    I've been through 3 pairs of Hey Dude shoes dating back to ~2012ish. The first two pair absolutely had cork in the insole which is part of the reason I loved them. The third pair didn't have a gram of cork in the insole and definitely had a different feel and I haven't bought a pair since. I still like the style but I don't wear these types of shoes for style, I wear them for comfort around the house, for driving, and short walks to a store. First you ignore the video, which has an actual review including the materials, and instead talk about how the shoes “look” to you, as if any body should care about your uninformed opinion.
      Then you make a stupid comment lumping all Americans and American cities together into a stereotype that was never particularly true. The average American walks around 1-2 miles per day, more than the 800m walked by the Dutch, and less than the 2-3 miles walked by the Japanese. Of course, if you live in rural areas or highly urban ones, that number increases drastically-as it does in every other country.

      Your best bet then would be to go with small brands built in north america. Factories in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico all widely range in terms of quality of work, life etc for their workers. Most big brands make sure that the factories they work with are on the up and up but sometimes thing get through. Apple builds all their phones with foxxconn - the biggest tech factories in China and despite the high quality of worker, tech know how and such the living conditions, hours and pay could def be way better - that is a trillion dollar company that could afford to make their manufacturing better but do not. For clothes and shoes - it is generally a bit worse.

      @carterz9343 Год назад +4

      @@corail53Unsurprisingly, even the "Big Brands" that say they're on the up-and-up almost never are. There's a whole system that makes it impossible to properly audit the factories the brands contract with if they're not in the US. The Auditors are only ever hired by the factory owners, which incentivizes them to overlook problems.
      The people that work there may be in terrible conditions. But that just means they don't have any better options. Speaking up puts a target on their back and they lose the only job they have access to if they try to whistleblow.
      You're right about buying stuff from the US whenever possible. But that costs way more. Capitalism is truly awful. It's way too easy to outsource suffering and poverty if we don't personally have to see it and it saves us a few bucks.

    i had those shoes back in like 2015 before anybody else around had seen or heard about them. randomly found them on woot for like $30 and figured what the hell and gave them a try. everyone gave me so much shit for wearing them lol they were so comfy though, and easy to slip on and off. i wore them for years before they got too nasty and i had to ditch them. i remember when i started seeing them in stores in like 2019 and thought it was funny they were starting to catch on. im quite the trendsetter. or unfashionable cheapskate who enjoyed a deal at the cost of fashion.... either way, not bad shoes for casual wear.

    Oh, ok! So this is why Crocs stopped selling the only shoe of theirs I would be caught dead in. The Croc Santa Cruz, looks close to these with a Croc sole, allowing you to be comfortable but allowing you keep your dignity. They discontinued the Santa Cruz like two years ago, I have to imagine this shoe is the reason why.

      @hobotify Год назад

      Discontinued? Damn. I am on my second pair of Santa Cruz, and i love that shoe so much. My first pair had that frayed moc toe that i wasn´t a fan of, but the Santa Cruz 2 is a perfect summer shoe. Light, soft, easy to put on, no laces, breathable, machine washable. And it also cost me $60. I´ve worn it every day from may to september the last 3 years - in the city, to the beach, even on light hikes. I can get it soaking wet, the upper is just a thin canvas, it dries really fast. I should really stock up on them, i checked, retailers still have some pairs left.

      @@hobotify Yeah I first discovered the Santa Cruz as I was preparing for my first trip to India. They were perfect for long walks and monsoon season. That was 2009, since then I've had half a dozen pairs, but I noticed they became harder and harder to find around 2019 and now they are officially discontinued. The SC v2 looks ok, a little bit classier, I'll have to get a pair soon, thanks for the suggestion.

I can buy a pair of Sketchers for the same $ and they’ll survive a year of outdoor-indoor all weather use. I noticed these getting popular and they are just another shoe designed for max profit. What does it say about todays work ethic when everyone wants to wear stylish slippers all day? Would I ever buy a pair? No dude.

    I bought a pair of Hey Dude shoes a few months ago when T-Mobile had a huge discount offer on them. They are really comfortable for walking around inside the house. I agree with your method for tying the laces.
    Unfortunately I find them flimsy and unsafe for use outside on the streets. You can feel the smallest pebble poke your feet through the sole. The inner lining is already coming apart.
    Great as house shoes/ slippers. Not worth $60. I’m glad I bought them at a highly discounted price. I’d probably buy another pair if I could get the same deal as before. I think it was 60% off.

    I really appreciate the backstory/history you give on these companies. As for the Hey Dudes themselves...meh. Don't get me wrong, I see tons of men, women, and children in them daily here in the Midwest (especially now being warmer weather). But I agree they certainly serve their purpose as decently comfortable for the cheap price shoes, and they come in seemingly dozens of styles (if that's the right term?). I also already own ~6pr of Crocs so really why would I buy these that aren't all waterproof or as comfortable? One last thing: as far as comfort goes, the only time I actually tried some on, I happened to be wearing my felt Highlanders from KEEN. Maybe it's just because I'm on the heavy side, or my fairly flat feet, or just the orthotic insole, but there was absolutely no comparison-the KEENs are leaps and bounds more comfortable than these. And I'll put money on them being more durable too. I love those KEENs so much, I found 2 more pair (on clearance too which made them cheaper than the Hey Dudes).

What surprised me most is how well they fit me, as I've very thin feet for a man and I usually avoid mocs because they're always way too large and they slip off my feet when I walk. But not these shoes, they adapt very well thanks to the stretchiness of the fabric.

Granted, Converse leave a lot to be desired, but they're in the same price range. I'm in fact amazed how strong the Hey Dudes are.
