You have a superb skill to explain complex things. You have thought very nicely, when to stop the video and use colour coding. I have understood better from your video than from my instructor. Without watching your videos, it was impossible for me to understand these complex markings ever. Many thanks for these videos. Had you been in Wolverhampton, I would have taken lessons from you.
After watching your Multi-Lane Roundabout videos finally feel that I'm finally getting an understanding of how they work. Your's is one of the few that explains the significance of the dots and dashes in regarding to the lanes. The Highway Code is lacking in detail when it comes to these types of Roundabouts. Might feel a lot less stressed later this week when I have a lesson which will partly involve doing many of these roundabouts.
Had a re-arranged lesson today with the aforementioned Multi-Lane Roundabouts and coped with them a lot better today. With it being a Saturday and early afternoon a much busier time certainly is a good sign. Still not quite as comfortable with them as I would like to be but no real major issues. Your Multi-Lane Roundabout videos are probably the best online in regards to making things simple to understand.
Wonderful videos. Passed my test 3 months ago and still find multi lane roundabouts confusing. I have to take 2 sometimes 3 attempts to find the correct exit!!. After watching your videos I now have a clearer understanding of spiral roundabouts. Thank you!!
Glad it’s helping, have you seen this one? Big Multi-Lane Spiral Roundabouts Made Easy using the NEW Brighton Hill Roundabout, 5 Lanes Wide ruclips.net/video/IfTZAzOLgH8/видео.html
Thanks for video your the only one I’ve seen on RUclips to say what those square headed roundabout exits signs is and does. 👏🏾 I learnt something new that I wanted the answer for at 2:04. Also I find roundabouts hard and I’ve been driving for year.
This was really helpful. I’m taking my test a second time but I drove around here the first time. One of those roundabouts I failed because I didn’t look over my left shoulder for danger and caused another car to slow down.
Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for your YT videos. I have been watching them and lots of the things you said really helped. I passed my practical driving test today!
Really like your videos Could you post a video with a 3 lane roundabout with road markings and positioning please? A roundabout used on a DVLA test route in Oxfordshire has very poor / worn out markings which make it really hard manoeuvre and need advice on positioning when no markings please
Nice video about roundabouts, I think you can still make more videos of different round about here. Cause your videos are easy to understand For all including learners as well as experienced
Thank u for making this video these roundabouts are very tricky for me I would like to ask how to do u follow lane markings if there is no markings on the roundabout that you are entering on to
Depends, every roundabout is different, so go with the experience you are gaining from lessons. and just be safe, dont change lanes if you can be certain its safe, and if you miss your exit, dont worry, just turn around somewhere else or go a different way.
I probably would have chosen the right hand lane @ 2:29 and gone the wrong way. Would not have picked up that Guildford direction had (A331) and using that in conjunction with a right turn would mean the middle lane. Took several watches before I picked up on that.
Loving this series re-affirm my knowledge from ADi PT2 passed back in Dec, I'm going to struggle to teach this as it isn't second nature though I'm 44 and 25 bad years of using any lane and changing lanes on the roundabout has corrupted me entirely . Am I correct, once in lane cannot cross the lane line markings, thanks. You just come off wrong stay in lane and must not change lane ? The penny is dropping how the dots link you to lane markings, these 25 years busking it hasn't helped
Hi, it’s just like taking the 3rd but it’s the 4th. Look at the signs and road markings for where the 4th is and follow them 👍 There are some 4th exit examples on some of our other multi lane roundabout videos
Thank you. Sadly I didnt Pass I made a pretty stupid mistake that if wouldn't have done I would have passed with 7 minors. Funny enough it was just after Queens Roundabout. The Examiner asked me the Show Me Question: Can you turn on the Rear Demister. I accidentally set the front one on. Course the Examiner repeated it and I knew I got it wrong. So while trying to change it I took my eyes off the road and the Examiner had to grab the wheel. Of course I knew then I failed but I continued with the test. Would really recommend to avoid this. I learnt alot and it was a real eye opener for me I hope to have my test again very soon and Pass Second time around I'll be ready :)
2:20 - these exits puzzle new drivers counting the exits on the signs, would it be best have an arrow down showing cars entering not exiting on that position!? Or would this confuse further
Thanks for the videos. They are brilliant as usual. A question pls. You say towards the end that we always exit in the left lane. But if we had taken a lane that led us to the right lane on the exit is it safer to exit on right ? Instructors do make us practice exiting on the left lane but in practice there is always a car on the left lane? Then why is it not taught that we should exit in the appropriate lane? Would you know by any chance.
If you have done the roundabout correctly then you should be able to come off the roundabout in the left lane safely. Unless someone is driving maybe a bit carelessly around you and has taken the lane that you need. There is nothing wrong with coming off in the right lane, as long as you get over to the left on once you are off at the first safe opportunity. Hope this makes sense, have you watched this video on double roundabouts? ruclips.net/video/DfYlOs0SvKQ/видео.html
Unfortunately it takes quite a bit of time to make these videos, but if you watch all our roundabout videos and the independent driving ones im sure they will help as the skills transfer to all road junctions, good luck with your learning :)
these vids are great. i've just passed, got a new car and now it feels almost like starting from scratch. :( can you make a video on a massive roundabout like hangar lane? having to change lanes within that lane when you start on the right and have to move across two lanes to get to your exit?
So if you’re going 3rd exit your right signal should be on the whole roundabout up until the last exit. But if you want to change lanes within the roundabout, how do you deal with signals then. Do you signal when drifting to a different lane then cancel or do you just check mirrors and keep the right signal on?
If the road marking are moving you out, then check it safe but leave the right signal on, If the road markings don’t then a short signal could be helpful for people around you 👍
In Malaysia, we inherited the British highway code. However our 3-lane roundabouts are concentric circles. Your roundabouts evolved into spirals. If you were to drive here, how would you negotiate our roundabouts?
With those you need to imagine where the lines would be, For example if you are going right 3rd exit on a 2 lane roundabout, you approach in the right, go onto the roundabout in the right line, then as you get close tot the 2nd exit start checking its safe to move into the left lane so as you pass exit 2 you signal and move into the left lane to come off the roundabout in the left lane. Remember tho if it is not safe to change lanes carry on around the roundabout and go either to a different exit or all the way round and try yours again. All roundabouts are slightly different tho so keep learning and put your experiences into practice. Hope this helped
A lot of people entering a spiritual roundabout in the right hand lane will follow the markings for them already on the roundabout. I drive a HGV so take the outer lane when allowed and once had another driver hit the rear of my trailer by the other driver following this line. Can you please edit your post to point out this making is for them already on the roundabout and not them joining. Thank you. 👍🏴🇬🇧🤠
ok i just had my test yesterday and i had a women examiner instead of a male, but i'm a male and is this allowed to happen on the test? she failed me to because i was uncomfortable driving as i normally drive better with males
Hi. Thanks for the vid. A query: in another video you said that if we're in the middle lane and going to turn into the exit to the right, we don't need to indicate, because it will make drivers think we're trying to get into the right lane. Why did we not do that here at 3:14? Thanks!
Purple Spark great question, on the other roundabout it was traffic light controlled so your signal was not really helping anyone come into the roundabout. On this roundabout people coming into the roundabout need to know where you are going much more. So that need outweighs the need not to mislead the guys in the right lane. Does that make sense? Driving is all about weighing up pros and cons and doing the most safe thing for the place you are in :)
Purple Spark they could be more uniform to make it easier but then they might not flow as well? But you will get used to them and work them out a lot quicker with more experience:)
So under NO circumstance I should expect to be switching lane on a spiral roundabount? If i start in the correct lane, i will naturally end up in the correct exit with no issues?... Right?
Sheldon Gordon if the roundabout has been set up correctly and your not going all the way round back to where you came from then yes mostly. But there is always a exception to the rules with British roads, so keep your eyes peeled
Because there is a solid white line separating us and that left lane, the only solid line we cross in normal circumstances is a stop line once we have stoped
And when driving ive been told if its a small 20 mph sign on a lampost and its not school time and there are no markings saying 20, are you meant to go 30 or 20?
If its a proper 20 sign in a red circle then its a 20 Zone all the time, If its one of those 20 is plenty signs then its advice as they are rectangle. So around school time would be a great time to take the advice of the 20 is plenty sign. Hope this helps :)

thanks these roundabout videos are helpful, and one thing my instructor says is
i'm too far left when exiting a roundabout, any tips on that?
try look further ahead into the road you are going, sometimes if your looking at the road in front of you to closely it can affect your position
ok i just had my test yesterday and i had a women examiner instead of a male, but i'm a male and is this allowed to happen on the test? she failed me to because i was uncomfortable driving as i normally drive better with males
You can either, its should make no difference who is sat next to you :)

Which gear and what speed, when we approach to the roundabout?
I am a learner driver when I go big roundabout I always confuse which lane should I take😢😭
