    Sorry we didn’t have any BEFORE pics y’all. We had already started taking them apart before we realized it. Oh…and that the velcro is like that intentionally. Us sub-150 bowlers have always used the cheap rentals without it. 😉😁

      I think you did a great job on the soles and still with the leather soles he could still bowl in them if he wants to you guys always make a pair of shoes or boots look better and sometimes even look brand new.... I really enjoy your videos it always brings me back to my youth in the 1960's there was a cobbler in the town where I grew up, and I sometimes came into his little store and watched him work....

    THOSE ARE MY SHOES AND I LOVE THEM. I love the layered look of the midsole and sole (that white midsole is amazing: Is it sold like that or did you glue a white piece to a leather piece?), and the honey-colored heel was the perfect way to cap them off. When you were asking if you should dye the soles or keep them natural, I was yelling at the screen to leave them. The roughed-up welt to match the suede was a stroke of genius. I told you to make them fun and gave you free rein to do whatever you needed to do and you knocked it out of the park. I'm not just happy with them: I'm ecstatic. They're more then I could have hoped for.

    • @joeyhemlock
      @joeyhemlock 2 года назад +34

      BTW: The shoes came that way with the velcro. They had three or four different pads for each section so you could customize how much slide you wanted. It didn't matter which ones I used as I was a terrible bowler with any combination. Then the traction (right) shoe of course doesn't have any slide to it. When I took them out and looked at them as a potential project for you, I spent a LOT of time watching videos on how to tell if boots were actually goodyear welted or faked and everything pointed to them being genuine, and I'm glad it turned out that way. They'll get a lot more use now then they ever did on the alleys. THANKS SO MUCH for doing such a great job. I can't wait to get them back and show them off.

    • @TrentonHeath
      @TrentonHeath  2 года назад +36

      Thanks so much! We’re glad to hear you like them! The white midsole is a piece of rubber that we used. Hope you enjoy wearing them again. You’ll need to send us an updated pic as you begin wearing them so that we can possibly post it.

    I've had my old Red Wings resoled numerous times. I worked in a quarry & stone fabrication plant for 14 years, so the soles got chewed up quickly. My knees gave out and had to find another profession, but I still have those old Red Wings almost 20 years later. :) Our area cobbler Charlie has long since retired, but he sure had a love for the craft. Your channel popped up on my side bar a couple days ago, and I find myself binge watching your episodes. The passion you guys have for the craft reminds me of Charlie my cobbler. Great videos and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

    I have a pair of Hyde bowling shoes from 1950 that I found basically new old stock for $40. They are a terrific off white leather and if they weren't bowling shoes I would wear them as everyday shoes. If I had a second pair I would definitely have them resoled for street wear. It's crazy to me that bowling shoes aren't made of this quality and style anymore.

    Wow, great job on the shoes! Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski would *love* them! I like how the layered look of the midsole/sole/heel kind of resembles the various shades of brown one would see in the wood of an average bowling lane, with the planks of various brown tones. Not sure if that was on purpose or a happy accident, but either way, it's great. Very appropriate... and, like you said, fun!

    That's how bowling shoes are made for a right handed bowler. The Velcro pads allow for the left shoe pad to be replaced. The left shoe is designed to slide. Once that pad gets dirty or wet it can be replaced so it will once again slide. The right shoe is designed for traction so it doesn't slide. Hope this helps.
    I've actually been thinking of doing the opposite.. I want to convert a pair of Strands into bowling shoes.

      Funny thing there ..... the replaceable pad on the slide shoe. When I was a teen and started bowling on my parents' bowling team, mom got me my own shoes and kit to care for the soles which included a suede brush (much like the suede brush I had for the suede soles on my western dance boots) When the suede sole got slick, the brush (much like a "slicker" brush used to brush long haired cats and dogs) did a wonderful job to roughen up and clean the sole again.

    • @choyfalcon
      @choyfalcon 2 года назад

      Not to mention they have 4 or 5 different slide styles that have more or less resistance to sliding in case you're sliding too far or stopping too fast you can switch out the slide resistance to adjust for that. The other shoe with a regular sole is the "power step" shoe. It's designed to intentionally not slide so you can push off of it.

    left/right difference is very common in bowler shoes, 1 foot is usually for sliding. (the replacement felt is for different surface on the bowling floor, dry vs oily) They are very differnt from the sneaker style type bowler shoes (China made). Goodyear welted shoes usually American made, small shop grand father machine rarely breaks down, very little maintience. It quite sad we losing the culture because of labors & materials are not as good/competitive as what Nikes factory come out. I still owned a pair of Linds bought in the late 90s. These are definitely your liberty/casual Friday shoes that go well with khankis/jeans.
