Thank you for your bow reviews including the Black Hunter 'longbow' version. I own 4 of these bows and enjoy them very much for their smoothness, accuracy, quietness, and pleasure in simply shooting 'Trad' archery. I am 74 years old shortly and have owned many, many, traditional bows including Bear, Herters, expensive hand-crafted bows. I liked each of them for what they were and enjoyed a Stotler handcrafted bow ($700+) the most. However, my second choice for pleasure is the inexpensive Black Hunter long-bow (Twig Archery) as unbelievable as it may sound. Archery is a great hobby and in many ways a health builder i.e. physical strength, hand-eye coordination, mental relaxation and clarity, and simply just 'Fun'. bill bartholomew, Pennsylvania

You're leaving out the lighting and audio component. Arguably the most important thing to making something watchable, and he nailed it. So many channels mess this part up, but he's done a great job. You can tell he genuinely takes pride in his work

Great bow it was one of four on my birthday list I made for my wife to decide a present among other things I hinted at. This bow has made me very happy seeing Kramer's review solidified my personal opinion of this bow. I have a modest 5 bows in my own collection but this is my favorite shooter.

I love your channel. You are a really a smart guy and your competence about bows pp. is amazing. There are a lot of people out there, on YT or elsewhere, but your channel is outstanding. The way you are "teaching" us about bows is great: You're authentic, down to earth and really entertaining. All in all you're doing a good job, and as long as you don't loose your enthusiasm, you'll have success. Thanks for your work and all the best for you and your family. Including dogs and cats 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to do these reviews. I'm looking for a bow for my son for Christmas. We have always hunted deer with crossbows but two years ago I purchased a samick sage ( which I love) and took a deer with it this year. No sights, no plunger, just some vibration dampeners and shooting off the shelf. Although, I'm very comfortable with it, I have nothing to compare it to. My son and I have agreed on getting him a different recurve just for the possible differences. We are leaning towards the mandarin duck series...this video helps.

I’ve had this same bow for about 2 weeks (40lb) and have shot about 200 arrows through it. I shot traditional decades ago and this bow has rekindled my interest in archery. I would echo your remarks on how smooth it shoots and how low the hand shock is. I draw 31.5 so I reduced the brace height to 5 inches which is less than the recommended height but it still shoots fine. So far 110% happy with the purchase. Nice review

Two months ago I started dragging my colleagues to the 3D-Bow Parks in our area on a regular basis. Walking and shooting the park is a really nice social and outdoorsy (but not too physically challenging) thing that can still be done in Covid times. Think golf with arrows. People are really starting to crave these occasions now. In early October I had to persuade people to come along. Now there are so many requests that I nearly can't handle them anymore. All these people need equipment, so your recommendations for entry level bows in the lower price range are very valuable at the moment. Thank you!

Hey 👋! I am so blown away by your articulate presentation! I am a proud owner of my Black Hunter recurve bow! And I found most of what you express to be true (in my limited ability as a shooter only) it just feels so right too! Your talent for building bows is not overshadowed by the bows you test, nor do they most likely, outshine your work. I’m a student of the great Canadian Master, Gare Chayne and now a huge fan of yourself! I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more of your presentations! Can you explain what I call (for lack of the correct term, “unaiming)” which is to say, shooting without aiming, yet hitting many bullseyes. I ask because, apparently, that’s the best way for me to shoot and hit the target. And I am a newbie at 70 years; so I’ll take what I can get in just about everything! Thankz! JGL

I've been a little leery of some of the one star reviews on Amazon that describe the bow coming from together, but as you pointed out (I hadn't noticed the earlier dates on the bad reviews), the durability problems have probably been addressed. Thank you for taking the time to do these reviews; they are very helpful for those of us just entering the archery scene.

I bought the 50# variant of this bow last year to use for the upcoming deer season. I saw this review and several others that gave almost nothing short of high praise so I felt confident jumping on one when I found it on sale at like $78. I had very little archery experience prior to this purchase aside from making a few PVC bows nearly a decade ago so I wasn't sure if I'd be ready to take it out hunting when deer season approached. I watched what must have been hundreds of videos trying to figure out how to tune arrows to the bow that were suitable for hunting, how to aim the bow consistently, etc. I settled on string walking, in about a 4 week period I went from losing arrows every day to getting 6 inside of 5-6" at 20-25 yards consistently using the exact setup I planned to hunt with. I took 4 deer in the first week out, all at about 20 yards and it really solidified in my mind what an excellent purchase I had made. I'm coming up on a solid year since my purchase now and not long after deer season ended I got another for my wife, a 35# recurve and I constantly recommend this bow to everyone every chance I get. My only regret is that I didn't get one sooner seeing as I'd been eyeing one since I saw the NuSensei review like 7 years ago lol.

Bought this exact bow 2 years ago on ebay and the top limb broke after 3 months or so. I contacted the seller about it, but he didn't respond. Because I liked the bow so much, I bought replacement limbs from another seller and it still shoots amazing. Bumped about the broken limb and no replacement limb or even response from the first seller, but I'm happy with it now.

I have the recurve-version. After 20 shot the top limb delaminated. I got a replacement (5 weeks) and after another 200 shots the bottom limb broke through the hardwood core. I got half of the price as a cashback, repaired the limbs carefull with epoxy and shooting the bow without any problems afterwards. Maybe I had just bad luck. The batch seemed to have had problems with the glue (maybe wrong temperature during drying or whatever). But i would still recommend to buy the bow at a company with a little bit of a higher quality control (Drake, Mandarin Duck or something like this) just to avoid such problems. Apart from that: A very smooth and good bow. Keep up your great work and all the best from Germany.

Gotta love a guy that shows no prejudice when he reviews an item. So many of the higher profile YT archery guys show contempt for the Chinese bows , whinging about the smallest thing and only review them as the budget bows are so popular and they get a lot of views. Kramer, the bomb!

I think one of many reasons those reviewers do it is because some of them might have connections to local archery shops or even 3Rivers or Lancaster. If they don't have a negative mindset towards forgien bow suppliers, then those suppliers would be legitimate competition for say 3Rivers, whom doesn't want competition, bc competition would mean they would have to lower their prices. 3Rivers wants us to view the Black Hunter as a cheap budget bow so we can spend 300$ on their Old Mesa instead. 200$ more makes some ppl feel like that means its better....has to be.
All of my bows with the exception of 2(Korean supplier and Ukrainian supplier) are from China. Specifically one of the most respected suppliers in the Horsebow market. Zero complaints about them and their bows.

Just got the Mandarin Duck TD longbow, arrived in 7 days from china to the east coast USA, that alone is amazing as I'm still awaiting a vendor package from Florida that shipped out 2-1/2 weeks ago, Grrr. I've been heavy into archery since a kid in 1953, all flavors but particularly traditional archery and mostly Hill-style longbows. Needing a backup TD longbow for an upcoming flyaway hog bowhunt I took a chance on the Black Hunter offering and so far I've not be disappointed. I ordered the last 45@28 in stock and that's what arrived, as my Easton digital draw weight scale registers a consistent 45.3lbs holding weight at exactly 28" of draw length (to the front of the bow shelf). I was specifically intrigued with this bow due to the bamboo limbs as that's what I prefer on all longbows. Bottom line, very pleased. Super smooooooth draw to past 28" (thanx to bamboo), good speed with 10 to 12 gpp woodies and carbons alike. There is some boinging noise happening on release as the R/D limbs and tips do their wiggles, this is normal, but that was easily tamed with a pair of wool silencers inserted into the string ... speaking of which, the supplied string was a tad too short at 56-1/2", so I spun up a new B55 14 strand endless string at 57-1/2", which is a teeny bit long as I expected and that allowed putting in some good twists to nicely round it off. This yields a brace height of 8" to the depth of the grip. The supplied swatch of sticky backed hair hide would make a good shelf rest (there should have been instructions to let newbies know to make sure the hair points forward when making a hair rest), but I prefer Velcro sticky back loop instead. All in all, for the low price point, overall good build and materials, and good performance (stable on the release and fast arrow speed), I'll give this bow 9 out of 10 stars .... if it lasts without issues for a year's worth of shooting I'll up that rating to 10 stars. Cheers! :)

I have not shot a bow for about 20 yrs and this bow gave me so much confidence. My form and grouping have gotten very consistent and tight. Already thinking of a new bow.
    Any recommendation?
    Great vid btw.👍🏾🏹🎯

Did someone recommend those arrows for you? Seems a bit to stiff to me. I shoot 400 spine but at 50 lbs, and I still had to add more weight up front. Anyway, you're gonna LOVE the grip on that bow!

My wife and I have three of these. A 45#, a 50# that my wife stole from me (I mean stole! Just a smile and a smooch and bye bye) and my 60#. We love these bows and from a wall full of bows these ste the ones that get shot the most. Great review, great system and honest evaluation.

I have had one of each(longbow and recurve)for a little over a year. I like the long bow a little better.. Both are excellent and I can’t get over how stable they are for having such a short riser. Tremendous value!

I recently purchased the black hunter long bow in 45#. I was very careful with the assembly, and have been flexing it every day without shooting it. Treating it as carefully as possible. The recommended spine arrow is 500 with a 125 grain point, I'll start there.

Howdy Kramer, I really enjoy your videos. Looking at the riser and the different shape of the ends of the limbs. It doesn't look like a crafty person would have any problem with doing a little DIY shaping and refinishing to make either switch look good.

Update: love it! Upgraded my limbs and customized mine with a 3 pin sight and a whisker biscuit I installed myself!

I have the 60lb version with 555gr wooden arrows cut to 29" 60-65 spine. Absolute LASER and hits like a truck, not only did I get a passthrough on my first deer at about 15 yards, but the impact knocked it to the ground for a second before it jumped up and ran 20 yards before dying. Went to recover the arrow and it was buried in the ground directly under where I hit the deer, such an amazing bow if you have proper arrows for it, ill never need another bow.

I bought one three or four years back #45. Put a Flemish twist string, leather grip pad. Love it! Poor man's Acadian Woods Tree Stick. Also bought the #40 limbs for off season.

I have the recurve version of this by Junxing #30 and absolutely love it. Bought it second hand for $100 Australian . Started shootings with some cheap ish eBay carbon arrows and after I bought the black eagle vintage 500 spine. There was no setup or tuning necessary, the combination works like a charm.

Thanks for making the recommendation of this bow. I purchased one probably made by the same manufacturer but a different name and the recurve version I got it the other day and attached the limbs but have yet to string it.
I ordered 60lb limb version and while I could perhaps string it without a stringer I decided to wait and make a stringer first. I'm going to give it a chance but may return it to amazon as it initially feels too bulky of a grip, regular.
Southpaw it feels good however that doesn't change the orientation arrow rest though and would be at least a little awkward to try to shoot that way. I could probably mod the riser to be more comfortable I may do that.
I think I understand why you said it shoots smooth with very little hand shock and that is the bulk/weight of the riser. I ordered another bow called a Kainokai for a bit cheaper. It isn't as traditional in appearance having a cast aluminum riser but had at least one shining review by a guy that seemed to be a well versed archer.
I view a bow as a tool first and as a aesthetic piece second. I do want to be proficient with a recurve and appreciate it for what it is and thus plan on shooting with them before getting back into compounds.
I probably should thank you for you're non archery type videos and I suppose I do but I'm pretty much on autopilot these days and perhaps impossible to encourage with live in the moment type stuff.
Anyway pretty excited to be able to do archery again after like 20 years away from it and having never taken a Deer or anything, hunting.

Enjoying this video series on cheap bow. This one thought seems to be standing out not only in looks but it shoot ability. What do you think the maximum draw length would be with it in the long bow setup

Limb nock breakage is the most common bowyer defect. But they don't tell you if they dry fired it or struck something with the nock while shooting. No matter how well you build something there's always breakage.

I bought this bow a few months ago . 60 pound draw weight at 28 inches , it is by far my most accurate and dependable bow that I own. I would have no problem paying a few hundred dollars more to get this version at 80 pounds draw if it were possible .

Kramer, I purchased one new from ebay and had the issue with the tip coming off. The glue that let go, but I was able to get it back and glue it back on myself. So far so good, but I did have to make a new string as the one on the bow at the time got destroyed when the tip let go.

KRAMER IM SO HYPED AND PROUD OF YOU FOR YOUR CHANNEL GROWTH MAN.
Edit: if you see this Kramer I have a question, specifically do you think this bow could be used as a hunting bow? I know some manufacturers make bows just for target shooting so.

You'll find many people online (both on RUclips and various archery forums) who are hunting quite successfully with this bow. Make sure you know your local laws particularly in regards to draw weight! Many jurisdictions require 40lbs or more to hunt but that's not universal.

I got ptsd and anxiety so for me archery is meditation and relaxation. Im in a bow club and loaning gear now. But am out of work so cant afford my own gear i dream of having a good recurve bow and target so i can shoot everyday would help me a lot both with the ptsd/anxiety and getting in better shape.

Touching on the black hunter recurve. I bought the 35 and 45 lbs. huge difference in smoothness!!! The 35lbs is noisy and not so smooth. 45lbs bow is just freaking amazing and silent even before pitting beaver pelt.

I have one of these. It was great for my first real bow. Unfortunately, I broke the limb tip. It was my fault and a total newbie kind of thing trying to sting it in a bad way. Because of the pandemic and the shutdown of supply chains I have not been able to get a replacement set of limbs. I almost just bought a whole new one but ended up getting a 62" single-piece longbow. Figured as a new archer I might as well see what else was out there. Some day if the limbs become available I will replace them and shoot it again. Until then, at least it breaks down for easy storage.

Great review buddy i will be seeking out either the black hunter recurve or the black hunter long bow (i have rather long arms for my height) they are bttypically way more expensive in UK and i shall try seek out a used one to get started. I have made a comment earlier on one of your other videos telling about the UK and its archery community being lets say rater "Snobbish" so it will be a home learning project and probably go with the home made targets. Thankyou for a great little review.
