    In metal, Iron Maiden
But regardless of genre, it would be the band that played at Wembley and got all the audience to clap in unison.

Maiden IS THE BEST but it seems so obvious that no one is choosing them. I mean the last tour is metal grandiose:
      - Musicianship: check
      - Showmanship: check
      - tracklist: check
      - concert length: check
      - Stage decor: check
      - Sound and light effect: check
      - scenography: check
      ....
I can go on and on... Even when the bitch Osbourne tried to break them at one Ozzfest, they always kept playing louder and faster...

Rammstein #1. The show and theatrics is everything. Pantera - most emotional, raw power, and absolutely fun shows I've ever seen. Type O Negative - on Halloween this is the best show I've ever seen in my life - but also some of the worst shows when Pete was too hammered to function. Machine Head - best recent live show I've seen. Intensity and fantastic crowd.

I've seen quite a few bands live including Korn, Van Halen, Rush, animals as leaders, Iced Earth. The best "show" I've seen from a band was Rush on their Time Machine Tour. The best "live act" I've experienced was surprisingly Intronaut. To this day they are still the only band who played so loud that my eyes were oscillating in the sockets.
I unfortunately never was able to see The Who, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Meshuggah, Pink Floyd, or Devin Townsend but I hear that they are all quite impressive live bands.

Ya Tool and Meshuggah in terms of technical perfection, Korn and System up there in terms of energy. Best is probably between Tool and Meshuggah, no contest.

Tool was probably the most amazing show I’ve ever seen... but in a different way, Origin and Fleshgod Apocalypse blew me away when I saw them live... I saw All that Remains open for Dying Fetus when they had just released “This Darkened Heart” and that was the first time I had that cliche stoner moment when I could hear colors. The melodies between the 2 guitarists sounded so angelic through the speakers i’ll never forget that.

...4. Metallica. For over 30 years they've consistenly delievered great live performances of their music while also making sure to create great setlists for each tour they do, no matter the era they've been in. Don't matter if it's 1989, 1999, 2009, or beyond. They deserve a place in the top 5 greatest live bands ever. Completely agree with your choices by the way.

The sound, the energy and the amount of hit songs both bands have keeps you going from beginning to end! I'll give honorable mentions to RATM in their prime, Gojira, and for a shit ton of fun GWAR!
