We wanted to have some fun with this video, so we went to Rack Room Shoes and purchased this pair of men's Hey Dude shoes. We disassembled parts of these shoes and built them back up with a touch of flair and ruggedness. Now that we can check Hey Dude off of our list, what should we do next??

We just wanted to have some fun this week. We may do more of these “can it be done” videos. What do y’all think?
Do you think something similar could be done with Whites Boots Millwood line? I am disappointed with the longevity of the Vibram crepe soles, but I am satisfied with their comfort.
I love the can it be done video! Actually I think you could probably do these weird shoes like this and resell them or do a giveaway to see how they hold up in use.
Birkenstock re-soles would be interesting. The soles wear through but the footbeds and uppers are still perfect.
Would be cool if for fun videos you guys did a pair of die hards or caterpillar works, just a thought.
I say go for it! Challenging yourself is always good, not to mention great for us to watch!
Those shoes are actually really comfortable, they are mostly made from recycled materials but you can also send then back when they are used and they will recycle them and give you 20% of your next pair,
Ive never in my wildest dreams think id be interested in the making of shoes but ive been watching these guys for a year and they have earned my subscription. Well done boys you are craftsmen!
Thank you sir.
@@TrentonHeath I have a pair of sperries like these that my wife tattooed for me years ago the sole disintegrated over time of me wearing them. She can no longer tattoo she broke her lower back in a car wreck and can’t sit longer then 20 to 30 minutes at a time. I was wondering if you could resole them like this.
@@Justthemow oof
@@fordguyjames I don’t understand oof
@@Justthemow i ment your wife
I want to know the before and after weight of the shoe. One thing I love about hey dudes is how light they are. I think the vibram sole would add too much weight for my liking.
A couple decades ago my mother would buy tennis shoes then have to have the sole of one shoe built up, a lot, so she could walk straight. She had scoliosis so seeing this brought back some memories.
I love HEY DUDE shoes, I own around 4-5 pairs at a time! This remodel is by far the coolest and best upgrade ever! Thanks for thinking outside the box!
I have 4 pair of Hey Dude shoes. Other than my cowboy boots, these are the most comfortable shoes I own. Cushioned insoles can be replaced. They can be washed. They are awesome. Don't knock them until you've tried them.
I used to wear the 70's crepe soul dessert boots from Kenny's Shoe store until you could no longer find them. Most comfortable shoe I ever wore and great for roofing on sheet iron. They really stuck. My son bought me a pair of Hey dudes in that same shoe. Very comfortable but not a everyday shoe by any means.
As someone who has great pain when I walk due to arthritis and nerve damage - Hey Dude shoes are invaluable - I discovered them a couple of years ago and have owned several pairs. The big - and I mean BIG downfall about them is that even slightly damp shiny surfaces + Hey Dude shoes = Major fall. Your resolves look like that would not be even the remotest problem. I would love to have a pair like these. Great job boys (from the UK)
It’s strange you say that because I wear mine even in the rain (not intentionally) and my yard turns into an absolute swamp when it rains. I trek through the yard and to work and I’ve never slipped once. I have however taken dives in my crocs many times lol
I absolutely love my Hey dude shoes. Most Comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. I do like how you guys made them different and put some meat on them! I’d be curious how comfortable and light they are! Awesome vid guys
I could see someone eventually stepping right out of these as they fell apart because the weakness of the shoes couldn't compete with the strength of the vibram soles.
Actually these shoes hold up a long time and are very comfortable. I have several pair with the oldest pair being 3 years old. They have a simple construction but are constructed well.
I've owned numerous pairs of these shoes. They are popular where I live as well. Light, comfortable and I love em!
They're popular everywhere.
They are a bit gay..
They look like they are good for 3 months wear and into the trashcan.
@@dmac7403 I wouldn't say everywhere, I have never seen them where I live.
@@MrTarfu Where's that another country ? they're everywhere in the u.s.
Many years ago, I once had a pair of desert boot type shoes. They were very nice and comfortable, soft with a smooth leather outer. I really loved those shoes! But I wore the sole out on them and thought I'd have to throw them out. Then one day, I came across a little shoe repair shop and asked if they could be resoled using a heavy duty Vibram sole. He said yes, but when I got tjem back, I was so disappointed! I hadn't considered that the design of the upper was unsuitable for the very heavy Vibrams that I had requested. The shoes were not confortable, and the lacing system of desert boots never provided the type of support for the weight of the sole. I really could not wear them and ended up throwing them out afterall.
Once again, you two amaze me with your skills and presentation. I never thought I'd see something like this done.
Yes, I'd buy and wear a pair of these. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Most be very comfy! Melikey! Awesome job!!!😃👍
Nice upgrade. As a fun diy whim a while back i also did this to my Native Miles eva shoes when its eva sole wore out. I peeled off the tread of a used car tire and used it as the new outsole. I've used it for years when walking my dog and i just repair it when it starts to delaminate in places, usually the front. Good day and God bless. Cheers!
i like the ones you did compaired to what they looked like before. ps, i'm a leather crafter if you stop your razor cutter it makes it sharper and the blade lasts longer
Not only do I not own a pair of these myself, I don't recall ever seeing them before (when I go to Rack Room, which I do occasionally, it's for sneakers; thus, I may have never seen them. But I'll certainly look for them next time I'm there). I do understand and appreciate that you guys try things that no other shoemakers I know of would try. But that's one of the things I love about your videos: pushing the limits of what's possible in shoe repairing.
I have three pairs of these, they’re soooo comfy, like wearing slippers outside!
That’s exactly how I describe them..
Would be cool to see some air Jordan 1’s from the 80’s repaired
Loved the blue wedge! And the chunky Vibrams are ridiculous! 😂 It's awesome! Well done, guys! 😊
I’m a proud owner of 2 pairs of your sandals from your former storefront in Brentwood TN. Though I prefer Allbirds shoes, I was gifted a pair of Hey Dude slip ons recently. I’d definitely buy a pair done YOUR way. 👍. Thanks for sharing your fascinating restorations with 🥾 lovers everywhere.
They look so much better now & totally worth 50$ after Heath & Trentons treatment
I would absolutely want a pair of those custom hey dudes
I'm Canadian and I always find it funny when Americans especially from the south say C-Ment
Love these remakes...I would buy these!!!
The hey dude’s y’all upgraded actually look better. I like the blue wedge.
I would no joke wear these lol
Now THAT is a pair of hey dudes I'd be proud to wear!
Slapped some Vibrams on some Hey, Dudes. I'm dying!!!!!
Osha gotta love you pulling a razor towards you
Keep that elbow tucked in and your other hand out of the way, and you’ll be just fine. Gotta know what you’re doing. 😉👍
The only "Hey Dude" I know was a show on Nickelodeon back in the day. 😂
Ya def like the addition of this type of video
I have an entesophyte (bone spur) on my right heel and wear Hey Dudes every day. Comfort and non slip. They’re my summer shoe.
Sanuk makes a shoe very similar to this. The problem is that the fabric uppers wear out before before the soles. Especially where the upper meets the sole at the flex points.
Those, I would absolutely purchase.
Have quite a few pairs of Hey Dudes. Super comfortable summer time shoes
I live in SC, and I've never heard of them. I wouldn't buy them as-is, but I would with y'all's additions. That Vibram sole would probably help them last a lot longer.
Here I was thinking my Hey Dudes were disposable.🤣 They are super comfortable quick slip on shoes. Those vibrams do take the to another level. Yes I would buy the more substantial version. They are the 2022 version of the boat shoes I used to were all summer with shorts.
I’m a little West of Nashville. I have hey dudes on the way and plan on adding a leather top piece. If I can figure out my go pro I’ll video and post it. Only got them because of a discount, have been hesitant because the sole doesn’t look like it would last long. I might have to try a sole upgrade 😊
Would love to see you guys try this with their new boots (Bradley Boot Leather)
I'd buy a pair of Dude's with Vibram soles. Pretty cool!
I now need a Vibram Croc
I second that request 😂🤣
I like the updated version better 🤓😄❤️
You guys should buy a pair of Vessi's and make them as extravagant as possible, just for fun!
Nice job and a fun thought. The black Vibram sole didn't do it for me though.
Those look really good. Yes I would buy them.
These are the ultimate dad shoes.
What's next when you get bored - Topsiders with JR Leather for dock side cocktail parties? Neat job, enjoyable video - thanks!
I wear HeyDudes on my lazy days. Don’t have to worry about shoe trees and getting them scuffed/dirty. I would love to have a pair like that. The tread wears off rather fast.
I’m a fan of hey dudes… comfy for walking around in Florida heat!
You guys hooked these dudes up with some off road tires! I love it!! I love your guys videos, keep up the awesome work. Also hello from Cincy Ohio!
It’s the new Hey Dude Hiking! now with Vibram outsoles for durability and slip resistance lol!
Well dang!!! :) Nice "exercise" there ... of what can be done; can't knock it one bit. If you were just out walkin' around, then yeah, they seem applicable and comfortable. I'm a work boots fella, I like the support and comfort with a steady footbed. I do have cheap foam tennies for the down time; not a fan of them but they fit the purpose. Be Safe
Y’all should do a pair of Jordans with a leather sole!
"Wally" is the model, "linen iron" is the color I believe.
Just a thought… I think maybe the “iron” in the details referred to the color (fabric). It looked grey in the shop light but, I’m never sure if I’m seeing the color accurately on these videos. In other light, it looked tan.
I need to see you guys do a pair of vans. Mine always have the soles separate and die long before the uppers, and I'd like to keep my shoes in service way longer. I'll send you my set that are basically perfect except the soles and I'll pay for whatever you do. I just don't want to go out and buy the same pair again
I would like to see a line of blue all the way through. Much more sophisticated looking.
Thanks gentlemen for todays video. They are very popular where I live. Not my style of shoes. Have a great weekend. Thank you.
I love this. I wear Sanucks and would love to have this done to them!
went from "hey dude" to "goodmorning sir"
Thursday Captains are my every day boot but Hey Dudes are my weekend shoe
I'm doing the same with a pair of crocs that the sole has lost all its tread and is very slippery on wet surfaces. I got some thin rubber soles off and Brag glue off amazon. I will be doing the resole today.
You know, crocs have not gotten and less expensive, at $60 a pair now, a $20 investment into new sole; might I say much better material type soles, my crocs will be around for quite some time now.
How about a side line business, "Save My Crocs". My crocs are the most comfortable shoes I own, so I'm going to save the feeling.
Crocs cost $60?!? I thought they were awful when I assumed they were like $20. (Edit: A little research shows they are around $35.)
I got a pair of those shoes for Christmas last year. They are uncomfortable. I tried to wear them but they are not good. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on the Southern Living magazine, y’all! This was a fun build!
I am a Hey Dude sporter. Thee most comfortable shoe out there. And I’d wear them with the vibrant soles also
I would beg to differ, lol. I'm a huge fan of any Nikes with React in them. If you think these Hey Dudes are comfy then try some Nike React Infinity Flyknits, or Nike Pegasus Zoom Turbos they are hands down the most comfortable shoe you will ever wear, better then Adidas Ultraboosts. Although you will pay $130-$160 for the Nikes.
Different and interesting, nice change from the usual focus. Congratulations for appearing in Southern Living 👏🏼
Where I live these shoes are most associated with jorts, tank tops and the pungent smell of weed. This is observation is based on a reasonable sample size. Great video as always
Kinda cool. I like seeing how things work -just for curiosity's sake. Well done. I appreciate your analysis "should it be done?" ;-)
I have a pair. after wearing them for a day my feet are sore from no support.
I wear them on my boat and they are very comfortable. Congratulations, you took a shoe that feel like a sock into a sock that feels like a shoe. 🤣
Haha…this video was all about just having fun and being entertaining.
We use these for Beach ⛱ shoes here in Florida
This was an awesome project! Thank you for the upload.
Conversation I just had:
Me: Going to bed, see y’all tomorrow.
Wife: You watching the shoe guys again late aren’t you?
Me: No! I have work tomorrow!
Me: Ohhhh Dude shoe video! Nice!
If those soles were that blue Colour!then those shoes would have been POW 💥
Lol the 4X4 version of Hey Dudes
Hey Dude, don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh, wait a minute, that’s hey Jude, not hey Dude.
😁😁 Now THAT was creative!
i wear hey dudes i want mine done like that its freaking cool
Wally linen is the model of shoe iron is the color
I really like it they made a shoe with your help definitely yes
I was looking for something like this for the drive to the ski resort and bumming around the lodge. I ended up buying vans with their mtx sole.
Y’all should resole a pair of walking shoes like those hey dudes, but actually a good shoe. Like the Alden walking shoe.
These shoes are almost identical to " Kyaks “ that were around in the late 80's 👍
I got two pairs, wear them all the time
They are constructed poorly but they are super comfortable… people would definitely wear these
I would buy your version .
Most entertaining video you guys have made in a while. Hilarious!
I would buy your version. I like the added foam for a little lift and comfort.
All Terrain Hey Dudes!!!! Frikkin awesome. Surely the tops will rip off before any significant wear shows on the sole... 😜 👍
so now that vibram outsole's gonna last twice as long as the upper😄
but I love the way they look after the upgrade
I have issues with my feet so they are comfortable especially the ones with cork insoles
I would love to have my Hey Dudes resolved like this. Are you planning on taking orders for these?
That was a really cool transformation, I liked it a lot.
This was pretty neat to watch. What do y'all do with the project shoes typically?
Ha, lemme guess, just the Vibrams alone cost more than the whole pair new?
Basically, very comfortable "day off" shoes for being around the house and a quick drive down to the drugstore or post office.
I'd wear these in a heartbeat.
Just heard about them last week form my brother in kc, they look great after your work oh there my size
How do the new dudes feel on your foot? They've got to feel different with that thick vibram tread and new foam.
I don't know that I would buy any but they look comfortable. The question for me would be how long would they actually last? If you can only get one summer out of them and have to pitch them I think I would try to find something that had a little bit more longevity even if the price went up.
I'm not a Hey Dude kinda guy, but you guys made a interesting pair of shoes. I love the choice of materials you used.
