I have had a 2015 Passat TDI for over a year and LOVE IT! I got it because I am a truck guy but my job moved about an hour away and can't afford the gas in my Z71 truck. The car gets around 48-50 MPG all day.
@bradh6185 I just bought a 2010 Jetta TDI and comparing the driving experience to my dads 2015 TDI passat, the Jetta definitely has more get up and go for being the first Gen 2.0L. The 2015 passat TDI seems to have a bit more turbo lag and likes to idle around 1100 to 1300 rpm going 70mph. Hence it gets 50mpg avg easily. My 2010 TDI like to idle around 1800 to 2000 rpm at 70mph getting about 42 to 43mpg. So ya, the 2015 TDI passat is a bit slower. But a fantastic car

Yesterday I purchased a 2013 passat tdi sel with 30k miles. Recieved the tdi warranty and CPO warranty. Today it's in the shop because the sound board came off and when I started it in park it made an acceleration grinding sound. I'll let you know what happens.
I haven't heard anything about that type of problem. I don't even know what a sound board is! Since these cars have been sitting for so long, I really do think certified is the way to go. I'm sure once you get it sorted out it will be a great car.
@@doublejslist I picked my car up the next day and its running great. The board keeps noise to a minimum and dirt from going into the engine compartments. It's a panel directly under the engine. This is the first car I've had to have one. The sound board was missing a screw and came undone and a piece of the plastic board got caught in the fan. So when idling that broken piece caused the fan to increase the accelerator to over compensate of the lag of the fan. The service department said if the fan broke it would have been covered under the warranty. I didnt pay anything.

Hey JJ great video! Just a heads up for the warranty. IT WORKS. Had a turbo shit the bed on me in my 2013 Passat TDI back in May. Got a new engine, proof of water pump and timing chain done on the new one, and brand new turbo. Just got it back 3 days ago though because Borg Warner was completely backed up with VAG TDI warranty work. So I had to wait 7 months for a turbo, but because it sat so long my dealership gave me brand new brakes and tires on all 4 corners. Never had to pay a single dime. They also paid for a rental for me the whole time. My dealership didn't try to hide anything from me and the service manager kept me up to date on the situation as best he could. Super happy with the results! Edit: if anyone needs some warranty advice feel free to ask away! I'd say I'm fairly knowledgeable of it. Had to fight with my regional service representative to get my rental because they apparently didn't know they're required to pay for a rental if no loaners are available per VW vs United States agreement and warranty statement

Get ready for the EGR system causing continual damage in all aspects of the cooling system because of electrolysis. Had a 2014 Passat SE TDI. I looked at some of these at my local VW dealer. They tried to tell me there is no extra warranty on these, but I could see that little service sticker on the inside of the hood and I had thought the extra warranty would start from the date on that? I think they were telling me this so I'd buy extra warranty from them, but I don't know. I ended up not pulling the trigger mainly because of that and when I looked under the hood I saw several things had a significant amount of rust on them. It was kind of a reminder like "Hey, this has sat for a very long time. You sure about this?" I don't think any of the rusted stuff was important, and I'm sure I'll be dead by the time they completely rust away, but still not a good thing to see.

After watching your video now I need to decide if I should pay a little more ($1,500) for a 2015 with about 45 to 50 k or a 14 with 30 to 40 k because of the extra warranty with the 2015 I don't know now whichis better. I probably drive 25k a year. If you have any input I would appreciate it. Thanks
Apparently I still don't quite understand how this warranty works. Maybe somebody can help me out? I recently bought a 2015 Golf TDI from a used dealership. It has 78k miles on it. I looked up the the warranty status using the VIN number and it says this: The vehicle has an Extended Emissions Warranty that runs for 11 years or 162,000 miles from the original in-service date. Please see your VW dealership for additional information including the vehicle's in-service date. In addition, and concurrently, the Extended Emissions Warranty runs for 5 years or 60,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of modification or first dealer resale post-modification. Your vehicle was modified on Mar 28, 2019 and 39,943 miles. Please see your VW dealership for additional information on the vehicle's post-modification dealer re-sale date. Would this vehicle still be under warranty for me?
Looks like you are covered until March 27, 2024 or 99, 942 miles at the very least. you need your in service date to find out if you are covered beyond that if it works out longer than the warranty after the repair.
Found a 2015 sportwagen with one owner who used it consistently since 2017 to end of 2023 totalling 100k miles. Looks like the system was brought into compliance at 40k miles so if I'm understanding right I wouldn't get any warranty on it now?
I have a 2011 Golf TDI and my extended warranty went to 133,000. My vehicle only has 123k. In that time, the turbo failed, and the intake manifold failed. They replaced those for free. Recently, my EGT Bank 1 Sensor 1 went out. This is the EGT sensor prior to the turbo, I'm curious as to whether they should be covering that as well? I'd fix it myself, but anyone that has had that issue, knows that the sensor is located in an impossible location in between the engine and the firewall. If anyone knows that VW should cover that, please let me know. That could save me a ton of $$$.
thanks for all the info.. seriously considering pulling the trigger.. i do 2-3 200 mile round trip commutes (almost all highway miles) every week. Did you get a manual? unfortunately if you want a manual the selection is limited.

I’ve seen people claim they are covered. From what understand, if it makes the check engine light come on, it’s covered. You may have to try a different dealer, or call VW of America.
Make sure it has up-to-date maintenance records. With it being a 2014, it’s getting close to needing a timing belt service. Factor that into your budget.
I live in the Southwest and located a Jetta wagon TDI in Maryland. What are the things I should look for in a State where the car may have been exposed to salt during winters?
Look under the hood and underneath. See if there is surface rust on the hardware and any white salt residue. Bear in mind that most of the cars for sale right now, lived in another part of the country and were purchased of VWs holding lot. Check the Carfax to see where it has been registered.
Thanks for the video. Im looking to buy a 2015 Audi Q5 TDI with a rebuilt title. The owner opts not to perform the recall even though they offer it at every service. If I purchase it, can I still have the recall done and get a warranty? Thanks in advance.
Really appreciate this information. I’ve wanted to get a tdi. Does tdi for Touareg have similar warranty? You’re right there’s nothing on RUclips about this. Thank you so much
I'm going to look at a 2014 TDI wagon tomorrow that's sitting on a used car lot. What are the chances the seller isn't even aware of this warranty? It's got very low mileage. Any tips on what to look out for in terms of problems, since this car has obviously been parked for much of its life?
Peter Rogers Some sellers have no idea. If it’s a used car lot, chances are that they bought it at an auction and it was advertised that it has the warranty. Do your research, get a Carfax, and really look over the car. If it is approaching 100,000 miles, make sure it has had a timing belt and water pump service.
I think the supply is starting to dwindle. Although a friend sent me a Touareg TDI last night that had the fix at the end of January. So they are still around, but the hunting is a little harder now.

May i ask you... I am thinking on getting a golf TDI 2.0 but i have no idea about diesel engines, is this a car you would recommend? It has 72k and it's navigation and sunroof. I'd appreciate any and every advice.
What year? Run the VIN on the VW diesel lookup website and find out how much warranty is left. That's where I'd start. They are great cars to own while they are under the warranty.
Double J's List awesome resource. I would NEVER have considered buying one of these vehicles let alone a diesel but for the money I can’t pass it up. As I said I need a decent “beater” to haul our dog and household duty and these have to be the best bang for the buck. I figure I’ll need to fill it up about once every THREE MONTHS, maybe even FOUR. I have found a bunch of A3’s and JETTA’s all under $10K with around 50K miles on them and they all look to be in really great condition. Again thanks.
@@doublejslist I’m struggling with the idea of trading in my 2016 golf sportwagen tsi (base model) for an older tdi. Is this a sane move? Haha Any advice is welcomed.
@@Buffy2222 Going backwards to a Touareg TDI is probably a bad move, unless you are really comfortable with some potentially expensive repairs in the future in exchange for a larger, more powerful vehicle with a ton of capability. I don't think I would personally make that move, but it really depends on your situation and your tolerance for repairs and maintenance.
@@doublejslist Even with the Emissions Warranty? The Touareg ticks all my boxes but I understand what you’re saying. I’m also looking at Jetta wagons and possibly a 2015 Passat tdi.
If you can find one that has had the fix done recently to get the most benefit from the warranty, then you will probably be in a good position, but they are getting hard to find. Most have had the fix a year or two ago now.
Typically, you don't purchase a CPO warranty. A used car is offered by a dealership of the same brand if it meet the manufactures requirements and the dealer wants to sell it as such. It usually states in the advertisement for the car or on a sticker on the car that it is a certified used car.
does the extended warranty cover the timing belt, or would that be an out-of-pocket expense? i just bought a 15 with 52k miles, and i know they need a timing belt at 100k-120k miles
Some are still being sold as CPO. Some still appear to be getting the fix and getting the emissions warranty. When you find one for sale look it up here: www.vwdieselinfo.com
It depends on how you define quality. To some, a bland appliance that almost never fails them is high quality. Also, once you get into some of the higher end Japanese stuff, specifically Lexus, and there is definitely some of that German type of quality on the interior. Also, have you ever looked at Toyota Land Cruisers? Literally some of the most rugged, durable, long lasting, heavy high quality vehicles ever made.
@@doublejslist Ok, full disclosure, I worked for Toyota for 7 years. They make good stuff; having seen all of their new stuff I still prefer any German make over anything Japanese.
You’d have to contact a dealer for that question. I have no idea.
Are cars with salvage titles covered?
I do t think so. I’d advise you to have a look at the website about the scandal to figure out if they are: www.vwdieselinfo.com/#
I'm getting a used 2013 VW Jetta TDI soon, the car was not bought back by VW, the previous owner(s) kept it. Am I still entitled to any warranty?
Check on the VWs website if it is still under warranty. I think it's vwtdiinfo.com
Really appreciate this information. I’ve wanted to get a tdi. Does tdi for Touareg have similar warranty? You’re right there’s nothing on RUclips about this. Thank you so much
Yes it does! here it is for 2011-12 www.vwdiesellookup.com/pdf/VWCourtSettlement_Emissions_Disclosure_3L_Gen1_SubGen2_Final.pdf
And here it is for 2013-14 www.vwdiesellookup.com/pdf/VWCourtSettlement_Emissions_Disclosure_3L_SubGen1_Final.pdf
and for 2015-16 www.vwdiesellookup.com/pdf/VWCourtSettlement_Emissions_Disclosure_3L_SubGen2_Final.pdf
@@doublejslist thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Do these vehicles have timing belts? I thought they were chains?
Do you know if this warranty is transferable I just bought one and it still should be under warranty I think
It should be transferable. Put you vin in VWs website and it will give you details on your warranty. www.vwdieselinfo.com/
Any VW dealership can perform the work on these models and cover it under the warranties mentioned?
They should, but I have heard horror stories about some service departments.
My friend has a TDI he deleted all the emissions software and he almost gets 50 miles a gallon now
I talk about this in my latest video!
@@doublejslist link please? Can't find it yet.
Are these CPO deals still available anymore? I haven't had much luck finding one.
I think the supply is starting to dwindle. Although a friend sent me a Touareg TDI last night that had the fix at the end of January. So they are still around, but the hunting is a little harder now.
@@doublejslist That's what I've discovered. Prices aren't what they were either. I actually just had to give up, bought a used XC60. Thanks for the reply!
I Bought my 2015 Jetta SEL TDI Tornado Red 6 Speed Manual Loaded with options new in Feb 2015 it was requested for me in Oct 2014.......love this car!! Of course Diesel Gate occurred 6 months after I bought it! I did not sell it back! 1st I got a 1K Credit Card then they gave me 7K Fixed the Car and gave me very long warranty. Why sell it back? I now own a 2014 BMW 328D (Diesel) XDrive and a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Eco Diesel! FCA got popped for cheating also .......love my Diesels
I think FCA has a similar warranty on those ecodiesels too.
Does anyone know what service VW does on these cars after they sat for so long?
I’m pretty sure it was done on an individual basis. My car had a new battery and new brake pads and rotors when I bought it.
Hey! may I ask what website that is? Thank you!
Did Audi have any vehicles included in this recall? Looking to buy a 2012 Audi A3 Hatchback TDI as a beater.
Yes they did! you can look up the VIN here to see if it had the fix, and how much warranty is left. audidiesellookup.com
Anyone else told glow plugs not covered?
For somebody who was not going to go into diesel gate you sure dove right in!?
Does warranty include timing belt replacement
No, that's considered a maintenance item,
Nicely doneJJ.
Is the Touareg tdi listed?
Yes. Google 3.0 TDI settlement. ;-)
No links as stated.
I have an updated video about this in the TDI playlist. I have links there
great info, thanks a lot! how do you purchase the cpo warranty?
Typically, you don't purchase a CPO warranty. A used car is offered by a dealership of the same brand if it meet the manufactures requirements and the dealer wants to sell it as such. It usually states in the advertisement for the car or on a sticker on the car that it is a certified used car.
does the extended warranty cover the timing belt, or would that be an out-of-pocket expense? i just bought a 15 with 52k miles, and i know they need a timing belt at 100k-120k miles
Timing belt is considered routine maintenance. So no that isn't covered under warranty if it fails outside the period that it needs to be replaced.
Everyone loves the tdi 😎
Is VW still selling it as CPO?
Some are still being sold as CPO. Some still appear to be getting the fix and getting the emissions warranty. When you find one for sale look it up here: www.vwdieselinfo.com
@@doublejslist thank you for all the great info. You know more than vw sales guy
I have 4 Volkswagens, I would never trade my German car for any, and I mean any Japanese car. German quality is the best period.
The Land Cruiser is very nice, but at the end of the day I buy VW. We have 4 as a family. All that said, I appreciate your comment.
Your cat wants out 😂
No, he wants pets.
nah make us a pre-disel gate TDI buyers guide
Delete it.
Reason diesels are shit in the US it's the diesel. It's piss.
It's a factor indeed.
