another reason I love the step ons - not just the time to strap in but the effort from standing up or leaning forward, gloves off and on, etc. saves energy (for us older riders) that we can put towards going down the hill.

The Belly Issue is easy to deal with. Just stop eating Starch & Sugar in your meals & snacks. I lost 50 lbs, that was 25% of my weight by eating right and buying a Bike to ride in the Summer. I’m going to be 66 this Winter so knocking off weight is easy if you really want to do it,
Literally, I demoed some in telluride and and I was actually able to keep up with the skiers right off the chair lift instead of them watching you sit down and strap in for 45 seconds, then fall when you rush trying to get up😂
I gotta say, I love the step ons. I was a total beginner this season (yes I got obsessed with snowboarding and bought all of my equipment + step ons and a board in 1 go ha) and was hittin jumps and grinds by the end of season simply because I was getting more runs in than any of my friends ha.
Lol didn't realize my experiences were really were up for debate ... But sure lmao 😂 I was just sharing what I went through no need for the negativity my guys. Lol my friends and I are avid down hill longboarders and we skateboard too. So my progression was quick but I just had the means to get the step ons and while my buddies were fumbling around with bindings I was getting a feel for my board faster.
You do a great job of blending personal appeal, friendships, learning, product review vs. just sticking to a particular thing. Keep up the great blend of programming. Bringing your family, friends, and employees into it makes it very interesting, entertaining and relatable. Thanks for all the great work!
Yo, great video man, I'm mostly with skiers here so that's why I bought the step-ons and they are awesome. To get out easier, twist your heel inwards towards the centre of the board, this will also stop the wear on the toe hooks, and rub a little board wax on the cleats and hooks to stop the clicking, it drove me mad for the longest time.
This year I upgraded my whole set up from a 20 year old 164cm RIDE timeless (great board) with 20 year old boots that were beat up and slightly too big to a 162w Burton Custom, Swath boots and the Step-On bindings. It feels like a whole new experience riding with such responsive turning, and connectivity to the board. A nice aspect to these is when getting off the lift, you don't have to stop to step-in. It's a big expense, but is so worth it and I can't praise these enough!
I have had the step ons for three seasons now, and I wouldn’t go back to straps. Once you get used to them, you can even get off the chairlift and step on without stopping. Btw, if you twist your heal to the inside you get out of them with no problem.
It’s crazy these are now becoming big, when I was snowboarding in 2002 or so, the rental boards were all step ons and they were considered inferior but we were killing it down the mountains
OK - couple of corrections. Burton are not the only company that make boots for the Burton Step On bindings.DC also make boots that fit. You can take the rear cleat off your boots and use them in regular strap bindings (if you still have a set of strap bindings). Glad you like the responsiveness. Make sure your foot bed is extended to the correct boot size and adjust your forward lean. That might stop any clicking. Note also that system auto tightens - the rear cleat has two positions - you are locked in on position #1, then on your 1st heel turn or an ollie it will click into position #2. To get out, lift your heel and twist the front of the foot outward. As for cost, a set of union or malavita bindings and photon regular boots cost the same of the step Ons with Photons.
nearlly 100% correct. but the part with the rear cleat is not totally right. if you have an ion or photon it isnt possible because of your boa strap on the boot ;)
Ill tell you what I thought about my stepon experience. Paid full price for the bindings on the Burton website. Never got them. Took me literally weeks to get contact of any kind from customer support until I sat in a queue for 30 minutes all so they could tell me "oh so when you placed your order, the website wasn't up to date and they weren't actually in stock.. but they will be instock in afew weeks." So i kept my order active. Fast forward a week and I get an email saying that Burton canceled my order without my permission and still to this day haven't been refunded. They did ya boy real dirty and I was so excited to use these this season. Rip Rip Rip
I’ve just started snowboarding and have went four times. The first time I went I hit the biggest jump in the park (not knowing that it was the biggest jump) and I fell flat, hit my head, and had a headache for the rest of the day. Yet I still want to do it for a living :)
I just got step-ons for Christmas and the hardest parts to get used to is the clicking and getting out of it, you have to lean forward while you click the heel out and twist your toe and it will come right out. When you get used to it they are the best things I’ve purchased
did they hold up well in the park? that’s the only thing that’s keeping me from picking up a pair, i’m really into the park but scared they’re gonna pop out on me on rails and jumps
@@z2171 I think I could vouch for everybody that went for and bought the Step Ons, that they were probably a little hesitant about going to buy them. But I would say 99% percent of the people who got them were surprised how well they worked. I bet you have probably heard this in all the review videos you have watched about them, but the clicking sound when you are carving is weird to get used to but they are perfectly sturdy. In the park they are also really good, my friend goes all out on rails and doing tame dogs and he gets destroyed but the Steps Ons are just as good than when he got them. Hope this helps, Overall they are good in the park and don’t over think it👍🏻(best snowboard purchase I’ve made)
I snagged them this past December. As you said the only con I had was getting out. After riding this whole season on them I figured out that a twist motion was the easiest way to get out. Now its not problem at all! Getting better at stepping in while moving, and it is very satisfying!
@@momof2dc yes. Search for burton step on modification. You'll find several videos showing how to basically disassemble each side and swap parts over. It was a game changer for me. I started enjoying the bindings much more after doing that. Way easier with my stance to reach the inside of the foot than the outside.
as an almost 60 yr old boarder with serious knee injury issues i retired 4 years ago as 2 days in i couldnt get my bindings fastened (youll understand 1 day guys) then i discovered step ons ,needless to say im back with a vengeance ive even adapted the release catch with tie wraps so i dont need to bend down to get out of them 🤗🤗 theyre absolutely brilliant
Been riding Step Ons since they came out. Love them. One thing to watch out for is a hot spot right behind the baby toe if your feet on the wider side. Going up a half boot size from what I would normally wear fixed the problem for me. Burton also makes a Photon Wide Step On boot which may fix that problem.
Looks like we still need to do that collab after all. Lol 1. They are super easy and fast to get out of. ( I'll show you how) 2. There are adjustments that lessen and can even stop the click sound. 3. They are super easy to put on sitting down. (I'll show ya that too.) 4. Amazing on deep powder days. Ride right off the lift and step in and leave everyone behind. 5. I would NOT suggest them for beginners. They are a bit awkward at 1st to get in and out of. 6. They are super responsive. Let me know when you wanna do a follow up video and we will take 2 pair out and u will see how awesome it is riding with someone else who actually has them too. ;)
100% agree with everything Sean says. 2nd season on them. Only one disagreement, beginners don't know how to get into regular bindings won't realize these are awkward and they'll learn these first (and regular bindings will feel awkward). Started my 12 yr old on these, he clips in getting off the lift (something I haven't mastered yet) so I'm left playing catch-up with him every run. Older folks who aren't as, lets say flexible, these are a god send and will materially extend your day on the mountain as they lesson fatigue tremendously (I used to start every run nearly out of breathe from bending down to strap in to standard bindings). That's now a thing of the past! Love them, recommend them to everyone that sees my son, girlfriend, and I on them and asks about them.
@@laurarivera6911 I've seen wax, rubber pads, and extending the footbeds but you really can't remove it completly. Imo it isn't nearly as big a deal as some make it out to be, when recording I hear my goggles hitting my helmet more than the clicking. It's definitely weird the first time out tho
ill never go back to straps after using step-ons, they out preform regular strap bindings. Nothing is as responsive as them. put a little wax on the toe connections to get rid of the clicking noise and twist your foot inward more to get out faster.
I've only had them one season but I am 100% convinced. They are great, and once you get used to stepping in after dropping from the lift, you're good to go. I also noticed I get more runs in throughout the day. WAY less time spent sitting down/getting up or messing around trying to get the straps right. Saves energy too for taller rides (I'm 6'7"). Bending down to your straps is a long way down! haha
had been on the step on for 50+ days but this season i have gone back to the traditional. I would recommend stepon for the beginners or "weaker" boarders because they do reduce the efforts for the already struggled beginners. The weakness: loose, they are secure but still too much movements and play especially on the lateral directions. boots wear out faster. all the stress are on the boots. the straps on the traditional bindings takes the load but with step on it's the leather of the boots that constantly being stretched. after 50 days the boots are so loose and some stitching have come off What these step on bring you is really just few seconds each ride.
Bought these for my girl and she’s still not great🤣 but at least she isn’t wasting time/energy on the hill struggling to strap in and she’s already progressing faster. Definitely a win if you have the cash for it as the boots are NOT cheap.
After having Step On, never go back. I have snowboarded with Step On for 3 season since they came out. LUVIN' THEM. I even got the mine77 EST Step On for extra binding.
2:13 It's not about the time savings for me, it's about energy and effort. After getting up early, packing, dressing, driving, parking, waiting in line, and riding a lift, I just want to ***ing ride already. I LOVE the idea of not having to fuddle around with finicky straps all day. Just ordered my full set and I'm beyond stoked to try them out.
If you rotate out of the binding instead of stepping up (it takes a bit of practice) we find we don't trip over them anymore. We love them and would never go back 100% recommend! Worth every penny!
Finishing my 3rd season with the step ons and I have no complaints at all. Super responsive and easy to get in and out of once you understand the motion required. I usually hit the release lever, lean my ankle forward to lift the heel, then lift my foot with an outward twist motion to release the toes easily. This works the same on both sides. Also, I release one foot and then step on the board and release the leash and other foot with the same technique of foot exit.
Great video as always Jonathan. Have the step ons and love them. My mates are skiers and I was always ribbed about strapping in. Now I step of the lift ahead of harm.
4 seasons with step ons and heck yes they are well worth it. Two pairs and two sets of boots. Next season I'll get the modified new ones and some more boots. Guessing we are no longer making that step on collab. Lol
The new step on bindings have a new toe cleat that are supposed to completely eliminate noise and get out easier. Also they're bringing a new model the genesis step on to go with the standard and x models
@@randyguhl nice, i am trying to get burton to let me mess with them. considering I have videos with over 500k views on just 2 videos and have sold THOUSANDS of pairs of step sons with my stoke for this binding , you would think they would want to. lol
Sean, I can vouch for your statement! This was my first season ever and I have a bad back, watched your reviews on them and got really curious. Anyway, I got them and they helped me improve my riding more than 50%. I got the stiffest boots and they absolutely rock. Especially after break in. Getting off the lift and not stopping is a dream. My girlfriend and another friend who both ski really appreciate not waiting anymore.
I got the step-ons this year and am really enjoying them but was curious to hear somebody else’s impression of them. I just wanted to comment that locking in your foot while sitting down is so damn easy. I spent a stupid amount of time trying to step into the back foot while standing in heavy wind and was getting nowhere. When I finally tried it sitting down it was incredibly simple. Thanks for the second opinion / review!
I have been used it for 5 years. And broke one and get the same one again. The bottom of the boots teared out. But once I got used to, I cannot live without it. I am not a advanced rider, so I don't have any complain about the step in binding. Quick and easy and passing the others on the top start line. ;)
Another advantage of these bindings: If there is one thing I hate is to stand in line with one leg on the board and the other one pushing myself forward. So I just walk with my board in my hands all the way to the lift, and 1 or 2 people before my turn to go on the lift I drop the board on the floor and put my leg in. Standing in line is a lot easier now. Been using them for 2 seasons now. I personally have wide feet, and even with the wider boot and 1.5 size up, and taking out the insoles, the Burton boots still squish my feet. I'm going to try wide boots from another company and the Clew binding next season. Hopefully I'll be more comfortable.
Thanks for the video. I had Burton SI bindings back in 2001, thought they kinda sucked, put them on eBay. I had straps all the way until I stopped snowboarding in 2008 because I went to Taiwan to work and they don't snow there. Last month I decided to take my family to a ski trip in Japan and brought my old '07 gear up the hills and realized the 35lbs of weight gained ever since is getting a bit much for me to be bending down and do the straps. So yeah, after 22 years, I'm going back to a Burton step-in setup, time sure flies!
Honestly I started out on step ins when it came to rentals and I always had more fun with it. Nothing wrong with straps but step ons are definitely the ones I’ll purchase.
I do all my snowboarding with friends that ski. I'm seriously considering getting these as the strapping in is the most annoying part of getting out there together!
Love the step ons, first season out but it was great, can't wait for next year. Btw when u get out twist your heel inwards towards your body and it makes it super simple to get the toes out.
I had my set for two years now, love them. I have the stiff style boots with the over the top strap, will bever go back to regular boots, but the clicking your boots do while attached and your moving around does annoy some times
Hey Johnathan, Big fan of your channel! So for me the clicking sound of the Burton step-ins started ruining the tranquility of my pow days! (Can’t have that!!) So, what I found was, if you put just a little bit of wax on the bottom of the toe hook... *magic* clicking be gone! At first I tried board wax that was just starting to cool and it worked really well for most of (if not all of) the day. Then I saw this post of this guy using finishing wax from Home Depot and tried it out... just a little bit of the finishing wax started to prevent the clicking for serval days of riding! The other important thing, perhaps the most important is to make sure you have the bindings completely clipped in. Sometimes there’s a little bit of play from clipping in at an angle-this too will cause the clicking sound. Anyway, I hope this helps! And as always... keep evolving! 😝
I was super stoked on mine at first. however after wearing them for a few months worth of riding (15ish days on hill) I found that my feet and ankles were beginning to hurt. I suspect this is from the interface between boots and bindings and how little give there is in a slam. Regular boots and bindings have much more give than the step ons have and once I stepped back into my DC Mutinys and Bent Metal Cor Pro bindings I found my feet and ankles no longer aching and hurting after a slam or two. On another note, I first bought them to match a custom made Donek Knapton Twin for getting some high angle carves in, but quickly found out that even the highest forward lean wasn't enough to force my knees to bend to make heelside carves easier to get deep into. Almost any binding will have more forward lean to them. The binding disc they come with is also very limited on stance positioning with only 2 positions for the traditional 4 screw setup.
Hmmmmmm very interesting. Are your boots heat molded? Did it get better? I just got the step-ons and the photons, and I definitely feel like the boots are extremely tight around the ankle. I was going to ride mine for about 3 days and then heat treat them. We'll see how it goes.
When you unlock the heel, pull your heel out then turn it inward instead of stepping out with your toes. Your foot will be resting on the inner side of the binding, then you just turn the front of your boot straight and it will be resting where your stomp pad would be. I take my heel off the edge to pin the board while i remove my front foot the same way. helps alot
The only problem I have with the step on is, I’m 61 and I have no patience waiting for my group to strap in to there bindings. I’m going on 3 years with Step on and love them..
I swapped the release levers over so they are both on the inside and its much better also turning your heel toward the inside helps release the toe hooks more efficiently
You probably won’t see this, but if I could give you one piece of advice for getting out of the step ins, it’s to keep your front foot relatively straight and bend your back leg forward till your heel is out, then wiggle your toes out. Also when you step into them, make sure your snowpant leg is in the clip or they could get stuck in the lock and you will have to cut them out. Getting in, start with putting your heel in, then your toes. Make sure you hear 4 clicks, 2 on your toes, and 2on your heels. That means you are locked in. I have had these bindings for about 3 years now. 10/10 would TOTALLY reccomend
I'm 50 years old with a dad bod and a bit of a belly, on a recent boarding trip there was a quite a few flat sections which meant a lot of either bending over or sitting down to do up bindings, just doing that really took it's toll, made the decision there and then to get a pair of step on bindings for the next trip
i had to get new boots this season, and i just committed to go all-in on step-on. never looking back. the clicking noise is a non issue IMO. put some wax on it and it goes away.
Getting out is easy but unique. Once you've hit the release tab, pick up your heal while sort of rolling the pressure onto your big toe. That little twist gets your right out easy
These look interesting. I have a pair of Flows that I've been using for like 10+ years and have worked great. I'm honestly surprised more people don't have Flows and still do the strap thing.
Bought flows at snigrab like 15 years ago. I sold one with board to castle rock play it again sports for my kids board. I couldn’t believe they took it. I still have one pair left which is my brothers. The biggest problem with flows is no true toe strap, just one big piece of middle part of your foot. We would commonly get about 5 chairs in and then change out to strap in when we were young. Now we are old and just getting in 5 chairs is enough.
I love my step ons (so does my husband as a skier not waiting for me all the time). if you hesitate because of needing boots and bindings sell your old ones second hand, or keep them if you have a spare board and have them for powder days!
Over 30 years of snowboarding, been riding Burton Step Ons for 2 years (hills were closed last year due to Covid). Let me just say these step ons aren't the K2 Shimano ones from 1997 lol. Just remember to tuck in your pants in the back clip or else you won't be clipped in (first few runs of the season I forgot to do this and I thought I was clicked in but rear foot came out during the run). Never had the clicking sounds from day 1. I have now mastered skating into a rear foot step-in-to-ride (only pulled off a step in off chair lift to run once:)). Crucial for my local hill as I have to go up/skate to get to the top run from a far chair lift drop. If done right, everyone on step ins are able to skate into the click and have enough momentum to get to the top of the steepest run. I carve a lot (drag hands and forearm) and I'm on the heavier side with 11.5 sized boot. The carving is even better than my previous fave setup, Flow bindings. I do hit the park and had some big spills while getting hung up (stress on the bindings I thought from the type of falls). No damage to the screws or anything. Just make sure you loosen your screws when you hot wax your board or it will show through the base. Before every session check your screws and make sure they are tight.
Step on were by first setup that i got a month ago. Freaking love them but i did modify the lever to be on the inside instead of outside of boot. So much easier to grab that way.
how did you do that ? ive attached a tie wrap to my left lever as i struggle after a few days to reach it due to a smashed knee and pelvis back in the day
Been running mine for over a year now and IMO the single greatest advancement in snowboarding gear. They are more locked in feeling, lighter, comfortable, and faster than traditional bindings. BTW you need to twist your foot to get out of the toe clips not just pull up.
watching to see how well these take off. I currently am still riding Switch step ins and have a backup binding and boot in case my brerak as they are not longer made. LOVE my switches but would rather get something more up to date with tech.
Second season with Step Ons. I would have never switched if the responsiveness was going to be less. I do, however, have two important issues to share: (1) Forward lean goes to only F3 instead of the normal Burton F6. I understand that more forward lean messes up the boot to binding sizes; but after twenty years of F6 you can tell the difference on the heel side. (2) I made a huge mistake buying the Photon instead of my normal Ion (just because the Photon has a wide version). The problem is that the Photon gets really soft after two years. Recently I suffered a fracture on the Lateral Process of my Talus. (Probably a much stiffer new Ion would had protected my ankle better).
Yes, I use them for carving and/or in groups with advanced skiers. If you plan to carve extreme (back knee touching the snow in toe-side turn or front butt skimming the snow on heel-side), then go for the stiffer ION model (plus heel harness and intuition liners).
Love mine. I am 52 years old, skiing and snowboarding most of my life. As I have a lower back injury and shoulder injury from mountain biking and other sports I have a really hard time sitting and strapping bindings on and then standing up. And bending over at the waist and strapping in like the gentleman in the beginning of the video did is out of the question.
3rd season for me with the Step Ons. Best investment ever. I was on the SWITCH N-Type Step In which worked great but the rubber on the boots crumbled after 12 years. Don't listen to the BS about them not being good in powder, people a talking about not being able to step on them in powder. Regardless of any binding type, if you're stuck in deep powder, you have to crawl out and find a semi firm foundation with slope to get out no matter what.
I just bought these this year and I would have made this exact review. Getting in is super fast, but I can't get out either. They are super responsive and much lighter on your board than normal bindings.
I demoed them from the Boulder Burton store for free. Found them super easy to get into (and I normally ride flows)and they were very responsive. Downside is I hurt my hip falling/getting out of them and so a bit gun shy and went back to my flows.
Who they really work well for is small mountain/ hill riders. Faster prep for more laps. Save energy not fussing with straps so more laps still yet. It makes a big difference. Even flows help a lot.
The new DC step on boots are far superior fit to any of the burton step on boot models. I switched from a photon boot to the DC boot this season and my feet are so much happier.
I'd have to strongly disagree. I found the DCs to be incredibly uncomfortable. definitely recommend anyone try both, being that everyone's foot is going to be different. I have a pair of older regular DC boots that are comfortable, but the control step ons are not even close.
@@EwokyBalboa everyone has a different boot preference, but the DC boot suits me much better because I have a more flat foot. The photon boot gave me a ton of foot arch pain.
@@EwokyBalboa tell me where you can go and try one, let alone both? You will be buying them online and trying to return one or the other and that sounds shitty. lol
One time the safety bar on the lift raised the release lever on the binding, yea my board fell 20 ft and base down and it slid down the mountain. Anyway, I switched the release lever to the inside of the bindings, future problem avoided, it’s also easier to get out of the bindings. I haven’t used my regular bindings in two years which is probably 100+ days and I really like the step ons.
I started with stepons and never had a mental block. You’ve got to twist your front foot to get out easily. Once you get used to you should be good. Saves a ton of energy when waiting in lines getting on or off… I think burtons undersell the advantage they bring. Heard so many videos ppl complain about them. Not fair. Benefits outweighs the cons.
Funny today is my first day on step on with DC control. Finally kept up with my wife and kid who usually just decided to get rid of me as as we get off the lift when I start strapping. I did not pay attention to the clicking at all. Buy it if your feet fit Burton or DC.
Yeah I'm 56 years old and have been skiing more and boarding less mostly because of the strapping in process. I might give these a try...when other companies follow suit. Lol

another reason I love the step ons - not just the time to strap in but the effort from standing up or leaning forward, gloves off and on, etc. saves energy (for us older riders) that we can put towards going down the hill.
Might need new gloves if you have to glove off for regular bindings though haha
Why would you need to glove off to do off bindings... snowboard gloves are usually dexterous enough to strap in with them on.

The Belly Issue is easy to deal with. Just stop eating Starch & Sugar in your meals & snacks. I lost 50 lbs, that was 25% of my weight by eating right and buying a Bike to ride in the Summer. I’m going to be 66 this Winter so knocking off weight is easy if you really want to do it,
It’s for the one snowboarder out of the group of skiers
Literally, I demoed some in telluride and and I was actually able to keep up with the skiers right off the chair lift instead of them watching you sit down and strap in for 45 seconds, then fall when you rush trying to get up😂
i was looking for this comment :))) I'm always that snowboarder in a group of skiers
Me too…in my 50s, I can’t ski….all my friends stopped snowboarding and now everyone waits for me….buying them now
I gotta say, I love the step ons. I was a total beginner this season (yes I got obsessed with snowboarding and bought all of my equipment + step ons and a board in 1 go ha) and was hittin jumps and grinds by the end of season simply because I was getting more runs in than any of my friends ha.
Dude btw that’s sick 🔥🔥
that's so awesome to hear man good job!
So over exaggerated
yea this guy doesn't know what he's talking about lol
I lift heel first, the rotate my foot from the inside outward. That has been the best way I have found.
If you turn subtitles on, at the very start it says “what’s up female guys”
Snowboarders are a very diverse kind of people
Hahaha
It’s crazy these are now becoming big, when I was snowboarding in 2002 or so, the rental boards were all step ons and they were considered inferior but we were killing it down the mountains
These were out in 2002?
@@markvuong8507this is relatively old technology lol. But the designs have definitely improved.
Rip Rip Rip
chargeback on your credit card bro
I’ve just started snowboarding and have went four times. The first time I went I hit the biggest jump in the park (not knowing that it was the biggest jump) and I fell flat, hit my head, and had a headache for the rest of the day. Yet I still want to do it for a living :)
I had almost the same experience, except I was quite a while into my first season haha! It's not fun 😶
if you werent wearing helmet you I would get one. Just do it for your MOM. so she doesnt have to visit you with a tube coming out of your mouth..
Look before you leap.
I just got step-ons for Christmas and the hardest parts to get used to is the clicking and getting out of it, you have to lean forward while you click the heel out and twist your toe and it will come right out. When you get used to it they are the best things I’ve purchased
Another channel suggested waxing the toe clips, haven't tried this myself tho
@@randomfrequency I only had to apply wax twice this entire winter. It works perfectly. No clicking whatsoever.
did they hold up well in the park? that’s the only thing that’s keeping me from picking up a pair, i’m really into the park but scared they’re gonna pop out on me on rails and jumps
Yeah what do you mean by twist motion?
I swapped the R and L release latches to be on the inside of the foot instead of the outside. Way more comfortable to reach.
Yeah it's a game changer, did that before even riding them once.
Yeeww
Haha Ellstacker!!
is there a video w that mod? would like to do that for next season
@@momof2dc yes. Search for burton step on modification. You'll find several videos showing how to basically disassemble each side and swap parts over. It was a game changer for me. I started enjoying the bindings much more after doing that. Way easier with my stance to reach the inside of the foot than the outside.
The accidental coffin ride over the box was great haha!
as an almost 60 yr old boarder with serious knee injury issues i retired 4 years ago as 2 days in i couldnt get my bindings fastened (youll understand 1 day guys) then i discovered step ons ,needless to say im back with a vengeance ive even adapted the release catch with tie wraps so i dont need to bend down to get out of them 🤗🤗 theyre absolutely brilliant
Had that issue this year and went from the ruler to the photon wide and it was day and night
what shoe size did you end up with?
Is Burton flexible on returning the boots if this becomes an issue? It’s going to be my first time getting all my gear so step ons are on my list :)
@@kathypear2540 They did for me.
@@christophermatthews555 cool thanks! Do they ever have sales on these?
Yes I have them. I never hesitate about taking them off when I get stuck on a flat or want to climb up. Got the 2021 Versions.
Totally worth.
I love my step ons. The minor clicking doesn’t bother me but most people had found ways to eliminate the clicking with adjusting
I snowboard solo anyways so I've always got music in
Looks like we still need to do that collab after all. Lol
1. They are super easy and fast to get out of. ( I'll show you how)
2. There are adjustments that lessen and can even stop the click sound.
3. They are super easy to put on sitting down. (I'll show ya that too.)
4. Amazing on deep powder days. Ride right off the lift and step in and leave everyone behind.
5. I would NOT suggest them for beginners. They are a bit awkward at 1st to get in and out of.
6. They are super responsive.
Let me know when you wanna do a follow up video and we will take 2 pair out and u will see how awesome it is riding with someone else who actually has them too. ;)
Thank you, Sean - I watched your in depth reviews. Very helpful. I demoed and bought em.
How do you stop the clicking sound ?
@@laurarivera6911 I've seen wax, rubber pads, and extending the footbeds but you really can't remove it completly. Imo it isn't nearly as big a deal as some make it out to be, when recording I hear my goggles hitting my helmet more than the clicking. It's definitely weird the first time out tho
@@bbailey74 good counter point that I did not think of.
ill never go back to straps after using step-ons, they out preform regular strap bindings.
Bending down to your straps is a long way down! haha
Thanks for this - I'm 6'6" and you helped me make a decision!
6'4" here, man I'm 29 and I am NOT flexible. I have no problem getting out. Getting on is the hard part.
had been on the step on for 50+ days but this season i have gone back to the traditional. I would recommend stepon for the beginners or "weaker" boarders because they do reduce the efforts for the already struggled beginners.
The weakness:
loose, they are secure but still too much movements and play especially on the lateral directions.
boots wear out faster. all the stress are on the boots. the straps on the traditional bindings takes the load but with step on it's the leather of the boots that constantly being stretched. after 50 days the boots are so loose and some stitching have come off
What these step on bring you is really just few seconds each ride.
What boots were you using? I recently bought set of step on bindings and Swath boots but I havent had time to teat them.
I have the step one. First season and love em.
Tried Step on bindings with ruler boots for the first time on Saturday. I couldn't be happier. Felt and rode great. Super convenient.
I've had a few pairs the past like 6 years, all of them are still working and in good condition and never had a problem with them, def worth it
4 seasons with step ons and heck yes they are well worth it. Two pairs and two sets of boots. Next season I'll get the modified new ones and some more boots.
Guessing we are no longer making that step on collab. Lol
What's the difference with the "modified new ones"?
@@Fez_Vrasta wish I knew but from what I hear they will be backwards compatible with all old set ups.
I’m 62, just gettin back in, this is what I always said I was waitin for! Because I watched this, I think I might! Thank you!
Definitely do it! They will be great for you
I bought my Step Ons 2 years ago when I was 64. They are very easy to get used to using and you’ll never regret spending the extra money they cost.
@@c-noclark8153 any where near me is just short downhill runs, I was spending the day takin straps on and off. Thanks for the comment on these .
Great video as always. I have been rocking these for the last 2 seasons and really enjoy how responsive they are.
Thanks for this - helped me make a decision!
I have been used it for 5 years. And broke one and get the same one again. The bottom of the boots teared out. But once I got used to, I cannot live without it. I am not a advanced rider, so I don't have any complain about the step in binding. Quick and easy and passing the others on the top start line. ;)
Awesome review! I was worried about potential limitations and this gave me the confidence to get ‘em
Heck yeah!
Hopefully I'll be more comfortable.
if you twist the inside toe out, like twisting your knee outwards, it comes out super nice
edit: spelling
Nice!
Johnathan: “It’s honestly nice to strap in faster than Benton”
Benton: “ “
So funny
I've had the burton step ons for 2 years. Absolutely love them
@Clay Shaw $200+ for what should be $40 is absolutely absurd though.
Thank you for your review and time spent creating this!
I do all my snowboarding with friends that ski. I'm seriously considering getting these as the strapping in is the most annoying part of getting out there together!
I have some step ons I love them never going back to strap bindings
Love the step ons, first season out but it was great, can't wait for next year. Btw when u get out twist your heel inwards towards your body and it makes it super simple to get the toes out.
I prefer to twist outward. Key is the twist either way.
2 year, I LOVE these things. 110% worth it.
I take my heel off the edge to pin the board while i remove my front foot the same way. helps alot
Thanks for the tips!!
The only problem I have with the step on is, I’m 61 and I have no patience waiting for my group to strap in to there bindings. I’m going on 3 years with Step on and love them..
Awesome 🙌🏼
I swapped the release levers over so they are both on the inside and its much better also turning your heel toward the inside helps release the toe hooks more efficiently
So glad you finally got to Try those!! Thanks for the knowledge dude!!!
I’ve had them for 3 season they work awesome save a lot of time and overall feel better for me!
just bought a pair. arriving this week so we shall see! heard alot of great things about the step-ons so i'm excited
They will help a lot 🤙🏼
i had to get new boots this season, and i just committed to go all-in on step-on. never looking back. the clicking noise is a non issue IMO. put some wax on it and it goes away.
Getting out is easy but unique. Once you've hit the release tab, pick up your heal while sort of rolling the pressure onto your big toe. That little twist gets your right out easy
I bought step ons this season, I'll never go back.
Had Burton step ins in 2000 and I loved em
1:23 most accurate description ever, love it 😂
😂😂
These look interesting. I have a pair of Flows that I've been using for like 10+ years and have worked great. I'm honestly surprised more people don't have Flows and still do the strap thing.
Your flow lasted you 10 years? Which ones do you have?
@@internetuser3748just saw this lol, my bad. I have no idea which ones they are but any flow bindings should work.
Rub some base wax on the front connection points on the boots and the bindings, and the clicking goes away completely. Works like a charm!
That’s awesome
I love my step ons (so does my husband as a skier not waiting for me all the time). if you hesitate because of needing boots and bindings sell your old ones second hand, or keep them if you have a spare board and have them for powder days!
Use the step ons in powder. So much better and easier to use in powder than regular straps.
To get out of step on, just turn your toes in/outwards and you pop right out easily.
I got Step on setup, i stared ate and I'm 50! so i was the target audience! you are 100% right!
As the proud owner of a dad bod I fully support this messaging. Strapping in is getting to be a pain in the ass now.
Lift heel, twist foot out, don’t pull straight up.
I demoed them from the Boulder Burton store for free. Found them super easy to get into (and I normally ride flows)and they were very responsive. Downside is I hurt my hip falling/getting out of them and so a bit gun shy and went back to my flows.
If you are an older snowboarder I 100% recommend, my step father has these and they are very nice
Thanks man, I'm getting my tomorrow, good info especially the go out from them and clicking thing :) cheers
After a few days on the mountain you don’t notice the clicking anymore. You also get pro at stepping out, just takes practice 😊
I bet! Thanks man
Super funny you fell just in time to slide over that box 📦
Kool review I'm getting those for sure .
Never going back to strap bindings. I love my step ons
@@VegasAlex702 I replaced the insole, apart from not cinching down the boa strap as hard and that got rid of the pain with the Ions
@@VegasAlex702 yea, hence my second paragraph recommending ppl try both.

When you fell going up to that box you still made it look smooth
One time the safety bar on the lift raised the release lever on the binding, yea my board fell 20 ft and base down and it slid down the mountain. Anyway, I switched the release lever to the inside of the bindings, future problem avoided, it’s also easier to get out of the bindings. I haven’t used my regular bindings in two years which is probably 100+ days and I really like the step ons.
My Step On bindings came with a handy leash, which I use because I'm old like that.
@@richferris9226 I highly recommend the leash if you don’t move the release lever inside👍🏽
What camera did you film this vid on? It’s amazing quality and color.
Do you need a Burton snowboard to put these on or can you put then on any snowboard
Any snowboard works
Yeah I'm 56 years old and have been skiing more and boarding less mostly because of the strapping in process. I might give these a try...when other companies follow suit. Lol
