Haha exactly what I thought. Be nice if you could pause in real time to read the signs. In reality there's a large hgv blocking any view of the signs and an impatient audi or BMW right up your arse!
That would be helpful, A lot of the time you get a real pause at a red light or if there are lots of cars coming so you can use this time wisely and look ahead for these signs. Hope its help you understand what to look for tho on the move :)
This video is brilliant; one of the best I’ve seen explaining complex roundabouts. I’m an American visiting the UK soon with my family. I feel a little more confident after seizing your video. Thanks.

Excellent video, this is the best I've seen on multi lane roundabouts. I have a license and still get confused especially in unfamiliar areas. This vid will help loads, thanks!
Excellent Video I have ever watched not just for the beginners but even for the experienced drivers because people usually seem lost and get into the wrong lanes specially on the roundabouts. Thanks for educating us Sir :). I am a new driver and I believe I will watch this video every time I go for long drive :)
Yes, but from what I have heard from the British people i work with that even natives aren't too fond of the roundabout, especially a few in the town of Plymouth.
Roundabouts in the Uk is the most stupid Jurassic-age rule existing only in the UK . endless rules, and in reality they got the worse drivers on earth Long live uncle Sam
Thank you! This is the best video I've seen on roundabouts. I'm still terrified of facing the Plymouth ones alone, but this will hopefully help when I'm out by myself. :)
This video is gonna be so helpful. Thanks 👍I just failed my first driving test. 6 minors & one serious. Picked up the serious fault on one of these as I took the right hand lane rather than middle, then crossed lines without mirrors or indicator.
Thank you for these videos. I am studying almost all of them to prepare for driving in the U.K. next spring on my holiday. :) They are clear and easy to understand
Very helpful video for europe driver like me, we dont have a lot of roundabouts like GB, but i think the roundabouts is more dangerous than simple crossings with signs or traffic lights
I'm struggling to understand roundabouts in Newcastle. The lanes change in to two then each in two again n then in three 😲. I had my 1st test coming next week but I preferred rescheduling that for the last week of May. I'm literally drawing roundabouts to understand the signs and road markings. Google map can't help much as they've recently changed road markings on roundabouts in Newcastle upon tyne. Your videos are helping me quite a lot. Keep it up and stay blessed !😊
@@ThinkDriving I came across your video luckily and started watching again to make sure I do everything right and follow your instructions. I passed my test last year in June and drove my car for a couple of months. Got back on roads last month thinking it's gonna be hard but doing well so far. Thanks again for putting so much effort in to making your videos to make life easier for us!
It's when two merge into one when it's only a short piece of road when you should be worried or wary. People tend to barge in and race you in Swindon. Swindon council have no sense on how to build a good junction.
I will be renting a car in Heathrow next May and heading out for a three week holiday in England and Scotland. To say I'm nervous is an understatement! Thank you for this... I hope to study it many times so I don't die or accidentally harm anyone else.
Should I have a big sign in the back that says "old lady American driver?" lol? Seriously, will I have any problem getting OUT of Heathrow and heading to Bath???
Kris Keele no a couple of large roundabouts that are mostly traffic light controlled if I remember right then your on the M4 for about 90 mins if the traffic of nice to you. Then your pretty much there. There is a lovely roof top spa in bath you should check it out and the Christmas market it pretty good to :)
7'00" left mirror, left shoulder AND: right mirror, right shoulder (just in case)! i passed my test in the UK 40 years ago but have spent the last 30 years in germany. i'm practicing multi lane roundabouts for driving in UK in 2 weeks time. thanks for the clear explanations. except: when you said "if it's clear". what if it's not? stay where you are in the lane, and take a wrong exit if need be, i suppose. it's so much better to go the wrong way than to crash! to crash is easy.
Thanks for the very informative and helpful video, but even as an experienced driver I feel that no matter how careful or how correctly i navigate these large multiple lane roundabouts, there are so many drivers around you that are getting things wrong that potential conflict with another vehicle always feels like a real possibility, especially with lane discipline being so poor these days. My solution is to alter my route to either avoid these roundabouts altogether, or to enter the roundabout from a lane that allows me to stay on the left and avoid any lane changes. It may add a few miles to a journey but it's a small price to pay to avoid any ugly incidents.
I feel the same way. I've only been driving about six months or so but I tend to avoid roundabouts with many lanes if possible because I feel like even if I do everything correctly, there is no guarantee someone will not take the wrong lane or want to go the same way as me using a different lane and cause a collision. Also where I live has less clear signs and markings than the place in this video which sucks
THere's one near me where the lane markings are so worn out that many people who aren't used to it can't follow them and start drifting all over. I've done that a couple of times too but it's not just me! You've really got to keep an eye out on that one, even if you know where you're going. The number of skid marks on the road are a clue too.
Really nice video, thank you. I'm doing my test next week (also in Basingstoke) and it's only really multilane roundabouts and that awful short duel carriageway sliproad near Morrisons that I'm still a bit concerned about. I think there are a few tricky roads in Basingstoke; the ones in the video I find okay but the Winchester one always gets me due to poor markings!
I wached this video to see how I should drive in a multilane roundabout because here in Germany we try to avoid building them, because there would be to many people making dangerous mistakes.
Thank you! Very good explanation in your video. Could you make video about Hanger Lane roundabout in London please as I am a new driver and I can not work out how to use it correctly.. It's to complicated for me 😢😟😖
Man i passed four months ago and drove on a roundabout like this, got me really scared (i annoyed a couple drivers by cutting lanes) hence why im here, still confused but i think im slowly getting it
nice video, can you make one more with a roundabouts where there is no road markings telling you where to go and they have two lanes.I noticed some people like to use left lane to go round(mean turning right basically)and some use right hand lane to go straight. Wonder who would be at fault if cars come from 6o clock(2lanes),then the one on the left lane goes in to 3rd exit(3o clock)and the one on the right hand lane goes straight(12o clock)...they meet at 12 o clock and crash...
roundabouts differ so much, for example on a roundabout that is on a dual carriage way sometimes you may use the left lane to go right as the people using the right lane to right will come off in the right lane. So really depends on the roundabout. THE BEST BIT OF ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU IS ALWAYS CHECK ITS SAFE TO EXIT A ROUNDABOUT, IF ITS NOT DON'T TRY AND JUST GO TO THE NEXT EXIT IF THAT IS SAFER. Hope this helped for now until we have time to produce a video on that for you :)
As someone who had this very scenario happen, the ruling will come down to signage. As all three lanes on the roundabout I was on were signposted forward, and only the right lane was signed as also right turn, the guy that hit me (turning right from the left lane) was clearly in the wrong and lost his excess ;) If there are no road markings or signs then standard rules will apply - left for over and left, right for right. If you're ever unsure, proceed slowly!
@@ThinkDriving hey, we have tried so many times but nothing seems to be going through. I just find it so confusing that with mini roundabouts you get in one lane and stick to it whereas multi lanes you get in one and end up on the other side and you almost cross over lanes. All the lines over lapping eachother just confuse me and you can't slow down or stop to take any of it in. I am taking so long to get to an ok leveln of driving but lanes and roundabouts are something in starting to fear that I will never over come :/
You will get there, everyone learns at different rates, you will get eventually. The fact that you are trying to learn in other places shows you want it :)
@@ThinkDriving yeah I definitely do. Im just starting to really doubt myself as nothing seems to be making me improve and I don't know what to do to make the situation better
4:54 can you please explain the shorter exits, and why we don't count them. I don't understand how that's the 3rd exit. I believe you said ones an entrance, but would that be counted as one? I'm confused. Com, please verify this for me, it's a question my instructor couldn't answer. Oh and also the gaps in them too
So the first line is onto the dual carriageway, if you notice as you past that you are going over a bridge which is the dual carriageway. So the second line is the people coming off the dual carriageway. So the second line is not an exit just and entrance for people coming off that dual carriageway. So the third line is the 2nd exit so then Oakridge is he 3rd exit. Have you watched this video, the graphics are better and might help you more? ruclips.net/video/M9dqxNJZaAw/видео.html
Brilliant video! May I ask, when you look over your shoulder at 4:16, what speed were you driving at? I find complex roundabouts very difficult unless I drop speed to 15 miles per hour. My instructor tells me to speed up, but I cannot orientate myself on a busy round about if I drive over 20 miles per hour. What do you think?
Charing Cross hi at that point probably only 10mph. It all roundabout dependant some you can easily get up to 30 but others no way near. Have you told your instructor your issue with going faster? If he does not know then he can’t help :)
At 0:55, how do you know staying left will end up in the middle lane? What if the 3rd lane appears on the right and by staying left you find yourself in the far left lane?
Overchecking your mirrors is a hazard and makes you more likely to cause an accident. When you enter a new road you're supposed to asses the new situation ahead of you, not what's behind you.
David Navrátil you are correct you need to asses what’s ahead of you, but you also need to asses what’s behind you as that has a bearing on how you deal with what’s in front of you.
Good video but can we pause like this while driving? I will go crazy driving in UK with these multi-lane roundabouts. Why not somebody simplify it somehow? Thanks.
Hi, glad you like it :) The camera is mounted on the roof of the car facing slightly down so makes the gap look bigger than it is, it maybe a car length tho, which is not an issue :)
I'd have this completely mastered if I could pause time and run through the options haha.

The camera is mounted on the roof of the car facing slightly down so makes the gap look bigger than it is, it maybe a car length tho, which is not an issue :)
