  • In this video I tell you if driving your Mopar in Track mode actually hurts your car or not. Track mode can be a ton of fun but will it hurt your transmission in the long run? If you own a Mopar you must know this.

I’ve had my WB Scat Pack Challenger for almost two years and track mode is the only setup that I drive in (unless it’s raining). Eco is just to boring and I love the hard shifts and hearing those bullets crackle and pop in track mode. I may drive it tomorrow in sport just to see what difference I experience but I can almost guarantee you I’ll be back to track in no time 💪🏽🔥

I got my WB scat pack a few months ago and started off in street then sport then finally track mode.... once you're used to track mode going back to even sport mode feels so sluggish. I set up my custom mode with track trans, steering and suspension with traction control in sport, or street if it's raining, and love it!

@@easy6427 I was gonna say the same thing. Once you've put it in the transmission in Track mode, going back is like getting into a 4 cylinder Buick. And yeah, I keep my custom traction mode on Sport too.

@@danielibarra3643 oh most definitely! Putting the transmission in track mode gives you the most performance out of the engine but at the cost of the worst gas mileage. Usually with a full tank I can get around 200 miles when in my custom mode, while if I put it in street or eco i'll get between 350 to 380 depending on how much hwy vs Street driving I'm doing. For me though, mileage isn't really a factor. I work from home and the only time I NEED to drive is errands. Other than that I'm pretty much just driving to enjoy the car so I leave it in track unless I'm on some kind of road trip.

Cool RacerX. Bought my 21 Widebody Scat Pack Challenger from Ferman Dodge in Lutz ( sister dealership). Great video. Bought mine brand new. You are 100% correct about proper break in procedure. I work for Dodge as a service advisor and I have also heard the same thing...track mode won't hurt the car. Haven't yet put my car in track mode but changed out the tires for Continental Extreme Contacts...what a game changer getting the Pinellas off the car. Car hooks excellent...smooth ride and great cornering. Thanks for the video

Every time I start my scat pack I have it in track mode everyday unless I’m on a road trip, I’ve had the car for almost 3 years now and absolutely ZERO issues not even the HEMI tick. These cars are built to be driven the way they are supposed to be driven and as long as you put good gas and good fluids, you should be good to go.

But, one thing about track is that you do have to break really extra early this car is an animal what it could do.

Racer X L had a brand new 2018 Charger 392 Daytona traded it in for a pitch black completely new loaded 2021 scatpack I totaled the car in an accident that was not my fault went back to same dealership and all the scatpacks had at least a 10,000 mark up and the cars were not loaded at all, they would not budge, I was outraged at them. Went to Ford dealership no mark up on price got a brand new 2021 5.0 loaded all the highest options after six months with the 5.0 and you are right driving the 392 in Track mode does not hurt the car but I really miss Mopar the Mustang has no torque its a nice car but in 1 year will trade it in for a another Mopar the cars are just more fUN to drive. I'll share some things I learned from David Starnes, one of the BEST trans builders for the ZF transmissions. I broke my trans when I was around 800rwhp because I was accidentally in Street Trans mode, instead of Track where the TCM tune was. Well I broke it pretty badly. After getting it built, he said running it in street, the pressure in the trans are at their lowest. But in track, it's at it's highest. You can "technically" break a stock trans running WOT constantly in street trans mode due to these pressures. He deals with it all the time and even made some silly mistakes testing built trans at WOT in street trans mode and eneded up braking some. Track trans is a MUST when using heavy acceleration in stock or high horsepower cars 👍

the thing I would be concerned about is putting the line lock on for the front calipers in order to do burnouts, I mean maybe once in a while (not to mention that tires for these cars are expensive!) but that in of itself puts a lot of strain on the trans. it's not much different imo than doing brake stands with other cars that don't have line lock. I did that sort of thing years ago with cars, building up pressure taking off.. It started screwing up the shifting as time went on. rougher gear changes. good thing the reverse didn't go..as we all know thats the first sign in autos the trans is going

I have a 2022 R/T, and I definitely followed the break in recommendation to the letter. However I didn't use sport mode a whole lot, and I wish I had done so. Mine is just a simple R/T so I don't have track mode or dynamic suspension, but I seem to remember reading in the manual that the tranny will "learn" driving habits and adjust to facilitate that kind of driving. I feel like I haven't "taught" the car how to deal with me driving it in that mode. A mutual friend has a Nissan GT-R and he voided his warranty by using launch mode on the car before the break in was finished; so this being my first sports car, I was afraid to do the same thing

I always suspected Sport and Track were easier on the transmission just because sometimes with all the 8 gears for the automatics it feels like the computer can’t decide what gear the car should be in on Street mode. So I always drive my 2020 Scat Pack Challenger set up with Sport steering and traction and with Track transmission settings. I only use all on Street if it’s raining (or the roads are wet) or on long distance drives. And I’ll only put it in Eco if I’m in heavy stop-and-go traffic or in a drive thru.

Very interesting thanks a lot for the information
Unfortunately, consumption also changes and a lot ....
Here, gasoline is really expensive now
    1,9euro for 0,264 gallons (1 liter)

I noticed the hellcat sounds louder in track mode. I was driving around mostly in sport mode. But it sounds louder in track, is the exhaust wide open in track? Also I noticed how hard it shifts but it’s good to know it’s not a bad thing. I can’t believe how insane this car is.

Thanks a lot for the info. Does track mode consume more fuel compared to sports and street? I know it all depends on how hard one revs and press the paddle, but I love the exhaust sound in track mode but rarely press the paddle hard so if you were to drive normal, does fuel consumption vary?

When I purchased my 19 WB Challenger new , I drove from Florida to Virginia ( $10k under msrp😁) to get it. It was a 1200 mile trip, and it was broken in on day 1. 😁

I drive my 1320 in Drag mode almost all the time. The only time that I dont is when I am going on the highway for more than a few miles. Why? Because drag mode keeps the car from going into 8th gear and also from engaging MDS. So you will get better mpg on the highway in regular drive mode. However around town 100% drag mode. Snappier responce, better shifting and engine breaking is substantial saving wear and tear on the Brembos. Just do a fuse reset every couple of months to erase and learned drive habits to keep it snappy.

My man, thanks for keeping up with us Mopar guys even though you've moved on. You still have great insights for us and I appreciate it. What mode do you think is better in the quarter mile for the Hellcat? Track or sport? Personally, I tried both and sport mode got really scary really fast. It got almost sideways twice at about 100 ft. So I left it in track after that. We all know using launch control is a joke. Damned engine is way too powerful and quick for launch to be effective.
Anyhow, I asked you two years ago for quarter mile advice for my then Scat Pack. Now I'm asking for advice in the quarter for my Hellcat. Thanks for all you do Paul. Been awesome knowing you from a distance these past few years.

Oh yeah. Transmission in track or sport is the bomb. Track mode on the suspension sucks unless the road is smooth.

I have a 2015 SRT 392 Challenger and drive it daily. I drive it in track mode all the time, and it's 2023 now, with no problems but more consumption and wear with gas, tires, and brakes. Follow your maintenance and it will last you a long time. I also drift mine as well. Don't do that unless you want to wear and tear it out 😂

People ask this question alot, ive heard it a bunch of times over the last few years ,and my answer was always NO ,it will not hurt ur car driving in track mode,BUT ,That dont mean if ur riding in trackmode Beating the shit out of the thing on a daily basis that u wont have problems eventually, but it wasnt trackmode that gave u those problems ,it was you Dogging the shit out of the car that did. 😆

Couldnt have said it better! Use the track mode for transmission as much as you can! That will have it shift in its normal mode where the others cause it to slip to make it feel smoother!
