can get your hands on the Fleetwood timber ridge long bow seeing how it’s a similar price and how that would compare.
Just curious how this bow compares in performance with the Sanlida X8 recurve and some of the cheaper bows you have reviewed. I own custom rigs but i want to get my girlfriend into archery and would like quality as well as economy.
Jeff thanks for the education .Is the feel of the draw weight less on the carbon bamboo then actual bow weight ? I am not able to shoot my 40# bows as long as I use to,have dropped to 38# I'm very interested in the oberon and would like to get the 40# if it is a lighter draw . I shoot 3-D a lot and am interested in that gtip you so like.
Yes sir I use power grip serving material, most any serving works fine and TTT Strings has a really good RUclips video on how to tie the adjustable nocks👍🏻
Hey Jeff! Another great video! Question for you. I’m looking for some arrows for a Black Widow long bow (PL carbon). The bow is 40 lbs at 28 (I pull exactly 28”) I would like to put 250gr up front. Can you recommend what spline for both a 5/16” carbon arrow and a small diameter carbon arrow? I like a 1.5” past my riser. Thank you, Sir!
Absolutely, I would say a 600 would tune great for you cut 29.5” in standard and .204 but honestly every bow is different and the PL’s with carbon will have a bit more energy than some other longbows so you might be pushing a 600 if you’re drawing a full 28” so a 500 cut at 30” may be better and the only way to know for sure is to grab a bare shaft test kit from 3rivers to see exactly what the bow likes best especially with 250gr up front on a 29.5-30” arrow.
Hi Jeff, great review! Question for you? I have a short drawl length 24.5 I'm shooting a 58in 55lb@28 R&D bow it's about 40 at my drawl length. I was told you drop 2.5lbs for every inch below 28. I'm losing more to be at 40 is that because I'm not pulling the bow back enough. Would I get better performance with a costume bow at 24.5 @45?
There are lots of variables and each bow is different in how the pounds stack also where the brace height is set but most bows average around 2.5-3# close to the 28” mark per inch of draw👍🏻
@@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998So if you get to 24.5 it's gonna be more than 2.5 or 3in? Can I change the brace hight from factory 7 to 7.5 and get more weight back? Or is that short of a draw length just a problem for a factory bow? Thanks
Hey Jeff, in the 45# bow with a 28” draw, what affordable arrow recommendation would you have for hunting? Looking for total arrow weight around 540-580 gr.
To hit that total weight you’ll want something like Gold Tip Traditional in a 500 spine with the 100 grain brass inserts , the warriors will finish out around 480 grains because they’re lighter gpi shafts 👍🏻

Honestly I would figure a 500 spine but if you already have the arrows you can shoot just the strike plate with no shims and use calf hair that’ll give you a true center shot and it will probably shoot the 400’s but mine tunes with 500’s running 300 grains up front drawing right at 43# on a 28” arrow, just really need to grab a bare shaft test kit from 3rivers to play with and know for sure what it likes best 👍🏻
@@robbo392 I don’t usually run any of the shims on a satori myself and my 45# limbs shoot 500 spine arrows really good at my 27” draw with anywhere from 250-300 grain points, a 400 spine is really meant for actual draw weight of over 45# unless they’re fairly long like 30” or more but a satori is a very versatile bow that can be made to tune a variety of arrows by working with the strike plate and that’s what I like about them!
