Agree but their construction has taken a nosedive in the last few years. The pair I purchased in 2016 versus the pair I got about a year ago are night and day. Thinner leather, worse stitching, awful paltry (GLUED) insole, just bad. Not nearly as comfortable. Still wear em a bunch because they cost $$$ but it’s very disheartening. Oh, ok! So this is why Crocs stopped selling the only shoe of theirs I would be caught dead in. The Croc Santa Cruz, looks close to these with a Croc sole, allowing you to be comfortable but allowing you keep your dignity. They discontinued the Santa Cruz like two years ago, I have to imagine this shoe is the reason why.
Discontinued? Damn. I am on my second pair of Santa Cruz, and i love that shoe so much. My first pair had that frayed moc toe that i wasn´t a fan of, but the Santa Cruz 2 is a perfect summer shoe. Light, soft, easy to put on, no laces, breathable, machine washable. And it also cost me $60. I´ve worn it every day from may to september the last 3 years - in the city, to the beach, even on light hikes. I can get it soaking wet, the upper is just a thin canvas, it dries really fast. I should really stock up on them, i checked, retailers still have some pairs left.
@@hobotify Yeah I first discovered the Santa Cruz as I was preparing for my first trip to India. They were perfect for long walks and monsoon season. That was 2009, since then I've had half a dozen pairs, but I noticed they became harder and harder to find around 2019 and now they are officially discontinued. The SC v2 looks ok, a little bit classier, I'll have to get a pair soon, thanks for the suggestion.
I have vans that look like that. I have like 12 pairs in different colors and materials. They don’t make them anymore and i still have some in boxes :)
$60 for a sock glued to a slab of no support, no traction foam, with laces that don’t tie. I can buy a pair of Sketchers for the same $ and they’ll survive a year of outdoor-indoor all weather use. I noticed these getting popular and they are just another shoe designed for max profit. What does it say about todays work ethic when everyone wants to wear stylish slippers all day? Would I ever buy a pair? No dude.
I bought a pair of Hey Dude shoes a few months ago when T-Mobile had a huge discount offer on them. They are really comfortable for walking around inside the house. I agree with your method for tying the laces. Unfortunately I find them flimsy and unsafe for use outside on the streets. You can feel the smallest pebble poke your feet through the sole. The inner lining is already coming apart. Great as house shoes/ slippers. Not worth $60. I’m glad I bought them at a highly discounted price. I’d probably buy another pair if I could get the same deal as before. I think it was 60% off.
Looks like something made for prisoners or to give to the homeless. On second thought I would give homeless nicer looking shoes.😅 They are much better looking than crocs though without a doubt.
My sister managed a surf store for the Animal brand over a decade ago - she got me a pair on discount. I still wear them like slippers to this day. The upper just got very baggy with wear
There's always a pair on sale for under $40 and as crazy comfortable as they are I think it's plenty worth it. And the huge slope breaks in for me so I don't notice it. The only negative to me is they wear pretty quickly on the pavement.
I am at my second pair of Hey Dudes, and they both had some cork top in the insole. The cork did not last long though, and I replaced it with a leather insole which is much more comfortable (but cost like 1/4 of the price of the hole show)
This is a re-designed shoe with a heavier soul. This shoe or this house shoe was actually called by the people who wore them called the Dickie and how shoes it was really a house shoe you would be able to get these at Kmart or Walmart back in the 80s and 90s probably even earlier than that in the movie boys in the hood, you can see ice cube wearing them in it with a pair of shorts and high knee socks.
I really appreciate the backstory/history you give on these companies. As for the Hey Dudes themselves...meh. Don't get me wrong, I see tons of men, women, and children in them daily here in the Midwest (especially now being warmer weather). But I agree they certainly serve their purpose as decently comfortable for the cheap price shoes, and they come in seemingly dozens of styles (if that's the right term?). I also already own ~6pr of Crocs so really why would I buy these that aren't all waterproof or as comfortable? One last thing: as far as comfort goes, the only time I actually tried some on, I happened to be wearing my felt Highlanders from KEEN. Maybe it's just because I'm on the heavy side, or my fairly flat feet, or just the orthotic insole, but there was absolutely no comparison-the KEENs are leaps and bounds more comfortable than these. And I'll put money on them being more durable too. I love those KEENs so much, I found 2 more pair (on clearance too which made them cheaper than the Hey Dudes).
I had no clue they had been around for 10+ years! As a Florida man, everyone I see has these. But I didn’t start seeing them en mass until 2-3 years ago.
I got my first pair this year. Stylish, comfortable, lightweight, easy to walk in, relatively inexpensive, they check all of the boxes. I could care less about branding. They’re popular because people like wearing them.
Weston, can you start destroying some pairs of shoes made by sustainability oriented brands? Some brands that I've used before and know of include Cariuma, Nothing New, Saola, Allbirds. Id love to see what's in them and what your take on the materials is. I have a pair of Saola shoes and they are extremely comfy and supposedly made with algae bio-foam. Id love to see a series on sustainability marketed shoes maybe
I typically wear redwings, custom Drew's Boots, etc. But I have been wearing Hey Dudes since long before they were popular (about 10 years now). I currently own 3 pair. They are comfortable, pack easily for travel, and also have made great boat shoes. They have enough styles to fit (almost) any occasion. I will continue to always have at least a pair or two of Hey Dudes in the rotation.
I've never seen this shoe in my life until I visited my bf's family at their cabin and they ALL owned a pair. Glad I got this video shortly after so I understand the hype
Great video! Thanks. Do you ever do contrast and compare between the men’s version of the shoe and the woman’s version of the shoe in any given brand? Are they usually the same quality? Just wondering.
I've been waiting for him to do that because manufacturers definitely create the two differently. I guess it would make the videos a bit longer but it would be great to see the comparison and helpful for women who need to know.
Got a pair from Amazon for $35 about 6 months ago. Comfortable and easy to slip on if just around the house and outdoors or a quick errand. Haven’t seen them much in LA but there is a proliferation of ugly crocs.
Wow, I'm British and we used to have shoes like these in the early days of rave (around 1989)/ They were great for dancing in. I had a bright red pair of such shoes, and I miss them for their comfort.
As a fairly wide-footer I can completely agree it's all about the upper. That makes or breaks the sneaker for me. Those 270s don't hurt even though it looks like they would, because of all the breathable mesh. I definitely get why the Hey Dude upper would be appealing comfort-wise. These grey ones just look like rebranded knit boat shoes, but some of what they offer are up there with the ugliest around.
I need wide toe boxes, and just bought a super cheap 19.99 pair of minimalist shoes off amazon and love the way feel on my feet. Zero drop, thin some. So definitely NOT "comfy". But it what I was looking for.
I tend to hate anything that becomes a giant TREND, that’s why people wear stupid looking space ship shoes and go out into public looking like an idiot, but thinking they are hip😂. Hate crocs too!
They are ugly as heck and too expensive for what they are. All I hear is they are comfortable. Comfort okay, but they are ugly. I’ll just wear crocs. They are ugly and they do last longer.

They are basically unknown (yet) in France, but they are on Amazon ; bought a pair after your enthusiastic review, and I love them ! A lot of people have asked what they are, and I basically answer : Crocs for grown ups. Perfect for the summer, I chose the red canvas seen in your videos. What surprised me most is how well they fit me, as I've very thin feet for a man and I usually avoid mocs because they're always way too large and they slip off my feet when I walk. But not these shoes, they adapt very well thanks to the stretchiness of the fabric.
"Crocs for grownups" is a bs description for a cheaply made shoe that isn't anywhere near as versatile as crocs. And this is coming from a man who wouldn't be caught dead wearing crocs.
@@willbearheart7919 : they are not "cheaply" made ; I've worn them everywhere since I bought them, rotating with Converse and other shoes this winter and they don't show any sign of wear, either in the fabric or the sole, while the Converse have been trashed months ago (split fabric, worn rubber under the heel). Granted, Converse leave a lot to be desired, but they're in the same price range. I'm in fact amazed how strong the Hey Dudes are. Now you may not agree with my description, but they look better than Crocs, the care is the same (washing machine when dirty), and they're, in my experience, as durable.
Because people are mindless, they can't think for themselves. And they will do anything to fit in with the herd. @@clintonleonard5187 with Google. There is always discount and sale somewhere. Even without it, I'd rather get Nike wearallday or any of their budget sneakers which are priced at about €60 retail. I wouldn't even take out trash with those "hey dudes". What s cringe name
That "shoe" is $60? I mean that's just insane.
Well, it's owned by Crocs, who sell $10 foam clogs for $50.
65 bucks
I would pay $30 the most for them , I think $60 is way too much
They likely coat under $10 to make

two Italian guys... they had dreams of selling to the Americans. hey dude.
Dude said “and they’re made in China” like it’s a good thing😂
I mean everything you own is made in china so???

The older pairs(2021-22) had insoles with cork in them. Some of the “premium” options had a cork topped insole which was quite nice.
They're basically sanuks...... and I remember I could get a 2 pairs of sanuks for $30 at my local skate shop back in like 2004.
this video is the first I've ever heard of "hey dudes"
and after seeing this video, I don't see myself ever getting any
These are mad regional. I have family in OK, that’s how I know about them. My cousins fw them. Anyways, here in NY I never saw a mf in them and they’d get flamed for it.
Never heard of them until my friend gave me their shoe box last week for us moving. I figured they were just Amazon trash shoes
Hmm turns out i was right 😅
Not Amazon, but still trash...
That's exactly what they are - cheap Chinese-made disposable crap.
Same chinese factories; different sellers & name brand, lol
They don’t really seem bad just a little expensive for what they are. What the hell do you guys consider ok shoes if these are trash
"the world".... Means America. I'm in the UK and don't know what they are. I do however know that my M&S slippers are built better and will last longer.
I have never seen an ad for Hey Dudes, yet I have 3 pairs of them. That's some seriously good marketing.
Crocs have probably taken more hate than any other major shoe company so fittingly that they bought this brand out and will make these into a major seller as well.
Fitting that they bought a brand of shoes that are also ugly AF
THIS EXACTLY! Good lordy these things are as hideous as Crocs.
I used to work at a store that sold these, you're definitely right about how to tie them!
I replace the insole with thinner insoles that have arch support. Huge difference. It gives more space too.
I used to work at a shoe store that sells Hey Dudes. Their insoles are garbage. They only last about 1-2 months
@timvibes What insoles do you use in them?

I got a pair of Clarks Wallabees going on 25 years, and another 15. If you like this moc toe style, consider them. Also some of my most comfortable shoes.
Might pick up a vintage pair next time.
Why would anyone pay $150 and up for what is essentially the same $59 shoe?

I actually briefly considered getting hold of a pair of Hey Dudes for my loafing needs. Didn't know that they had become this famous over the pond. Ultimately I decided not to get a pair since I have too many shoes already and need to wear through some pairs before I can tell myself that I need new shoes.

I got back into loafers recently and been wanting to buy a new pair, haven't had one since jr high...

I can kind of see what you mean by boat shoe but I dont know im not liking the way they look

First few weeks they were very comfortable, I have pretty much worn all the way through them now in less than 3 months.. obviously i wouldn't expect them to hold up forever but that's just too short.
Can't wear shoes with type of outsole if you're dragging your feet or walking on particularly abrasive surfaces. Chews right through 'em.
What do you expect for"cheap" shoes? Yeah, $60 isn't cheap, but the shoes definitely are.
@@inothome well, they did pretty much exactly as I expected.
They are for the olds. Unhip grandparent types
i had those shoes back in like 2015 before anybody else around had seen or heard about them. randomly found them on woot for like $30 and figured what the hell and gave them a try. everyone gave me so much shit for wearing them lol they were so comfy though, and easy to slip on and off. i wore them for years before they got too nasty and i had to ditch them. i remember when i started seeing them in stores in like 2019 and thought it was funny they were starting to catch on. im quite the trendsetter. or unfashionable cheapskate who enjoyed a deal at the cost of fashion.... either way, not bad shoes for casual wear.
These shoes are disgusting. They literally require negative taste to wear. Even crocs are better somehow.
So are these the new Tom’s? Lol
I have vans that look like that. I have like 12 pairs in different colors and materials. They don’t make them anymore and i still have some in boxes :)
I have the Vans also, wish I had more. Can't do the Hey Dudes or Crocs
No dude.
Those Walmart Aisle 13s are fire 🔥
there not even that fire tho. not the move
Just naff-looking re-branded Clarks Wallabees without the quality though, aren't they?
I see someone in crocs and I immediately think they just escaped from a mental institution
I'm actively wearing knock-off crocs from Rural King 💀
I bought a pair a couple of years ago. Horrible trash shoes. Not comfortable. Not stylish.
My sister managed a surf store for the Animal brand over a decade ago - she got me a pair on discount. I still wear them like slippers to this day. The upper just got very baggy with wear
A friend of a friend had some and u think the same now as I did first seeing them, horrendous looking things. Truly awful. My opinion anyways
These are house shoes
YES
I bet my 45 year old Tom MCAan Chuka Boots give it a Run for its Money Hey Dude
There's always a pair on sale for under $40 and as crazy comfortable as they are I think it's plenty worth it. And the huge slope breaks in for me so I don't notice it. The only negative to me is they wear pretty quickly on the pavement.
I bought the Reef version of these.. tend to not wear them because of the associated crowd.
It’s a cheap rip off of the French made Paraboot’s Michael shoes

Would love to see him do the Nike Foamposites, also known as the Pennys. That shoe is indestructible.
Sneaker Chop did them.
Foams are not comfortable though,I had 2 different pairs and resold them within a few months,
Cool, these are literally $20 shoes sold for $60+. Awesome.
I don't consider $60 "ridiculously cheap"
It's not. Bring back $30-40 shoes
Have you looked at the prices of shoes lately? Or everything lately?
Stop being poor.

God these are disgusting. The name might be worse than the actual shoe.
They look horrendous. I don't get it at all
I've never seen this shoe in my life until I visited my bf's family at their cabin and they ALL owned a pair. Glad I got this video shortly after so I understand the hype
That's a huge sign to RUN! lol
Ugliest shoe I've ever seen, gives me a visceral reaction whenever I see them.
He’s done it with boots before. Pretty sure he has one on the Red Wing Womens Heritage
People will hate on these but walk around in their freakish cyborg looking yeezys, crocs and dino stompers
Are these comfortable? Because yeezys are amazingly comfortable
Got a pair from Amazon for $35 about 6 months ago. Comfortable and easy to slip on if just around the house and outdoors or a quick errand. Haven’t seen them much in LA but there is a proliferation of ugly crocs.

There's no way I'm wearing those.

Crocs are more comfortable because of the arch support. And $60.00 is too much for what they are.... slippers.

Because people are mindless, they can't think for themselves. And they will do anything to fit in with the herd. Therefore, when these shoes are all over social media, people get them because they want to be accepted. Even though people think that the things they do make them different. There is actually very few people who are unique... Most people just copy other things that they saw
