In this video I have some advice on buying a pure powder snowboard. Pure powder snowboards can be a hard decision to buy because of how unique a role they may play in your snowboarding. Over the past few years I've had the opportunity to try some different powder snowboards and want to share what I think make the best powder snowboard. Also tell you about some of the benefits a pure powder snowboard can deliver. If you still have any questions about powder snowboards please leave them in the comments below. Thanks for watching! You don’t need a powder board... but boy are they fun to ride.
So damn True... riding pow is fun, but a pow board gets it next level fun!
Hey Kevin. I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years now and I can finally say I’m going snowboarding this season. Just wanted to thank you for making everything so clear and I’ll keep watching your videos
Of course you do.
Riding pow on a true pow board is like surfing
Just get one
did my first two days learning snowboarding the other day and all your videos really helped! so much fun im hooked
Just bought the Yes 20/20, really looking forward to testing it in the deep pow!
Same I’m going snowboarding tmr so excited for the powder
I CANT WAIT TO BOARD THIS WINTER! SNOWBOARD VLOGS
Flow Darwin 162 with a 275mm waist in 4 feet of dry teton powder was a need. It really depends on what you ride but a powder board can float you further to the edges when the other boards sink into the fall line early.
A tapered tail also makes a huge difference when it comes to float. I've found that it makes a huge difference when paired with the fat nose widths of volume shifted boards.
Can u do a video on how to adjust technique for basic skills ollie, 180 etc when on a pow/small tailed board. There's nothing online on this topic which is surprising considering how popular the boards are getting.
Question for you.. I was finally able to use my new TRS this past weekend but felt like my stance was too wide. Made some adjustments when I came home. I also ended up setting the stance back about one inch. The TRS is a twin tho, so I'm not sure if I should have. I'm still learning, so I'm not riding switch at all right now.
AYE!!! So hyped for the season!! #winterdreaming
Can you please do a video for a tutorial for jumping stairs on a snow board
For a swallow tail pow board would you go with a longer or shorter board than usual? In your videos your pow board seems very short
Always love watching you ride I went straight twice for the first time this trip and the pow was thick I was rocking the riptide what do you think about that for pow?
thanks for all your vids! Any chance you would review the never summer swift?? Heard it's great in pow, but also groomers and getting to and from the deep stuff...
Thank you for your reveiw
would you consider a bataleon magic carpet or a rossignol angus to be "good enough" for powder as a one board man (yeah i'm poor) that like powder and park
What about deep Thinker in Pow? Would you recommend?
Yooo!! I'm so hyped for this season!!! I'd like to get a pow board but it can get pricey
Andrew Coaker It's so much worth it, those short n fat boards are so fun to Ride! You can get a pow board that's versatile like the Ride Warpig, k2 Party platter or capita slush slasher...you'll have the benefits of a pow board while being able to use it more often than just for extreme pow days...
Buy a spring break slush slasher. Worth it.
@@crookedcorey I saw TJ's review. It looks sick
Andrew Coaker K2 cool bean looks great and is cheap at around 400$
Antoine Grant of fr? I was just gonna say, ik the warpig is an all mtn board but how is it for specially powder
Whats about the lenght on a powder board? I´am 189cm big, what a powder board lenght is the best for me? Which do you use? Best regards from Berlin, Germany!!
I am late but I have been riding a looooong time and have just pulled the trigger on my first POW specific SB. Bataleon Love Pow. I don’t know what to do with this thing. Set up?
Heading Niseko this Jan. 💪
Current im on Head Architect Hybrid camber with rocker nose and tail. By default is 1cm setback, but the holes are so few that i cant really shift far back to the tail.
Will definitely consider to demo a POW board to try 😊
Gentemstick and Moss are located there. Gentemstick's flagship showroom is very close to the mountain. See if you can lineup a demo.
What type of pow board do you recommend for cliff jumps?
YES, the answer is always yes!!
Regular or winged highbacks?
What all mountain board did you have that was your favorite
Good vid! I'm looking to buy a bataleon magic carpet for this winter to let me ride it all. Do you reckon that board's enough to let me enjoy the powder days fully?
yes is a powder twin
Kev, please could you review the DaKine Wyeast bib pants you wore all last season?
Hey Kevin.
I am 5,10 and 225lbs. any pow board come to mind for a guy my size?
Check out the marhar lumberjack. A true twin powder log jib board that kills the groomers park n pow. I own one and it’s a blast 🤙🏽
Nice vid Kevin. What about if you don’t ride trees but still want a POW board ?
What about endurance? I noticed yours has a cracked tail already in a previous video
Do a vid of you riding the skateboard/snowboard thing in 4:05
Waiting for snow at mount hood to try the rossignol sushi with the cartels 🤙🏼. Recommendation from TJ and angry snowboarder ha. Pray for snow. 🙏
Yeah I am so glad that I am not the only one who watches @snowboardprocamp and snowboards on mt hood
__ Creenberg__ we need to start a local support group ha.
Waiting for timberline to open!!
Yo T-Line is my home mountain also. Kinda sucks last year at this time I was already up shredding Palmer. #PrayforSnow
@@andrewcoaker4897 The weather says snow in govy next weekend thur, fri, sat. Could be good news!
I hope I meet you guys one day in BC
I have a Burton free thinker but it just doesn't freeride how I want it to. The 57w isn't wide enough for my fat feet. And I don't ride switch besides buttering, switching to a slush slasher 2019. Fingers crossed
Hey, I'm trying to decide on a new powder board, and I'm between the Never Summer Swift and the Burton Deep Thinker. Any input? I already have an all mountain board so I'm leaning towards the Swift since it's more of a pure powder board than the Deep Thinker, but the burton one has great reviews online. Let me know your thoughts!
well you are right no your thoughts, the swift is a dedicated pow board also extremely damped...... the thinker is a really good all mountain...... so there you go
how would you compare your YES 420 vs the Nitro ??
the nitro pow is more tapered, and has a swallow tail- so ultimately it will float better. The 420 is slightly stiffer and has a slight amount more tail, giving it a little more to work with when hitting side hits.
Good info, I’m actually heading to Japan on January for the first time. I’m going with a complete different profile , will go with the Jones Mind Expander..... si flat rocker and tail. I have tried snowboard with swallow tails and i just prefer my boards to have a more traditional tail, also flat to rocker I find fun, yes they don’t have the snap but they still do the job. So is all preferences and styles of riding. I do feel at some point I want more of a freeride board and then I will go for a directional camber 🤟🏼
I need a pure powder board...and powder! Mostly powder. Then the board in that order.
just wondering for a board with a swallow tail, should it be shorter or longer than the length of the board you usually use? please and thanks
Shorter, but you might find the effective edge is the same length.
Living on 'll ny....ice coast I can only pray for pow....
Where was this footage shot? Hakuba?
Ha I live in nz so no upcoming season for a while still great vids 👍
The real question is do you need a park board? I certainly dont. Ive got a Burton Skeleton Key and a Nitro Treehugger to tackle anything I personally would ever want to do on the mountain without any compromises.
Wild Outdoor Living Hi ! The Burton Skeleton Key shape looks great ! Can you tell me more about this board. Where it performs the most ? The Treehugger is shorter than the Nitro Pow. Is it not too similar to the Skeleton ?
Definitely not too similar. My Skeleton Key is a 158 and my Treehugger of course is a 149. The Skeleton Key is a lot more stable, punches through crud harder, it's smoother on Jumps and riding switch is actually pretty normal. It is so smooth, damp and fast. Floats pow super well and carves like a boss. Maybe my favorite ever board, definitely top three.
The Treehugger is a rediculously good time. Every ride leaves me laughing. It turns super quick, just like Kevin said about the pow but more so. It's for those untracked low angle deep light pow days that hopefully include some nice tight treelines. Itll get through deep heavy tracked pow better than most due to it's big nose and stiff flex but it wont rip through those conditions like a Deep Thinker or Skeleton Key, it just doesnt have the length. Same goes for jumps, you can do it but the tail is just too short to really excel at them like other boards. Because it turns so fast it's also a great board for riding with my kids, still great fun at slow speeds.
@@alex003paris6 See above reply for more info. The Skeleton Key is an amazing board. Im in love with mine. A lot of the same attributes as the Deep Thinker Kevin has but a bit softer, wider, and set back further. It excels in pow from fresd to chopped, steep to low angle. It's super smooth riding and it is really fast. The second stand out place is carving groomers, it can carve like there's no tomorrow. Great board in the trees as well. Basically the only board I actually need. The rest are just for fun.
Wild Outdoor Living Does it perform also in icy conditions ? Have you ever tried the Lib Tech T Rice Pro ?
@@alex003paris6 Haven't been on the T Rice yet. The SK has true camber so that definitely helps with ice. I haven't had to ride it on straight icy groomers yet but I have ridden it on very hard groomers and on pow with icy chunder underneath and didn't have any problems, it was better there than my Process Flying V I used to have. We will see how it does on straight ice in the future though.
Do I need one NO, Do I want one Yes
Granted my Blunt wide 159 gets the job done any where but the change in the geometry and the feel that that transfer into would be worth it
What if, I set back my bindings?
An amazing pow board is the K2 coolbean
Agreed!
I really want one, there are many options but the key question for me is the tail... sacrifice the tail or no 😫
Jones Storm Chaser
Nuff said
Opening day tomorrow! #hype
I got a Jones Mind Expander as my powder board this year. Has a shovel nose and a 17.5 mm taper, but it is not volume shifted. Would you recommend that I set my bindings all the way back on the insert pack? or set them in the middle?
I'm also grabbing a mind expanded this year. Ride it at recommended stance (middle) - no need to set back. Its already directional enough in its over all shape.
I own it, rode it all last year, the nose is huge. Set bindings in the middle. It loves the trees and the pow. You can put your weight in the middle on a 30cm day and the nose just wants to float. Lands switch pretty well and pretty good on a groomer, also loves the spring slush. Hands down my go to board for most days except the icy ones
Great vid and cool board if you want a directional ride. However it's not the right thing if you want to ride switch in powder. Maybe you could do this video next: Best switch riding boards for powder ;)
Bataleon party wave twin.
Was the footage from Japan?
I have a Capita DOA for park and a Capita Mercury for the POW. 2 boards is definitely the way to go. Happy shredding guys!
Have you ever been to Canada Olympic park
If you can afford running a quiver, the answer will always be YES.
Want!!!
You need speed, a setback stance and knowledge of the hill. Imao pow boards do better laying out euro carves than pow! How often do you see 3ft of pow at a resort to justify an over 26cm waist board?! Lol! great vid kevin!
b wooten there more so for backcountry or hikes out of bounds at resorts
What should I get for my first board
An all mountain board is best to learn on, it should go up to your chin normally or lip depending on how long you will use it, if you want a bored that easy to learn on get a rocker dominate board (it is also good in the parks) if you want one that is more difficult to learn get a camber dominant camber dominant will help you make quick sharp turns and a rocker dominant will not catch an edge as much
@@mac9070 thank you that really makes it easy
Board size should be based more on your weight. Check out the manufacturer's website for specifics. There are many boards to choose from for your first one. Best to talk with your local snowboard shop, and get solid advice, rather than buy the wrong one online.
The kuroa "tugboat" is prolly the most pow dedicated board in terms of weight. It literally has abs for edges...no metal! Just wanted to throw that out
Are you taking this board to its true home this winter?? 🇯🇵🗻
I have a question, do you think someone who is 5”4 could ride a 136 snowboard
weight matters a lot too
would a pure pow board be good for everything? or just pow
mostly pow
I suppose you are joking?
@@oskargarden4559 no I'm not joking, no way a pow board can ONLY be used for pow, it's gotta have more no?
drew boudrieau , actually a POW board is pretty useless outside of pow. Much softer, no need for sharp edges. It’s made to uplift you from pow. You will have more fun with a normal all mountain or park board in pow than with a pow board on a regular slope.
@@oskargarden4559 so a better option would probably be a park board? How is it in pow though? And icy terrain
I think you should name section where you tell about gear : "gear we go!"
I got the burton deep thinker, so I don't think I need powder board XD
K2 eighty seven is fire
Congratulations on getting married!
Just need a straw for pure powder, Ok i leave ^^
Hundred dollar bill brotha
no fakie landings possible -> is a no go
czeckson74 have you seen the cab 7 from one of the rusty toothbrush guys on the bataleon surfer?
your comment is invalid
Depends. Are you rich?
hi
Does anyone else just scream with excitement sometimes while riding down the mountain on a powder day?
she doesn't :)
Oskar Garden lol

You prefer that fish tail because you don't ride aggressive and your technique is quite mediocre. Blauvelts Berzerker and alike over everything
